Antibiotic susceptibility of microorganisms isolated from Pneumonic lungs of slaughtered pig in northern Chungnam area

A total of 315 microorgainisms were isolated from 256 pneumonic lung samples of pig in abattoirs of northern Chungnam area during February to November 1994, and Identified 97 strains as Pusteurella multocida, 89 strains as Staphylococcus spp, 54 strains as Streptococcus spp, 22 strains as Mycoplasma spp, 21 strains as Escherichia coli, 18 strains as Haemophilus parsuis, 11 strains as Corymebacteroi, pyogenes, and 3 strains as Acrinobacillus spp by Gram's and Dienes stain, and biological properties test Involved API system. After that, they were examined anti biotic susceptibility for ampicillin(AM), cephalothin(CF), chloramphenicol(CP), erythromycin(EM), kanamycin(KM), gentamicin(GM), neomycin(NM), penicillin(PC), streptomycin(SM), tetracycline(TE), tiamulin(TIA), tylosin(TYL), methicillin(DP), colistin(CL) and trimet hoprim(SXT). In antibiotics susceptibility test, 293 isolates except Mycoplasma spp 22 strain were highly susceptible to DF(79.2%) and AM(76.2%), but resistant to PC(14.0%), NM(19.5%) and KM (23.2%) The multiple drug resistant patterns were noted in most isolates, whereas only 7 isolates resistant to single drugs.
Survey on Pneumonia of Slaughter Pigs in Youngnam

Lungs from 109 slaughter pigs with gross lesions indicating enzootic Pneumonia of pigs(EPP) and 16 grossly normal lungs, all originating from seven different herds, were subjected to microbiological examinations. The microbiological studies were included both bacterial and mycoplasmal culture. From lungs of 125 slaughter pigs, 87.2% pigs were pneumonia lesions alone or complexly Mycoplasma spp., pasteurella multocidu(p. multocida), Streptococcus spp., and Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniue(A. pleuropneumoniae) were detected in 39.4%, 42.2%, 13.8%, and 3.7% of the pneumonic lungs, respectively. P. multocida was the most frequently isolated organism in pneumonic lungs. Mycoplasmas not isolated organism in 33.9% the pneumonic lungs even If [here are gross lessions mycoplasmas. The amounts of pneumonia in lungs with Mycoplasma spp. alone, a concurrence of Mycoplasma spp. and P. multocida, p. multocida alone, a concurrence of P. multocida and A. pleuropneumoniae, and a concurrence of Mycoplasma spp. and A pleurdpneumoniae were 10.1%, 22.7%, 18.7%, 25%, and 30%, respectively These findings indicated that p. multocida might be involved in the pathogenesis of pneumonia in slaughter pigs. Mycoplasma spp. was also, in this study, associated with higher frequency of pneumonia. The frequency of pigs snout lesion grade 0∼5 inclusive were 27.2%, 28%, 19.2%, 16%, 6.4%, and 3.2% from 125 slaughter pigs. 32(25.6%) pigs were positive and 13~30% in the pigs from seven herds were found to be infected with atrophic rhintis (AR). A total of 46 P. multocida strains In pneumonic lungs were further characterized by capsular serotyping and testing for production of dermonecrotic toxin. 42(91.3%) of strains were capsular A and 4(8.7%) were type D. Out of the type A and type D strains, 86% and 75% were toxigenic, respectively.
Studies on the pathogenic Escherichia coli isolated from piglets with diarrhea in Chonnam

Porcine E coli infection is a disease caused by Enterotoxin produced by Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli(ETEC). Enteric colibacillosis has become an economically important disease in pigs as a result of increasing intensification of farrowing management. The present study undertaken to obtain the antibiotic sensitivity and distribution of serogroups and pili producibility test of ETEC from E. coli isolates in Chonnam. The results obtained were as follows. 1. A total of 71 isolates identified as E, coli employing IMViC system from rectal specimens of 54 piglets with diarrhea. 2. In antibiotic sensitivity test, isolates showed high sensitivity to AN, CM, Fox, GM, but resistance to EM, NA TC. 3. The distribution of 25 Isolates of serogroups were 0141:K85(11.3%), 08:K87(8.5%), 064:K (5.6%), 0138:K8l (4.2%), 0139 :K82(2.8%), 0157:K88ac(1.4%) and 0149:K9l (1.4%). 4. MRHA of guinea pig erythrocytes was detected in 8 out of 25OK serotypes and 9 out of 46 unidentified serotypes. MRHA titers of serotypes showed from 64 to 128 in 0141: K85, 2 in 0138:K8l and no titers in 0139:K82. 5. The production of heat labile enterotoxin of ETEC was detect 39 out of 52 isolates showed

Control of Parturition Time on Pig;IV. Effect of ATP on Uterine Smooth Muscle Motility

The effcets of adenosine 5'-triphosphate(ATP) were investigated on the uterine smooth muscle motility in the pig. The results were summarized as follows: 1. The effects of the porcine uterine smooth muscle and the contractile responses increased between the concentration of ATP
M with a dose-dependent manner. 2. The contractile response induced by ATP(
M) was not blocked by pretreatment with cholinergic receptor blocker, atropine (

M). From these results, it was conclued that the effects of ATP were the contraction mediated by purinergic receptor in uterine smooth muscle of pig.
A study on determination of carbadox and olaquindox in swine tissues by matrix solid Phase disperse method"

This study was carried out to determination of carbadox and olaquindox residues in swine tissues by MSPD(matrix solid phase disperse)method. The results obtained were as follows ; 1. Optimal wavelengths of UV for carbadox and olaquindox were 310 and 370nm, respectively 2. Ethyl acetate-Acetonitrile(8:2) was found to be adequate as extractant in this method. 3. The average overall recovery of carbadox at the 0.01, 0.05, and 1.0PPM spike levels was 89. 2% and that of olaquindox was 89.9%, and the detection limits were 0.5ng for carbadox and olaquindox.
Studies on the constituents of Korean honey harvested seasonally in Chonbuk area

This study was to investigate the properties such as amounts of moisture, inverted sugar, cane sugar and 5-(hydroxymethyl)-2-furfural (HMF) in feeding-honey(n=45) and wild-honey (n=3) harvested in Chonbuk area from April to November 1995. The results obtained were summarized as follows ; The average percentages of moisture in both feeding- and wild-honey was 20.2%(range, 17.5~23.1) and 20.7%(19.4~22.2). And those of inverted sugar/cane sugar in both honeies were 64.4%(55.8~69.3)/6.8%(1.0~l5.7) and 68.9%(68.5~69.8)/3.1%(2.5~3.7), in seasonal analysis those were 65.9%/5.3% in spring, 65.7%/6.6% in summer, 62.1%/8.0% in autumn, respectively. On the other hand, the average amounts of HMF in both honeies were 44.86mg/kg(22.6~68.6) and 7.0mg/kg(6.2~7.6), its average difference between both honeies were about 37.86mg/kg regardless of region and season.
Hematological test and treatment of cattle infected with theileriosis in Cheju area

The present study was conducted to investigate for the hematological test and treatment effect of cattle infected with theileriosis in Cheju area. The results were summarized as fellows 1. Symptom of cattle infected with theileriosis were lose of appetite, depression, jaundise, anemia and fever. 2. A postmortem sing of cattle infected with theileriosis were not observed exept for jaundise of subcutaneous, expansion of gallbladder. 3. In the hematological test results of cattle infected with theileriosis supposed lese then killed so far as RBC number of 1, 000, 000/mm and if treated with RBC number of 2, 000, 000/mm cattle was able to recovery 4. In the treatment of cattle infected with theileriosis recovered after 90 days of treatment and the precaution against a shock of blood transfusion were able to the control of injection time and blood qantity.
