Design and Analysis of Decision-directed Carrier Recovery for High-speed Satellite Communications

A decision-directed carrier phase recovery scheme for high-speed satellite communications is proposed. Since the estimation is performed in a complex domain from the baseband signal, the scheme has fast acquisition performance, unlike the conventional PLL. This merit it applicable for the burst-mode modem in the TDMA(Time Division Multiple Access) transmission system. Also, this scheme can be implemented easily because low pass filters(LPFs) are utilized in filtering the estimates in order to suppress the noise within the carrier recovery loop. Moreover it does not require any divider or voltage-controlled oscillator(VCO). The performance is analyzed through analytical methods and simulation.
Performance Analysis of Wavelet Prototyped CMFB MC-CDMA for Local Area Application

In our newly proposed multi-carrier CDMA data transmission method for a local area mobile communication applicaton, a perfect reconstruction cosine modulated filter bank is introduced to take the place of the fast Fourier transform as a purpose to reduce spectral overlaps among neighboring subchannels. Since the CMFB’s prototype filter having a wavelet property is designed to maintain the maximum size of sidelobes much smaller than those of the FFT, the inter-symbol-interference and inter-channel-interference between neighboring subchannels can be effectively reduced. To verify the behavior of our proposed MC-CDMA system, the reverse-link bit error rates with respect or SNR under Rayleigh fading and additive white Gaussian noise channel environments are computed and simulated. The results show an improved system performance over the conventional MC-CDMA based FFT method in the view point fo minimizing interference effects.
Performance of the Decorrelating Detector Using Base Station Antenna Arrays

In this paper, a vector channel model is proposed, and some statistical properties of the asymptotic efficiency of the decorrelating detector using base-station antenna arrays are investigated, It is shown that we can increase the asymptotic efficiency of the decorrelating detector using base-station antenna arrays up to unity if we use infinitely many antennas when the channel is angle-nondispersive. For angle-dispersive channels, it is shown that we can enhance the asymptotic efficiency of the decorrelating detector by emplying antenna arrays.
AVL Demand Split for the Wireless Communication Network Design Using Multinomial Logit Model

A study on the demand split for wireless communication in AVL, which plays the important role in the information collect systems of ITS, is carried out in this paper. The Multinomial Logit model is used in the analysis for the demand split. The preference data collected by interviews are used as the independent variables. It is proved that only the monthly average cost and usage of Personal Comm. Equipmentss effect significantly on the choice of wireless communication and the choice probability of the user of Personal Comm. Equipments for TRS is smaller than of the other.
Compensation of Nonlinear Distortion for Multicode DC/CDMA Systems

This paper presents a combinet compensation method as a technique of compensating the nonlinear distortion caused by the power amplifier operated at low backoff level in the multicode DS/CDMA systems. The combined compensation method can effectively compensates the nonlinear distorition of multicode signal and data symbol by the power amplifier, because it linearizes the power amplifier and, after the estimating of the expected received symbol sequences using by the nonlinearity of transmitter, detects the symbol sequence with the maximum value of likelihood based on ML scheme. Simulation shows that in AWGN and fading channel this sheme can compensate the nonlinear distortion of the power amplifier in the order of 2.5 – 3.5 Db.
Mobile Communication System Performance and Cell Allocation by using Spreading code with Fast Acquisition

In this paper, we analyze the performance of asynchronous DS/CDMA system with Kronecker sequence, as a spreading sequence of base station for fast initial acquisition. We compare the system performances under inter-cell interferences between reference and adjacent base stations, assigned maximally and minimally cross correlated sequences to reference base stations’s spreading sequence. With this results, we show the Kronecker sequence can be used as a base station spreading and indentification sequence, and propose the methods of the reuse of sequences and cell planning.
Cleaning Policies in Flash Memory for Mobile Computers

Recent studies in mobile computing technology aim to support ubiquitous communications by reducing physical sizes and power consumptions. Flash memoris are one of best candidates to meet such requirements. The features of nonvolatility, low power consumption, and fast access time for read operations are sufficient grounds to support flash memory as major components of mobile systems. The special memory management, however, should be taken to fully take advantage of those features. The write operation to a word must follow the cleaning operation of a whole block including the word. And the number of cleanings is limited. This paper presents efficient policies of flash memory blocks which reduce the number of block cleanings and approximate to equal life time of blocks. The simulated results show that the proposed policies have good performances.

In this paper, we analyze the reliability and the bandwidth efficiency of various communication schemes, and investigate the characteristic of short range exclusive communication architecture, which is compatible for AVHS of ITS. Block and convolutional coded BPSK, QPSK with perfect CSI in CDMA were considered. Especially, we can find the probability of symbol error and packet error by use of the charecteristic equation. And we also te access of the reliability and frequency efficiency of communication schemes by use of those.
Evaluation of Call Handling Capacity for Mobile Origination Call in the CDMA Mobile System

In this paper, we first describe the architecture of the BS(base station) in the CMS(CDMA mobile system) and them model one BSC(base station controller) group as a queueing network. Through analytic approach, we analyze the mean waiting time at each transmission mode in the packet networks between the TCE(traffic channel element) in the BTS(base station transceiver subsystem) and the selector in the BSC. For the traffic data transmision technology at the TCE during the conversation time, we consider two kinds of transmission technologies such as the non-staggered frame scheme and the staggered frame scheme. By using the computer simulation for the given queueing network model, we evaluate the traffic data transfer delay form the TCE to the selector. Based on these results, we present the call handling capacity of one BSC group for mobile origination calls in the CMS.
Low Probability of Intercept(LPI) Performance in jamming and nonjaming envirnments for SHF and EHF satellite communication systems

The basic purpose of an LPI capability for a military satellite communications system is to prevent the enemy from locating our communications system, which will decrease the effect of jamming and physical attack, In this paper, we analyzed the quality factors for the essential components of the LPI system which provide come advantage to the corporative transmitter and receiver over the jammer and intercept receiver, For the analysis, we modeled simulated the SHF/EHF satellite system and terminal based on uplink jamming environments. And, we also analyed survivability level against the jamming condition through the performance comparison in Dualband(SHF/EHF). From the analysis results, it is found that factor affecting the intercept range in a jamming environment is the EIRP of the jammer and available spread bandwidth.
A Timer-based Multilayer Location Management Strategy for PCS Networks

In this paper, we propose a location management strategy that minimizes the radio bandwidth cost for paging and location update. The proposed strategy uses the concept of multiplayer and is based on the timer-initiated location update and 3-step paging. The system assigns an optimal layer number to al mobile terminal according to the user’s mobility pattern and call arrival rate. The mobile terminal performs a location update, if necessary, when a timer expires where a simple algorithm is used for the calculation of timeout values. We compare the proposed strategy with other competitive ones in terms of the cost of radio bandwidth for paging and location update. Simulation results are provided to demonstrate the cost-effectiveness of the proposed strategy under various scenarios.

Dynamic COS Selection Scheme for Supporting Handover in the PNNI-Based Wireless ATM Networks

Wireless ATM will be used for broadband mobile multimedia service in the PNNI-based wireless LAN environment, before its application to public wireless networks. In this paper, a new COS selection sheme using DTL information is proposed for a PNNI-based wireless ATM network, In this scheme, end ATM swithches and exit border nodes strore the DTL information of mobile terminals end-to-end connection in their local tables. When a mobile terminal moves to al new ATM switch during its communication, the stored DTL onformation will be used for dynamic COS selection purposes. The analysis results show that the proposed scheme can reduce the COS selection delay, compared with Toh’s scheme in an Intra-PG(Peer Group) handover or Inter-PG handover.
Channel Optimization in Metropolitan PCS System by Simulated Annealing

Personal communication system in metropolitan area needs an adaptive channel assignment strategy to cope with the dynamic traffic behaviours of customers even during a day. Reducing overall hand-off failure rates is a very important factor to improve the service quality. Accordingly, in this paper, we studied an optimal channel assignment problem for the number of reserved hand-off channels at each base station in a metropolitan personal communication system. Specifically, we analyzed the monility of subscribers, and then proposed an optimization algorithm to search for an sub-optimal set of the numbers of hand-off channels at the base statins, using simulated annealing technology which was a general approach to NP-complete combinatorial optimization problems, By defining a cost function that was the sum of originating call blocking probability and a weighted value of the dropping probability of hand-off calls, we minimized the sum of the cost functions at all e base stations, given any typical pattern of subscribers’ mibilities in the metropolitan area. As a result, we found that the call dropping probability could be controlled low by adjusting the numbers of hand-off reservation chan-nels at each base aynamically to the overall metropolitan traffic characteristics. We could get about 40%~70% reduction of costs. We also proved that the proposed optimization algorithm indeed gave a much better sub-optimal set of channel assignments than a simple Greedy optimization algorithm. The proposed agorithm can be utilized as an off-line supplementary guideline to the PCS operators, who can get benefits by controlling the daily channel allocation strategies according to the optimized solutions.
A ZS Synchronization Algorithm with a Small Channel Error Propagation

Among Zero Suppression(ZS) algorithms for synchronous stream, a ZS-2 has a weakness of channel error propagation. By minimizing substituted bits in block substitution, it will be improved. In this paper we propose a azs-3 algorithm which decreases a mean error propagation about 18.7% to ZS-2’s at n=8.
A Secure T1-Rate Digital Image Conference System

In this paper we propose a secure T1-rate digital image conference system which consisits a stream cipher of 7-bit real adder with 2-bit carry and a fast and stable 2-step full-duplex synchronization. And we analyze the cipher algorithm and the synchronization performance of the system.
A Study on the Security against Replay Attacks in the Password-based Authentication Protocol K1P

Authentication protocols required for securing computer communications, should be verified in terms of security against various protocol attacks. A replay attack which is one of those attacks, is classified into a lot of kinds. However, it is not so easy to detect it by formal methods because such a replayed message has data and structures equal to those of a message for the protocols. Therefore, it is reconnended to verity the protocols with a taxonomy of  for a basis. In this paper, we improve the password-based authentication protocol K1P[1,2] on security against replay attacks on the basis of the Syverson’s taxonomy, and comment on some mistake of.
Design and Implementation of the SCM Optical Transmitter and Receiver for Personal Communication Network(PCN) Application

The fiberoptic links show the good quality for the high speed digital signal transmission and analog signal transmission. And the usage of the fiberoptic links is increasing now. In this paper, we desined and implemented the optical transmitter and receiver which are able to be considered as the main part of the fiberoptic links. Implemented optical transmission method. We extracted the optimum optical modulation index(OMI) for the maximum carrier to noise ratio(CNR) through the simulation. The result of the simulation was used for input of the system performance measurement. After the transmission test of SCMed two signals of which frequencies are 1.9 GHz and 2.1 GHz for the PCN application, we show the fact that the implemented system can be used for the PCN application.
