Equipment Failure Forecasting Based on Past Failure Performance and Development of Replacement Strategies

When only partial information is available about equipment failures (installation date and amount, as well as failure and replacement rates), data on sufficiently large number of yearly populations of the components can be combined, and estimation of model parameters may be possible. The parametric models may then be used for forecasting of the system's short term future failure and for formulation of replacement strategies. We employ the Weibull distribution and show how we estimate its parameters from past failure data. Using Monte Carlo simulations, it is possible to assess confidence ranges of the forecasted component performance data.
Behavior of Residual Charges in Water-tree Degraded XLPE Sheets and Cable

Many studies have been done on the application of residual charge measurement in cable degradation diagnosis. In this paper, the behavior of residual charges measured with water-tree degraded XLPE sheets and cable are discussed. At charge injection process, the charge is injected by applying dc voltage as a conventional method, suddenly cut-off ac voltage or impulse voltage. Therefore the residual charge is influenced by the applying process. At charge release process, transient dc current flows when applying ac high voltage and also ac high voltage superimposed to dc low voltage. From the results, new diagnosis method is suggested.

One of the methods currently being investigated as a possible non-intrusive diagnostic tool for condition monitoring of power transformer and cable is the recovery voltage measurement, which will be improving the ability to detect the content of water concentration and the ageing process in the insulation system and may thus be an indicator of insulation quality and its ageing status. The polarization phenomenon was studied using RVM with oil-paper samples. In order to interpret its mechanism, the Extended Debye model was introduced. With different circuit parameters, various simulation results were gotten. Furthermore, with the test samples of different ageing condition, measurements are accomplished in the lab. On the basis of this experiment as well as theoretical analysis, correlations between polarizations and ageing were analyzed.
Space Charge Measurement as a Diagnostic Tool to Monitor Ageing in Polymeric Materials

Charge dynamics in polymeric materials after aged under ac electric field using the pulsed electroacoustic (PEA) technique is reported. The emphasis is placed on charge decay. The charge dynamics of the ac aged additive free low density polyethylene (LDPE) samples under dc bias differ from the sample without ac ageing, indicating changes brought in by ac ageing. It is believed that a slow decay rate of charge in the ac aged sample is related to the formation of deep traps in the material. However, chemical analysis by infrared spectroscope (FTIR) and Raman microscope reveals no significant chemical changes taken place in the bulk of the material after ac ageing. Further experiments on irradiated LDPE have revealed a similar behaviour, i.e. the charge decay is slower in irradiated samples than that of fresh sample. The findings presented clearly indicate that space charge measurement can be used as a diagnostic tool to monitor ageing in polymeric materials.
The Model of Propagation of the Own Electromagnetic Radiation of the HV Equipment on Substations

The mathematical model of the power substation is proposed. The substation esteems as a set of the equipment elements which integrated common connections and electromagnetic field. Some capabilities of model represented by both electric networks and a discrete logical model demonstrated by non-directional graph. The model can be useful for solution of the problem of diagnostic of the high-voltage equipment.
Investigation of On-line Monitoring Method on 1500 V Direct Current Cable of Subway

The traction DC feeder cable is one of the key devices for the safety operation of subway system, but for low voltage DC feeder cable (<3000 V) for subway, little attention has been paid by investigators on its online monitoring technology. With an introduction of cable laying and operation environment for the cable, this paper investigated the on-line monitoring technology of 1500 V DC feeder cable of subway. Firstly, in the text, the fault model of 1500 V DC cable was proposed based on the analysis of the fault type of the DC feeder cable, and then put forward synthetically on-line monitoring discharge signal and DC leakage current signal to assess DC feeder cable insulating state. The results of laboratory experiment prove that the proposed methods are feasible and can be implemented on-line monitor on DC feeder cable of subway.
Study of PD Location in Generators by PD Pulses Propagation

When a partial discharge takes place at the stator of a generator, the electrical pulse will propagate along the stator bars and the capacitor chains formed by the end part of the stator winds. On the first path, the pulse propagates as a travel wave at slow speed. On the second path, the pulse propagates at quick speed. Based on the data of the experiments on a real 50 MW steam generator, the author has found the pulses can propagate by magnetic field of the stator winding. It was studied that how to locating the partial discharge by signals coming from the different paths, including the features of signals on the two paths at time domain and frequency domain, the measurement frequency rang of the signals, the blind area, the advantage and disadvantage of this method.
Electrical Properties of MIM and MIS Structure using Carbon Nitride Films

Correlation between Insulation Diagnostic Test and AC Breakdown Test for 3.3 kV Class Induction Motor

The insulation diagnostic test and the AC breakdown test were performed under off-line using the 3.3 kV class induction motor which have been served for 10 years. These tests were conducted in means of nondestructive and destructive test. In this paper, we compared the correlation between the nondestructive and destructive test. Furthermore we setup an experimental condition with moisture and compared the insulation characteristics between moist and dry sample. From the results of the nondestructive and destructive test, it was found that the second AC current, which is the previous step of insulation breakdown, suddenly increased at a point of around 8.5 kV. The insulation breakdown of moist sample occurred at 12-14 kV, which is 4-5 kV lower than dry sample.
