A Study on the Optimum Amount of Waste Foundry Sand and Flyash in Concrete

The most of waste foundry sands(WFS) have been discarded. It is very urgent for our country to make a study on recycling of WFS. The one of recycling method of WFS is using them as fine aggregate for concrete. This study provided the optimum amount of WFS and flyash when WFS and flyash were used together in concrete. The concrete made with 60% WFS fine aggregate replacement showed higher compressive strength, splitting tensile strength and modulus of elasticity than normal concrete. In the case that the flyash and WFS are replaced together, the compressive strength and splitting tensile strength were improved at flyash replacement ratio
and WFS replacement ratio
. The increase of WFS and flyash replacement led lower air content. While the increase of WFS replacement led lower slump, the increase of flyash replacement led higher slump.
A Study on the Surface Air-Void Reduction of High Performance Concrete

In this study, reduction methods of surface air void were examined for high performance concrete having high viscosity. The effects of assumed influencing factors such as form types, form-coating materials, tamping equipments and methods were examined based on the tests on mock-up specimens made of high performance concrete. The test results can be summarized as follows: As for form types, the most favorable results were obtained when coated plywood form was used with panel-shape tamping equipments at the contact region with concrete, the second and the third being the water/air-permeable sheets and steel with coated plywood, respectively. As for tamping equipments, a vibrator with 6.5cm diameter was most effective. Finally, the shorter the tamping intervals, the better the reduction effect of surface air void. CWS I method developed to overcome the problems of frequent occurrence in the application of existing downward construction methods has demonstrated excellent efficiency. However, in the case of using slurry wall instead of SCW or CIP as a retaining wall, the improvements in connecting steel beams with the wall were demanded. Therefore, the study of CWS II method was carried out in order to accomplish the CWS I method reflecting its strong points and to ensure the settlement of a steel beam and to induce the diaphragm effect of a slab while reducing the degree of difficulty and the term of works and the cost of construction. In this paper, the concept and features of CWS II method as well as the progress of execution was discussed by comparing with existing methods.
An Empirical Approach Study on Construction Cost Estimation in Public Work Projects

Looking at current construction costs estimations of publicly declared public works, there are many instances where estimation criteria are ambiguous and doesn`t imply the reality. Up to date, estimation criteria for calculating construction cost estimations are simply by unit area multiplication and stochastic construction cost estimation. However, possibility of making errors are high due to using uniform data that excludes each public work`s specifications and environmental conditions. Further, on the aspect of cost management, there is certain limitation in the efficiency of cost management in order-placing stage and commencing-work stage; while efficient cost management and reduction of expenses are highly possible during initial stages of the project. In this respect, the paper adopts positive approach with regards to construction cost estimations of public works and draws common elements from calculation tables of the construction cost estimations from 3 completed domestic construction works; after which, the paper analyzes whether business exposition, construction guide and publicly-declared estimated construction costs that the orderer issued are calculated economically and properly; deducing problems in the process, the paper seeks to recommend rational calculation method on this.
A Study about the Safety Consciousness of Foreign Labors on Construction

The Korean society, which faces a new issue of foreign labores, is actively conducing safety consciousness of foreign labors. Foreign labors of domestic industry reached about 360,000 recently. it has become the essential resources to fill up insufficient labor in construction industry. Although most foreign labors participate in safety education well and understand its object, some foreign labors have negative recognition of it. Some foreign labors well comprehend the importance of safety facilities but think those unnecessary. Based on these results, this research pointed out the need to review training manuals, the development of educational programs, improvement of educational facilities to improve safety education of construction, and finally to discussed these issues.
A Study on the Sulfate Attack Resistance of Concrete Using EAF Slag as Fine Aggregate

The purpose of this study is to investigate the sulfate attack resistance of concrete using the EAF(electric arc furnace) Slag as fine aggregate. In order to figure out the effects of magnesium sulfate solution on the durability of concrete using the EAF Slag as fine aggregate, the experiments for the immerging test in the 10% magnesium sulfate solution was executed by selecting factors such as aging processes, replacement ratio(0, 10, 20, 30, 50%), and duration of immerging. The specimens were made with various EAF slag replacements for fine aggregates and with W/C ratio fixed 0.45. compressive strength and S.D.F(Sulfate Deterioration Factor), weight change, and SEM(Scanning Electron Microscope) were tested. From the test results, EAF slag aggregate treated with accelerated aging is better than treated with air aging. The compressive strength and resistance to the sulfate attack is slightly improved with an increase in the EAF slag aggregate treated with accelerated aging replacement for aggregate.
A Case Study on Reason Analysis for Schedule Delay of Apartment House

A study was performed the analysis for the schedule delay of the public housing. To perform this study, the first study existing research literature on the cause of the schedule delay was considered. The based on existing study, this study selected the cause of schedule delay. For check of the schedule delay, this study was compared the monthly schedule and the work diary. Survey was conducted for using the selected cause of schedule delay. And the importance was calculated for using the AHP method. In a case site, the cause of the schedule delay was analyzed. The last, the delay cause was presented the map of cause of effect the based on the delay cause of a case site.
Experimental Study on Wall Transmission Loss of Electric wave for the RTLS Application of Building Construction Project

Although the concept of RTLS is very unfamiliar to construction industry, recently it is popular in other industry, such as logistics, ship building, mobile telecommunication based on state-of-the-art information technology. Effective resource management using cutting-edge information technology makes it possible to succeed a project with saving the time and cost. And effective information management in construction project can be achieved by the new technologies such as RFID, WEB-based internet, DB technology, real-time monitoring technology, etc. This paper suggest the characteristics and applicability of the international standard electric waves to be used for the real-time locating system (RTLS) on the viewpoint of transmission loss in construction field to monitor and manage resources of construction project effectively The two types of electric waves based on the international standard is to be suggested after surveying the as-is technology in the related industries and then is analyzed to find out the characteristics of those by the concept of the electric wave transition loss in the several construction situations. Two main electric waves, the 2.4GHz and the 433MHz technologies as the international standard is researched on the applicability to the indoor environment of construction site.
The Roofing System of High wind-Resistant Performance using Thermoplastic polyolefin and Electromagnetic Induction Technology

Strong winds according to global warming cause the increase of the frequency and the repair cost of damaged roofs. In the United States, Factory Mutual Insurance Company(FMIC) promotes the roofing design that resists heavy wind-load, as the means of strict criteria. This fact reveals that more durable roofing system will be also required in Korea. Therefore, this study aims at developing such a system with high wind-resistance performance using Thermoplastic polyolefin(TPO) and Electromagnetic induction technology(EIT) than the previous systems. The system presented in this study consists of 4 main devices as follow; 1) a disc to fix sheets for TPO & EIT method, which can conduct structural design according to site condition, such as region, building height, and wind load. 2) a nail to have about 30% stronger lifting-up capacity than that of the previous nail. 3) a disc to fix sheets, which has triangle protuberance not to damage sheets in the repeatable wind load, and 4) a electromagnetic induction device to combine a disc and a sheet by heating uniformly and quickly adhesive agent on the disc. The results of mock-up test illustrate that the system provides wind-resistant performance to achieve satisfactorily the structural design criteria of FMIC. In addition, the system is faster, chipper, and easier than the existing system, and is expected that this roofing system can be applied to the rehabilitations of an existing as well as a new building.
A Correlation Analysis between the Change of Managerial Environment and the Business Performance of Domestic Construction Firms

Because of its unique characteristics, the construction industry tends to be affected by economic environment more than any other industries. The domestic construction industry was forced to change its management pattern and system when it went through the foreign currency crisis, and since then, the construction industry has been growing in terms of quality over last 10 years, breaking from the quantitative performance-oriented growth in the past. The study was intended to integrate the financial data of the companies during the period before and after the foreign currency crisis so as to analyze the effect of environmental changes on management performance of the companies. It was aimed at evaluating the changes to the stability, profitability and the growth potential, and collecting the data on variation of the market scale, price of resources such as material and labor and the financial environment, thereby analyzing the correlation with the management performance. The study, to deal with the difficulties which are anticipated, like the foreign currency crisis experienced in the past, was also intended to identify the correlation between the economic conditions and the performance of the construction companies, using the experimental data in the past.
A Sensitivity Analysis for Risk Management of Commercial Buildings

The global financial crisis resulting from sub-prime mortgage crisis in the United States, beginning in 2007, has had dealt a blow to domestic economy. The economic downturn, coupled with a large number of apartments remaining unsold has resulted in contracted investment sentiment of the builders. Thus it`s difficult to even implement the business, unless the investment project is thoroughly verified as well as the accurate profitability is granted. Viewing the current situation, forecasting and evaluating the business profitability is more than important today. The study was planned to identify the factors influencing the business success and to evaluate the sensitivity, relative risk of each factor was measured, and the scope of the study was limited to the commercial buildings among other buildings except apartment buildings. Hence, the study was aimed to analyze the factors affecting the business and the sensitivity so as to be able to systematically materialize the risk management of the commercial buildings. The outcome of the study is expected to serve the useful data in analyzing the business profitability and implementing the investment projects as well.
