Performance of Doubly Correlated MIMO Channel in OFDM Spatial Multiplexing Systems

In this paper, the capacity of MIMO fading channel in the OFDM-based spatial multiplexing systems is analyzed when there is scattering at both transmitter and receiver. The employed MIMO channel model is spanning from the correlated low-rank case to uncorrelated high-rank case at both transmitter and receiver. The effects of spatial fading correlation on the capacity of MIMO channel is examined when the channel is known and unknown at the transmitter. We also evaluate the impacts of a channel estimation error at the transmitter on the MIMO channel capacity.
A Mechanism for Dynamic Allocation of Frame Size in RFID System

The FSA algorithm for identifying multiple tags in RFID systems is based on the slotted ALOHA scheme with a fixed frame size. The performance of FSA algorithm is dependent on the frame size and the number of tags in the reader's identification range. Therefore, this paper proposes a new ODFSA. The proposed ODFSA algorithm dynamically allocates the optimal frame size at every frame based on the number of tags in the reader's identification range. According to the simulation results, the system efficiency of the proposed algorithm should be maintained optimally. Also, the proposed algorithm always obtained the minimum tag identification delay.
Implementation of Communication Network Utilizing AIS Technology

Automatic Identification System (AIS) is recently introduced to the maritime navigation systems. It is aimed to increase safety of vessels at sea by exchanging information to coastal monitoring stations. This article presents a ship traffic monitoring system by using the AIS information communication system using MS Visual C++. Then, the mobile Internet AIS introduced here is considerably improving and extending AIS functionalities compared to VHF AIS. When each ship is connected to the Internet network through the developed AIS system with her own client ID, all of her AIS information is surely sent to a server at her own base station by processing the information via the Internet network.
The Development of Reusable SoC Platform based on OpenCores Soft Processor for HW/SW Codesign

Developing highly cost-efficient and reliable embedded systems demands hardware/software co-design and co-simulation due to fast TTM and verification issues. So, it is essential that Platform-Based SoC design methodology be used for enhanced reusability. This paper addresses a reusable SoC platform based on OpenCores soft processor with reconfigurable architectures for hardware/software codesign methodology. The platform includes a OpenRISC microprocessor, some basic peripherals and WISHBONE bus and it uses the set of development environment including compiler, assembler, and debugger. The platform is very flexible due to easy configuration through a system configuration file and is reliable because all designed SoC and IPs are verified in the various test environments. Also the platform is prototyped using the Xilinx Spartan3 FPGA development board and is implemented to a single chip using the Magnachip cell library based on
1-poly 6-metal technology.
Clock Routing Synthesis for Nanometer IC Design

Clock skew modeling is important in the performance evaluation and prediction of clock distribution network and it is one of the major constraints for high-speed operation of synchronous integrated circuits. In clock routing synthesis, it is necessary to reduce the clock skew under the specified skew bound, while minimizing the cost such as total wire length and delay. In this paper, a new efficient bounded clock skew routing method is described, which generalizes the well-known bounded skew tree method by allowing loops, i.e., link-edges can be inserted to a clock tree when they are beneficial to reduce the clock skew and/or the wire length. Furthermore, routing topology construction and wire sizing is used to reduce clock delay.
Coaxial Feed Wideband CP antenna for RFID Applications

Wideband terminal and base station is required to serve not only existing 1st and 2nd generation mobile communication systems but also 3rd generation systems. In this paper, we present a feasibility study on coaxial feed compact wideband antenna for UHF RFID reader application. The original antenna was designed for partial discharge detection sensor in high voltage diagnostic system. However, we modified the original prototype to achieve shifted down resonant frequency for wideband wireless communication applications. The experimental result shows good return loss characteristics and radiation patterns except for the total gain at each resonant frequency. The maximum measured gain was 2.45 dBi
3.18 dBi at 910MHz.
ASESDP : An Efficient Service Discovery Protocol in Pervasive Computing Environments

Service discovery is the technology of finding needed services in networks, and a key point in pervasive computing environments. This paper presents a novel service discovery protocol: ASESDP(AIP and SRR Enhanced Service Discovery Protocol). In ASESDP, tow schemes are proposed to enhance its performance: AIP(Advertisement Information Piggybacked) and SRR(Shortest Reply Route). In AIP, parts of advertisement information are piggybacked in the service reply packet, which makes the advertisement information propagating along the reply path, and spreads its transmission area. In SRR, in order to reduce the service response time, the shortest reply route is chosen to forward the service reply packet to the source node sending the service request. With the theoretical analysis and Glomosim simulation results, it is verified that ASESDP can reduce the number of service request packets, save the response time, and improve the efficiency of service discovery.
Gas Turbine Data Acquisition and Monitoring System for Combined Cycle Power Plant

This paper presents a data acquisition and monitoring system for a gas turbine. The proposed system entitled C-Tune DAS plays an important role to make an analysis of the real-time operation of the gas turbine under maintenance. The designed LabVIEW based software is divided into three parts according to their original functions, i.e., data acquisition, data analysis with display, and data storage. The data acquisition part receives data from a PMS (Plant Management System) server and two cFPs (Compact-Field Point). To verify the validity of the developed system, it is applied to gas turbines in the combined cycle power plant in Korea.

Modeling of a novel power control scheme for Photovoltaic solar system

Solar electric systems have very little impact on environment, making them one of the cleanest power-generating technologies available. While they are operating, PV systems produce no air pollution, hazardous waste, or noise, and they require no transportable fuels. In PV system design, the selection and proper installation of appropriately-sized components directly affect system reliability, lifetime, and initial cost. In this research, we have studied the PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) signals. I proposed an efficient photovoltaic power interface circuit incorporated with a DC-DC converter and a sine-pwm control method full-bridge inverter. In grid-connected solar power systems, the DC-DC converter operates at high switching frequency to make the output current a sine wave, whereas the full-bridge inverter operates at low switching frequency which is determined by the ac frequency. Thus, it can reduce the switching losses incurred by the full-bridge inverter. Full-bridge converter is controlled by using microprocessor control method, and its operation is verified through computer aided simulations.

In torque transmission system, we must suppressed vibration for Accuracy characteristic response of motor, Therefore, vibration suppression factor is very important motor control. To suppress vibration, a various control method has been proposed. Specially, one method of vibration suppression used disturbance observer filter. This method is torsion torque passing disturbance observer filter. By the estimated torsion torque feedback, vibration can be suppressed. The CDM(coefficient diagram method) is used to design the filter and Proportional controller. But using coefficient diagram method, not adapted controller parameter in disturbance. For this solution, we used fuzzy controller for auto tuning controller parameter. We proved this approach is confirmed by simulation.
An Analysis of Chest X-ray by Laplacian Gaussian Filtering and Linear Opacity Judgment

We investigated algorithm to detect and characterize interstitial lung abnormalities seen at chest radiographs. This method includes a process of 4 directional Laplaction-Gaussian filtering, and a process of linear opacity judgment. Two regions of interest (ROIs) were selected in each right lung of patients, and these ROIs were processed by our computer-analyzing system. For quantitative analysis of interstitial opacities, the radiographic index, which is the percentage of opacity areas in a ROI, was obtained and evaluated in the images. From or result, abnormal lungs were well differentiated from normal lungs. In our algorithm, the processing results were not only given as the numeric data named "radiographic index" but also confirmed with radiologists observation on CRT. The approach, by which the interstitial abnormalities themselves are extracted, is good enough because the results can be confirmed by the observations of radiologists. In conclusion, our system is useful for the detection and characterization of interstitial lung abnormalities.
Variation of the Sea Level in the Korean seas Using Altimeter Data (TOPEX/POSEIDON)

A merged altimeter data products are used to estimate sea level variation in the East Sea between 1993 and 2006. The altimeter data show a high correlation coefficient (0.85) after applying gaussian low pass filter for 180days at Ulleung island. The both of Mukho coast and Ulleung island are minimal sea level in March to May and maximal in September to November. Sea level of Mukho coast is higher than that of Ulleung island during March to May, while Mukho coast is lower during September to November because the North Korea Cold Current flows along the coast line of Mukho. Generally sea level variation at Mukho coast and Ulleung island associated with seasonal variations.
Path based K-means Clustering for RFID Data Sets

Massive data are continuously produced with a data rate of over several terabytes every day. These applications need effective clustering algorithms to achieve an overall high performance computation. In this paper, we propose ancestor as cluster center based approach to clustering, the K-means algorithm using ancestor. We modify the K-means algorithm. We present a clustering architecture and a clustering algorithm that minimize of I/Os and show a performance with excellent. In our experimental performance evaluation, we present that our algorithm can improve the I/O speed and the query processing time.
Super-High Speed Photo detection through Frequency Conversion for Microwave on Optical Network

It is shown that even if the modulating frequency of the light is too high for direct detection the signal can be extracted by frequency conversion at the same time as the detection by means of the nonlinearity of the APD. When this frequency conversion detection is applied to an optical receiver, the detection bandwidth can be increased while the configuration of the optical detection circuit and the signal processing in the subsequent stages are simplified. A fundamental analysis is carried out with an APD which is confirmed experimentally.
Recognition of Car License Plates Using Fuzzy Clustering Algorithm

In this paper, we proposed the recognition system of car license plates to mitigate traffic problems. The processing sequence of the proposed algorithm is as follows. At first, a license plate segment is extracted from an acquired car image using morphological features and color information, and noises are eliminated from the extracted license plate segment using line scan algorithm and Grassfire algorithm, and then individual codes are extracted from the license plate segment using edge tracking algorithm. Finally the extracted individual codes are recognized by an FCM algorithm. In order to evaluate performance of segment extraction and code recognition of the proposed method, we used 100 car images for experiment. In the results, we could verify the proposed method is more effective and recognition performance is improved in comparison with conventional car license plate recognition methods.
Performance Comparison between Neural Network and Genetic Programming Using Gas Furnace Data

This study describes design and development techniques of estimation models for process modeling. One case study is undertaken to design a model using standard gas furnace data. Neural networks (NN) and genetic programming (GP) are each employed to model the crucial relationships between input factors and output responses. In the case study, two models were generated by using 70% training data and evaluated by using 30% testing data for genetic programming and neural network modeling. The model performance was compared by using RMSE values, which were calculated based on the model outputs. The average RMSE for training and testing were 0.8925 (training) and 0.9951 (testing) for the NN model, and 0.707227 (training) and 0.673150 (testing) for the GP model, respectively. As concern the results, the NN model has a strong advantage in model training (using the all data for training), and the GP model appears to have an advantage in model testing (using the separated data for training and testing). The performance reproducibility of the GP model is good, so this approach appears suitable for modeling physical fabrication processes.
Implementation of sensor network based health care system for diabetes patient

It can improve human being's life quality that all people can have more convenient medical service under pervasive computing environment. For a pervasive health care application for diabetes patient, we've implemented a health care system, which is composed of three parts. Various sensors monitor both outer and inner environment of human such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and glycemic index, etc. These sensors form zigbee based sensor network. And medical information server accumulates sensing values and performs back-end processing. To simply transfer these sensing values to a medical team is a low level's medical service. So, we've designed a new service model based on back propagation neural network for more improved medical service. Our experiments show that a proposed healthcare system can give high level's medical service because it can recognize human's context more concretely.
Positioning Scheme using Acceleration Factor for Wireless Sensor Networks

Locations of nodes as well as gathered data from nodes are very important because generally multiple nodes are deployed randomly and data are gathered in wireless sensor network. Since the nodes composing wireless sensor network are low cost and low performance devices, it is very difficult to add specially designed devices for positioning into the nodes. Therefore in wireless sensor network, technology positioning nodes precisely using low cost is very important and valuable. This research proposes Cooperative Positioning System, which raises accuracy of location positioning and also can find positions on multiple sensors within limited times.
Efficient USN Routing Protocol using Sub-Clustering

The existing routing protocols in USN environment, PEGASIS is more efficient than LEACH, which is a hierarchical routing protocol, for network configuration based on power consumption. Despite its merit that it can reduce energy consumption per node, however, the PEGASIS protocol also has a weakness that it is less responsive to frequent changes that occur in the configuration of sensor network due to BS nodes that keep changing, which is a typical characteristic of the sensor network. To address this problem, this paper proposes to select sub-cluster heads and have them serve as intermediate nodes. This paper presents and analyses that this method can resolve the aforementioned problem of the PEGASIS algorithm.
Introducing 'Meta-Network': A New Concept in Network Technology

A well-designed computer network technology produces benefits on several fields within the organization, between the organizations(suborganizations) or among different organizations(suborganizations). Network technology streamlines business processes, decision process. Graphs are useful data structures capable of efficiently representing a variety of networks in the various fields. Metagraph is a like graph theoretic construct introduced recently by Basu and Blanning in which there is set to set mapping in place of node to node as in a conventional graph structure. Metagraph is thus a new type of data structure occupying its popularity among the computer scientists very fast. Every graph is special case of Metagraph. In this paper the authors introduce the notion of Meta-Networking as a new network technological representation, which is having all the capabilities of crisp network as well as few additional capabilities. It is expected that the notion of meta-networking will have huge applications in due course. This paper will play the role of introducing this new concept to the network technologists and scientists.
