Hematological Change of Korean Native Goats Experimentally Infected with Bovine Leukemia Virus
Korean Journal of Veterinary Service, volume 18, issue 1, 1995, Pages 1~21
To elucidate pathogenesis of bovine leukemia virus(BLV) in Korean native goats, the goats experimentally infected with BLV were studied especially for the aspects of infectivity and hematological changes. The experimental goats were examined for 27 months by agar-gel immunodiffusion(AGID) test and syncytium formation assay. During this period, changes of total leucocyte, absolute Iymphocyte and atypical Iymphocyte were examined, and the distribution of surface immunoglobulin ( sIg ) -bearing cells and rosette forming cell (RFC) in the peripheral Iymphocyte were also investigated. By indirect immunofluorescence (IFA) and complement dependent antibody cytotoxicity (CDAC) assay using monoclonal antibody(Mab) against bovine leukosis tumor-associated anti-gen(BL-TAA), changes of BL-TAA positive Iymphocyte in peripheral blood were measured. The results obtained through the experiment were summarized as follows. 1. Antibody titers were measured by AGID using gP51 and P24 antigens. The animals were serologically converted at 2 months post-inoculation(pi) in gP51 antigen, whereas sero-converted at 4 months pi in P24 antigen. In comparison with antibody titers for gP51, P24 antigen showed lower titers throughout the trial period. 2. The peripheral lymphocytes from all of the infected goats, as co-cultivated with F8l cells manifested syncytial formation at 4 months pi. 3. On counting total leucocyte, Iymphocyte and atypical Iymphocyte, two out of four infected goats showed normal distribution, while No 2 of the remaining two revealed temporal and No 3, Persistant increasing number of the cells. 4. The optimal condition of rosette formation of the peripheral Iymphocyte of normal Korean native goats was shown in the sheep erythrocyte treated with 0.1M AET for 30 nun at
. When the Iymphocytes were treated in nylon wool column, the number of sIg-bear-ing cell were increased in the nylon wool adherent cells, but RFC was increased in the non-adherent cells. Of the infected goats, No 2 and No 3 showed significantly increasing number of sIg-bearing cells at 18 months pi. 5. The Iymphocytes of No 2 and No 3 goats reacted positively in IFA using Mab against BL-TAA at 12 months pi and 18 months pi, respectively. In CDAC test, all of four infected goats revealed positive reaction at 24 months pi. The higher positive rates were observed in No 2 and No 3 as compared with the remainders.
Studies on partial characteyization and pathogenicity of atypical Aeronionas salmonicida EL-I isolated from diseased cultrued Eel
Korean Journal of Veterinary Service, volume 18, issue 1, 1995, Pages 22~32
A partial characteristics and pathogenicity of Aeromonas salmonicida strain isolated from diseased cultured eel were studied. On the biochemicial characteristics of the isolate strain was classified into atypical Aeromonas salmonicida : the characteristics of the isolate strain differed from those of the subspecies of Achromogenes, masoucida and salmonicida. It strain was named atypical Aeromonas salmonicida EL-1 and it grew at optimal pH 7.5 and l% Nacl. In the pathogenicity test, at one to two days post infection, the motality of artificially infected eels with
cfu/fish group was 100%, and at three days pos-infection, in the
/cfu /fish infected group, the epizootic haemorrhagic ulcer was developed, and haemorragic red sports were formed around abdomen and fins and its died (40%). Total cell protein peptide bands of the A. salmonicida EL-1 were presented betweeon 11.8~102 Kd in molecular weight by the electrophoretic analysis and appeared 28 bands in all. Drug sensitivity of atypical A. salmonicida EL-1 strain was sensitivity to chlorampenicol, gentamicin, kanamycin, streptomycin and sulfamethoxazole /trimethoprim and intermidiate to ampiclin and neomycin resistant to cephalotin, erythromycin, lincomycin and tetracycline.
Internal parasites of cats in Iri and its vicinity
Korean Journal of Veterinary Service, volume 18, issue 1, 1995, Pages 33~40
As a series of basic study for the prevention of zoonotic parasites, fecal samples and internal organs of cats in Iri and its vicinity were examined for helminth and their ova or protozoan oocysts from November 1994 to March 1995. The results obtained were summarized as follows； Out of the 133 samples, 101(75.9%) were positive and 135(101.5%) were cumulative positive for parasites. The following were identified in the samples and positive numbers of each species detected were ; Toxocura cari, 51；Isospora spp., 27；Spirometra erinacei, 26；Tasnka taentaeformis, 24；Diphyllobothrium latum, 4；and Capillaria spp., 3, respectively. In analyzing the state of infection, 64.9%(61 heads) of all the cats inspected had a single infection, while the rest(excluding the 32 uninfected cats) had mixed infections : 27.6%(26 heads), 6.4%(6 heads) and 1.1%(1 heads) had double, triple, quadruple Infections, respectively. From these results, it can be concluded that since the helminth, zoonotic parasites, in Korean autochthonal cats cause not only various disorders, but also can be very harmful to human beings, they are considered to be of great significance to public health.
Investigation on Bacillus anthracis isolated from Kyong-Ju
Korean Journal of Veterinary Service, volume 18, issue 1, 1995, Pages 41~56
The present study was conducted to investigate results of B. anthracis isolated from Anthrax in the Kyong-Ju of Feb. 12. 1994. 1. In biochemical feature, B. anthracis was a gram-positive rod, non-motility, sporulation, capsulation. It was positive in gelatinase, starch hydrolysis, glucose. But negative in urease, arabinose, mannitol, xylose. 2. B. anthracis grew well on B4 Br A TSA after incubation for 24 hours. The organisim grew well on BA, Br. A, NA, TSA after incubation for 72 hours. The media grew well on Br A instead of BA. 3. On 5% blood agar by laboratory animal,
-hemolysis was produced from 36 hours to 48 hours incubation. There was perfect
-hemolysis after incubation for 48 hours. On the other side
-hemolysis was begun on 5% goat blood agar after incubation for 60 hours. 4. In the test of antimicrobial susceptibility, B. anthracis was very sensitive to AM, CF, TE, ENR, GM, AN, DFX, S, P, TYLO, N, KM, C, E, Lins＋Sp, NN, CC, CFP, CB were sensitive one by one. B. anthracis was no-sensitive to L, XNL, TIA, CL, SXT 5. B. anthracis had never sensitivity to direct inoculation of rat and chicken, after subcutanous inj. It was very sensitive to mouse and goat, hamster, guinea pig, rabbit had a sensibility one by one. 6. The dead laboratory animal which had been inoculated with B. anthracis preserved at
incubation, B. anthracis didn't cultivate on non-dissected animal after 80 hours but cultivate on dissected animal after 360 hours. 7. The rapidly death could cause high concentration, died from 420 after S. C. 8. The blood smeared samples of hamster from inoculation with B. anthracis, spore germinated In 37
after 5 hours, in
after 6 hours, in room temperature after 9 hours, in
after 10 hours. 9. B, anthracis inoculated to laboratory animal after SC or PO. Mice and rats feces didn't cultivated with B. anthracis after SC, but did cultivated with B. anthracis after PO. 10. In the test of disinfectant, B. anthracis was high effective to
, formalin, effect phenol, cresol, but non-effect NaOH, ethanol.
Report on The Incidence of rabies in Kangwon-do
Korean Journal of Veterinary Service, volume 18, issue 1, 1995, Pages 57~71
During the period of 2 years from 1993 to 1994, epidemiological investigation were carried out each time the outbreak of rabies suspected cases were informed and all specimens were transported to the Kangwon-do Veterinary Service Lab. At the Lab., autopsy and laboratory examinations were conducted as well. The results obtained as follows 1. The dogs and cattles were confirmed to be infected with rabies virus by routine histopathological findings, indirect flulrescent antibody technique, and mouth inoculation test. 2. The total numbers of rabies occured in dogs and cattles were 9, 5 heads, respectively. The regional distribution of total of 14 heads were 9 heads in Chulwon, 2 heads in Hwachun, 1 head Yangku, 2 heads in Inje and the highest number of outbreaks were orrured in Chulwon. 3. Most of dogs showed furious type and dumb type found in only one dog. 4. Cattles showed the symtoms of uneasiness feeling, excitement, disturbance howling, the change of voice, sexual accelaration, foreign body swatting and attacked to human and ani-mal and found to be died after two or four days. 5. In the seasonal outbreaks of rabies, 8 heads of the highest incidence were occured in win-ter followed by 4 heads in autumn, 1 head in spring and 1 head in summer. 6. The first outbreaks of rabies was reported in Chulwon and then transmitted into Hwachun, Yangku and Inje in turn. 7 The infectious source was supposed to be wild animals such as laccon dog, badger etc. living around the D. M. Z.
