Fault Management in Multichannel ATM Switches
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 28, issue 8A, 2003, Pages 569~580
One of the important advantages of multichannel switches is the incorporation of inherent fault tolerance into the switching fabric. For example, if a link which belongs to the multichannel group fails, the remaining links can assume responsibility for some of the traffic on the failed link. On the other hand, if faults occur in the switching elements, it can lead to erroneous routing and sequencing in the multichannel switch. We investigate several fault localization algorithms in multichannel crossbar ATM switches with a view to early fault recovery, The optimal algorithm gives the best performance in terms of time to localization but is computationally complex which makes it difficult to implement. We develop an on-line algorithm which is computationally mote efficient than the optimal algorithm. We evaluate its performance through simulation. The simulation results show that performance of the on line algorithm is only slightly sub-optimal for both random and bursty traffic. Finally a fault recovery algorithm is described which utilizes the information provided by the fault localization algorithm.
A Point-to-Multipoint Routing Path Selection Algorithm for Dynamic Routing Based ATM Network
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 28, issue 8A, 2003, Pages 581~590
This paper proposes the routing path selection mechanism for source routing-based PtMP (Point-to-Multipoint) call in ATM switching system. Especially, it suggests PtMP routing path selection method that can share the maximum resource prior to the optimal path selection, guarantee the reduction of path calculation time and cycle prevention. The searching for the nearest branch point from destination node to make the maximum share of resource is the purpose of this algorithm. Therefore among neighbor nodes from destination node by back-tracking, this algorithm fixes the node crossing first the node on existing path having the same Call ID as branch node, constructs the optimal PtMP routing path. The optimal node to be selected by back-tracking is selected by the use of Dijkstra algorithm. That is to say, PtMP routing path selection performs the step of cross node selection among neighboring nodes by back-tracking and the step of optimal node selection(optimal path calculation) among neighboring nodes by back-tracking. This technique reduces the process of search of routing information table for path selection and path calculation, also solves the cycle prevention easily during path establishment.
Design of a compact and broadband PIFA using an additive short-circuit plate
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 28, issue 8A, 2003, Pages 591~597
In this paper, a compact and broadband PIFA(Planar Inverted F Antenna) which has an additive short-circuit plate along the patch length was designed. For more compact PIFA short-circuit Plate along the patch width is reduced and an additive short-circuit plate along the patch length is used to broaden the bandwidth. The effect of an additive-short-circuit plate along the patch length was verified in single band PIFA and also verified in dual-band PIFA. The commercial software, IE3D, was used to design a PIFA and its performance was verified by comparing simulated results with measurement results.
Performance Analysis of PCM Cell Search Algorithm for Fast Cell Search in WCDMA Systems
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 28, issue 8A, 2003, Pages 598~606
In this paper, we analyze the performance of the PCM cell search algorithm proposed for fast cell search of WCDMA systems. In order to improve both performance and complexity of the cell search algorithm standardized for WCDMA systems the PCM scheme uses a group of the polarization codes produced by a Gold code generator. The PCM scheme only uses one synchronization channel since the polarization codes modulated on P-SCH can replace the RS codes of S-SCH. Thus, the PCM reduces the BS's transmission power since only one synchronization channel can be used, and it can also reduce the complexity of receiver as compared with the conventional one. In this paper, by defining a numerical model, we analyze the performance of the PCM cell search algorithm in terms of detection probability and mean acquisition time. Consequently, we could demonstrate that the PCM cell search algorithm is superior to the standard WCDMA cell search algorithm.

0.53mm. The measured characteristics of the BPF show the center frequency of 5.8GHz, bandwidth of 200㎒, insertion loss of 2.326㏈ and return loss of 13.679㏈. In addition, the attenuation is 28.052㏈ at 4.7GHz.
Traffic-Adaptive Dynamic Integrated Scheduling Using Rendezvous Window md Sniff Mode
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 28, issue 8A, 2003, Pages 613~619
Bluetooth is a communication technology enabling short-range devices to be wirelessly connected. A master and one or more slave devices are connected to form a piconet, and piconets are joined to form a scatternet. The units participating in two or more piconets in a scatternet, is called bridge or gateway nodes. In order to operate the scatternet efficiently, both piconet scheduling for the master and slaves of a piconet, and scatternet scheduling for the bridge nodes are playing important roles. In this paper, we propose a traffic-adaptive dynamic scatternet scheduling algorithm based on rendezvous points and rendezvous windows. The performance of the proposed algorithm is compared and analyzed with that of a static scheduling algorithm via simulations. Simulation results show that our algorithm can distribute wireless resources efficiently to bridge nodes depending on the traffic characteristics.
Coplanar Waveguide Bandpass Filter Using the Folded-line Stepped- Impedance Restorator
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 28, issue 8A, 2003, Pages 620~625
The coplanar waveguide bandpass filter using folded-line stepped-impedance resonators(SIRs) is proposed. The folded-line SIR has about λ/8 length using the short-circuited end on coplanar waveguide. It make that the bandpass filter has the half size in comparison with general λ/4 SIR filter. In this paper, we derive the equivalent circuit and design the bandpass filter by using that. We design and fabricate the bandpass filter which has 5 GHz center frequency and 3 % fractional bandwidth. The measurement results fur 4-pole folded SIR bandpass filter agreed well with full-wave simulation and equivalent circuit results. The fabricated bandpass filter has a good spurious characteristic, which the harmonic frequency appeared at 2.5f

Design and Fabrication of Forward -3㏈ Directional Coupler Using Asymmetrical Coupled Lines with Mentalization Thickness
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 28, issue 8A, 2003, Pages 626~632
In this paper, forward-wave -3㏈ directional coupler with finite-thickness conductor and asymmetrical coupled lines are designed and experimentally verified using mode-matching based design methodology. Most of studies published in the literatures about the coupled lines are mainly concentrated on the adjustment of coupling amount by changing various geometric configurations. The analysis results in this paper show that thicker metalization requires reduced coupler length in the forward-wave directional coupler composed of asymmetrical coupled lines. Several forward-wave directional -3 ㏈ couplers with finite metalization thickness composed of asymmetrical coupled microstrip lines have been designed in the 5 ㎓ based on proposed design method. The measured data show -4.05㏈∼-4.09㏈ coupling at center frequency which is very closed to design value. The tight coupling has been implemented with accurate design methodology which take mentalization thickness into account.
Performance Analysis of M-ary PPM UWB Suitable to FCC Signal Spectrum
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 28, issue 8A, 2003, Pages 633~643
UWB impulse radio signals have an very short duration, extremely wide bandwidth and share the same frequency spectrum with other existing systems. It was determined by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that UWB systems could cause interference with other systems, such as Global Positioning System (GPS) for example. Therefore, at present. the FCC has restricted the use of UWB systems to frequencies above 3.1㎓. In this paper, We evaluated performance of UWB system using proposed pulses in ［1］［2］ that are strictly limited in time to remove interference while, at the same time, contain their power distribution to a frequency band from 3.1㎓ to 10.6㎓. In particular, We evaluated the BER Performance in relation to system parameters such as pulse duration.
, the number of users. Nu. and the number of symbols, M. We found the optimal pulse duration
through computer simulation using developed UWB pulses in ［1］［2］. It is shown that performance evaluation between the UWB communication system using these UWB pulses ［1］［2］and the Gaussian monocycle pulse in M-ary PPM and BPSK schemes. These results can be contributed to construct M-ary PPM UWB communication system in terms of multiuser parameters and pulse duration.

In 1995, a group of representatives from the integrated circuits and computer-aided design industries presented a industry standard bipolar model called the VBIC model. The VBIC model includes the improved Early effect, quasi-saturation, substrate parasitic, avalanche multiplication, and self-heating which are not available in the conventional SGP model. This paper applies VBIC model for SiGe HBT device and develops an accurate and efficient methodology to extract all the DC and AC parameters of the VBIC model for SiGe HBT device at room temperature. Simulated results by the extracted VBIC model parameter are compared with the measurement data and show very good agreement in both DC and s-parameters prediction.
Optical performance monitoring in 16CH WDM system, using FFP-TF
The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 28, issue 8A, 2003, Pages 657~662
The OPM(optical performance monitoring module) is needed in order to monitor optical performance. the most importance of OPM is to measure the wavelength of optical signal. In the past time, it was very difficult to get the wavelength value because they used pilot tone. Since then, using AWG(arrayed waveguide grating) and AOTF(acousto optic tuneable filter), the wavelength and the transmission qualify for multi channel signal have been monitored. In this paper, we chose the fiber fabry-perot wavelength variable filter which be evaluated for optical resolution ability to excellent, so that FBG(fiber bragg grating) was used for setting reference wavelength because chose a wavelength variable filter.
