Unlicensed Spectrum as a Source of Innovation Applicability in the Republic of Kazakhstan
Abishev, Olzhas ; Lee, Joon-Won ;
Journal of information and communication convergence engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2009, Pages 87~91
Over the past several years both licensed and unlicensed services and devices have enjoyed extensive growth in the wireless marketplace. In some urban areas in the Kazakhstan, the penetration rate of licensed cellular and PCS services is more than 60%. Similarly, the use of unlicensed wireless local area network technologies has grown significantly as these systems have been deployed in homes, offices, and 'hot spots' in restaurants, hotels, public meeting areas, etc. As more services are wirelessly enabled and as technologies continue to evolve, the demand for new spectrum for commercial services will also continue to increase. Thus, the appropriate regulatory models for future spectrum allocations will continue to be debated throughout the wireless industry.

Lately, influence of information rises and interest about satisfaction estimation of information providing service is risin. According to rapid change in information environment, information-providing service is being changed in various form, in which center development is made in relation to the effort for customer satisfaction intended to enhance user's satisfaction level through providing more convenient and higher service centered on information service user rather than information service provider. Organizations providing information service is also changing their service from traditional one centered on service provider to that for user's satisfaction and service quality, and evaluation of information service quality and measurement of user's satisfaction as the result of using information service are regarded important. In this respect, it is needed to measure user's satisfaction level for environmental factors of information service and analyze what kind of influence they have to enhance user's satisfaction level of information service. Also function and efficiency of information offer service are important. Therefore, interest for satisfaction survey to heighten contents satisfaction of information-providing service, service satisfaction, satisfaction of user of system satisfaction is increased. In this paper, we propose a model of the user satisfaction index for information-providing services and present the user satisfaction index is measured to the model. Also we this study suggest qualitative improvements of information-providing service required for change to user-centric information-providing service through measuring user satisfaction index of ITFIND system and schemes to improve information quality
A Forward & Backward Secure Key Management in Wireless Sensor Networks for PCS/SCADA
Park, Dong-Gook ;
Journal of information and communication convergence engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2009, Pages 98~106
Process Control Systems (PCSs) or Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems have recently been added to the already wide collection of wireless sensor networks applications. The PCS/SCADA environment is somewhat more amenable to the use of heavy cryptographic mechanisms such as public key cryptography than other sensor application environments. The sensor nodes in the environment, however, are still open to devastating attacks such as node capture, which makes designing a secure key management challenging. In this paper, a key management scheme is proposed to defeat node capture attack by offering both forward and backward secrecies. Our scheme overcomes the pitfalls which Nilsson et al.'s scheme suffers from, and is not more expensive than their scheme.

Moving Object Trajectory based on Kohenen Network for Efficient Navigation of Mobile Robot
Jin, Tae-Seok ;
Journal of information and communication convergence engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2009, Pages 119~124
In this paper, we propose a novel approach to estimating the real-time moving trajectory of an object is proposed in this paper. The object's position is obtained from the image data of a CCD camera, while a state estimator predicts the linear and angular velocities of the moving object. To overcome the uncertainties and noises residing in the input data, a Extended Kalman Filter(EKF) and neural networks are utilized cooperatively. Since the EKF needs to approximate a nonlinear system into a linear model in order to estimate the states, there still exist errors as well as uncertainties. To resolve this problem, in this approach the Kohonen networks, which have a high adaptability to the memory of the input-output relationship, are utilized for the nonlinear region. In addition to this, the Kohonen network, as a sort of neural network, can effectively adapt to the dynamic variations and become robust against noises. This approach is derived from the observation that the Kohonen network is a type of self-organized map and is spatially oriented, which makes it suitable for determining the trajectories of moving objects. The superiority of the proposed algorithm compared with the EKF is demonstrated through real experiments.

Journal of information and communication convergence engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2009, Pages 131~134
The red-eye effect in photography occurs when using a photographic flash very close to the camera lens, in ambient low light due to in experience. Once occurred, the photographer needs to remove it with image tool that requires time consuming, skillful process. In this paper, we propose a new method to extract and remove such red-eye area automatically. Our method starts with transforming ROB space to YCbCr and HSI space and it extracts the face area by using skin color information. The target red-eye area is then extracted by applying 8-direction contour tracking algorithm and removed. The experiment shows our method's effectiveness.

Kim, Dong-Il ; Lee, Soong-Hee ;
Journal of information and communication convergence engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2009, Pages 135~140
The wide deployment of wireless access technologies and the integration of various access network interfaces into a single terminal, allows mobile end-users to be always connected to the IP network, and to use those interface simultaneously. In this paper the CTE provides various access network interfaces capabilities, allowing reception of data over multiple service providers with different characteristics. Considerations for multiple network and service provider environments are regarded as essential for the successful deployment of convergence services in Next Generation Network (NGN). Event Driven Service (EDS) is regarded as a typical convergence service converging different functions of multiple service providers. This paper first describes the deployment model of NGN convergence services for multiple service provider environments. It also covers the service scenario of EDS, a convergence service for multiple service provider environments in NGN. Multiple provider environments stimulates the unified identifier management, namely ubiquitous identification (U-ID), to enable users to be provided convergence services without awareness of multiple provides. Then the designed structure and procedures of U-ID based EDS are given. Finally, the implementation results tested on Korea Advanced Research Network (KOREN) are described.

Kim, Ki-Il ; Peng, Bai ; Kim, Kyong-Hoon ;
Journal of information and communication convergence engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2009, Pages 141~147
To initialize and maintain self-organizing networks such as mobile ad hoc networks, address allocation protocol is essentially required. However, centralized approaches that pervasively used in traditional networks are not recommended in this kind of networks since they cannot handle with mobility efficiently. In addition, previous distributed approaches suffer from inefficiency with control overhead caused by duplicated address detection and management of available address pool. In this paper, we propose a new dynamic address allocation scheme, which is based on adaptive partition. An available address is managed in distributed way by multiple agents and partitioned adaptively according to current network environments. Finally, simulation results reveal that a proposed scheme is superior to previous approach in term of address acquisition delay under diverse simulation scenarios.
Estimating the Price of Anarchy Using Load Balancing Measure
Kim, Jae-Hoon ;
Journal of information and communication convergence engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2009, Pages 148~151
We consider the problem of optimizing the performance of a system with resources shared by non-cooperative users. The worst-cast ratio between the cost of a Nash equilibrium and the optimal cost, called Price of Anarchy, is investigated. It measures the performance degradation due to the users' selfish behavior. As the objective function of the optimization problem, we are concerned in a load balancing measure, which is different from that used in the previous works. Also we consider the Stackelberg scheduling which can assign a fraction of the users to resources while the remaining users are free to act in a selfish manner.

Yeo, Hyeop-Goo ;
Journal of information and communication convergence engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2009, Pages 152~156
This paper examines the BER performance of the recently proposed half-symbol-rate-carrier (HSRC) offset quadrature phase-shift-keying (OQPSK) receiver for high-speed data communication. A modified demodulation technique using a bit-time period signal integration, the bit-error-rate (BER) performance of the HSRC-OQPSK signal improves more than 4dB compared to that of a demodulation technique using a symbol-time period integration. This paper also examines the BER performance of modified demodulation with various band-limited channels modeled using low-pass filters, and the three different data-rate systems are simulated and compared with the performance of the system using the conventional demodulation technique.

Journal of information and communication convergence engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2009, Pages 157~163
With the wide usage of internet in many fields, networks are being exposed to many security threats, such as DDoS attack and worm/virus. For enterprise network, prevention failure of network security causes the revealing of commercial information or interruption of network services. In this paper, we propose a method of prevention of DDoS attacks for enterprise network based on traceback and network traffic analysis. The model of traceback implements the detection of IP spoofing attacks by the cooperation of trusted adjacent host, and the method of network traffic analysis implements the detection of DDoS attacks by analyzing the traffic characteristic. Moreover, we present the result of the experiments, and compare the method with other methods. The result demonstrates that the method can effectively detect and block DDoS attacks and IP spoofing attacks.
A Scheme for Estimating Number of Tags in FSA-based RFID Systems
Lim, In-Taek ;
Journal of information and communication convergence engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2009, Pages 164~169
An RFID system consists of radio frequency tags attached to objects that need to be identified and one or more electromagnetic readers. Unlike the traditional bar code system, the great benefit of RFID technology is that it allows information to be read without requiring contact between the tag and the reader. For this contact-less feature, RFID technology in the near future will become an attractive alternative to bar code in many application fields. In almost all the 13.56MHz RFID systems, FSA (Framed Slot ALOHA) algorithm is used for identifying multiple tags in the reader's identification range. In FSA algorithm, the tag identification time and system efficiency depend mainly on the number of tags and frame size. In this paper, we propose a tag number estimation scheme and a dynamic frame size allocation scheme based on the estimated number of tags.

Journal of information and communication convergence engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2009, Pages 176~181
This study is part of a project to develop and improve mooring systems for oceanographic use that include an electro-optical sensor, 1MHz Nortek Aquadopp Doppler Profiler and AIRMAR multipurpose Sensor. The adaption of Doppler current profilers to measure directional wave spectra has provided a new instrumentation approach to coastal and nearshore oceanographic studies. The HEIOB is developed are light weight and of a compact design, and can be easily installed in marine environment. Since there are no base station and gateways in marine environments, we selected CDMA and Orbcomm to send the data information. Therefore, the data can be sent by either e-mail service or Short Message Service (SMS). This paper will present some of scientific sensor results regarding real-time oceanographic and meteorological parameters such as wind spend, wind direction, wave direction, and etc. The modeling and test results highlight the engineering challenges associated with designing these systems for long lifetimes. It can also be used in future application to build wave observation buoy network in real-time using multiple ubiquitous buoys that share wave data and allow analysis of multipoint, multi-layer wave profiler.

Kabir, S.M.Humayun ; Lee, Eun-Ju ; Yoon, Gi-Wan ;
Journal of information and communication convergence engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2009, Pages 182~184
In this letter, we derive a tight closed-form formula for an ergodic capacity of a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) for the application of wireless communications. The derived expression is a simple closed-form formula to determine the ergodic capacity of MIMO systems. Assuming the channels are independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) Rayleigh flat-fading between antenna pairs, the ergodic capacity can be expressed in a closed form as the finite sum of exponential integrals.
Efficient Routing Protocol to Select a High-Performance Route in Wireless Mesh Networks
Youn, Joo-Sang ;
Journal of information and communication convergence engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2009, Pages 185~192
In wireless mesh networks multi-rate technology environment, a mesh node can dynamically modify the data transmission rate on a particular link, in response to link distance, or more accurately, the perceived SNR ratio between neighbor nodes. In such networks, existing route selection schemes use a link quality metric. Thus, these schemes may easily result in the network being overloaded. In this paper, a new route metric is proposed; it considers both per-hop service delay and link quality at mesh nodes. In addition, the Load-Aware AODV (LA-AODV) protocol using the proposed metric is presented. The performance evaluation is performed by simulation using the OPNET simulator. It is demonstrated that the LA-AODV protocol outperforms the existing routing protocols using other existing route metrics in multi-rate WMN environment.
A Non-parametric Fast Block Size Decision Algorithm for H.264/AVC Intra Prediction
Kim, Young-Ju ;
Journal of information and communication convergence engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2009, Pages 193~198
The H.264/ AVC video coding standard supports the intra prediction with various block sizes for luma component and a 8x8 block size for chroma components. This new feature of H.264/AVC offers a considerably higher improvement in coding efficiency compared to previous compression standards. In order to achieve this, H.264/AVC uses the Rate-distortion optimization (RDO) technique to select the best intra prediction mode for each block size, and it brings about the drastic increase of the computation complexity of H.264 encoder. In this paper, a fast block size decision algorithm is proposed to reduce the computation complexity of the intra prediction in H.264/AVC. The proposed algorithm computes the smoothness based on AC and DC coefficient energy for macroblocks and compares with the nonparametric criteria which is determined by considering information on neighbor blocks already reconstructed, so that deciding the best probable block size for the intra prediction. Also, the use of non-parametric criteria makes the performance of intra-coding not be dependent on types of video sequences. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is able to reduce up to 30% of the whole encoding time with a negligible loss in PSNR and bitrates and provides the stable performance regardless types of video sequences.
Predictive Memory Allocation over Skewed Streams
Yun, Hong-Won ;
Journal of information and communication convergence engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2009, Pages 199~202
Adaptive memory management is a serious issue in data stream management. Data stream differ from the traditional stored relational model in several aspect such as the stream arrives online, high volume in size, skewed data distributions. Data skew is a common property of massive data streams. We propose the predicted allocation strategy, which uses predictive processing to cope with time varying data skew. This processing includes memory usage estimation and indexing with timestamp. Our experimental study shows that the predictive strategy reduces both required memory space and latency time for skewed data over varying time.

Journal of information and communication convergence engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2009, Pages 203~208
Recently, improved capabilities of the mobile device is represented in a demand for same level services with the desktop device services but the service that is developed for desktop device is not compatible with mobile devices. To fulfill these demands, it is needed to provide services with considering features of mobile devices. This means that CP(Contents Provider) must do contents transformation in order to make suitable contents on mobile device. For managing some information that is required to do contents transformation, we need the DDR(Device Description Repository) which can store and search a variety of device information to grasp the constraints on the mobile device as compared with desktop devices. Also, defining standard API is required to offer a service regardless of platforms. Hereupon W3C(World Wide Web Consortium) introduced DDR Simple API. However that specifies the limited functions of DDR, which is inevitable to be added for more precise search services. In this paper, we expanded DDR Simple API and implemented DDR that supports DDL(Device Description Language) conversion and storing and searching device information.
The secondary excited induction generator in random wave input system
Kim, Moon-Hwan ;
Journal of information and communication convergence engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2009, Pages 209~214
The employment of the induction generator is preferable in the natural energy utilization by the minimum maintenance and the mechanical robustness, Another merit is also expected when it is connected to the power network system, because constant-voltage and constant frequency (CVCF) power generation is easily realized in spite of the variation of the rotor speed. However the induction generator needs much amount of the reactive power that reduces power factor in the primary side. The improvement of power factor in the primary side requires large VAR compensator, this point is solved, the merit of the induction machine as a main generator will become more established. This paper proposes a novel approach where the secondary is controlled by a PWM inverter not only to get CVCF power but also to improve the primary power factor. Basically the inverter is controlled so that the field current is supplied from the secondary side in this approach. The required capacity of the inverter is small, because only the slip power is controlled in the secondary side. In the experimental system where the sea wave torque simulator is used, the power factor is well improved by the microcomputer controlled PWM inverter.

Choi, Jin-Ho ;
Journal of information and communication convergence engineering, volume 7, issue 2, 2009, Pages 215~218
In this paper, temperature stable current and voltage references using simple CMOS bias circuit are proposed. To obtain temperature stable characteristics of bias circuit a bandgap reference concept is used in a conventional circuit. The parasitic bipolar transistors or MOS transistors having different threshold voltage are required in a bandgap reference. Thereby the chip area increase or the extra CMOS process is required compared to a standard CMOS process. The proposed reference circuit can be integrated on a single chip by a standard CMOS process without the extra CMOS process. From the simulation results, the reference current variation is less than
0.44% over a temperature range from -
. And the voltage variation is from - 0.02% to 0.1%.

This paper combines various detection techniques and analyzes their performances in detecting the transmission information of the D-STTD scheme that uses, in parallel, the STTD scheme known as the Alamouti code. The D-STTD scheme adopts one of the STTD schemes for transmission to acquire diverse effects and uses another form of STTD for multiplexing effects. Due to the multiplexing effect that transmits different data, it is difficult to apply D-STTD to the conventional STTD combining technique. This paper combines the D-STTD system with linear algorithm, SIC algorithm and OSIC algorithm known as multiplexing detection scheme based on MMSE scheme. And we propose the detection scheme of the D-STTD using MAP algorithm and analyze the performance of each system. The simulation results showed that the detector using iterative algorithm has better performance than Linear MMSE Detector. Especially, we can show that the detector using MAP algorithm outperforms conventional detector.
