Dynamic Behaviors of Skewed Bridge with PSC Girders Wrapped by Steel Plate

This paper attempts to extract the fundamental dynamic properties, i.e. natural frequencies, damping ratios of the 48 m-long,
skewed real bridge with PSC girders wrapped by a steel plate. The forced vibration test is achieved by mounting 12 Hz-capacity of artificial oscillator on the top of bridge deck. The acceleration histories at the 9 different locations of deck surface are recorded using accelerometors. From this full-scaled vibration test, the two possible resonance frequencies are detected at 2.38 Hz and 9.86 Hz of the skewed bridge deck by sweeping a beating frequency up to 12 Hz. The absolute acceleration/energy exhibits much higher in case of higher-order twist mode, 9.86 Hz due to the skewness of bridge deck which leads asymmetric situation of vibration. This implies the test bridge is under swinging vertically in fundamental flexure mode while the bridge is also flickered up and down laterally at 9.86 Hz. This is probably by asymmetric geometry of skewed deck. A detailed 3D beam-shell bridge models using finite elements are performed under a series of train loads for modal dynamic analyses. Thereby, the effect of skewness is examined to clarify the lateral flickering caused by asymmetrical geometry of bridge deck.
High-speed Trains Driving Functions Analysis Using Systems Engineering

In this paper, driving functions of the Korea High-speed Trains were decomposed based on systems engineering architecture. In order to analyze the driving function, various systems engineering tools and methods were used. Moreover, interfaces of decomposed driving functions were analyzed to figure out purposes of the driving functions. Through activity modeling of driving function of the Korea High-Speed Trains, main functions were derived when starting, speeding and stopping. When the high speed train is speeding, pre-departure checks and wheel slide prevention are essential driving activities for the safety and when the high speed train runs high speed, maintaining driving stability by monitoring bogie hunting and monitoring drivers' safe operation by vigilance systems is important. Furthermore, when the train is braking, the driver should checks brake and suspensions as safety actions.
A Method to Optimize Stability and Wheel Wear in Railway Bogies

In this paper, a procedure is proposed to optimize bogie suspension parameters in view of minimizing wheel wear produced by curve negotiation, though meeting stability requirements. The problem is dealt with in the form of a constrained minimization problem, in which wheel wear evaluated over a given service scenario is introduced as the cost function to be minimized, and the requirements on vehicle stability are formulated in terms of constraints. The procedure is applied to the case of a non-powered passenger car for high-speed service, and the results obtained are discussed. It is shown that long wheelbase bogie may provide better overall performances than bogies having comparatively short wheelbase. Furthermore, a sensitivity analysis is performed, to define the effect on the optimization results of improving the performances of the yaw dampers in the bogie and of using a different wheel profile.
A Study on Intelligent Railway Level Crossing System for Accident Prevention

Accidents at level crossing have large portion on train accidents, and causes economical loss by train delay and operational interruption. Various safety equipments are employed to reduce the accident at level crossing, but existing warning device, and crossing barrier are simple train-oriented protection equipments. In this paper, intelligent railway level crossing system is proposed to prevent and reduce accidents. For train driver's prompt action, image of level crossing and obstacle warning message are continuously provided to train driver through wireless communication in level crossing control zone. Obstacle warning messages, which are extracted by computer vision processing of captured image at level crossing, are recognized by train driver through message color, flickering and warning sound. It helps train driver to decide how to take an action. Meanwhile, for vehicle driver's attention, location and speed of approaching train are given to roadside equipments. We identified the effect of proposed system through test installation at Sea train and Airport level crossing of Yeong-dong line.
