Numerical Study on the Probability Distribution of Irradinace through Random Media
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 18, issue 4, 1993, Pages 457~467
One of the important statistical quantities for optical waves through random media is the probability distribution of irradiance. From phenomenological models, several distribution functions have been proposed. In this paper, irradiance data are obtained by computer simulation, and by comparing the proposed distribution functions with simulation data by the moment method, the histogram method, and the
-test, the validity of each distribution function is investigated.
Double-Mode SAW Filter for Mobile Communication System
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 18, issue 4, 1993, Pages 468~480
In this paper, at first, the characteristics of double mode SAW (DMS) resonator are analysed by applying the wave guide model and coupled mode theory to 1-port resonator. The DMS resonators (2-pole), which are arranged in a close, parallel configuration of two identical 1-port resonators on a single plate, and 4-pole DMS filters are designed and fabricated at the center frequency of 150.15 MHz with 3-dB bandwidth of 80 KHz. The empirical design characteristics are obtained from the comparison of experimental and theoretical values resulted from several fabrications, and the narrow bandpass filters are implemented on the basis of the above empirical results, which can be used to mobile communication systems. A ST-cut quartz substrate is selected for the stable temperature-frequence characteristics, and high resolution photolithography is applied to the fabrication of filter to get the fine electrode patterns.
The Analysis of SAW Filter Characteristics Using Ouasi-Static Approximation
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 18, issue 4, 1993, Pages 481~489
The charge distribution is calculated to analyze the quasi-static impedance of periodic interdigital transducer taking into account the effect of infinite neighboring electrodes. The charge distribution can be represented by the element factor and array factor. The radiation conductance, susceptance and static capacitance of the input and output IDT's with arbitrary voltages are obtained by the charge distribution. The impedance of apodized IDT, is analyzed by multi-track model in which IDT is represented by the parallel connection of the uniform tracks. The calculated input and output impedances are in good agreement with the experimental results.
Velocity Field Estimation using A Weighted Local Optimization
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 18, issue 4, 1993, Pages 490~498
A variety of methods for measuring the velocity from an image sequence use the relationship between the spatial and temporal gradients of image brightness function. In most situations, an additional constraint is required because the velocity is not determined uniquely by a above relationship. Horn and Schunch proposed a constraint that the velocity field should vary smoothly over the image. This requirement, however, forces the velocity field to vary smoothly even across motion boundaries. To complement this probe, Nagel introduced and 'oriented smoothness' constraint which restricts variations of velocity field only in directions with small or no variation of image brightness function. On the other hand, Paquin and Dubois proposed a different type of constraint that the velocity is constant in a small area of image. But, this constraint also creates difficulties at motion boundaries which large variations in velocity field often occur. We propose the method to overcome these difficulties by utilizing the information of discontinuities in image brightness function, and present the experimental results.
A Study on Compensating Method of 2-way Power Splitter for CATV and/or MATV Systems
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 18, issue 4, 1993, Pages 499~508
This paper has dealt with the design methods and the analysis of frequency characteristics for the power splitters with ferrite toroids, which are extensively used in CATV and/or MATV systems. The theoretical design methods and frequency characteristics of the prototype Wilkinson's 2-way power divider have been reviewed in lumped-element circuits form. On the basis of the design theory of the prototype Wilkinson's power divider, the method compensating of the prototype Wilkinson's power divider has been proposed by means of adding matching transformers. Thus, it has been shown that the theoretical frequency characteristics of the compensated power splitter are improved drastically in comparison with the prototype Wilkinson's power divider. Furthermore, the practical measurements of the frequency characteristics for the fabricated circuits show agreements with the theoretical results, and hence, the validity of the proposed design and analysis methods has been confirmed.
Design of Communication Protocol Conversion using EPN
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 18, issue 4, 1993, Pages 509~518
Protocol conversion is to resolve the imcompatibility between networks so that users on different protocols can communicate with each other. This paper designs a formal model, EPN , to increase its modeling power and analyze conversion protocol and proposes a conversion algorithm using it. The conversion algorithm has two capabilities : synchronization and automatic error recovery function. Therefore burden of protocol converter design will be reduced, automatic protocol converter design can be possible and implementation for half-gateway will be easy.
Compact-SQAM for Power & Bandwidth Algorithm of Output Error Method
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 18, issue 4, 1993, Pages 519~529
A spectral and power efficient modulation technique, named Compact Superposed Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (Compact-SQAM), is introduced. The performance of Compact-SQAM system, in a Linearly and nonlinearly amplified single and multicarrier environment, in the presence of additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN), intersymbol interference(ISI), timing jitter and adjacent channel interference (ACI), is experimentally analyzed via computer simulation. Various channel conditions, such as channel spacing, between the main and adjacent channels and fade depth on the desired main channel, are examined. Our result shows that Compact-SQAM, and better P(e) performance that other modems using simple Butteroworth type postdetection receive filters. Especially, Compact-SQAM modem achieves higher efficiency of frequency utilization and better P(e) performance than other modems in the severly bandlimited nonlinear multicarrier channels.
Multichannel Adaptive IIR Beamforming Algorithm of Output Error Method
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 18, issue 4, 1993, Pages 530~536
In adaptive antenna, recently Gooch suggested a new adaptive system using equation error method, but the system demands inverse model about the pole part and thus does not guarantee stability. In this paper, algorithm is proposed that has a basis on Popov's extra-stability theory. And system is developed of output error method. In addition, the result obtained by applying proposed algorithm to system of output error method is compared with that of Gooch model.
A Model on the OSI Fault Management Implementation for Effective Alarm Processing
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 18, issue 4, 1993, Pages 537~548
The OSI fault management is composed of specific management functions such as the Alarm Reporting Function, Event Report Management Function, and Log Control Function. The fault management is to notify and manage the events and the alarm data which are transfered as the information of the fault management may be managed effectively. And it is necessary to design the model of the fault management properly by using these functions for the study of network management activities. Therefore, in this paper, the integrated management model of the Event Report Management and Log Control Function based on Alarm Reporting Function is investigated. Also, the system component of alarm collector which is added in the manager system for the effective fault management is studied and proposed.
An Approximate Closed Form Representation of the Microstrip Dyadic Surface Green's Function
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 18, issue 4, 1993, Pages 549~560
A simple closed form approximation is developed by a new approach presented in this paper for the microstrip surface dyadic Green's function which arises in the problem of an electric current point source on an infinite planar grounded dielectric substrate. This closed form approximation includes the effects of the space wave, the surface wave and their coupling within the transition region near the source, and remains accurate as near as
from the source point for a substrate thickness as large as
, is the free space wavelength, This result can significantly facilitate the rigorous moment method analysis of microstrip antenna arrays on relatively this substrates of practical interest. Numerical results illustrating the accuracy of the closed form approximation are presented and CPU times associated with some mutual impedance calculations are also included.
A New Carrier Phase-Independent Discrete STR Algorithm for Sampled Receiver
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 18, issue 4, 1993, Pages 561~571
In this paper, a new discrete Symbol Timing Recovery (STR) algorithm, is proposed. This algorithm is derived from the optimum estimation theory. The algorithm combines the advantages of Mueller and
algorithm and Gardner algorithm, and avoids some of their shortcomings. The implementation of the new timing detector is simple and the combined operations of Carrier Recovery (CR) -STR is possible because the operation of the new STR is independent of the carrier phase. On the other hand, the behavior of nonlinear characteristics in the new algorithm is analyzed and explained. The performance evaluation is accomplished in detail by numerical calculations and Monte-Carlo simulations. In these respects, this algorithm is similar to Gardner's algorithm, but in tracking performance due to pattern jitter at small rolloff, the proposed algorithm is superior to Gardner's algorithm.
A New Frequency Assignment Algorithm for Increasing C/IM in Two-Level SCPC Systems
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 18, issue 4, 1993, Pages 572~584
In this paper, we propose an efficient method to allocate carrier frequencies so as to minimize intermodulation products in two-level SCPC systems in which Hub station and many Remote stations communicate each other through the satellite transponder. Also we present a very efficient method to evaluate intermodulation products with highly reduced CPU time in two-level SCPC systems. We study and analyze the performance of some possible methods to extend the Deletion and Insertion operation, which is proposed by Okinaka and applied to only one-level SCPC systems, to two-level SCPC systems. The proposed algorithm is carefully selected out of these methods and is optimized, which shows superior performance to any other published strategies, especially in that it has very excellent characteristics in terms of generality for practical application. Considering the fact that most published strategies are seldom applicable to actual two-level SCPC systems, we can say that the proposed algorithm in this paper is quite meaningful.
Design of Bandpass Filter Using Asymmetrical Coupled Microstrip Lines
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 18, issue 4, 1993, Pages 585~590
A wide passband filter consisting of 3-stage ssymmetrical coupler can be realized, where the admittance inverter parameters in equivalent circuit of asymmetrical coupled microstrip lines are given as a function of a fundamental design parameter of a bandpass filter. An experimental filter was designed over 22 percend bandwidth centered at 9GHz and optimized using Super-Compact. Measured forward transmission and forward reflection closely matched design data but measured insertion loss was slightly higher (0.7dB) than the designed value.
Performance Improvement of MSK and GMSK by Differential Demodulation
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 18, issue 4, 1993, Pages 591~601
In this paper, the relationship between k consecutive outputs of the conventional differential detector and output of differential detector with k-bit delayer MSK and GMSK signal, using a k-bit delay circuit, is the product of k successive output of the conventional differential detector. This relationships are used to generalize the structure of receiver which was proposed by Makrakis using 2-bit delay line. The error rate performance of the proposed method is carried out by computer simulation and significant performance improvement is achieved for differential MSK and GMSK system.
The Design of CMOS DDA and DDA differential integrator
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 18, issue 4, 1993, Pages 602~610
The DDA of new active element and the DDA differential integrator are designed. The DDA can be improved matching problems of external elements in op-amp application circuits. The design of DDA is used the transconductance element, differential pair and
design rule. In order to evaluate the performance of the CMOS DDA, we simulated the DDA voltage inverter and the DDA level shifter using the designed CMOS DDA. Furthermore, the grounded resistor and the differential integrator is designed using the CMOS DDA and we found that its characteristics are agreed to OP-AMP differential integrator's. We performed the layout of the CMOS DDA and DDA differential integrator with MOSIS
