A Two Phase Reservation protocols for efficient transmission of multimedia traffic in wireless ATM network

This paper propose Two-phase Reservation(TPR) MAC protocol. At this protocol, mobile terminal that request CBR,VBR traffic service transport reservation data to the setup slot of up-link frame. then, this protocol can minimized waste slot and increase using rate of the frame. This protocol support the mobile terminal that request resource allocation to decreased total blocking rate caused time delay by minimized propagation delay time. This paper appraise call blocking rate and performance of transmission delay for CBR, VBR traffic transmission using simulation.
Code Acquisition Method Using Periodic Property of PN Code and Probability Distribution of AWGN in DS/SS System

An effective code acquisition method using the periodicity property of PN codes and probability of AWGN is proposed in DS/SS system. In this paper, the method of utilizing this periodic property of spreading signal in a pilot channel is investigated and a simple averaging filter suitable to AWGN channel is derived. In addition, we describe the method of composing proposed averaging filter to the conventional acquisition system and the capability of using sequential estimation in CDMA system with asynchronous mode. The simulation results show that the mean acquisition time is reduced with the proposed acquisition system, especially in low SNR region.
A Study on Chaotic Synchronization of Chua's Circuit with RLCG Transmission Line

In this paper, a transmitter and a receiver using two identical Chua's circuits are proposed and a RLCG synchronizations are investigated.As several problems have been found in both the drive-response synchronization and the coupled synchronization in the previous researches, a new drive-coupled synchronization theory is proposed that can be applicable to wire communication.Since the synchronization of the wire transmission system is impossible by coupled synchronization, theory having both the drive-response and the coupled synchronization is proposed. As a result, the chaotic synchronization has delay characteristics in the RLCG transmission system caused by the line parameters L and C.

A Construction of Remote Monitoring Systme Environment for Tracign Execution of Distributed Object Group Model

We have been implemented the object model using the concepts of object group, its requirement and functions defined for specifying the open telecommunication network structure, like TINA. Our paper is to verify the executing Procedures of object groups in the distributed object group model environment implemented. Hence, when objects in the same or different object groups are binding one another for service or management, for showing state changes and the information flows between/among the binding objects, we designed and implemented an remote monitoring system for tracing execution procedures of object groups. Our system consists of 3 modules, the monitoring process module for catching information collected from object group manager in each object group, the monitoring storage module for storing information catched from the monitoring processing module, and the monitoring output module which presents information catched or stored to users via GUI, as monitoring information.This monitoring information is categorized create, delete, enable and disable states of a sequence of objects, and binding orders and binding time of these objects, showed as visual icons, texts, graphic types on GUI screen
A Synchronization Scheme for Multimedia Services in a Connection-Oriented Network Environment

In this paper, the problem of multimedia synchronization based on scheduling the transmission of multimedia documents in a connection-oriented network environment is investigated. Assuming channels with different bandwidth and delay characteristics are established between the multimedia server and the client, the scheduling problem is formulated to ensure stream synchronization as a parallel processor scheduling problem. Since the problem is NP-hard, we propose two heuristic algorithms, namely FSA and BSA, with time complexity O(n log n + nm), where n is the number of dta units to be scheduled in the request multimedia document and m the number of channels available. Also an enumerative algorithm is developed to obtain the exact solutions. Extensive computational simulations reveal that the proposed consistently obtain near-optimal solutons. From the simulation results, we also identify special characteristics of the available channels which affect the relative performance of the proposed algorithms.
A Study on Efficient Bandwidth Allocation Algorithm on Virtual Path in ATM Network

For ATM networks, it is required to allow call admission as many as possible as well as to provide appropriately differentiated QoS(Quality of Service). In this paper, we proposed an algorithm that improves Partial Reserved Sharing and allocates dynamically the bandwidth during on service. The proposed method can achieve more opportunity of connection for all generated services.
An Efficient Multiplexing Scheme for Low Cell Delay Variation in ATM Multimedia traffic

In this paper, we propose an efficient multiplexing scheme to reduce the CDV and jitter in ATM multimedia traffic. For VoD and multimedia services in ATM require guarantied QoS and the QoS is appearing as an important issue. We propose a non-work-conserving scheme and two-stage statistical multiplexing along with the window and the state FIFO queues. The simulation results show that the CDV is significantly reduced due to reduced clumping and dispersing between VC's in VP's.
A resource allocation algorithm for WATM based on frame

In this paper, we propose Offset Counter Weighted round Robin (OCWRR) algorithm which is a resource allocation algorithm in medium access control (MAC) layer of wireless ATM (WATM) and analyze the performance of the proposed algorithm. In this proposed OCWRR algorithm, the loss of real-time traffic sources is reduced by resource allocation considering the delay characteristics of cells. And the system's complexity is also reduces by managing the tolerable delay of cells based on the unit of frame. In addition, the fairness among the traffics of the system is guaranteed by use of offset counter (OC). OC represents the value of the difference between the weight and the amount of allocated resource and is used to limit the amount of resource which will be allocated to each connection. The analysis of the performance shows that the total loss of cells is reduced in the proposed algorithm compared to the conventional algorithm and the fairness is still maintained.
Calibration of a Microwave Leakage Monitor at 2.45 GHz

In modern Society, it is well known that microwave disturbance is harmful to human body as well as it is producing malfunction of electronic equipment, computers and medical instrument. If a microwave oven is not shielded properly, the microwave radiated from the microwave oven can give a harmful influence to a person. A calibration system of a microwave leakage monitor at 2.45 GHz is presented in this paper. Correction factors for the meter scales of several microwave leakage monitors are obtained by measuring output power of the calibration system. The polarization ellipticity error was also measured These measurements were performed in an anechoic chamber. It was found that total uncertainty of this calibration system is about 0.66 dB
A study on the characteristics of typical bonding wires for MIC and MMIC considering packaging effects

Typical grounded bonding wires in a metal package are characterized using the Method of Moments with appropriate impedance loading. Not only the nature of a single bonding wire but also the mutual coupling characteristics of two bonding wires in a package are analyzed over the wideband frequency range. Particularly, a change of self inductance and mutual coupling characteristics near a resonant frequency is examined in detail.
A Study on Performance Improvement of the manhattan Street Network with Irregular Structure Using Node Clustering

In this paper, we study the routing strategies in the Manhattan Street Network (MSN) when it has an irregular structure, for instance, as a new node insertion into its regular node interconnectivity pattern. To cope with the routing problems arisen, we introduce a node clustering scheme in which several nodes in neighbourhood are grouped together, and the routing is essentially based on such node groups, namely, the clusters, rather than the individual nodes as done in the previous works. We then propose a conflict resolution scheme among packets in competition under this environment, and present its performance study via computer simulation. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme gives better performance than the existing one as the increase of the network size, and we expect that it also works very well in such environment in which packets generated at a node are destined more to the node inside the cluster it belongs to, than to the outside, which is generally the case of the real field.
A Study on the Moisture Content Measurement of Grain usign Microwave Techniques

In this paper, a microwave transceiver at 10.5 GHz in X-band for the moisture content measurement of grain is designed and implemented. The transmitter of this microwave transceiver is composed of a single biased oscillator with a dielectric resonator, which has the high Q value and good temperature stability, an isolator, and a horn antenna. The receiver is composed of a horn antenna, a detector with a microwave schottky diode, and a digital voltmeter. The main components of he transceiver are designed using HP EEsof libra and are implemented by Hybrid-MIC(Microwave Integrated Circuit) form. For the samples of Hwasung and Chuchung rough rices with the moisture content of 12∼26%, the relationship between the moisture content of grain and output voltage is measured by this microwave transceiver. From the experimental results, a temperature and density-independent calibration model for the moisture content measurement is suggested with regression analysis of the statistical method.
Phase noise analysis and optimum design of dielectric resonator oscillators

In this paper the phase noise of the HEMT oscillators is analyzed by means of the conversion matrices in the frequency domain. Such analysis is verified through comparison with the measured results. The phase noise and the output power of X-band parallel feedback oscillators are calculated at various load impedances. The oscillator with the optimun load impedance exhibits low phase noise of -104.1dBc/Hz(100kHz offset) and 8.3dBm(10kHz resolution BW) output power at 10.76GHz. The existing algorithm for calculation a phase noise is extended os that it may be applied to general 3-port oscillators. By using the algorithm, the phase noise and the output power of Ka-band series feedback oscillators with various feedback lengths are calculated and the tendency of variations is extracted. The similar tendency is obtained in fabricated oscillators.
Endless Polarization Control System for Coherent Optical Communications

Polarization control between transmitted optical signal and local oscillator signal in coherent optical communication system is indispensable to recover original baseband signal at the receiver. This means that we always need to control state-of- polarization(SOP) of local oscillator signal to be matched to that of received signal. In this paper, we introduce a newly developed high speed endless polarization controller to solve this problem. It is composed of four phase retarders for endless control. Operation speed of the proposed polarization controller is improved much comparing with previous ones in two aspects. One is that we improved operation speed a lot by employing liquid crystals (LCs) instead of fiber compression for phase retardation, and the other is that we minimized calculation time of polarization control by using newly developed peak-search algorithm. Operation time of LC to its bias voltage is several tens of milliseconds and the calculation time for exact polarization point is several tens of nanoseconds when we use 300MAz computer, so that overall operation is time of polarization controller is limited by the operation time of LC and its value is only several tens of milliseconds. This means that operation speed of the proposed polarization controller is more than 100 times faster than that of previous ones.
Moving Objects Trackins by using Background Learning and Bayes Decision

Rigid of non-rigid moving objects tracking algorithm is proposed. The algorithm segments local moving parts from image sequence in the static camera environment and tracks them, efficiently. It requires no camera calibration and no knowledge of the installed position of camera. For robust motion detection from a dynamic background scene, the proposed algorithm performs statistical modeling of moving objects and background, and trains the statistical feature of background with the initial parts of sequence which have no moving objects. And it discriminates moving pixels from background by the Bayes decision with the Gaussian blurred background PDF of the trained sequence and the updated image. And then, moving objects segmentation is performed using the connected components labeling of moving pixels and the projection profiles of them. It can be used for the unmanned surveillance system, traffic monitoring system.
An Efficient Video Down Conversion Algorithm Using Modified IDCT Basis Functions

A traditional method for down conversion of MPEG compressed video is to perform low-pass filtering and sub-sampling after full decompression. However, this method has two shortcomings large memory requirement and high computational complexity. To overcome these drawbacks, recent research has been focussed on the down conversion in the DCT domain. The existing methods need only a quarter of full frame memory because completely reduced frames are stored in the frame memory. But a loss of field information often causes significant error during motion compensation and results in the degradation of image quality. To solve this problem, we adopt a hybrid structure, where the field information is preserved by performing down conversion in the DCT domain only for the horizontal direction and down conversion in the spatial domain for the vertical direction. Furthermore, we present a novel technique for the horizontal down conversion, which adopts a modified 4-IDCT kernel. The modified 4-IDCT kernel outperforms the conventional 4-IDCT kernel in that it additionally performs low-pass filtering and sub-sampling. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme provides high visual quality while maintaining comparable complexity.
A novel codec for animation moving picture

In this paper, we propose a new efficient codec to compress animation video. Conventional software codecs to compress moving pictures are Cinepak, MPEG-1 and Indeo 5.0 but these are for the natural image. Therefore, when we compress animation moving pictures at low bit rate by those codec, the quantization artifacts, e.g., false color, contours and blocking artifacts, are occured os that the quality of images are very poor. Generally, the natural image requires 24 bits per pixel, which are red, green and blue components with 8 bits per pixel respectively. Though animation are quantized in color below the rate of 8 bpp, having 256 colors, the subjective quality is approximately equal to original images. In a scene, the region of objects are made of one color so that the correlation between neighbor pixels is very high.Also, because the contours of object are thick, the quality is high unless those are too degraded. It is often that the background is fixed and the objects are moving in a scene. Its quality will be degraded when we adpot block-processing like MPEG-1 because the motion is very big. with FLC of Autodesk, not being International standards, which uses run-length code, the subjective quality is good but color is degraded for using the global palette.In this paper, considering the characteristics of animation we design a new codec which has intra frame coder and interframe coder. The intra mode coding method consists of color quantization, ADPCM, forward classification and Golomb-Rice coder. The inter coding method is proposed, which is the block-based processing dependent on the characteristics of motion. Finally, we appreciate the proposed codec by the comparision of objective and subjective qualities with conventional codecs like MPEG-1, FLC and Intel Indeo 5.0.
A 3-D Mesh Geometry Compression Using Predictive Two-Stage Quantization

In conventional predictive quantization schemes for 3-D mesh geometry, excessively large residuals or prediction errors, although occasional, lead to visually unacceptable geometric distortion. This is due to the fact that they cannot limit the maximum quantization error within a given bound. In order to completely eliminate the visually unacceptable distortion caused by large residuals, we propose a predictive two-stage quantization scheme. This scheme is very similar to the conventional DPCM except that the embedded quantizer is replaced by a series of two quantizers. Each quantizer output is further compressed by an arithmetic code. When applied to typical 3-D mesh models, the scheme performs much better than the conventional predictive quantization methods and, depending upon input models, even than the MPEG-4 compression method for 3-D mesh geometry both in rate-distortion sense and in subjective viewing.
Development of an Algorithm for Copyright Protection in Colored Image based on Fourier Series Expansion

Digital watermarking, one of the copyright protection techniques, embeds imperceptible 'marks' into multimedia data to prevent illegal copy or distribution of data without agreement of copyright owners. In this research, an algorithm is suggested to enhance robustness of color images to digital manipulation, such as compression, blurring, addition of noise, cropping and others. The algorithm consists of two consecutive steps: conversion of the color images from RGB mode into YIQ mode, and then Fourier series expansion for Y dimension using sin and cos functions. For conversion, values in Y dimension are converted into frequency domain and location for insertion of watermarking is sought by generating M×N random sequence numbers. then Fourier series expansion is conducted using sin function and cos functions. The algorithm embeds 'watermark' data into the Fourier coefficients obtained in Fourier expansion. In the experiment, the watermark correlation ranges from 0.0755 to 0.9792 for JPEG compression, blurring, noise addition, and other image distortions. Compared with previous approaches, the result shows the algorithm is very robust to image manipulation.
Puncturing of Turbo Codes According to Importance of Packet Data of Source Coder(CS-ACELP)

In this paper, we propose the turbo codes combined with the CS-ACELP speech coder. The CS-ACELP and turbo codes are being considered as speech coder and channel coder of IMT-2000 system. The CS-ACELP is 8 kbps transmission rate. The code rate of channel coder is given by 1/2. Usually, 1/2 rate turbo codes is obtained by uniformly puncturing 1/3 rate turbo codes. however, In this paper, the puncturing methods according to importance of the output packet data of the source coder is proposed for the turbo codes. The importance of the output packet data is analyzed by checking the sensitibity of speech parameters to channel errors. The sensitivity of source coder output packet data is measured in noisy channel. the simulation is executed over Rayleigh fading channel. The performance improvement of proposed puncturing method was verified in the informal subjective listening test and MOS test.
Transparent Low Bit Rate Below 64 kb/s Audio Compression Using Wavelets

In this paper, we propose a low bit rate, high fidelity audio codec using wavelet, which is well-matched to the psychoacoustic model. We decompose the audio signal into 29 mon-uniform subbands approximated to the critical bands using the tree structured wavelet packet decomposition. When this transform is performed, we select a wavelet which can be best applied to the information obtained from the psychoacoustic model. In the quantization procedure of wavelet coefficients, we select the scale factors of each frame from gradually broader range as moving to the higher frequency region, and quantize these scale factors according to their pre-searched dynamic ranges to minimize the number of bits needed in expression of each audio frame under certain distortion level. Using the proposed method, we get the compact disc(CD) quality of audio at 52-64 kbps(kilo bits per second) per channel and in comparison with MPEG-1 LayerⅡ, the coding quality of the proposed codec is greatly superior to that of MPEG-1 LayerⅡ at 48 kbps.
On study of Uncertainty Principle of Natural Observation Transform of Discrete Type

In the natural observation theorem, the observation of the waveform of input signals is achieved by using the natural observation transform. Uncertainty principle is proved by using the discrete equivalent time constant for the natural observation transform of discrete neighboring type. In this paper, the properties of observation of waveform using natural observation transform of discrete normal type are specified with the point of view of uncertainty principle. Furthermore, these relationship is induced by means of the index of mean dimension number as well as the discrete equivalent time constant.
A Study on the Assessment of Qos for Telephone/FAX Service over ATM

In this paper, we studied on the assessment of QoS for telephone/Fax service over ATM networks. To do this, we modeled ATM networks of structured DS1 link using OPNET. And we experimented assessment of quality for telephone/Fax service by varying the value of ATM QoS parameters, especially, cell loss and cell delay. For quality assessment, SNR and MOS were used as an objective and a subjective measure, respectively. Experimental results have shown that MOS score 3.5 as well as SNR 30 dB could be obtained at CLR of 10-3 or below for telephone service, and Fax service must maintain CLR of 10-5 of below for good quality.
