Journal of the Korean Society of Surveying, Geodesy, Photogrammetry and Cartography, volume 18, issue 2, 2000, Pages 101~110
This study focuses on examination of the availability and effectiveness about application of the differential GPS methods for navigation and acquisition of the geo-spatial information. For this, the algorithms related to a navigation solution and differential GPS were implemented in MATLAB code, a number of software simulations on test model were carried out to assess its performance, comparing the results with those obtained from the commercial software. Expecially, the results coming from tracking test on test model of the OO's WADGPS which is the commercial real-time satellite-based augmentation system via geostationary satellite (GEOs), which has been investigated with those from the above GPS methods. And also, the accuracy of absolute positioning by Navigation solution and WADGPS before and after SA-off has been compared. The above results show that DGPS methods are very reliable and efficient methods for acquisition of the geo-spatial information.
Development of an Application System for Efficient Management of Underground Water Supply Facility - Pilot Study in Chonju City -
Journal of the Korean Society of Surveying, Geodesy, Photogrammetry and Cartography, volume 18, issue 2, 2000, Pages 111~120
Water, waste, electric and gas facilities are urban based facilities that needed in our life and are often located in underground. Therefore, underground facilities are more difficult to manage efficiently than ground facilities. It is needed to carry out survey/probe into underground facilities and to build database in order to prevent city-misfortunes being occurred because of negligent management and in order to minimize budget-waste and a traffic jam according to repetition of road excavation constructions. Also, the development of application system is required to manage efficiently underground facility. Chonju city has launched underground water supply facility computerizing project as a part of National Geographic Information System project until December 1998 and executed survey/probe into 402.89 km water supply that is 80 mm up inside central town area 39.6
. Also, chonju city built database into 537 km water supply that is 80 mm below based on water supply card without other survey/probe works. Also, existing work process each department is changed into GIS applied work process and underground water supply facility management system is developed by its work process basis. Water supply underground facility management system that is developed is composed of sub-system like base-map management, water supply inspect, water supply management and water supply inquiry, construction work management, administration management and map management. This research presents the procedure and method of underground water supply facility survey/probe and problem being occurred during survey/probe procedure and also show the functions of each sub-systems composing underground water supply facility management system.
A Base Study on the Accuracy Analysis of GPS Kinematic Surveying of the Long-Baseline According to the Ephmeris
Journal of the Korean Society of Surveying, Geodesy, Photogrammetry and Cartography, volume 18, issue 2, 2000, Pages 121~127
Kinematic GPS surveying which can obtain much 3D topographical information through short-time measurement is being utilized mainly in the short baseline less than a few kilometers. Because the decision of position for the long baseline depends on the static GPS surveying which needs long time measurement, the method for measuring the position of long baseline is needed. In this study, the accuracy of the baseline according to the baseline distance, ephemeris, and observation time by GPS surveying is analysed to confirm the application of kinematic GPS surveying for the long baseline. As the result of this, the acquisition of 3D topographical information by GPS surveying in a few minutes will be possible when PDOP is less than 4, and the fast precise ephemeris is used within 60 km. Also, the accuracy is similar to that of final precise ephemeris of IGS. If a lot of studies about the long baseline kinematic GPS surveying are processed, the acquisition of topographical information for various industry including land development will be obtained more efficiently.
A study on the Geoid of the GPS/Leveling and Geopotential Model
Journal of the Korean Society of Surveying, Geodesy, Photogrammetry and Cartography, volume 18, issue 2, 2000, Pages 129~134
To utilize the survey method using the geodetic satellite GPS, we tried to analysis the GPS/Leveling and the geopotential model of the 26 GPS observation points including 23 BM and 3 triangulation points with approximately 16-km interval selected from the Andong geographic map with a scale of 1:250,000. The average deviations of the geopotential model calculated from the results of analysis to the GPS/Leveling and the previously developed geopotential models(EGM96, OSU91A, and KGEOID), are 0.493 m, 0.277 m, and 0.195 m, respectively and RMS errors are
0.152 m, and
0.133 m. The general trend of geoid undulations, however, shows an increasing pattern to the NW-SE direction. It has been also reported that the geoid undulation related with topographic-highs and geoid-highs although very poor relationship is shown in this area.

An Implementation of Integrated System for Topographic and Cadastral Data
Journal of the Korean Society of Surveying, Geodesy, Photogrammetry and Cartography, volume 18, issue 2, 2000, Pages 143~155
With the increasing needs for the integrated use of topographic and cadastral data in order to build an efficient geo-spatial information system. it is urgently necessary to research into its solution. The intention of this study is to detect error types of data and to propose adjustment methods for solving the problems caused by integrating topographic and cadastral data. For this purpose a primary integrated data model is created to link attribute data(land management system) and graphic data within cadastral information in the first step. In next, a secondary integrated data model based on the improved method is formed to coincide the graphic data of cadastral map with that of topographic map. At the first, because a numerous error types md sources caused by separate management of graphic and attribute data are easily checked, it is possible to suggest an improved method to correct these errors using the primary integrated data model. In addition, the accuracy in position and area with coordinate transformation method based on multi-block adjustment is more efficient than rubber-sheeting method. As a result, the secondary integrated data model could be built by harmonizing cadastral map with topographic map using the improved solution.
A Study on the Cause Analysis of Viewscape Preference on Observers Using GSIS & ANN
Journal of the Korean Society of Surveying, Geodesy, Photogrammetry and Cartography, volume 18, issue 2, 2000, Pages 157~168
MDD(Mountainous District Development) has more available area than flatland come into solution for many urban problem arisen from the insufficiency of urban-purpose land and space. When develope the mountainous district, the development must be a development considered the viewscape. To efficiently accomplish the MDD viewscape was considered, firstly we have to know which viewscape element effect on many observers when they rate the viewscpe preference. As a basical study for MDD viewscape was considered, we used GSIS and ANN(Artificial Neural Network) in cause analysis of viewscape preference. Many observers firstly influenced by“height difference”that represent the difference between elevation of a mountainous and buildings, and secondly floor-area-ratio has influence on viewscape preference, thirdly many observer affected by building coverage among many viewscape elecments considered in this study.

Journal of the Korean Society of Surveying, Geodesy, Photogrammetry and Cartography, volume 18, issue 2, 2000, Pages 169~177
The modelling technique on the terrain of real-world in geo-spatial information system is a primary element for geo-information processing. This paper is designed to make use of TIN in geo-spatial information system and study the development and application of high-precision 3-D spatial analysis technique applied to terrain features. According to this research, MODEL 3 applied to breakline in mild slope/steep slope and MODEL 2 applied to peak in complex region show relatively low RMSE. This consequence proves that these two models have high precision in comparison with other models. This study also finds out optimal routines in the estimation method of slope grade and in the construction method of surface. N_T, LSP_T and LSQ_T in mild slope, N_T in steep slope, and LSQ_T in complex region turn out to be the optimal routines for high-precision 3-D spatial analysis.
A Study of Land Suitability Analysis by Integrating GSIS with Artificial Neural Networks
Journal of the Korean Society of Surveying, Geodesy, Photogrammetry and Cartography, volume 18, issue 2, 2000, Pages 179~189
This study is tried to organic combination in implementing the suitability analysis of urban landuse between GSIS and ANN(Artificial Neural Network). ANN has merit that can decide rationally connectivity weights among neural network nodes through procedure of learning. It is estimated to be possible that replacing the weight among factors needed in spatial analysis of the connectivity weight on neural network. This study is composed of two kinds of neural networks to be executed. First neural network was used in the suitability analysis of landuse and second one was oriented to analyze of optimum landuse pattern. These neural networks were learned with back-propagation algorithm using the steepest gradient which is embodied by C++ program and used sigmoid function as a active function. Analysis results show landuse suitability map and optimum landuse pattern of study area consisted of residental, commercial. industrial and green zone in present zoning system. Each result map was written by the Grid format of Arc/Info. Also, suitability area presented in the suitability map and optimum landuse pattern show distribution pattern consistent with theroretical concept or urban landuse plan in aspect of location and space structure.
Blunder Detection by Matching Strength Measurement in Digital Photogrammetry
Journal of the Korean Society of Surveying, Geodesy, Photogrammetry and Cartography, volume 18, issue 2, 2000, Pages 191~198
Digital photogrammetry in the implementation of GIS database plays an important role, with the demand for rapid data acquisition and quick updating. Here image matching represents a fundamental task of digital photogrammetry. No image matching algorithm provides a solution as complete as the one given by human vision which is reinforced by knowledge and intelligence capabilities. In this paper, if object space is smooth, we check the global similarity between a possible corresponding point pair and its neighbouring possible corresponding point pairs, detecting blunders; We define matching strength measurement. Besides this, we compute three-dimension coordinates of matching points by bundle adjustment method. Results of the test reveal that the proposed method can eliminate the incorrectly matched pairs efficiently and the accuracy of three-dimension coordinates of matching points come within an allowable error.
Application of GSIS Technique for Direct Runoff Estimation
Journal of the Korean Society of Surveying, Geodesy, Photogrammetry and Cartography, volume 18, issue 2, 2000, Pages 199~209
Recently, GSIS is introduced in the various fields. Especially in hydrology, the useful of GSIS is emphasized to analyze parameters, which are necessary for the analysis of watershed. In this paper, to estimate the direct runoff volume, I used the SCS-CN method which was useful to calculate direct runoff volume in a watershed that was not observed. But because SCS-CN method must treat a great number of spatial data, if we use the GSIS, we can treat numbers of the data easily. GSIS databases is constructed by using the data which is related to soil type, landuse. And runoff curve number was estimated by means of these databases in the study area. Also, the area of covered each subbasin rainfall gauge station was estimated by thiessen polygon network technique. The direct runoff volume was calculated by these subbasin area to the rainfall gauge station. I knew, from this study, that using GSIS, I can calculate parameters needed in direct runoff volume analysis, fast, exactly.

Journal of the Korean Society of Surveying, Geodesy, Photogrammetry and Cartography, volume 18, issue 2, 2000, Pages 211~219
In the 21th century, on the level of the limit of national resources, the national land development, the development using the marine resource and the marine space, the international diplomacy and the national security, the island development will be more vitalized. Therefore, considering the various kinds of information becomes diverse and massive quantitatively, it is necessary that we develop an effective system which not only operates the information, but also gives a function of various display using the computer graphic and the multimedia. On this point of view, this study focused on thesuggestion of the application system model which is necessary for an efficient management, analysis and development of our country's island. That is, unlike the previous information system, the IIMS(Island Information Management System) model was developed by the active use of the Geo-Spatial Information System which improves the efficiency of the work by managing the spatial information and the attribute information simultaneously, and objectively induces the decision of the opinion and the policy for the management and the development of the island.
