19F NMR Study of Fluorinated YBa2Cu3O7-x

A sample of YBa2Cu3O7-x fluorinated by a high temperature (400
) gas exchange technique has been investigated by means of 19F NMR (nuclear magneti resonance) measurements in both superconducting and normal state. As a result, behaviors characteristic of the superconductor, including a peculiarity in the spin-lattice relaxation rate (1/T1) around 250 K, were observed.
Magnetic Properties of Fe3-x MnxO4 Thin Films by FMR

Spinel ferrite thin films Fe3-x MnxO4 (x=0.000, 0.006, 0.0010, 0.015, 0.023) were prepared on the coverglass by ferrite plating technique. To investigate the uniaxial anisotrpy of the samples, the saturation and effective magnetization of the thin films were measured by VSM(vibrating sample magnetometer) and FMR(ferromagnetic resonance) measurements respectively. The spectroscopic splitting g factor were estimated from the ferromagnetic resonance curves. For x=0.000, 0.006, the effective magnetization was measured of temperatures form T=77 K to T=300 K. The results were analyzed in terms of Bloch's law Ms(T) = Ms(0) (1-BT3/2-CT5/2). The Bloch coefficient B, C were determined by fitting. Ms(0) was obtained by extrapolating Meff to 0 K. From this result, the spin wave stiffness constants D was also determined.
Mossbauer Study of EuxFe2-xO3 (x0.8 and 0.7)

The microscopic physical properties of nonstoichiometric garnet EuxFe2-xO3 (x=0.8 and 0.7) have been studied by the methods of X-ray diffraction at room temperature and M ssbauer spectroscopy within the temeperature range of 12-560 K. The X-ray diffraction patterns of the samples show coexistence of dominant garnet and a small portion of unknown crystal phase. But the M ssbauer spectra for the sample of EF08 and EF07 near N el temperature determined to be equally 549
5K show that there are no any other extra crystal phases within the experimental error. The results of which the temperature dependence of M ssbauer parameters was anlyzed by the spin-wave theory and Debye model are in good agreement with the fact that the sample of EF08 has some vacancies at a-and/or d-sites.
Enhancement of Magneto-Optic Figure of Merit of Bi:YIG Films in Blue Wavelengths by La Substitution

This paper reports the first success in enhancement of the magneto-optic figure of merit of garnet films in blue wavelengths. The maximum of the absolute value of the Faraday rotation angle observed at about 500 nm for the films with no La substitution shifted toward shorter wavelength as La content increased, that leads the increase of the absolute value of the Faraday rotation angle in the wavelengths shorter than about 480 nm. The optical absorption coefficient at the wavelengths shorter than 500 nm decreased as La content increased. As a result the magneto-optic figure of merit increased in the wavelengths shorter than 470 nm as La content increased and was about two times larger for the film with La content of 0.6 in formular unit compared to that of the film without La substitution. This might be attributed to the shift of the centers of the charge transfer and crystal field transitions by La substitution.
Investigation of Giant Magnetoresistance in Vacuum-Annealed NiFe/Ag Discontinuous Multilayers

The vacuum-annealed Ni80Fe20/Ag discontinuous multilayers were found to show giant magnetoresistive behaviors comparable to those of corresponding multilayers annealed at atmospheric pressure in a mixture of H2 and Ar. This vacuum-annealing process will offer potential advantages, enabling a continuous batch process from the deposition to the annealing. Their giant magnetoresistive behaviors were attributed to the magnetostatic coupling that are induced at the edges of the discontinuous magnetic grains. We also present our results about the multilayer patterned into a basic device for the magnetic field sensor.
Design of a Sensitive ac Magnetic Susceptibility

A mutual-inductance bridge type ac magnetic susceptibility measurement system was built in our laboratory. With addition of a phase-sensitive prestage, it was simple to implement and provided a high signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio.
Microscopic Interdiffusion in Multilayer Structure

Recently, artificially modulated magnetic multilayer materials, for examples giant magnetoresistant magnetic head materials and magneto-optic recording materials in the wavelength of a blue laser beam, attract great attention in the electronics industry due to their unique properties derived from the modulated multilayer structure. Since the multilayer structure as well as amorphous structure, is non-equilibrium state in terms of free energy, an assessment of the thermal staibility in the multilayer structure is crucially importnat both for basic research and applications. In this review paper, effective microscopic interdiffusion process in the two dimensional multilayer structure will be described in terms of steep concentration gradient effect, strain effect and magnetic transition effect.
