Unified Approach to Coefficient of Determination
Using Likelihood Distancd
Korean Journal of Applied Statistics, volume 4, issue 2, 1991, Pages 117~127
Coefficient of determination
is most frequently used descriptive measure in practical use of linear regression analysis. But there have been controversies on defining this measure in the cases of linear regression without the intercept, weighted linear regression and robust linear regression. Several authors such as Kvalseth(1985) and Willet and Singer(1988) proposed many variations of
to meet the situations. However, theire measures are not satisfactory due to the lack of a universal principle. In this study, we propose a unfied approach to defining the coefficient of determination
using the concept of likelihood distance. This new measure is in good accordance with typical
in linear regression and, moreover, can be applied to nonlinear regression models and generalized linear models such as logit and log-linear models.
A note on
-unbiased estimation for location and scale parameters
Korean Journal of Applied Statistics, volume 4, issue 2, 1991, Pages 129~135
A few simple methods to find
-unbiased estimators for location and scale parameters are summarized and examples utilizing diffusivity, a natural measure of dispersion for
-unbiased estimators, are given.
A study on sampling design for house price survey in city area
Korean Journal of Applied Statistics, volume 4, issue 2, 1991, Pages 137~148
This paper describes the design of sample of the survey on the trend of house prices in city areas. The purpose of this research is to increase the precision of house price index in 39 cities and to provide with an accurate house price indes. The sample is selected in the stratified two stage sampling. In chapter 2, review and discussions are given on the sample design now in use. In chapter 3, we describe the sample size and the stratification, the house price index and error, and the substitution of sample. Finally we consider on problems of the sample design and some alternatives to solve them.
Asymptotic Density of Quadratic Forms
Korean Journal of Applied Statistics, volume 4, issue 2, 1991, Pages 149~156
The theory of the asymptotic behavior of Toeplitz forms is applicable to some problems concerning the local limit theorem.
A goodness - of - fit test for the exponential distribution with unknown parameters
Korean Journal of Applied Statistics, volume 4, issue 2, 1991, Pages 157~170
This article is concerned with the goodness - of - fit test for exponentiality when both the scale and location parameters are unknown. A test procedure based on the
-norm of discrepancy between the cumulative distribution function and the empirical distribution function is proposed, and the critical values of the test statistic are obtained by Monte Carlo simulations. Also the null distributions of the proposed test statistic are presented for small sample sizes. The power of tests under certain alternative distributions is investigated to compare the proposed test statistic with the well-known EDF test statistics. Our Monte Carlo power studies reveal that the proposed test statistic has good power properties, for moderate-to-large sample sizes, in comparison to other statistics although it is a conservative test.
D-optimal design in polynomial spline regression
Korean Journal of Applied Statistics, volume 4, issue 2, 1991, Pages 171~178
For the polynomial spline regression with fixed knots, some properties of the D-optimal design are discussed. Also the D-optimal design for some cases are found analytically by using a normalized B-spline basis for
. Based on the Kiefer-Wolfowitz equivalence theorem, the D-optimal design for some cases are found by numerical methods.
Study to the randomized response model
Korean Journal of Applied Statistics, volume 4, issue 2, 1991, Pages 179~193
In this paper, we introduce various methods of PR techniques initiated by S. Warner in 1960's and examine the maximum likelihood estimator for them. One of the main subjects of this paper is to represent Warner model, Unrelated Question Model, and Multi-Proportion Model in linear model. The other subject is to study the inference of PR model by using the Bayesian Approach.
Local Influence Approach Diagnostics for Optimal Experimental Design
Korean Journal of Applied Statistics, volume 4, issue 2, 1991, Pages 195~207
We consider the development of simple regression-like diagnostics for assessing the sensitivity of an optimal design to deviations from the assumptions of constant error variance. This contains a review of Cook's local influence approach and an application of local influence aproach to D-optimal experimental design. The method is applied in a number of simple examples in Section 3. Conclusions and directions for further research follow in Section 4.
