Studies on outbreak of bovine brucellosis in Kyunggi province;I. The epidemiological characters of brucella-reactor cattle and properitis of isolated Brucella abortus
Korean Journal of Veterinary Service, volume 19, issue 3, 1996, Pages 189~198
The survey was performed to provied details about the pattern of bovine brucellosis occurred in Kyunggi province area. The results obtained through the investigations were summarized as follows. Five hundred seventy - three cattle of bovine brucella reactor were occurred in 14 districts among 31 districts in Kyunggi province in 1989-1995. Among them, 370 cattle(64.5% ) were bred in Eastern area(Ichon, Yeju, Kwangju) and 153 cattle(26.7% ) in Southern area(Yongin, Ansung, Peungtack) And the number of farms occurred by bovine brucellosis was 110 ones. When we investigated the occurrance frequency for the 110 farms, the ratio of farms which was brocken out just one time was 67.3a and more than twice was 32.7%. In 573 cattle, 271 cattle were reoccurred in farms which had broken out the bovine brucellosis more than one time. And this survey said the interval of reoccurrance was like this ; within a month 50.2%, within two month 19.2%, within four month 7.4%, within six month 7.4%, within an year 15.1%, within 2 year 7.0%. Brucella abortus was isolated from 38 cattle of the 61 ones cattles, and in type all isolated belong to biotype 1.
Histopathological changes of small intestine of cats infected with helminth
Korean Journal of Veterinary Service, volume 19, issue 3, 1996, Pages 199~205
Helminth and their ova or protozoan oocysts from fecal samples of cats in Chonju and Daejon were examined from December 1995 to January 1996. Out of the 43 samples, 41(95.35%) were positive and 66(153.49%) were cumulative positive for parasite infection. The identified parasites were summerized as follows; Worms of Toxocara cati(62.79%), Taenia taeniformis(48.88%), Spirometra sp(23.25%) and Diphyllobothrium latum (6.97%), eggs of Clonorchis sinensis(2.32%), Ancylostoma tubaeformae(2.32%) and Capillaria sp(4.65%), oocyst of Isospora (2.32%) sp. In haevy infected intestine, mast cells(38 cells/10 villi) were detected in villi and goblet cells(131 cells/
) were severely increased in mucosa. Epithelium of intestine was partially deteched B. The end of villi were necrosed and hyperaemia was widely recognized in lamina propria. T taeniaeformis have not the neck, but have 2 layed hooks(anterior : 19, posterior : 19, total : 38).
A sere-epidemiological survey on Ibaraki disease in western area of Kyunggi province
Korean Journal of Veterinary Service, volume 19, issue 3, 1996, Pages 207~211
To investigate the serum neutralizing antibodies against Ibaraki disease virus in the western area of Kyunggi province, a sero-epidemiological survey was done from August 1995 to March 1996. The results obtained are summarized as follows : 1. An overall prevalence of the neutralizing antibodies agaist Ibaraki virus was as high as 68.6% (218 positive reactors amomg 318 heads of dairy cattle). 2. It showed the regional differences with 60.5
(46/76) in Koyang, 75.2% (100/133) in Paju and 66.1% (72/109) in Kimpo. 3. It also appeared with a seasonal difference showing 74.4% of prevalence with the mean titer higher than 60 during the mosquito season (from August to November) and 58.6% of prevalence with the mean titer 22 after the mosquito season to March. 4. Any cross reactions between Ibaraki and bluetongue viruses were not detected in the ELISA and AGID tests.
Isolation of Enterobacteriaceae from bile, urine and intestine in slaughtered pigs and its susceptibility to antibiotics
Korean Journal of Veterinary Service, volume 19, issue 3, 1996, Pages 213~219
Seventy-nine strains of Enterobacteriaceae isolated from 117 slaughtered pigs (bile, urine, small intestine, cecum and rectum) in 1995 were examined for biotypes and susceptibility to 19 antibiotics with MicroScan WalkAway 40/96. The obtained results were as follows : 1. Among the twenty-two species isolated from the samples, Proteus mirabilis, E. coli and Enterobacter cloacae were commonly encountered. 2. The distribution frequency of isolates from cecum, small intestine, rectum, bile, and urine was 31(38.8%), 25(31.3%), 18(22.8%), 3(3.7% ), and 2(2.5% ), respectively. 3. A majority of isolates were sensitive to 16 antibiotics, singly or in combination. And these isolates were commonly susceptible to various antibiotics such as Cp, Ts, Azt, Caz, To, Gm, Cfz, Crm, Am and Cfx, in order. Whereas the Salmonella spp was susceptible to Cf, Ti and Pi, and Proteus mirabilis to Imp, Tim, Cft and Cz. Meanwhile, no effect was found to Cf, Ak and Cax. 4. Among the antibiotic resistant strains, a total of 17 reistant patterns was noted End of these Ak Tim 45(57.0%), Ak Am Cf Cfx Cfz Tim 8(10.1%) and Ak Ti Tim 6(7.6% ) were frequently encountered.
Epidemiological studies on infectious bursal disaese of chickens in southern area of kangwon province
Korean Journal of Veterinary Service, volume 19, issue 3, 1996, Pages 221~226
IBD's antibody level and morphological change of immune organ was examined in chicken. The results were as follows ; 1. Seventy percent at 42 day and 40% at 45 day of age chickens were reacted positively by the agar gel immunodiffusion test and 42 day and 45 day of age chickens indicated 1859, 1425 by the ELISA test, respectively. 2. In 2 and 5 day young broiler chickens, the level of maternal antibody was not proper. B/B ratio showed low level, but S/B ratio and BS were normal. 3. In layer, 100% of 8 and 86 day of age chicken and 70% at 40 day of age chicken had antibody aganist IBDV. The level of antibody was high as 2293 and 3336 in 8 and 86 day of age chicken, while was low as 1186 in 40 day of age chicken. B/B ratio showed low level and S/B ratio high level, but BS was normal.
Pathologic changes on Renal Lesions in Sows
Korean Journal of Veterinary Service, volume 19, issue 3, 1996, Pages 227~237
In order to investigate the prevalence and pattern of renal lesions in sows, 250 kidneys collected from abattoir were examined grossly and histopathologically. The prevalence of renal lesions in sows was 46.8% (l17/250). Main gross findings were consisted of congestion and/or petechiation (21.6%), cortical enlargement (15.2%), renal cysts (6.0%), abscessation (4.4%), and infarction (1.5%). Principle microscopic lesions were composed of interstitial nephritis (25.6% ), glomerulosclerosis (13.6%), glomerular thrombosis (3.6%), amyloidosis (2.0%) and glomerulosclerosis (2.0%) Sixty four kidneys with interstitial nephritis was classified by 46 chronic and 18 acute cases. Among 34 kidneys with glomerulonephritis, there were divided into 18 membranous type, 9 proliferative type and 7 membranoproliferative type. For these results, it was confirmed that sows raised in Kwangju and Chonnam areas had been affected by a variety of pathological renal lesions.
