Degraded Quality Service Policy with Bitrate based Segmentation in a Transcoding Proxy

To support various bandwidth requirements for many kinds of devices such as PC, notebook, PDA, cellular phone, a transcoding proxy is usually necessary to provide not only adapting multimedia streams to the client by transcoding, but also caching them for later use. Due to huge size of streaming media, we proposed the 3 kinds of segmentation - PT-2, uniform, bitrate-based segmentation. And to reduce the CPU cost of transcoding video, we proposed the DQS service policy. In this paper, we simulate the combined our previous two researches that are bitrate-based segmentation and DQS(Degraded Quality Service) policy. Experimental results show that the combined policy outperforms companion schemes in terms of the byte-hit ratios and delay saving ratios.
u-City service Model based on Implementation and Adaptability

The realization of u-City is coming near in some local governments by applying various city services, namely, u-City services to the city construction field to improve competitiveness of the city. But it is a reality that some local governments are experiencing many trial and errors in application of the u-City service in addition to the problem posing that the u-City service is not considering characteristics of development or application environment of an individual city. The present research proposes a service model for on-site application of the u-City service to solve this problem. The proposed model suggests a method for specifically conceptualizing and objectifying the on-site application that the existing concept-oriented model or an architecture-oriented model, etc. didn't provide. The verification system on effectiveness or effects of the u-City service model to remove ambiguity on the u-City service especially. The verification system of the u-City service model grasps the technology, function, procedure and target, etc. that the u-City service contains, evaluates whether the model satisfies conditions that the model should have, and secures objectivity and predictability of the u-City service model through confirmation on propriety, implementation and effectiveness, etc.
Design of Broadband Impedance Matching Circuit for PLC Coupler using Butterworth Equalizer

This paper represents design broadband impedance matching circuit for Coupler to improve power transfer efficiency in the broadband power line communication(BPLC) systems. The Butterworth gain function equalizer is used to design broadband matching circuit. A practical PLC Coupler impedance matching circuit is designed, and the characteristics for S11 and S21 of PLC Coupler are enhanced comparing with unmatched one. This is done by maximizing the power transfer gain from modem to the load.
A Novel Compact Tunable Bandpass Filter Loaded Varactor Diode on the DGS

In this paper, a novel defected ground structure (DGS) pattern with enhanced effective capacitance (varactor diode) and a hole in PCB center is presented. The increase in effective capacitance enables the new DGS pattern to achieve a lower resonance than the DGS pattern for the same etched square dimension. The hole in the center also can make resonator frequency lower with better characteristic. According to the tunable characteristic of varactor diode, the resonant frequencies can be tunable. Simulation results show that a lower resonance is achieved with active device, compared to a common DGS pattern.
Parameter Estimation of Recurrent Neural Equalizers Using the Derivative-Free Kalman Filter

For the last decade, recurrent neural networks (RNNs) have been commonly applied to communications channel equalization. The major problems of gradient-based learning techniques, employed to train recurrent neural networks are slow convergence rates and long training sequences. In high-speed communications system, short training symbols and fast convergence speed are essentially required. In this paper, the derivative-free Kalman filter, so called the unscented Kalman filter (UKF), for training a fully connected RNN is presented in a state-space formulation of the system. The main features of the proposed recurrent neural equalizer are fast convergence speed and good performance using relatively short training symbols without the derivative computation. Through experiments of nonlinear channel equalization, the performance of the RNN with a derivative-free Kalman filter is evaluated.
Multi-Channel MAC Protocol Using Statistical Channel Utilization for Cognitive Networks

Opportunistic spectrum access (OSA) allows unlicensed users to share licensed spectrum in space and time with no or little interference to primary users, with bring new research challenges in MAC design. We propose a cognitive MAC protocol using statistical channel information and selecting appropriate idle channel for transmission. The protocol based on the CSMA/CA, exploits statistics of spectrum usage for decision making on channel access. Idle channel availability, spectrum hole sufficiency and available channel condition will be included in algorithm statistical information. The model include the control channel and data channel, the transmitter negotiates with receiver on transmission parameters through control channel, statistical decision results (successful rate of transmission) from exchanged transmission parameters of control channel should pass the threshold and decide the data transmission with spectrum hole on data channel. The proposed protocol's simulation will show that proposed protocol does improve the throughput performance via traditional opportunistic spectrum access MAC protocol.
Synchronization Method of Broadcast Messages for Beamforming Performance in Mobile WiMAX Networks

We report that broadcast messages in Mobile WiMAX networks should be synchronized throughout all the base stations to gain the benefit of beamforming technique. A simple synchronization implementation of broadcast messages in Mobile WiMAX networks is presented. Using this technique, the interference between broadcast messages and beamformed messages can be reduced.
Simulation Performance of WAVE System with Combined DD-CE and LMMSE Smoothing Scheme in Small-Scale Fading Models

This paper investigates the performance of IEEE 802.11p wireless access in vehicular environments (WAVE) system in small-scale fading models reported by Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech). We redesign the small-scale fading models to be applied to the computer simulation and develop the IEEE 802.11p WAVE physical layer simulator to provide the bit error rate and packet error rate performances. Moreover, a new channel estimator using decision directed channel estimation and linear minimum mean square error smoothing is proposed in order to improve the performance of the conventional least square channel estimator using two identical long training symbols. The simulation results are satisfactorily coincident with the scenarios of Georgia Tech report, and the proposed channel estimator significantly outperforms the conventional channel estimator.
Implementation of Timing Synchronization in Vehicle Communication System

In the vehicle communication system, transferred information is needed to be detected as possible as fast in order to inform car status located in front and rear side. Through the moving vehicle information, we can avoid the crash caused by sudden break of front one or acquire to real time traffic data to check the detour road. To be connecting the wireless communication between the vehicles, fast timing synchronization can be a key factor. Finding out the sync point fast is able to have more marginal time to compensate the distorted signals caused by channel variance. Thus, we introduce the combination method which helps find out the start of frame quickly. It is executed by auto-correlation and cross-correlation simultaneously using only short preambles. With taking the absolute value at the implemented synch block output, the proposed method shows much better system performance to us.
Design and Implementation of Super-peer P2P Overlay Network Protocol and System for mobile IPTV

Recent researches of network structure are moving to high-level networks because there are already many research results of low-level network. Especially, current network services has been changed to the multimedia service using multicast routing such as IPTV(Internet Protocol Television) service. And then previous multicast services were provider oriented. So previous multicast structures were organized server/client model. But future multicast services will make user oriented services. Therefore there will be many service providers in the future. At this point, we study P2P network for supporting multi provider. So we research load balancing and contents lookup protocols in P2P network. In this paper, we propose network protocol and system based on super peer P2P for load balancing and efficiently service search. And we considered mobile environment for mobile IPTV.

This project is to study and design a meteorological buoy. It mainly covers and compares two approaches to design a meteorological buoy where their functions are same. The comparison will be made between mechanical structure, type of sensors, and electronics system design and power consumption issues.
Adaptive Q-Algorithm for Multiple Tag Identification in EPCglobal Gen-2 RFID System

EPCglobal Class-1 Gen-2 protocol has been proposed for UHF-band RFID systems. In Gen-2 standard, Q-algorithm was proposed to select a frame size for the next query round without estimating the number of tags. Therefore, the Q-algorithm has advantage that the reader's algorithm is simpler than other algorithms. However, it is impossible to allocate the optimized frame size. Also, the original Q-algorithm did not define an optimized parameter C for adjusting the frame size. In this paper, we propose an adaptive Q-algorithm with the different parameter
in accordance with the status of reply slot. Simulation results show that the proposed adaptive Q-algorithm outperforms the original Gen-2 Q-algorithm.
A Study on the Effective Algorithm by Fourier Transform for Numerical Conformal Mapping

Conformal mapping has been a familiar tool of science and engineering for generations. The methods of numerical mapping are usually classified into those which construct the map from standard domain such as the unit disk onto the 'problem domain', and those which construct the map in the reverse direction. We treat numerical conformal mapping from the unit disk onto the Jordan regions as the problem domain in this paper. The traditional standard methods of this type are based on Theodorsen integral equation. Wegmann's method is well known as a Newton-like efficient one for solving Theodorsen equation. An improved method for convergence by applying low frequency pass filter to the Wegmann's method was proposed. In this paper we propose an effective algorithm for numerical conformal mapping based on the improved method. This algorithm is able to determine the discrete numbers and initial values automatically in accordance with the given region and the required accuracy. This results come from analyzing the shape of given domain as seen in the Fourier Transform.

Accelerating the Retinex Algorithm with CUDA

Recently, the television market trend is change to HD television and the need of the study on HD image enhancement is increased rapidly. To enhancement of image quality, the retinex algorithm is commonly used. That's why we studied how to accelerate the retinex algorithm with CUDA on GPGPU (general purpose graphics processing unit). Calculating average part in retinex algorithm is similar to pyramidal calculation. We parallelize this recursive pyramidal average calculating for all layers, map the average data into the 2D plane and reduce the calculating time dramatically. Sequential C code takes 8948ms to get the average values for all layers in
image, but proposed method takes only only about 0.9ms for the same image. We are going to study about the real-time HD video rendering and image enhancement.
Improvised Layout of Mobile Keypad for Filipinos

Filipino language is an Austronesian language based on numerous native languages with influences from other major languages such as English and Spanish. The Filipino alphabet is consists of 26 English alphabets, with the addition of two letters, "
" and "ng", a total of 28 letters. Filipino language expressions and sentences are still incomparable to English and Spanish even though there are numerous borrowed words from these languages. This study aims to discover the uniqueness in the Filipino language by identifying the frequencies of the letters in common words used and be able to introduce a revolutionary keypad for the Filipinos which is scientifically efficient. To compare the efficiency of the revised and the original keypad, computations using Fitts' Law, Hick-Hyman Law and KSPC were done. Results showed that the new keypad layout was more effective than the original keypad. Introducing a improvised keypad to the Filipinos is one step closer in achieving customized services and features to Filipinos in mobile computing.

This paper derives a nominal state relationship (NSR) from the data of a nominal system. Through an example of a second order system, it is shown that the relationship can be derived only in the system with different real eigenvalues. In higher order system, the relationship is expressed by using neural network (NN). The derived NSR is used to design a noble sliding surface with a nominal system characteristic. By using the sliding surface, the robustness of the sliding mode control (SMC) is added to the pole-placement control.
Iris Pattern Positioning with Preserved Edge Detector and Overlay Matching

An iris image pattern positioning with preserved edge detector, ring zone and clock zone, frequency distribution and overlay matching is presented in this paper. Edge detector is required to be powerful and detail. That is proposed by overlaying Canny with LOG (CLOG). The two reference patterns are made from allocating each gray level on the clock zone and ring zone respectively. The normalized target image is overlaid with the clock zone reference pattern and the ring zone pattern to extract overlapped number, and make a matched frequency distribution to look through a symptom and position of human organ and tissue. The iterating experiments result in the ring and clock zone positioning evaluation.
Development and Measurement of Learners' Satisfaction Index Model for Cyber Education

Cyber education has been predicted that it would become the primary education system of 21st century as a way of education focusing on consumers, with the aspect that it seems to be able to satisfy the demand about re-education and lifelong education as the acceleration of fast knowledge accumulation throughout every field of society in the digital era. However, cyber education system has a lot of problems which are for that it lacks of human resources for effective interaction, and it can be disadvantageous to certain type of students with a class environment concentrated on reading and writing and with foundation on computer technology. Therefore, in this thesis, We intended to analyze factors influencing satisfaction of people studying in a situation that cyber education has been required to be a mainstream system of education in the midst of trend of changing paradigm of college education recently, and to suggest some possible solutions for cyber education at university.
