MAXIMAL EXPONENTS OF PRIMITIVE GRAPHS WITH MINIMUM DEGREE 3
Song, Byung Chul ; Kim, Byeong Moon ;
Korean Journal of Mathematics, volume 19, issue 4, 2011, Pages 367~379
DOI : 10.11568/kjm.2011.19.4.367
Abstract
In this paper, we find the maximum exponent of primitive simple graphs G under the restriction
for all vertex
of G. Our result is also an answer of a Klee and Quaife type problem on exponent to find minimum number of vertices of graphs which have fixed even exponent and the degree of whose vertices are always at least 3.

Hwang, In Ho ;
Korean Journal of Mathematics, volume 19, issue 4, 2011, Pages 381~390
DOI : 10.11568/kjm.2011.19.4.381
Abstract
This paper is a direct continuation of [1]. In this paper we derive tensorial representations of contracted ES curvature tensors of
and prove several generalized identities involving them. In particular, a variation of the generalized Bianchi's identity in
, which has a great deal of useful physical applications, is proved in Theorem (2.9).

OSCILLATION AND NONOSCILLATION CRITERIA FOR DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS OF SECOND ORDER
Kim, RakJoong ;
Korean Journal of Mathematics, volume 19, issue 4, 2011, Pages 391~402
DOI : 10.11568/kjm.2011.19.4.391
Abstract
We give necessary and sufficient conditions such that the homogeneous differential equations of the type:
are nonoscillatory where
> 0 for
,
> 0. Under the suitable conditions we show that the above equation is nonoscillatory if and only if for
> 0,
is nonoscillatory. We obtain several comparison theorems.

REMARKS ON A GOLDBACH PROPERTY
Jang, Sun Ju ;
Korean Journal of Mathematics, volume 19, issue 4, 2011, Pages 403~407
DOI : 10.11568/kjm.2011.19.4.403
Abstract
In this paper, we study Noetherian Boolean rings. We show that if R is a Noetherian Boolean ring, then R is finite and
for some integer
. If R is a Noetherian ring, then R/J is a Noetherian Boolean ring, where J is the intersection of all ideals I of R with |R/I| = 2. Thus R/J is finite, and hence the set of ideals I of R with |R/I| = 2 is finite. We also give a short proof of Hayes's result : For every polynomial
of degree
, there are irreducible polynomials
and
, each of degree

THE HOMOLOGY HOMOMORPHISM INDUCED BY HARER MAP
Lee, Deogju ; Song, Yongjin ;
Korean Journal of Mathematics, volume 19, issue 4, 2011, Pages 409~421
DOI : 10.11568/kjm.2011.19.4.409
Abstract
We study a natural map from the braid group to the mapping class group which is called Harer map. It is rather new and different from the classical map which was studied in 1980's by F. Cohen, J. Harer et al. We show that this map is homologically trivial for most coefficients by using the fact that this map factors through the symmetric group.

MULTIPLE SOLUTIONS RESULT FOR THE MIXED TYPE NONLINEAR ELLIPTIC PROBLEM
Jung, Tacksun ; Choi, Q-Heung ;
Korean Journal of Mathematics, volume 19, issue 4, 2011, Pages 423~436
DOI : 10.11568/kjm.2011.19.4.423
Abstract
We obtain a theorem that shows the existence of multiple solutions for the mixed type nonlinear elliptic equation with Dirichlet boundary condition. Here the nonlinear part contain the jumping nonlinearity and the subcritical growth nonlinearity. We first show the existence of a positive solution and next find the second nontrivial solution by applying the variational method and the mountain pass method in the critical point theory. By investigating that the functional I satisfies the mountain pass geometry we show the existence of at least two nontrivial solutions for the equation.

COMPARISON OF COMPUTER PROGRAMS WHICH USED IN STATISTICS TEACHING
Oh, Hyeyoung ;
Korean Journal of Mathematics, volume 19, issue 4, 2011, Pages 453~464
DOI : 10.11568/kjm.2011.19.4.453
Abstract
We used SAS program in statistics class as a plan to increase effect of class. Because lease cost of SAS program is high and low-level students felt difficulty of the syntax of SAS program, I planned to introduce other instruction-software. We observe whether it's O.K. to use Excel instead of SAS program and Excel is helpful in having positive attitudes. We try to compare and analyze the merits of two programs. The purpose of this study is to apply Excel to statistics class, cut down the cost of instruction-software, and make students understand statistics more conveniently and easily.

IDENTITIES ABOUT INFINITE SERIES CONTAINING HYPERBOLIC FUNCTIONS AND TRIGONOMETRIC FUNCTIONS
Lim, Sung-Geun ;
Korean Journal of Mathematics, volume 19, issue 4, 2011, Pages 465~480
DOI : 10.11568/kjm.2011.19.4.465
Abstract
B. C. Berndt established many identities about infinite series. In this paper, continuing his work, we find new identities about infinite series containing hyperbolic functions and trigonometric functions.

ASYMPTOTICALLY LINEAR BEAM EQUATION AND REDUCTION METHOD
Choi, Q-Heung ; Jung, Tacksun ;
Korean Journal of Mathematics, volume 19, issue 4, 2011, Pages 481~493
DOI : 10.11568/kjm.2011.19.4.481
Abstract
We prove a theorem which shows the existence of at least three
-periodic solutions of the wave equation with asymptotical linearity. We obtain this result by the finite dimensional reduction method which reduces the critical point results of the infinite dimensional space to those of the finite dimensional subspace. We also use the critical point theory and the variational method.

A STUDY ON VIRTUAL MATHEMATICS LESSON -focused on pre-service teachers' instructional evaluation-
Seo, J.J. ; Kim, T. ;
Korean Journal of Mathematics, volume 19, issue 4, 2011, Pages 495~521
DOI : 10.11568/kjm.2011.19.4.495
Abstract
In this paper, the self-evaluation, the peer-evaluation and the instructor evaluation on virtual mathematics lesson have been performed. The method of checking on the given evaluation item have been used. In result, a lot of difference was shown between self-evaluation, peer-evaluation and the instructor-evaluation toward virtual mathematics lesson. Pre-service teachers were shown as lacking awareness on instructional Virtual Mathematics Lesson' evaluation. Therefore it seems that we must have the opportunity to reflect on the teaching method through a great deal of experience on self-evaluation and peer-evaluation of virtual lessons.
