Efficient Token Flow Design for the MPEG RMC Framework

This paper proposes an efficient token flow design methodology for a decoder in the MPEG Reconfigurable Media Coding (RMC) framework. The MPEG RMC framework facilitates a decoder to be configured with a set of modules called functional units (FUs) that are connected by tokens. Such a modular design philosophy of the MPEG RMC framework enables the reusability and reconfigurability of FUs. One drawback of the MPEG RMC framework is that the decoder performance can be affected by increasing the token transmissions between FUs. The proposed method improves the design of the FU network in the RMC framework toward real-time decoder implementation. In the proposed method, the merging of FU, the separation of token flow, and the merging of token transactions are applied to minimize the token traffic between FUs. The experimental results of the MPEG-4 SP decoder show that the proposed method reduces the total decoding time by up to 77 percent compared to the design of the RMC simulation model.
Noise Robust Automatic Speech Recognition Scheme with Histogram of Oriented Gradient Features

In this paper, we propose a novel technique for noise robust automatic speech recognition (ASR). The development of ASR techniques has made it possible to recognize isolated words with a near perfect word recognition rate. However, in a highly noisy environment, a distinct mismatch between the trained speech and the test data results in a significantly degraded word recognition rate (WRA). Unlike conventional ASR systems employing Mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCCs) and a hidden Markov model (HMM), this study employ histogram of oriented gradient (HOG) features and a Support Vector Machine (SVM) to ASR tasks to overcome this problem. Our proposed ASR system is less vulnerable to external interference noise, and achieves a higher WRA compared to a conventional ASR system equipped with MFCCs and an HMM. The performance of our proposed ASR system was evaluated using a phonetically balanced word (PBW) set mixed with artificially added noise.
Comparative Performance Analysis of High Speed Low Power Area Efficient FIR Adaptive Filter

This paper presents the comparative performance of an adaptive FIR filter for a Delayed LMS algorithm. The delayed error signal was used to obtain a Delayed LMS algorithm to allow efficient pipelining for achieving a small critical path and area efficient implementation. This paper presents hardware efficient results (device utilization parameters) and power consumed. The FPGA families (Artix-7, Virtex-7, and Kintex-7) for a low voltage perspective are shown. The synthesis results showed that the artix-7 CMOS family achieves the lowest power consumption of 1.118 mW with 83.18 % device utilization. Different Precision strategies, such as the speed optimization and power optimization, were imposed to achieve these results. The algorithm was implemented using MATLAB (2013b) and synthesized on the Leonardo spectrum.
Multi-Frame Super-Resolution of High Frequency with Spatially Weighted Bilateral Total Variance Regularization

Bayesian based Multi-Frame Super-Resolution (MF-SR) has been used as a popular and effective SR model. On the other hand, the texture region is not reconstructed sufficiently because it works on the spatial domain. In this study, the MF-SR method was extended to operate on the frequency domain to improve HF information as much as possible. For this, a spatially weighted bilateral total variation model was proposed as a regularization term for a Bayesian estimation. The experimental results showed that the proposed method can recover the texture region more realistically with reduced noise, compared to conventional methods.
Spectrum Reuse with Power Control for Two-Tier Femtocell Networks

This paper considers two-tier networks consisting of macrocells and femtocells operating in the same spectrum. This paper proposes a femtocell spectrum reuse scheme that determines the shared spectrum and transmit power for the femtocells to mitigate the effects of cross-tier interference between the macrocells and femtocells. The proposed scheme provides macrocell throughput that is unaffected by the increasing number of femtocells per cell site and improves the femtocell signal quality at the same time by limiting the cross-tier interference. This study analyzed the per-tier signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) and outage probability of the proposed scheme to investigate the macrocell and femtocell performance. The total throughput of the proposed scheme was analyzed based on the outage probabilities. The analysis and numerical results proved that high femtocell throughput can be achieved using only a small fraction of the spectrum while protecting the macrocell throughput. As a result, an improved total throughput was achieved enforcing higher spatial reuse.
On Power Allocation Schemes for Bi-directional Communication in a Spectrum Sharing-based Cognitive Radio System

This paper presents the results of an investigation into bi-directional communication in spectrum sharing-based cognitive radio (Bi-CR) systems. A Bi-CR system can increase the spectral efficiency significantly by sharing the spectrum and through the bi-directional use of spatial resources for two-way communication. On the other hand, the primary user experiences more interference from the secondary users in a Bi-CR system. Satisfying the interference constraint by simply reducing the transmission power results in performance degradation for secondary users. In addition, secondary users also experience self-interference from echo channels due to full duplexing. These imperfections may weaken the potential benefits of the Bi-CR system. Therefore, a new way to overcome these defects in the Bi-CR system is needed. To address this need, this paper proposes some novel power allocation schemes for the Bi-CR system. This contribution is based on two major analytic environments, i.e., noise-limited and interference-limited environments, for providing useful analysis. This paper first proposes an optimal power allocation (OPA) scheme in a noise-limited environment and then analyzes the achievable sum rates. This OPA scheme has an effect in the noise-limited environment. In addition, a power allocation scheme for the Bi-CR system in an interference-limited environment was also investigated. The numerical results showed that the proposed schemes can achieve the full duplexing gain available from the bi-directional use of spatial resources.
MAC Layer Based Certificate Authentication for Multiple Certification Authority in MANET

In this study, a novel Randomly Shifted Certification Authority Authentication protocol was used in ad hoc networks to provide authentication by considering the MAC layer characteristics. The nodes achieve authentication through the use of public key certificates issued by a CA, which assures the certificate's ownership. As a part of providing key management, the active CA node transfers the image of the stored public keys to other idle CA nodes. Finally the current active CA randomly selects the ID of the available idle CA and shifts the CA ownership by transferring it. Revoking is done if any counterfeit or duplicate non CA node ID is found. Authentication and integrity is provided by preventing MAC control packets, and Enhanced Hash Message Authentication Code (EHMAC) can be used. Here EHMAC with various outputs is introduced in all control packets. When a node transmits a packet to a node with EHMAC, verification is conducted and the node replies with the transmitter address and EHMAC in the acknowledgement.
Infrared LED-Based Arcade Gun System for Wide Screen

The arcade gun has been a popular game controller in the video game market from the 1970s. The arcade gun, which is used partially in game centers and domestic games, recently is utilized as the interface for the interactive system and tangible media. On the other hand, the existing arcade gun has limits on hardware so it is unsuitable for wide screens. In addition, being platform-dependent, it is inapplicable to various types of content as a single module. This study suggests a correction algorithm that establishes an arcade gun system based on an infrared camera to solve those drawbacks and apply to possibly numerous surroundings.
Automotive Diagnostic Gateway using Diagnostic over Internet Protocol

Recently, Ethernet-based Diagnostic Over Internet Protocol (DoIP) was applied to automotive systems, and in-vehicle gateways have been introduced to integrate Ethernet with traditional in-vehicle networks, such as the local interconnect network (LIN), controller area network (CAN) and FlexRay. The introduction of in-vehicle gateways and of Ethernet based diagnostic protocols not only decreases the complexity of the networks, but also reduces the update time for ECU software reprogramming while enabling the use of a range of services, including remote diagnostics. In this paper, a diagnostic gateway was implement for an automotive system, and the performance measurements are presented. In addition, a range of applications provided by the diagnostic gateway are proposed.
Improving Malicious Web Code Classification with Sequence by Machine Learning

Web applications make life more convenient. Many web applications have several kinds of user input (e.g. personal information, a user's comment of commercial goods, etc.) for the activities. On the other hand, there are a range of vulnerabilities in the input functions of Web applications. Malicious actions can be attempted using the free accessibility of many web applications. Attacks by the exploitation of these input vulnerabilities can be achieved by injecting malicious web code; it enables one to perform a variety of illegal actions, such as SQL Injection Attacks (SQLIAs) and Cross Site Scripting (XSS). These actions come down to theft, replacing personal information, or phishing. The existing solutions use a parser for the code, are limited to fixed and very small patterns, and are difficult to adapt to variations. A machine learning method can give leverage to cover a far broader range of malicious web code and is easy to adapt to variations and changes. Therefore, this paper suggests the adaptable classification of malicious web code by machine learning approaches for detecting the exploitation user inputs. The approach usually identifies the "looks-like malicious" code for real malicious code. More detailed classification using sequence information is also introduced. The precision for the "looks-like malicious code" is 99% and for the precise classification with sequence is 90%.
Implementation and Field Test for Smart Hybrid Mobile Broadcasting System

The era of convergence is being applied to all areas of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The convergence of broadcasting service and communication service almost occurs on smart devices including smartphone. The smart hybrid Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) is a typical example of the convergence of broadcasting and wireless communication service. The hybrid mobile broadcasting service can support seamless video, 3D, high quality, and additional data services based on network connection between the broadcasting and wireless network. The gateway and terminal (including apps on the smartphone) take the role of the main components on the hybrid service. This paper presents the service concept, main components structure, the implementation of gateway and terminals, and field test to the urban areas for the mobile hybrid system.
Surface Treatment of Ge Grown Epitaxially on Si by Ex-Situ Annealing for Optical Computing by Ge Technology

Ge is becoming an increasingly popular semiconductor material with high Si compatibility for on-chip optical interconnect technology. For a better manifestation of the meritorious material properties of Ge, its surface treatment should be performed satisfactorily before the electronic and photonic components are fabricated. Ex-situ rapid thermal annealing (RTA) processes with different gases were carried out to examine the effects of the annealing gases on the thin-film quality of Ge grown epitaxially on Si substrates. The Ge-on-Si samples were prepared in different structures using the same equipment, reduced-pressure chemical vapor deposition (RPCVD), and the samples annealed in
, forming gas (FG), and
were compared with the unannealed (deposited and only cleaned) samples to confirm the improvements in Ge quality. To evaluate the thin-film quality, room-temperature photoluminescence (PL) measurements were performed. Among the compared samples, the
-annealed samples showed the strongest PL signals, regardless of the sample structures, which shows that ex-situ RTA in the
environment would be an effective technique for the surface treatment of Ge in fabricating Ge devices for optical computing systems.
I/E Selective Activation based Knowledge Reconfiguration mechanism and Reasoning

As the role of information collection becomes increasingly important in the enormous data environment, there is growing demand for more intelligent information technologies for managing complex data. On the other hand, it is difficult to find a solution because of the data complexity and big scaled amount. Accordingly, there is a need for a special intelligent knowledge base frame that can be operated by itself flexibly. In this paper, by adopting switching function for signal transmission in the synapse of the human brain, I/E selective activation based knowledge reconfiguring mechanism is proposed for building more intelligent information management system. In particular, knowledge network design, a special knowledge node structure, Type definition, I/E gauge definition and I/E matching scheme are provided. Using these concepts, the proposed system makes the functions of activation by I/E Gauge, selection and reconfiguration. In a more efficient manner, the routing and reasoning process was performed based on the knowledge reconfiguration network. In the experiments, the process of selection by I/E matching, knowledge reconfiguration and routing & reasoning results are described.
