Performance Analysis of ZFE MUD Receiver in 2.4㎓ DSSS Unidirectional Wireless Transceiver

In this paper, We analyze performance of ZFE MUD receiver in DSSS unidirectional wireless transceiver operating in 2.4㎓ ISM band and indoor environment. This system has the shortcomings that many burst error is occurred because of long term deep fade experienced by some user and impossibility of power control. Therefore, the solution to this problem is important because the performance of DS-CDMA system is guaranteed under, the perfect power control. MUD receive. which improves the performance of this system is not required to perform rigorous power control and is able to remove MAI using linear equalization. From the result of performance comparison, we show that ZFE MUD receiver is more adequate for this system than other receivers.
A Differential Index Assignment Scheme for Tree-Structured Vector Quantization

A differential index assignment scheme is proposed for the image encoding system in which a variable-length tree-structured vector quantizer is adopted. Each source vector is quantized into a terminal node of VLTSVQ and each terminal node is represented as a unique binary vector. The proposed index assignment scheme utilizes the correlation between interblocks of the image to increase the compression ratio with the image quality maintained. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves a much higher compression ratio than the conventional one does and that the amount of the bit rate reduction of the proposed scheme becomes large as the correlation of the image becomes large. The proposed encoding scheme can be effectively used to encode R images whose pixel values we, in general, highly correlated with those of the neighbor pixels.
A Study on the Multiresolution Motion Estimation Adequate to Low-Band-Shift Method in Wavelet Domain

In this paper, we propose a Multiresolution Motion Estimation(MRME) adapted to Low-Band-Shift(LBS) method in wavelet domain. To overcome shift-variant property on wavelet coefficients, the LBS was previously proposed. This method which is applied to reference frame in video coding technique, has superior performance in terms of rate-distortion characteristic. However, this method needs more memory and computational complexity. In this paper, The computational complexity of the proposed method(LBS-MRME) is about 15.6% of that of existing method at 3-level wavelet transform. And although it has about 7 times as much as existing method's motion vector since each subband has different motion vector, it decreases motion compensated prediction error by detailed motion estimation, and then has better efficient coding performance. The experimental results with the proposed method showed about 0.3∼11.6% improvement of MAD performance in case of lossless coding, and 0.3∼3.0㏈ improvement of PSNR performance at the same bit rate in case of lossy coding.
Block-based Disparity Estimation Algorithm Using Edge information

In this paper, we propose a new disparity estimation method called object based block matching algorithm(OBMA) for stereoscopic images which is able to reduce the blocking artifact. In the proposed algorithm, edge information of the given image is first extracted and then we estimate the disparity of each segmented object to remove the blocking artifact. In the experimental results, it is proven that the proposed algorithm has about the same performance as the old BMA algorithm while it achieves much better subjective quality.
A Study on the Development of a Multi-Path Communication Channel Equalizer

This paper is a result of the study that develops ghost eliminator which removes ghost among the ghosted analog or digital TV signal. We proposed innovative multilevel SIGN algorithm which is operated more stable and speedy than conventional LMS or SIGN algorithm. We compared its convergence speed with SIGN algorithm by experiment. We can eliminate ghost more speedy and stable than conventional method by using the multi-level SIGN algorithm which is presented in this paper. Multi-level SIGN algorithm can be used in any other applications instead of LMS or SIGN algorithm for stability and speed.
A Search Range Decision Algorithm For Motion Vector Estimation

In this paper, we propose an adaptive search range decision algorithm for motion vector estimation in video coding. The performance of general motion estimation method in video coding mechanism is evaluated with respect to the motion vector accuracy and the complexity, which is trade-off. The proposed algorithm that plays as a role of pre-processing for motion vector estimation determines the motion search range by the local statistics of motion vector of neighboring blocks, resulting in more than 60(%) reduction of the computational cost without the loss of visual quality. Experimental results show the capability of the proposed algorithm.
Video object segmentation and frame preprocessing for real-time and high compression MPEG-4 encoding

Video object segmentation is one of the core technologies for content-based real-time MPEG-4 encoding system. For real-time requirement, the segmentation algorithm should be fast and accurate but almost all existing algorithms are computationally intensive and not suitable for real-time applications. The MPEG-4 VM(Verification Model) has provided basic algorithms for MPEG-4 encoding but it has many limitations in practical software development, real-time camera input system and compression efficiency. In this paper, we implemented the preprocessing system for real-time camera input and VOP extraction for content-based video coding and also implemented motion detection to achieve the 180 : 1 compression rate for real-time and high compression MPEG-4 encoding.
A Study on an Inductive Motion Edit Methodology using a Uniform Posture Map

It is difficult to reuse the captured motion data, because the data has a difficulty in editing it. In this paper, a uniform posture mar (UPM) algorithm, one of unsupervised learning neural network is proposed to edit the captured motion data. Because it needs much less computational cost than other motion editing algorithms, it is adequate to apply in teal-time applications. The UPM algorithm prevents from generating an unreal posture in learning phase. It not only makes more realistic motion curves, but also contributes to making more natural motions. Above of all, it complements the weakness of the existing algorithm where the calculation quantity increases in proportion to increase the number of restricted condition to solve the problems of high order articulated body. In this paper, it is shown two applications as a visible the application instance of UPM algorithm. One is a motion transition editing system, the other is a inductive inverse kinematics system. This method could be applied to produce 3D character animation based on key frame method, 3D game, and virtual reality, etc.
A New Change Detection Method Based on Macro Block Unit for Selective Video Coding

This paper propose a new change detection algorithm based on macro block unit for selective video coding scheme. The conventional method badly decides a macro block of unchanged region into a changed macro block due to a noise of the difference images. To solve the problem of the conventional method, we propose a new test statistic which is robust to the noise of the difference image. As shown in experimental results(Fig. 1∼3), the proposed algorithm shows more accurate segmentation results than the conventional method. Also, because the proposed detection method reduces the average numbers of changed macro block per frame to 55∼60% than the conventional method, it can improve the performance of the selective video coding at lower bit rates.
Blind Equalization with Arbitrary Decision Delay using One-Step Forward Prediction Error Filters

Blind equalization of communication channel is important because it does not need training signal, nor does it require a priori channel information. So, we can increase the bandwidth efficiency. The linear prediction error method is perhaps the most attractive in practice due to the insensitive to blind channel equalizer length mismatch as well as for its simple adaptive implementation. Unfortunately, the previous one-step prediction error method is known to be limited in arbitrary decision delay. In this paper, we propose method for fractionally spaced blind equalizer with arbitrary decision delay using one-step forward prediction error filter from second-order statistics of the received signals for SIMO channel. Our algorithm utilizes the forward prediction error as training signal and computes the best decision delay from all possible decision delay. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the performance of our proposed algorithm.
Motion Estimation and Compensation using hierarchical triangulation

In this paper, we propose a motion estimation method using hierarchical triangulation that changes the triangular mesh structure according to it's motion activity. The subdivision of triangular mesh is performed from the amount of motion that is calculated from the variance of image difference. As a result, node distribution is concentrated on the region of high activity. The subdivision method that makes it possible to yield hierarchical triangular mesh is proposed as well as the additional information reduction coding method for hierarchical mesh structure is described. By the simulation, proposed method have better performance than the conventional BMA(Block Match Algorithm) and the other mesh based method.
Error Concealment based on Extended Block Matching using Gradient Difference

The error concealment is very useful technique for real-time communication, such as video conference. In this paper. we propose the error concealment technique to minimize discontinuity of block boundary in consideration of the fact that human visual system is sensitive to discontinuity. The error concealment for each loss block is performed by extended block matching method based on gradient difference. In the simulation result, performance improvement for the proposed technique is on the average 1.32㏈ in comparison with the conventional technique.
