A Spatial Regularization of LDA for Face Recognition

This paper proposes a new spatial regularization of Fisher linear discriminant analysis (LDA) to reduce the overfitting due to small size sample (SSS) problem in face recognition. Many regularized LDAs have been proposed to alleviate the overfitting by regularizing an estimate of the within-class scatter matrix. Spatial regularization methods have been suggested that make the discriminant vectors spatially smooth, leading to mitigation of the overfitting. As a generalized version of the spatially regularized LDA, the proposed regularized LDA utilizes the non-uniformity of spatial correlation structures in face images in adding a spatial smoothness constraint into an LDA framework. The region-dependent spatial regularization is advantageous for capturing the non-flat spatial correlation structure within face image as well as obtaining a spatially smooth projection of LDA. Experimental results on public face databases such as ORL and CMU PIE show that the proposed regularized LDA performs well especially when the number of training images per individual is quite small, compared with other regularized LDAs.
A Study on Kohenen Network based on Path Determination for Efficient Moving Trajectory on Mobile Robot

We propose an approach to estimate the real-time moving trajectory of an object in this paper. The object's position is obtained from the image data of a CCD camera, while a state estimator predicts the linear and angular velocities of the moving object. To overcome the uncertainties and noises residing in the input data, a Extended Kalman Filter(EKF) and neural networks are utilized cooperatively. Since the EKF needs to approximate a nonlinear system into a linear model in order to estimate the states, there still exist errors as well as uncertainties. To resolve this problem, in this approach the Kohonen networks, which have a high adaptability to the memory of the inputoutput relationship, are utilized for the nonlinear region. In addition to this, the Kohonen network, as a sort of neural network, can effectively adapt to the dynamic variations and become robust against noises. This approach is derived from the observation that the Kohonen network is a type of self-organized map and is spatially oriented, which makes it suitable for determining the trajectories of moving objects. The superiority of the proposed algorithm compared with the EKF is demonstrated through real experiments.

In this paper, we investigate the properties of antitone Galois connection and formal concepts. Moreover, we show that order reverse generating maps induce formal, attribute oriented and object oriented concepts on a complete residuated lattice.
ECAM Control System Based on Auto-tuning PID Velocity Controller with Disturbance Observer and Velocity Compensator

This paper proposed an ECAM (Electronic cam) control system which has simple and general structure. The proposed cam controller adopted the linear and polynomial curve-fitting method to generates a smooth cam profile curve function. Smooth motion trajectory of master actuator guarantees the good performance of slave motion and has an important effect on the interpolation quality of ECAM. The auto-tuning PID velocity controller was applied to overcome the uncertainties in ECAM, and the gains of the controller are updated continuously to ensure the consistency of system performance under varying working conditions. The robustness of system against the varying load torque disturbances and noises is guaranteed by using the load torque disturbance observer to suppress the disturbance on master actuator. The velocity compensator was applied to compensate the degradation of performance of slave motion caused from the varying driving speed of master motion. The stability and validity of the proposed ECAM control system was verified by simulation results.

In this paper, we introduce the concepts of fuzzy r-minimal continuous function and fuzzy r-minimal open function between a fuzzy r-minimal space and a fuzzy topological space. We also investigate characterizations and properties for such functions.

This paper presents a method for estimating the parameters of dynamic models for induction motor dominating loads. Using particle swarm optimization, the method finds the adequate set of parameters that best fit the sampling data from the measurement for a period of time, minimizing the error of the outputs, active and reactive power demands and satisfying the steady-state error criterion.

Rank-based Control of Mutation Probability for Genetic Algorithms

This paper proposes a rank-based control method of mutation probability for improving the performances of genetic algorithms (GAs). In order to improve the performances of GAs, GAs should not fall into premature convergence phenomena and should also be able to easily get out of the phenomena when GAs fall into the phenomena without destroying good individuals. For this, it is important to keep diversity of individuals and to keep good individuals. If a method for keeping diversity, however, is not elaborately devised, then good individuals are also destroyed. We should devise a method that keeps diversity of individuals and also keeps good individuals at the same time. To achieve these two objectives, we introduce a rank-based control method of mutation probability in this paper. We set high mutation probabilities to lowly ranked individuals not to fall into premature convergence phenomena by keeping diversity and low mutation probabilities to highly ranked individuals not to destroy good individuals. We experimented our method with typical four function optimization problems in order to measure the performances of our method. It was found from extensive experiments that the proposed rank-based control method could accelerate the GAs considerably.
Some Properties on Intuitionistic Fuzzy Metric Space

We define some terminologies on intuitionistic fuzzy metric space and prove that the topology generated by any intuitionistic fuzzy metric space is metrizable. Also, we show that if the intuitionistic fuzzy metric space is complete, then the generated topology is completely metrizable, a Baire space, and that an intuitionistic fuzzy metric space is precompact if and only if every sequence has a Cauchy subsequence.

Up to now, in the area of fuzzy topology, almost all the researchers have investigated fuzzy continuities by using ordinary mappings. However, in this paper, we study continuities by using fuzzy mappings introduced by Demirci .
