Parametric Study on Performance of an Automobile Air Conditioner

This study was conducted to find performance evaluation method for automobile air conditioner. Experimental facilities were constructed to simulate wide range of operating condition for the automobile air conditioner. Compressor speed was controled by variable speed electric motor and the power was measured through torque transducer and tachometer was used to measure compressor speed. Parametric studies were conducted in this study, to figure out effect of environment variables on the performance of the automobile air conditioner. The environmental variables are inlet air temperature, relative humidity and air flow rate for the evaporator and inlet air temperature and air flow rate for the condenser. Compressor speed is also changed. The results of this study shows that air flow rate of the evaporator is more sensitive to the performance of the automobile air conditioner than the other variables. However relative humidity of the inlet air of the evaporator strongly affects capacity rather that COP.
Effects of Slits and Swirl Vanes on the Main Flow Fields of a Gun-Type Gas Swirl Burner

This paper is studied to investigate the effect of slits and swirl vanes on the main flow fields of a gun-type gas burner through X-Y plane and Y-Z plane respectively by using X-probe from hot-wire anemometer system. This experiment was carried out with flow rate
in respective burner models installed in the test section of a subsonic wind tunnel. The burner models with only slits and only swirl vanes respectively were made by modifying original gun-type gas burner. The fast jet flow spurted from slits played a role such as an air-curtain because it encircled rotational flow by swirl vanes and drives mixed main flow to axial direction. As a result, the gun-type gas burner had a wider flow range up to about Y/R=1.5 deviated from slits and maintains a comparatively large velocity in the central part of burner within the range of about X/R=2.5. Therefore, it was very desirable that swirl vanes were installed within slits in gun-type gas burner in order to control the main flow fields effectively.
A study on the Application of STS wire Mesh air Cleaner for the 2-Wheel Automotive

This study represents the effects of the material of the air cleaner on the performance in a 4-stroke spark-ignition engine for motorcycles. This study is mainly focused on the possibility of the adopting the STS wire mesh air cleaner of a S.I engine. For investigating the possibility of that, the engine power, the fuel consumption and the exhaust gas analysis were carried out for the synthetic fiber air cleaner and the different size of 200 mesh, 250 mesh, 300 mesh of STS wire mash air cleaner. As the results of this study, the performance of STS wire air cleaner was similar to the fiber air cleaner at 9000 rpm but 300 mesh of STS air cleaner had a high engine power and torque at 9500 rpm. In the case of the synthetic fiber air cleaner the concentration of CO was low at 6500 rpm and in the case of the 300 mesh in STS wire mesh air cleaner the concentration of HC was lowest at all experimental regions.
Relation Between Welding Shapes and the Vibration Energy Flows of Steel Plate

In the structures of automobiles and ships which have engines for works, the vibration energies generated by the engines are transferred to dissipation parts through the structures which is welded and bolted with beams and plates. The vibration energies generated by resonance frequencies are the reasons of the resonance phenomena. To solve these problems, up to the present, we have studied to avoid the resonance, and add the higher damping characteristics. However, we need to understand the structural energy flows, to design the structures clearly which have the characteristic of welding. The object of this study is to make differences clear in the characteristics of structures which have some welded part on an homogenous flat plate. In this investigation, we study the flows of structural vibration energy experimently, and then, some knowledge for dynamic structural design is obtained.
A Study on Development of High Speed Rotating Arc Sensor and Its Application

This paper presents a seam tracking controller of high speed rotating arc sensor developed by microprocessor based system. The seam tracking algorithm is based on the average current value at each interval region of four phase points on one rotating cycle. To remove the noise effect for the measured current, the area during one rotating cycle is separated into four regions of front, rear, left and right. The average values at each region are calculated, using the regional current values and a low pass filter incorporating the moving average and exponential smoothing methods is adopted. The effectiveness is proven through the experimental results for several kinds of welding condition.
Tensile Properties and Creep Rupture Characteristics of Cu-1Cr-0.5Zr/STS316L Friction Welded Joints at Elevated Temperature

In this paper, the elevated temperature tensile properties and short-time creep rupture characteristics were investigated for the friction welded joints of dissimilar materials, Cu-1%Cr-0.5%Zr and STS316L. Wear Characteristics on Friction Velosity and Force of Plasma Sprayed Ceramic Coating Layer

This study is to investigate the wear behaviors of thermally sprayed ceramic coating by a pin-on-disk wear testing machine. The test specimens were plasma sprayed TiO2 coating material on carbon steel substrate(S45C) with Ni-4.5%Al alloy bond coating. Wear characteristics, friction coefficient and wear rates, were conducted at the three kinds of loads and velosities. Wear environments were dry and lubrication friction. The friction coefficients of TiO2 coating specimen in dry friction were almost same according to increase the friction velocity. The wear rate increased when the friction force is high. In lubrication friction, the wear hardly occured and friction coefficient was about 0.1. The adhesiveness of TiO2 in lubrication friction is larger than that in dry one.
Performance Analysis of the Lubricating Oil Feed Pump by the Anslysis of the Flow Network

In this paper, the cause of the discrepancy of the inlet and outlet flow of the lubricating oil feed pump was analyzed by the flow measurement and the analysis of the flow network. At first, we thought that the flow difference was induced by a leak in the middle of the flow network. But, through the flow measurement using ultrasonic flow meter and the performance analysis of the pump, we knew that the cause of the flow difference was due to a drop in efficiency of the pump according to the pressure drop of the outlet. Also, we knew that the shape of the piping had no effect on the efficiency of the pump.
A Comparative Study of Pulse-echo Method and TOFD Method for the Defect in the Welding Joint of the STS304 Stainless Steel

For the evaluation of a flaw in a welded stainless steel by the Time of Flight Diffraction(TOFD) Method, we have made the reference specimen for experimentation. As a result, we could analyze a specific character and the inner state of the structure in a welded stainless steel and we came to the conclusion as followed. (1) For analyze the structure state of a section in a welded stainless steel through the optical microscope, we could have analyzed the generated shape and the location of a flaw and the inner parts of the structure state through the microscope of eighty magnification and two hundred magnification about the soundness, the heat affected zone(HAZ) and the welded part. (2) Through the comparison with the shape and the size of a flaw in the welded part about the conventional ultrasonic test and the TOFD Method, we could make an observation the special character of the TOFD Method and principles. (3) We analyzed and collected the merit of the TOFD Method on the basis of the experimental result by the shape and the size of a flaw in the inner welded parts. So, we made up a base that we could use as a basic data for a similar flaw like that. Through the study as mentioned above, we could make an observation the flaw detective method and principles used in the TOFD Method.

The modelling and controller design of the EMV(electro-magnetic valve) for vehicle engine are considered in this paper. For the analysis and controller design, the governing equation of the EMV system is derived. For a good performance of the system, the start control, the holding control and the swing control are included in the controller design of the EMV system. In order to reduce landing speed of the valve, the on-time delay control which mainly come from the optimal control theory is employed. In order to reduce the power consumption of the system, the pick-up and hold operation has been used for the magnetic coil. The simulation and experimental results are presented to show the validity of the control method.
