Life Analysis and Reliability Prediction of Micro-Switches based on Life Prediction Method

Reliability means that a product maintains its initial quality and performance at a certain period of time (time, distance, cycle etc) under given condition without failure. The given conditions include both environmental condition and operating condition. Environmental condition means a common natural environment such as temperature, humidity, vibration, and working condition means an artificial environment such as voltage, current load, place for installment, and hours of use, which occurs during the life of the product. In the field of railway vehicles, it is mandatory to use a part with the proved reliability as the extension of the life of vehicle become highly necessary. But the reliable assessment method for the reliability of the part is insufficient. If the reliability of the railway vehicle parts could be assessed by using the field data, the reliability of the entire system could also be evaluated reliably. In this study, life span of micro-switch for master controller is analyzed and prediction is performed based on its field data given by an operator considering the special circumstances of railway vehicles such as the operation of a large number of trains on the same line.
Behavior of Bridge Bearings for Railway Bridges under Running Vehicle

Open steel plate girder (OPSG) bridges are the most prevalent railroad bridge type in Korea, constituting about 40% of all railroad bridges. Solid steel bearings, known as line type bearings, are placed in most OSPG railway bridges. However, the line type rigid bearings generate several problems with the bridge's dynamic behavior and maintenance in service. To compare and investigate the dynamic behaviors of line type, spherical and disk bearings, the vertical displacements of each bearing, including fixed and expansion type, under running vehicles are measured and analyzed. The displacements of disk and spherical bearings are measured after replacing the line type bearings with spherical and disk bearings. This study also analyzed dynamic behaviors of bridges. Furthermore, the deformation of the PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) plate that is placed inside of expansion type spherical and disk bearings is measured and its effect on the dynamic behavior of the bridges is discussed. The up-lift phenomenon at the bearings installed for the steel bridges is estimated. The vertical displacements at mid-span of the bridges are compared according to the bearing types. Finally, the 1st mode natural frequencies are estimated, and the relationship to the vertical displacement is discussed.
The Possibilities to use the Non- Destructive Testing on Diagnosing Wears of Wagon Chassis

This report is devoted to the problems of Mongolian Railway Transportation Safety such as high length of wagon service life, defects due to the more factors of exploitation, idle time, increase of faults, poor condition of repairing shops and more hand and mechanical operations and these conditions are quite difficult to meet the safety and reliability of increasing transportation from day to day. The paper discusses that the most optimum solution is diagnosing before occurring wear, breakdown, and defects on the basis of studying characteristics of structural material breakdown, residual methods of voltage, effects of material hardness and linear defects of a crystal net and the reform of machines is very important to implement it. It focuses the structures, characteristics of the material transportation and tests and analyses of the wagon cart which has to meet the traffic safety of wagons and slow and soft movement. The study is done on the wagon chassis which has to meet the traffic safety of luggage wagons.
An Assessment of the Usage of the Lagos Mass Transit Trains

The rail sector, despite its potential for curtailing the present chaotic transport situation in Lagos, remains inefficient and underutilized. In spite of past initiatives and the current attempt by the Lagos State Government to provide a mass transit rail service in Lagos, the share of rail mode in the transport sector has not been encouraging and the railway plays an insignificant role in urban mass transit in Lagos at present. This paper sets out to assess the usage of the Lagos mass transit trains. Hence, the paper determines the passenger traffic flow along the rail route in Lagos and the number of passengers carried between 2000 and 2009 by the Lagos Mass Transit Trains (LMTT) with a view to assessing the usage of the present LMTT. This paper also discusses the historical development of Nigerian railway and describes rail transport in Lagos. Data were obtained through secondary sources coupled with review of literature. The result of this study shows that for a period of 10 years (2000-2009), Lagos mass transit trains carried a total of 9,870,101 passengers, which gives an average of 987,010 passengers annually. This suggests that the service of the Lagos mass transit train is grossly underutilized. However, LMTT contributes enormously to NRC by carrying 68.5% of the total passenger traffic of NRC between 2000 and 2009. In terms of passenger traffic flow along the route of LMTT, for a period of 1 year, Agbado station recorded the largest number of passengers (393,811), followed by Ijoko (163,652) and Iddo (120,787), while Iganmu station has the lowest number of rail commuters (16,919). This study also discloses that the major commodities hauled by Lagos district of NRC from Lagos to the northern parts of the country in 2007 are Cars, Cement, Billet and Wheat.
Prospects for the use of Multiphase Inverter-fed Asynchronous Drives in the Field of Traction Systems of Railway Vehicles

At present among the most important problems in the field of traction systems of railway vehicles are the following: 1) the minimization of the mass-and-overall dimensions of the drive systems; 2) the increase of the drive systems reliability and obtaining their higher fault-tolerance abilities; 3) the minimization of the motion speed pulsations and its oscillations, etc. The results of the researches received by the authors of this paper show that the use of the multiphase (i.e. having the number of phases more than four) inverter-fed induction motors in these traction systems is the most effective way of solving the above mentioned problems. In this case the motion speed oscillations can be decreased only by the increase of the drive phase number without any change in the inverter control algorithm. In addition, the application of some non-traditional control methods in the multiphase asynchronous traction drive system of a railway vehicle allows to decrease the mass-and-overall dimensions of the system and to improve its reliability and some other technical-and economic characteristics.
A Study on the New Aptitude Test Items for the Safety Critical Workers: Focused on Stress Tolerance under Emergency and Solitary Driving Situation

The main purpose of this study is to highlight the importance and validity of introduction of stress-concerned aptitude items for the safety critical workers, corresponding to the radical environmental change in railway industry. To attain this purpose, the author performed a brief literature survey, and scrutinized the western practice in detail. Then, the necessity of introduction of stress-related aptitude items was suggested, based on the statistics resulted from a survey which has been once performed for experts and drivers. The final conclusion is that the present selection system through which the safety critical workers are being staffed, without any rigorous screening mechanisms cannot but have some limitations. So, an overall restructuring for aptitude management system needs to be done in order for us to advance to the position of upper-class railway country.
