Application of Area Based Matching for the Automation of Interior Orientation

Automation of observation and positioning of fiducial marks is made possible with the application of image matching technique, developed through the cooperative research effort of computer vision and digital photogrammetry. The major problem in such automation effort is to minimize the computing time and to increase the positional accuracy. Except for scanning and ground control surveying, the interior orientation process was automated in this study, through the development of an algorithm which applies the image matching and image processing techniques. The developed system was applied to close-range photogrammetry and the analysis of the results showed 54% improvement in processing time. For fiducial mark observation during interior orientation, the Laplacian of Gaussian transformation and the Hough transformation were applied to determine the accurate position of the center point, and the correlation matching and the least squares matching method were then applied to improve the accuracy of automated observation of fiducial marks. Image pyramid concept was applied to reduce the computing time of automated positioning of fiducial mark.
Variations of Geomagnetic Field in Korea

This paper describes the variations of geomagnetic field by analyzing the geomagnetic observation data, which spanned the period from 1918 through 1944 and the global geomagnetic model in Korea. Geomagnetic data observed at Incheon in the period of 1918~1944 and global geomagnetic model (IGRF-95) were obtained from the World Geomagnetic Data Center. In this study, the variations of geomagnetic declination is estimated as
from 1918 to 2000 and the variation rate is given as the nearest 1'20"/yr. The total variation of inclination is about 38' for 82 years and the variation rate is estimated as the nearest 27"/yr."/yr.;/yr.

The information & Communication industry including internet is rapidly developing and expanding, which integrates our living space and provides diversity. Internet provides users with an variety of real-time information through networking. Also the functions and services of Geographic Information Systems are on a changing trend providing services for various organizations and users dispersed in different networks. It is necessary to understand that GIS is available not only on a desktop and server, but in any place where the network is connected using the web. Recently, Internet GIS for the search and subscription of spatial informations through the internet is receiving an active research field. So. this study aims to apply the Gas Disaster Management to the internet and develop the internet GIS techniques which make an effective utilization of GIS functions using MapObjects IMS, SDE, and Oracle.
Extraction of the hydrologic terrain factor in n watershed using GRID analysis technology of GSIS

Hydrologic parameters vary spatially and require interpretation of maps which often vary in scale and accuracy. Data requirements can be extensive, and acquisition and manipulation of the data are time-consuming. The purpose of this study is to develop Hydrologic Terrain Factor Extract System (HTFES) using Geo-Spatial Information System(GSIS). The HTFES is a package of spatial data and menu-driven programs that allows user-interactive determination of hydrologic parameters. The program employs Arc/Info, a commercial Geo-Spatial Information System. Spatial analysis techniques were employed to define watershed outlets and to determine important hydrologic parameters. The system delineates drainage boundaries, flow paths, average watershed slope and etc. using relevant digital elevation data.
Update and Revision of Digital Map in Digital Photogrammetric Workstation

Recently, the digital map of national basemap has been made through NGIS(National Geographic Information System) project in Korea. The digital map should have to be corrected or updated to cope with the changes in topography in future. For that, the efficient method correspond with digital map should be presented. Digital photogrammetric system has been considered as an efficient method for digital mapping because it provides the results in digital form, but the system if not fully tested because the commercial system is in early stage. This study aims to present the way to correct or update digital map using the digital photogrammetric system. Digital mapping in the environment of digitalphotogrammetric system was executed and the results were analyzed and compared with those from analytical plotter.
A Study on Kinematic Positioning by GPS Platformed on Moving Vehicle

Mobile Mapping System can be defined as vehicle mapping system which collects rapidly spatial data by integrated Gps/digital imaging system. Kinematic positioning by GPS is essential technology of Mobile Mapping System. This paper aims at analysing the accuracy and efficiency of kinematic positioning by GPS platformed on moving vehicle. For the purpose, roads were surveyed by vehicle/kinematic GPS. The results show that vehicle/kinematic GPS can measure spatial position faster, and still maintain a reasonable accuracy. But inertial navigation system and GPS should be integrated to compute continuous vehicle track and overcome gaps by blocked satellite signals for the more accurate positioning.
Application of the Internet GIS on Rice Pest Information

This paper describe the interpretation of population density of rice pest in 1998 all over the country using GIS technique and the development of Internet GIS for sharing and analyzing information through Internee. Due to the widespread availability of computer network, GIS solution is available to users on your Internet via the web. Through Internet Rice Pest Information System developed visually the related information of rice pest all over the country and also interactive communication with the web interface concerning the existing system which provides simply static map, texts and numerical statement on the internet, the advantages of developed system are visually information, dynamic map, easy user interface and interactive map through the internet. This system provide more effective method of rice pest data to client.
Development of Interface for the Agricultural Non-point Source Model Geo-Spatial Information System

Non-point source pollution poses a serious threat to river. therefore non-point pollution model was developed. This non-point pollution model requires detailed spatial data for accurate predictions Geo-spatial Information System(GSIS) is well suited to those needs. The parameters for these models provided by the GSIS were slope, slope shape, field slope length and SCS run off curve number. Hence, this study presents an application of GSIS processing tools for AGNPS model developed by the ARS(Agricultural Research Service) in cooperation with the MPCA(Minnesota Pollution Control Agency) and has developed interface that construct the input data of ASCII type in the AGNPS model using GSIS.
Determination of New Azimuth on the Suwon Geodetic Datum by GPS Surveying and Its Accuracy Analysis

Mark point(Donghaksan) of Korean geodetic datum in Suwon could not be intervisible because of the development of the surroundings, so we were in a situation that we should establish new mark point and decide azimuth of the new mark point. Getting out of the intervisibility between control stations, refraction error and effect of illumination in urban area, our research team decided new azimuth of Suwon Geodetic Datum by GPS surveying for accuracy and economical efficiency. First we corrected and supplemented the specification on the decision of azimuth in accordance with our situation based on the study of foreign studies by using GPS, and we determined and analyzed the accuracy of the new azimuth through organizing and observing the GPS network.
A Change Detection of Western Coastal Land-Use using Landsat TM Images

Coastal development and reclamation work make environment of shore destroy, such as rapid change of land use and destruction of wet-land and ocean ecosystem. Therefore new technique to detect change have been needed. This study designed new change detection method and applied to study area. The change detection image and quantitative change area by each classes are calculated. Also, this study can use the basic idea-determination data for coastal development and city plan as the sense of sight by changed images that changed from any land-cover to any land-cover between two dates.
Development of the Building Boundary Detection for Building DEM Generation

It is estimated that, in the twenty-first century, 70％ of global citizens will live in urban areas. This accelerated urbanization will require a greater need for the building DEM and orthoimagery along with Geographic Information System for urban management. The building DEM requires the detection of outlines showing building shapes. To do this, automatic and semiautomatic building extractions are usually used. However, in cases where automatic extraction is performed directly from the aerial images, accurate building outline extraction is very difficult because of shadow, roof color, and neighboring trees making it hard to discern building roofs. To overcome this problem semiautomatic building extraction was suggested in this paper. When a roof texture was homogeneous, building outline detection was performed by mouse-clicking on a part of the roof. To construct the building outlines when the texture was not homogeneous, a computer program was developed to search out corner points by clicking spots near corner points. The building DEM was generated by taking into account building outlines and heights calculated by image matching.
