Performance analysis of iterative groupwise equal-delay interference cancellation(IGEIC) for multiuser detection of coherent W-CDMA system
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 27, issue 3B, 2002, Pages 179~187
This paper proposes and analyzes the iterative groupwise equal-delay interference cancellation(IGEIC) algorithm for coherent detection of an asynchronous wideband DS-CDMA system in a single cell over multipath fading channels. The IGEIC algorithm divide users in a system into several groups, and subtract out interference signal from the received signal as many as the number of users within a user group, iteratively. The IGEIC algorithm is also classified into the iterative groupwise equal-delay serial interference cancellation(IGESIC) algorithm and the iterative groupwise equal-delay parallel interference cancellation(IGEPIC) algorithm. In the case of perfect correlation for spreading codes, it shows that the performance of IGESIC and IGEPIC algorithm is the same after interference cancellation of as many as the number of users within a user group, but the performance of IGEPIC algorithm is superior to the IGESIC algorithm just before fecal cancellation within a user group. The results show that (he performance of the two proposed algorithms are also superior to the SIC algorithm by 3dB.
Multiuser Detection Using Hopfield Neural Network Algorithm in Multi-rate CDMA Communications
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 27, issue 3B, 2002, Pages 188~195
In this paper, we consider efficient multiuser receiver structures using Hopfield neural network algorithm focused to construct a synchronous multi-rate code division multiple access (CDMA) system. Although the optimum receiver for multiuser detection can be realized attaining the best BER performance, it is too complex for practical implementation. Therefore, we propose near-optimal receivers of relatively low computationally complex multiuser detection structures for realizing multi-rate CDMA system and their performances are compared with conventional matched filter and other prominent multi-rate multiuser detectors, Computer simulations show that the Hopfield neural network based multiuser receiver achieves substantially better BER performance in Rayleigh fading environments.
Performance Analysis of Coded-OFDM for Wireless Multimedia Communication
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 27, issue 3B, 2002, Pages 196~201
OFDM(orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex) modulates transmitting data with many carriers in parallel. As a result, high-speed data transmission is carried out and high spectral efficiency is provided by overlapping orthogonal frequencies. Therefore, OFDM is applied to many communication systems. In this paper, according to modulation methods(M-PSK and M-QAM), coded-OFDM wireless communication is simulated. Turbo code is used and two channels(virtual and real channel) are used. both channels have multipath delay spread, Gaussian noise, and peak power clipping. As a result of the simulation, coding gain is about 3dB and it is proved that M-QAM modulation is better than M-PSK. Start after striking space key 2 times.
Performance Analysis of Disconnected Operation on Mobile Computing
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 27, issue 3B, 2002, Pages 202~211
Because wireless links are subject to disturbances and failures, it is important to support disconnected operations in mobile computing. Many schemes have been proposed to support the efficient disconnected operations. In this paper, we analyze and measure the computation time including disconnected operations to evaluate the performance of mobile computing on error prone wireless links. Mobile computation consists of three states: data hoarding, disconnected operation, and block states. We estimate the computation time using various parameters; error rate and recovery rate of wireless link, hoarding overhead, logging overhead, and reintegration overhead, etc. We can choose efficient strategies for disconnected operations and predict the performance using the results of this analysis.
Capacity Analysis of Smart Antenna Systems with Macro Diversity
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 27, issue 3B, 2002, Pages 212~219
In this paper, how to perform beamforming and power control for the systems with smart antennas is introduced in consideration of macro-diversity, and cell capacity of the systems is analyzed. In the result, as the number of the base stations linked to mobiles increases, capacity increases in the reverse link. On the other hand, macro diversity causes capacity loss in forward link. It is expected that the result of this work may be used in designing the next generation mobile communication systems for high quality services such as multi media data and wireless internet etc.
Decision-feedback Blind Adaptive Multiuser Detector For Synchronous CDMA System
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 27, issue 3B, 2002, Pages 220~225
MUD(Multiuser detection) technology which locates desired signal and removes interference signal from multiple access signals increases system capacity and decreases multiple access effect. In this paper, we develop a blind adaptive multiuser detector for synchronous CDMA with a noise-whitened filter. To improve the symbol error probability performance, DFBD (Decision-Feedback Blind Adaptive Multiuser Detector) is proposed and compared with BD(Blind Adaptive Multiuser Detector). The proposed DFBD is slightly improved.
Traffic Channel Management of the Radio Network Controller in IMT-2000 W-CDMA System
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 27, issue 3B, 2002, Pages 226~236
In this paper, we present the channel assignment and management methods for an efficient use of traffic channel resource for supporting 12.2 Kbps, 64 Kbps, and 384 Kbps traffic with the different quality of service (QoS) in the radio network controller (RNC) in asynchronous IMT-2000 system. We first describe two types of traffic channel block assignments for utilizing the traffic channel efficiently; the partially dedicated and partially shared channel (PDPSC) assignment and the completely shared channel (CSC) assignment. The former is that some traffic channel block is completely assigned to each traffic type and the other blocks are shared with some traffic type. The latter is that all traffic channel blocks are completely shared with all traffic types. Further, for efficiently assigning, releasing, and managing the channel resource, we present the traffic channel management method which consists of the block and task management step. Through numerical examples, we evaluate the blocking probability and the mean number of required search for fading the available channel when applying our proposed channel block assignment and resource management methods.
Channel Estimation Schemes of W-CDMA TDD Mode Employing Multi-User Detector
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 27, issue 3B, 2002, Pages 237~243
This paper studies the channel estimation schemes of Time Division Duplex (TDD) Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) system with a parallel interference canceller (PIC) in multi-path fading channels. furthermore, the effective interpolation method which maintains the flexibility of UTRA TDD mode is proposed. By Monte Carlo simulations, it is verified that the proposed interpolation method can be used in order to obtain the proper performance of a multi-stage PIC and in order to reduce the required Eb/No for a given bit error rate (BER).
Electromagnetic Wave Scattering from a Perfectly Conducting Random Rough Surface with Considering the Edge Effect
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 27, issue 3B, 2002, Pages 244~250
In this paper, rile scattered field from a random rough perfectly conducting surface by method of moment(MoM) was computed. A one-dimensional random rough surface predetermined statistical properties was generated by a digital computer. The number of surface realization for the computed field and the width of surface realization are set to be 100, 80 λ, respectively. To eliminate the scattering from the ends of the surface, the Gaussian taper function is used. Using Monte Carlo technique, we calculated hi-static scattering and back scattering coefficient. In order to verify the result by MoM we compare the MoM results with those of Kirchhoff approximations, which show good agreement between them.
Performance Analysis of Convolution Coded Multicarrier DS/CDMA Systems
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 27, issue 3B, 2002, Pages 251~258
In this paper, an adaptive convolutional coding method in multicarrier direct sequence code division multiple access (DS/CDMA) systems is considered. In order to accommodate a number of coding rates easily and make the encoder and decoder structure simple, we use the rate compatible punctured convolutional (RCPC) code. To achieve maximum data throughput, an adaptive rate system based on the channel state information (the SINR estimate) is proposed. We show that the proposed adaptive rate convolution coded multicarrier DS/CDMA systems can enhance spectral efficiency and provide frequency diversity.

The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 27, issue 3B, 2002, Pages 259~266
In the CDMA system, the Multiple access interference(MAI) causes system performance and capacity degradation. One of the MAI cancel method is a feedback detector that orthogonal decision-feedback detector(ODFD) and Deocrrelating decision-feedback detector(DDFD) have been studied by now. In this paper, we propose a blind adaptive ODFD(BA-ODFD) with blind equalizer combined ODFD, Also we simulate the operation of BA-ODFD in AWGN channel and Rayleigh (tiding channel. and compare blind adaptive ODFD with blind adaptive DDFD.

The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 27, issue 3B, 2002, Pages 267~274
In this paper, the real-time color pattern recognition system is experimented by optical approach using the SLM(TH LCD) and a photorefractive material. In the implemented system, the character patterns to recognize are controlled of an SLM, and a 10mm thick LiNbO
crystal having high angular selectivity and photorefractive effect is used for recording materials. The shape and color informations of the red or green color patterns are excellently discriminated at independent positions by real-time processing, as the results obtained by proposed optical architecture.
