Nonlinear Control for A Robot Manipulator
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 17, issue 12, 1992, Pages 1333~1342
This paper deals with a robot manipulator having actuator which is described by equation
where u(t) is a control input. We employ two steps of controller design procedures. First, a global linearization is performed to yield a decoupled controllable linear system. Then a controller is designed for this linear system. We provide a rigorous analysis of the effect of uncertainty of the dynamics, which we study using robustness results in time domain based on a Lyapunov equation and the total stability theorem. Using this approach we simulate the performance of controller of a robot manipulator.
A New Recursive Formula to Derive the Fourier Transforms of Cosine-Pulses Using Modified Class-I PRS Model
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 17, issue 12, 1992, Pages 1343~1352
This paper presents a new and easy method to obtain the Fourier transforms of the n-th order cosine-pulses whose maximum amplitudes are uniform. The new method is focused on deriving a formula which is recursively related following their orders and can be well applied to some numerical solutions. On the other hand, this method also offers more compact procedures in view of analytical solutions than the conventional methods because the results are consist of the sum of two functions which are easily calculated. Especially, the formula can be represented as a complete recursion by the separation of coefficients originated by the authors and the resulting difference equation is given by the sum of the original 'sinc' functions shifted by some symmetrical factors and multiplied by some constants. The constants are easily decided from the binomial coefficients and the shifting factors from the corresponding exponential differences in the expansion of
A Study on the Holographic Optical Element for Multiple Image Processing
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 17, issue 12, 1992, Pages 1353~1361
Holographic optical element(HOE) is fabricated with the properties of lightweight, thin thickness and interconnectivity for free space. Particularly, HOE for optical interconnection and multiple image processing should have a high efficiency and equal spot intensity, Nonlinear equations for 2-dimensional binary phase grating(BPG) structure is solved by computer simulation based on modified Newton method. Computer-generated pattern drawn by plotter is scaled down and translated into the microfilm. After contact printing between the microfilm and silver halide hologram film, phase diffraction grating produces the
multiple spots. Experimental results are shown that bleached phase grating has a high efficiency and equal focused beams except central zero order.

A Study on On-line Recognition of Korean Strokes with Sequential Information Using Neural Network
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 17, issue 12, 1992, Pages 1380~1390
This paper proposes an on-line recognition system of Korean strokes using multi-layer neural network with tracing the stroke pattern. The system segments the stroke pattern into subpatterns, detects prominent stroke features in the subpatterns and integrates all the activation values of features in the related subpatterns. The activation values of the integrated stroke-specific features represent statistic characteristics of features and contributes for classifying the stroke pattern. Since the informations in Korean strokes are concentrated in the first and last parts of the strokes, the system extracts stroke-specific features in these parts attentatively and infers corner features using the sequential information of the extracted stroke-specific features in the first and last part of strokes the system is relatively simple in structure and rapid in on-line recognition of hand-written Korean strokes.
Analysis of the Type-I/II Error for the Leaky Bucket Policing Algorithm in ATM Networks
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 17, issue 12, 1992, Pages 1391~1400
In this paper, we suggested a method for evaluating the type-I/II error which is proposed by the CCITT as a criterion for the accuracy of policing algorithms in ATM networks, By the analysis of the type-I/II error of the Leaky Bucket(LB) algorithm, we investigated the relationships between the traffic parameters and the LB parameters to police the mean and peak cell rate effectively in the ON/OFF traffic. We showed that the LB parameters, the leaky rate a and the threshold M of the LB counter, could be determined as a pair of (a, M) satisfying the type-I/II error and minimizing the response time. In the ON/OFF traffic, it has been observed that the a-M characteristic curve of the LB policing algorithm only depends on the burstiness. As the results of the performance analysis, we found that the LB algorithm exhibits a good performance in the peak rate policing, but has some problems in the mean rate policing due to the trade-off between the accuracy and the response time.
A Study on Decoding Algorithm of TCM by Path Back Method
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 17, issue 12, 1992, Pages 1401~1412
On band limited channel like satellite communication and voice communication. TCM(Trellis Coded Modulation) is a communication method that has coding gain which combines modulation with channel coding without bandwidth expansion. In this paper, we apply PAM, PSK, QAM to TCM, and propose the extended path back method decoding algorithm which improved drawback of viterbi decoding algorithm and apply to TCM this decoding algorithm. Using Monte Carlo simulation, we analyze performance of each modulation technique and efficiency of decoding algorithm.
Implementation and Design of Document Class Editor based on ODA
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 17, issue 12, 1992, Pages 1412~1422
This paper describes an implementation of the document class editor based on ODA(Open Document Architecture). For processing, we divided document structure into generic logical structure and generic layout structure as ODA standard. Also this editor could edit document profile. Using the utility which was implemented to investigate the composed document by object. we confirmed the document. And we could verify the ODIF stream data of the document. We designed this editor based on DAP level 2 of international functional standard. This system was implemented in environment of the X window system and the Motif as graphical user interface. This document class editor will be used to create real document having specific document structure.

Realization of CAT Interface supporting Multitask
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 17, issue 12, 1992, Pages 1423~1436
In the paper, a CAT interface supporting multitask is realized. To interface a computer with measuring instruments, a GPIB card is designed and implemented. Controlling and displaying software using OOP and GUI are programmed with C++. A spectrum analyzer and a power meter are chosen as object instrument to be controlled. Total 9 modules are configured to manage the various resources and each module in integrated system. Also in case that several instruments are used, the system is realized to be capable of multitasking to exchange the data mutually. The multitasking is implemented under the time-sharing DOS environment. Thread-based method is used for processing, and Round Robin method for scheduling. Provided proper software modules for other object instruments are integrated, the system can control more measuring instruments simultaneously by the computer. Users can save the time and errors even without expert knowledge.
Personal Verification using Feature Patterns of Palmprint
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 17, issue 12, 1992, Pages 1437~1450
This paper describes the feature extraction of the interdigital regions of palm, and proposes a personal verification algorithm using the extracted features and the pattern types of those. The procedures of the feature extraction are as follows : first, the interdigital region is partitioned into several subregions, examining the phase of rigdes in each subregion, deciding the direction of that phase, and making the direction matrix of the region, we analyze this direction matrix to contain a feature pattern, and then, yield the first core. Second, applying the thinning to around the first core and tracing the thinned ridges, we yield the feature pattern types and second cores. Finally, the feature patterns coordinates included all of them are built. Then, distances and directions from each second core reaching to all the others are yielded from that coordinates. These informations are used to make a feature parameter. In our verification algorithm, such pattern types, the numbers of feature patterns, theses positions and feature parameters are used to analyze.
Enhanced Architecture of the V.42 bis Modem
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 17, issue 12, 1992, Pages 1451~1464
In recent high-speed data moderns for use over PSTN or leased line, the data compression technique based on CCITT V.42bis Recommendation is of popular use along sith CCITT V.42 error control function. A remaining concern to advanced-application users is the protection against unintended eavesdropping. This paper proposes the architectural model on how the security mechanism should be adopted into the above mentioned error-correction/data compression moderns. Also, the functional definitions and the operational procedures are described in detail for possible implementation.
Overlapped Object Recognition Using Extended Local Features
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 17, issue 12, 1992, Pages 1465~1474
This paper describes a new overlapped object recognition method using extended local features. At first, we extract the extended local features consisting of corners, arcs, parallel-lines, and corner-arcs from the images consisting of model objects. Based on the extended local features we construct a knowledge-base. In order to match objects, we also extract the extended local features from the input image, and then check the compatibility between the extracted features and the features in the knowledge-base. From the set of compatible features, we compute geometric transforms. If any geometric transforms are clustered, we generate the hypothesis of the objects as the centers of the clusters, and then verify the hypothesis by a reverse geometric transform. An experiment shows that the proposed method increases the recognition rate and the accuracy as compared with existing methods.
Fuzzy Control of Distturbance-added Servo System Using Modified Windowing Technique
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 17, issue 12, 1992, Pages 1475~1483
In this paper, a Fuzzy control approach of disturbance added servo system using MWT(modified windowing technique) was proposed. Because conventional windowing techniques adjust stepwisely a series of scale factors, even small disturbances make system unstable. But the proposed MWT adjusts exponentially. Therefore a servo system which applied this technique had coped excellenlty with internal and external disturbances, and also had decreased substantially steady-state deviation.
Implementation of Optical Paralle Adder using Polarization Coding
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 17, issue 12, 1992, Pages 1484~1493
In this paper, we propose the polarization coding of optical logic gates using filters and LCTV's, and represent the real-time system of an optical parallel adder to improve a carry propagation delay time. We fabricated a polarization filter for the polarization coding of a cell and an electrical system instead of an optical flip-flop which was necessary to an optical parallel adder. We used an optical fiber to play a part of decoding mask and interconnections in an optical parallel adder. The experimental results show that the polarization coding of a cell can represent 16 optical logic functions and that the implemented optical parallel adder can operate in real-time.
