Effects Of Phosphate Application Rate on the Growth Characteristics, Yield and Feed Value of Whole Crop Azuki bean in Jeju Island

This study was determined to the growth characteristic, yield and chemical content of Azuki bean(Vigna angularis W.F.
) based on five phosphate rates (0, 40, 50, 120, 160, 200kg/ha) from May, 2002 to August, 2002 in Jeju province. Plant height was 80.7cm at 0kg/ha of phosphate level md, as phosphate rates were increased to 160kg/ha and 200kg/ha, lengthened 88.8cm and 88.9cm, respectively, but between the two phosphat levels were no significance(P＞0.05 or 0.0l). Numbs. of branches and leaves per plant, stem diameter, and weight of leaves and stems per plant were the same response with plant height. Fresh forage, dry matter, crude protein, and TDN(total digestible nutrient) yield at the control were 23.8MT/ha, 3MT/ha, 0.5MT/ha and 1.8MT/ha, respectively, at the 200kg/ha plot were 47.3MT/ha, 7.2MT/ha, 1.3MT/ha, and 4.7MT/ha, respectively, as phosphate rate was increased. As phosphate rate increased from 0kg/ha to 200kg/ha, the content of crude protein, crude fat NFE(nitrogen free extract) and TDN increased 15.2%~18.6%, 3.4%~4.5%, 41.4%~45.5% and 58.3%~65.5%, respectively, whereas the content of crude fiber and crude ash were decreased 31.5%~24.8% and 8.1%~6.6%, respectively.
Effect of Seeding Dates on the Growth Characteristics, Yield and Feed Value of Whole Crop Azuki bean in Jeju Island

This study was conducted to determine the influence of seeding date (May 3, 13, 23, June 2, 12) on the growth characteristics yield and feed value Azuki bean(Vigna angularis W.F. Wight) from May 3, 2002 to August 3, 2002 in Jeju province. Plant height was the longest (84cm) when seeded on 13 May and was the shortest (48.4cm) when seeded on 12 June. Numbers of branches and leaves per plant, stem diameter and weight of leaves and stems per plant were the same trend with plant height. Fresh forage, fry matter, crude protein and TDN(total digestible nutrient) yield per ha at were increased to 54.6MT, 7.7MT, 1.4MT and 4.5MT, respectively, whereas decreased as seeding date was delayed and then at seeding on 12 June were decreased to 11.5MT/ha 2.12MT/ha 0.4MT/ha and 1.3MT/ha, respectively The content of crude protein, crude fat, NFE(nitrogen free extract) and TDN were incresed 17.6%∼21.3%, 3.3%∼4.5%, 34.3%∼41.4% and 56%∼64.8%, respectively, as seeding was delayed from 3 May to 13 June. Whereas the content of crude fiber and crede ash were decreased 33.8%∼23.5% and 11%∼9.3％, respectively.

treatment without soil improver, the seedling vigour and yields of both forages were markedly enhanced by the application of soil improver. The positive offsets of soil improvers tended to be relative higher on ladino clover than orchardgrass in mixed swards. ). In the grass-clover mixed swards, the application of kieserite more remarkedly influenced the seedling vigour, botanical composition, and yield of clover than those of grass.
Effects of Split Nitrogen Application on Growth Characters, Yield Potential and Feed Value in Jeju Italian Millet

This study was conducted at a volcanic ash soil in the Experimental Farm of Cheju national university from May 1, 2000 to August 25, 2000 to determine the optimum frequency of split N application for. forage production of Jeju Italian millet(Setaria italica Beauvis). N .rate was applied with 200kg N/ha, and frequencies of the split application were 1. 2, 3, 4 and f times. Days to heading was 87 days in the N applied plot all at once, was delayed to 93 days at the five times split-applied plot. Plant height was the greatest (143cm) at the four times split-applied plot, but above o. below that was short. Leaf length, number of leaves and nodes were a similar tendency to plant height. SPAD(Soil Plant Analysis Development) reading values rose 34.3∼36.2 as N was split-applied from one to five times. Fresh forage, dry matter, crude Protein and TDN yield at the H split-applied to four times increased 33.08∼5l.50MT/ha, 9.94∼13.36MT/ha, 0.93∼1.70MT/ha and 5.06∼7.28MT/ha, respectively, but at the five tines split-applied plot decreased to 49.33MT/ha, 12.69MT/ha, 1.65MT/ha and 6.98 MT/ha, respectively. As the increasing of N split-applied. crude protein, crude fat NFE and TDN content increased 9.4∼13.0％, 1.5∼l.9％, 44.5∼45.5% and 50.9∼55.0％, respectively, whereas crude fiber and crude ash content decreased 35.3∼31.6% and 9.3∼8.3, respectively.
Effects of Rare Earth and Nitrogen Application on the Growth and Nitrate Content of Chicory

The effect of rare earth(RE) at three difference levels of nitrogen on the growth and nitrate content of chicory (Cichorium intybus L.) were studied in terms of leaf size, fresh and dry weight increase, and chlorophyll and nitrate content grown in plastic pots within glasshouse. Leaf size was enlarged as the level of nitrogen applied was high, and leaf within, length, and thickness of leaf were increased by RE treatment showing significant difference at high nitrogen(N+1) plot. As the level of nitrogen applied was high, as fresh and dry weight per plant was increased significantly(p<0.05), and sprinkling cabbage with RE increased fresh and dry matter yield to 2∼12, 4∼6.2% more, respectively. Dry matter content of Chinese cabbage was increased by RE sprinkling. At all levels of nitrogen fertilized chlorophyll contents were increased by RE treatment. As the level of nitrogen was high, as the content of chlorophyll was highly increased by RE. Nitrate was accumulated more at high level of nitrogen application, but nitrate was decreased by RE application, 40% decrease at very high nitrogen plot(N+2). RE stimulated the growth of chicory with high chlorophyll content, and showed the possibility producing high quality agricultural products low in nitrate content.
Effect of Seeding Times and Mixture Rates of Oat and Forage Rape on the Growth Characteristics and Forage Yields After the Harvest of Potatoes in Jeju.

This study was conducted to determine the effect of seeding times and mixture rates of oat and forage rape on the growth characteristics and forage yields during rest periods from March to June after the harvest of potatoes in potato cultivation fields located in the areas about 600m above the sea level in Jeju. The experiment was a split plot desist with seeding times(early, middle and late March) sown . at intervals of ten days from early March to late March as the nam plots and mixture rates as subplots, consisted of oat single(150kg/ha), forage rape single(15kg/ha), oat/rape mixtures 75 : 25% (112.5kg/ha of oat and 3.75kg/ha of rape), oat/rape mixtures 50 : 50％(75kg/ha of oat and 7.5kg/ha of rape) and oat/rape mixtures 25 : 75％(37.5kg/ha of oat and 11.3kg/ha of rape). The germination and establishment of eat and rape were not significantly different among seeding times and mixture rates. The plant heights were higher when seeded middle March compared to seeding times of early and late March. The growth stage of the oats seeded early March was dough stage, while that of oats seeded middle or late March was milk stage. The dry matter yields per ha were higher(p<0.05) when seeded middle March than those of seeding time of early and late March. The crude protein contents of rape single, mixtures and oat single treatments were 15.9, 12.4∼14.5 and 8.5％, respectively.
Callus formation Ratio and Regeneration Efficiency of Orchardgrass Varieties Developed in Korea

Comparisons of callus formation ratios from seed explants, callus sizes, regeneration ratios from callus and regeneration efficiency for 4 orchardgrass (Dactylis glomerata L.) varieties (Three were developed in Korea and one was imported from foreign nation) are as follows; Jangbeol 102 (67.0%) has the highest callus formation ratio in 4 weeks incubated callus after bedding the seed explants, but Potomac (68.4%) has the highest ratio in 6-week callus. Potomac (3.91cm) has the highest callus size in 4-week callus, but Jangbeol 101 (4.32cm) has the highest size in 6-week callus. Jangbeol 101 (17.7%) has the highest plant regeneration ratio in 4-week callus, but Potomac (37.4%) has the highest ratio in f-week callus. Jangbeol 102 (11.5%) has the highest plant regeneration efficiency in 4-week callus, but Potomac (25.6%) has the highest efficiency in 6-week callus.
Growth Characteristics and Productivities of Alfalfa (Medicago sativa) Varieties at the Alpine Areas

This study was conducted to select the promising varieties of alfalfa (va.) Venal, Ancho., P5444, DK120, DK125, Horizon, DK135, Luna and Kitawacaba at Daekwanryong branch(altitude 800m a.s.l.) and Namwon branch(altitude 450m a.5.1.) of National Livestock Research Institute Leaf width of alfalfa was broad in all varieties except fer Vernal, and DK125 was flowered the earliest of all varieties. Plant height of Luna was the longest, and winter hardness of P5444 was the greatest with 80.2% of all varieties. In Daekwanryong, dry matter(DM) yield of Luna was the highest and DM yield of vernal was the lowest among the varieties in Namwon. In both areas, dry matter yield ef P5444 was the highest of alfalfa varieties. In Daekwanryong, ADF and NDF concentrations of DK 120 were the lowest of all alfalfa varieties. In Namwon, ADF concentrations of Horizon was the lowest with 26％, and NDF concentrations of DK 125 and Horizon was the lowest with 40.8%. Crude protein concentrations of P5444, Luna and DK 120 were higher than that of different varieties in Daekwanryong and crude protein content of Horizon was the highest with 28.1% in Namwon. Average crude protein yield of both areas was the highest of P5444. The results of this study indicated that Luna, Horizon and P5444 would be the promising alfalfa varieties in Daekwanryong, Namwon and both areas, respectively.
