Design of a Biconical Antenna with Cylindrical Loads for EMI Test Site Validation above 1 GHz

In this paper, a biconical type antenna is proposed for EMI test site validation above 1 GHz. To achieve broadband and omni-directional radiation patterns required by international standard(CISPR), the proposed antenna consists of general bicones with cylindrical loads and adopts side feeding method to minimize the influence on H-plane pattern due to feeding cable, balun, and connector. The radiation patterns of the fabricated antenna are measured and the results are compared with CISPR criteria and commercial antenna in our interest frequencies. Although the proposed antenna has a few problems in frequency range of 1 GHz to 2 GHz, it has relatively better performance than commercial antenna.
Analytical Models to Predict Power Harvesting with Piezoelectric Transducer

Advances in low power design open the possibility to harvest energy from the environment to power electronic circuits. Electrical energy can be harvested from piezoelectric transducer. Piezoelectric materials can be used as mechanisms to transfer mechanical energy usually vibrating system into electrical energy that can be stored and used to power other devices. Micro- to milli-watts power can be generated from vibrating system. We developed definitive and analytical models to predict the power generated from a cantilever beam attached with piezoelectric transducer. Analytical models are pin-force method, enhanced pin-force method and Euler-Bernoulli method. Harmonic oscillations and random noise will be the two different forcing functions used to drive each system. It has been selected the best model for generating electric power based upon the analytical results obtained.
A Miniaturized Aperture-Coupled Multilayer Hairpin Bandpass Filter

In this paper, we introduce a coupling, which is achieved through the aperture instead of the conventional edge coupling, so that the bandpass filter is reduced less than half in size compared to conventional planar type. The resulting filter configuration has a near two-fold symmetry, where the aperture coupling is used in the middle of the coupling stages. We designed a bandpass filter using two tapped hairpin resonators, of which the order becomes four. The designed bandpass filter has the size of
. It has the return loss better than 17dB and the insertion loss of less than 5 dB in overall passband. The measured results show good agreements with simulated ones.
Arbitrary Sampling Method for Nonlinearity Identification of Frequency Multipliers

It is presented that sampling rates for behavioral modeling of quasi-memory less nonlinear devices can be far less than the Nyquist rate of the input signal. Although it has been believed that the sampling rate of nonlinear device modeling should be at least the Nyquist rate of the output signal, this paper suggests that far less than the Nyquist rate of the input signal can be applied to the modeling of quasi-memoryless nonlinear devices, such as frequency multipliers. To verify, a QPSK signal at 820 MHz were applied to a frequency tripler, whereby the device can be utilized as an up-converting mixer into 2.46 GHz with the aid of digital predistortion. AM-AM, AM-PM and PM-PM can be successfully measured regardless of sampling rates.
Analysis of a Linkage Coil for Wireless Power Transmission by Inductive Coupling

Magnetic coupling delivering wireless power in capsular endoscope(CE) is described in this paper. The characteristic of the magnetic flux linkage coil which generates the induced electromotive force(emf) under the magnetic field was analyzed. With the analyzed results, a magnetic flux linkage coil system was developed and tested. It was confirmed that the magnetic flux linkage coil system could supply more than 50 mW power at 125 kHz without changing the structure of conventional CE.
Design of the Novel DVB-H Antenna for the Folder-Type Mobile Handheld Terminal

We have proposed a novel DVB-H(Digital Video Broadcast for Handheld) antenna for folder-type mobile handheld terminal by using a coupling element, a stub, and an L-type matching circuit. The L-type matching circuit consisting of two chip inductors is used for achieving an improved impedance matching over the DVB-H frequency band (
). Simulated results showed the stub worked to more knot the lower and upper frequency ends of the input impedance curve. The antenna exhibits a flat gain characteristic from 2 to 2.8 dBi over the DVB-H frequency band. The radiation patterns are a stable Figure-of-eight radiation pattern in the frequency range.

An RF front-end dual-conversion receiver for
MB-OFDM UWB systems is implemented in
CMOS technology. The receiver includes a two-stage UWB LNA, an RF mixer, an IF I/Q mixer, and a frequency synthesizer. The proposed receiver adopts the dual-conversion architecture to mitigate the burden of design of the frequency synthesizer. Accordingly, the proposed frequency synthesizer generates four LO tones from only one VCO. The receiver front-end achieves power gain of 16.3 to 21 dB, NF of 7 to 7.6 dB over
