A Study on Image Coding using the Human Visual System and DCT
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 17, issue 4, 1992, Pages 323~335
In this paper, an adaptive cosine transform coding scheme which incorporate human visual properties into the coding scheme is investigated. Human vision is relatively sensitive to mid-frequency band, and insensitive to very low and very high frequency band. These property was mathematically modelled with MTF(Modulation Transfer Function) through many psychovisual experiment. DCT transforms energy in spatial domain into frequency domain, so can exploit the MTF very efficiently. Another well-known visual characteristics is spatial masking effect that visibility of noise is less in regions of high activity than in regions of low activity. Proposed coding scheme imploys quantization matrix which represent the properties of these spatial frequency response of human vision, and adaptively quality of an image. To compute the activity index of an image block, simple operation is performed in spatial domain, and according to activity index. block of low activity region is more exactly quantized relatively than that of high activity region. Results showed that, at low bit rate, the subjective quality of the reconstructed images by proposed coding scheme is acceptible than that of coding scheme without HVS properties.
Performance Evaluation on the Delay and the Throughput between the Stations on the Interconnected LANs
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 17, issue 4, 1992, Pages 336~345
In this paper, the performance evaluation on the throughput and the delay between station under the interconnected LANs environments is studied. The connection is formed through bridges. Interconnected system is modelled as single-chain and multiple-chain closed queueing networks. For performance enaluation the iteration algorithm, which is based on the MVA(Mean Value Analysis)is proposed, Various system parameters, such as chain population interconnected communication link capacity, and service times of several queues, are used for the investigation of their influence of the station to station performance, Transport and MAC layers are mainly taken into consideration for the layer modeling. The analysis is shown as a graph by computer programming.
Identity Decision of 2-D Moving Object by the Fuzzy Inference
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 17, issue 4, 1992, Pages 346~360
This paper proposed a method of identity decision of moving object by the fuzzy inference. Moving object is extracted by the difference picture method and identity decision parameters of moving object are chosen area, perimeter. A/p ratio and vertex. In the brightness variation of 600 Lux-1600Lux, we determined the maximum error often parameters and then generated a fuzzified data. Fuzzified data are generated from the reference image and then decided the identity of extracted parameter by the fuzzy inference using fuzzy production rule. In order to verify validity of proposed method, experiment are performed with a toy car. As a result, it was shown that decision error was less than 4%
A Study on Yaw Control of Multi-Fan Hovering with SRFIMF
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 17, issue 4, 1992, Pages 361~370
A controller of the hovering VTOL aircraft with four fan is constructed by SRFIMF(State Rate Feedback Implicit Model-Following)theory, in which feedback state are angle acceleration, angle velocity and angle position of the aircraft during hover With yaw control of the system, characteristics of the hovering aircraft can be analyzed by changing states feedback gain and sponse provides robust stable hovering system.
Fabrication of a Optical Planar Waveguide Lens by Ti-Indiffused Proton-Exchange
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 17, issue 4, 1992, Pages 371~378
In this paper we report the fabrication of a planar optical wavehuide lens on a Y-cut LiNbO3 substrate by Ti_indiffusion and Ti-indiffused proton-exchange(TIPE). LiNbo3 planar waveguides are fabricated and refractive indices of the waveguides are fabricated and refractive indices of the waveguides are measured. Based on the measured indices, palanr waveguide lenses are designed and fabricated. The measured focal point and spot size of the fabricated lens are in good agreement with those of the designed lens.
A Direction Finding Method for General Sensor Noise Correlation
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 17, issue 4, 1992, Pages 379~386
In this paper a direction finding method which can which can estimate the direction angles of source signals impinging on the sensor array in which sensor noises are correlated is studied. This method performs the estimation of source direction angles form sensors, regardless of sensor noise correlation, by eliminating the sensor noise correlation coefficient which can be accurately estimated. Finally, this paper shows, through the computer simulation, that the proposed, method is extremely useful and superior when there exists the noise correlation between sensors, .
Optimal Design of 2-D Separable Denominator Digital Filters in Spatial Domain
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 17, issue 4, 1992, Pages 387~397
The spatial domain design of 2-dimensional separable denominator digital filters(SDDF) based on the reduced dimensional decomposition can be realized when the given 2-D impulse response specifications are decomposed into a pair of 1-D specifications via singular value decompositions(SVD). Because of use of the balaned approximation and equivalent transform as 1-D design algorithm, 2-D design algorithm retains the advantage that is numerically stable and can minimize quantization errors. In this paper in order to analyze and reduce these errors, minimum comfficient quantization realization is directly derived from impulse response specification. And using the equivalent trans form relation between mininum coefficient quantization error and minimum roundoff error realizations, we optimally realize a SDDF. This algorithm is analyzed by the simulation, which shows that it is superior to direct or balanced realization in quantization errors.
A Study on the Netted Radar Information Network
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 17, issue 4, 1992, Pages 398~414
For designing the radar integrated data network, we construct the network structure with a spatial hierarchy decomposition scheme. The RIDN can be decomposed into several subnet classes, those of which are composed of the several group classes of radar sits, In a group class, the communication nodes of a radar site are modeled by the software modules formulated with the statistical attributes of discrete events. And we get the analysis over the network through the separately constructed infra group level models which were coded with the C language. After constructing the local area network with these infra models through the proper data links. We got the analysis of the communication performance of inner models and the global network.

The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 17, issue 4, 1992, Pages 415~423
In this paper, we developed a Graphic Editor which automatically translated the state transition graph into state CHDL. Also, an algorithm for efficient state minimization is presented to reduce the redundancy state transition table.
A Datapath Scheduling Under Resource Constraints
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 17, issue 4, 1992, Pages 424~432
This paper deals with the scheduling ploblems, which are the most important subtasks in High-level syntheses. IP(integer programming) formulations is used as the scheduling problem approach. This paper describes a new resource-constraints scheduling algorithm. We have concentrated our attentions on the multicycle operations and the structural pipelining, and we fully analyze the characteristics of operators to achieve the maximal performance and the maximal resource sharing. For experiment results, we choose the 5-th order digital wave filter as a benchmark and do the schedule, Finally, we can obtain near-optimal scheduling results.
