A frequency Domain based High Resolution Positioning Method using Low Rate ADC in LR-WPAN

Ultra-wideband communication systems for impulse radio have merits that are possible for either high resolution ranging system or radio determination. Conventionally, in order to accomplish these functions, the rapid analog to digital convertor (ADC) is necessary to apply radio determination system operating in time domain. However, considering that low rate - wireless personal area network (LR-WPAN) aims to low-cost hardware implementation, the expensive ADC converting GHz sampling per second is not appropriate. So, this paper introduces the high resolution ranging system operating in frequency domain with using low sampling rate ADC, and a new non-coherent ranging scheme utilizing analog Frequency Modulation (FM) mode for the frequency domain transformation. To verify the superiority of the proposed ranging algorithm working in frequency domain, the suggested IEEE 802.15.4a TG channel model is used to exploit affirmative features of the proposed algorithm with conducting the simulation results.
A New Construction Method of Quaternary LCZ Sequence Set

In this paper, for even integer N, we propose a new construction method of quaternary low correlation zone(LCZ) sequence set from a binary LCZ sequence set with parameters (N,M,L,
). Proposed method applies the inverse gray mapping from Krone and Sarwate to binary LCZ sequences and their phase shifts. The only needed condition of binary LCZ sequence set used in this construction is even period.
Quaternary Sequence with Maximum Autocorrelation of 3

In this paper, we propose a quaternary sequence with good autocorrelation property. New quaternary sequence is generated by using inverse Gray mapping and binary sequence with ideal autocorrelation. And the maximum magnitude of nontrivial correlation value is 3. Proposed quaternary sequence has only one 1 in one period, so called almost binary sequence. Therefore the balance property is not good, but value of its weight function is nearly 0.
Two-Dimensional Non-isolated Pixel Modulation Code for Holographic Data Storage

In this paper, a two-dimensional (2D) modulation code is introduced. The proposed code does not have any isolated pixel that is the most unwanted problem for holographic data storage. The proposed 2D modulation code is simpler than conventional 6/8 code and removes all the isolated 2D ISI patterns. As a result, when the grade of blur is 1.4, the proposed modulation code has better performance overall than conventional 6/8 modulation code. The proposed code has the optimal performance when 4bit quantization is applied.
Construction Method of Binary Low Correlation Zone Sequence Set Using Gray Mapping

In this paper, we propose a new construction method of binary low correlation zone (LCZ) sequence set. New construction method applies Gray mapping to conventional quaternary LCZ sequence set that has specific property. The period of new binary sequence set is twice as that of used sequence set in construction, and maximum magnitude of correlation value within the LCZ and cardinality of new set is also twice as those of used quaternary sequence set. But the LCZ size is the same with that of used sequence set. If the used Quaternary sequence set is optimal, the constructed binary sequence set is optimal with high probability.
SISO-RLL Decoding Algorithm of 17PP Modulation Code for High Density Optical Recording Channel

When we apply the LDPC code for high density optical storage channel, it is necessary to make an algorithm that the modulation code decoder must feed the LDPC decoder soft-valued information because LDPC decoder exploits soft values using the soft input. Therefore, we propose the soft-input soft-output run-length limited 17PP decoding algorithm and compare performance of LDPC codes. Consequently, we found that the proposed soft-input soft-output decoding algorithm using 17PP is 0.8dB better than the soft-input soft-output decoding algorithm using (1, 7) RLL.
Vector Quantization of Reference Signals for Efficient Frame-Based Classification of Underwater Transient Signals

When we classify underwater transient signals with frame-by-frame decision, a database design method for reference feature vectors influences on the system performance such as size of database, computational burden and recognition rate. In this paper the LBG vector quantization algorithm is applied to reduction of the number of feature vectors for each reference signal for efficient classification of underwater transient signals. Experimental results have shown that drastic reduction of the database size can be achieved while maintaining the classification performance by using the LBG vector quantization.
Efficient Compression Technique of Multi-view Image with Color and Depth Information by Layered Depth Image Representation

Multi-view video is necessary to develop a new compression encoding technique for storage and transmission, because of a huge amount of data. Layered depth image is an efficient representation method of multi-view video data. This method makes a data structure that is synthesis of multi-view color and depth image. This paper proposed enhanced compression method by presentation of efficient layered depth image using real distance comparison, solution of overlap problem, and YCrCb color transformation. In experimental results, confirmed high compression performance and good reconstructed image.
Face Detection Using Geometrical Information of Face and Hair Region

This paper proposes a face detection algorithm that uses geometrical information on face and hair region. This information that face adjoins hair regions can be the important one for face detection. It is also kept in images with frontal, rotated and lateral face. The face candidates are founded by the analysis of skin regions after detecting the skin and hair color regions in an image. Next, the intersected lesions between face candidates and hair's are created. Finally, the face candidates that include the subsets of these regions turn out to be face. Experimental results showed the high detection rates for frontal and lateral faces as well as faces geometrically distorted.
A Macroblock-Layer Rate Control with Adaptive Quantization Parameter Decision and Header Bits Length Estimation

A macroblock layer rate control for H.264/AVC has the problem that allocated target bits for current frame occasionally are exhausted too fast due to inadequate quantization parameter assignment. In this case, the maximum permissible quantization parameter is used to encode for remaining macroblocks and it leads to degradation of the visual quality. In addition, the header bits length estimation algorithm used for quantization parameter assignment takes the average header bits length for the encoded macroblocks of the previous frame and the current frame. Therefore, it generates a big mismatch between the actually generated header bits length and the estimated header bits length. In this paper, we propose adaptive quantization parameter decision method to prevent early exhausting target bits during encoding the current frame by considering the number of macroblocks that have negative targets bits in previous frame and the improved header bits length estimation scheme for accurate quantization parameter decision.
A Digital Up-Down Conversion for Wibro Repeater using IIR Filters having Almost Linear Phase Response

The repeater for wireless broadband internet (Wibro) system using OFDM demands the short processing delay to eliminate inter-symbol interference resulted from the time delay greater than the guard time. Towards this, the total system delay of repeater is expected to be minimized as possible as it can without distorting signal quality. In general, the FIR-type of filter is commonly deployed as a channelization filter, but due to its large amount of coefficients for producing prerequisite filter response the excessive large time delay occurs. To withstand this problem, the paper proposes the method for designing IIR filter whose response almost identical to that of the original filter. Moreover, in order to linearize the phase response of the designed IIR filter, this paper also introduce the way of designing the all-pass filter to be cascaded works for linearizing phase response of the channelization as well as the de-channelization filter. To achieve the further improvement in linearization of the phase response and reduction of the overall complexity, this paper tries to transform the integrated IIR filter group into the structure in polyphase style. The computer simulation verifies that the integrated IIR filter group designed in this paper reveals the relatively short processing delay without harming the acceptible signal quality.
A Tone Injection PAPR Reduction Method using Multi-objective Optimization based on Weighted-sum Genetic Algorithm

Tone injection scheme has been known as one of peak to average power ratio (PAPR) reduction methods deployable to multi-carrier system like orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). The basic idea in tone injection scheme is to enforce the constellation size larger so that each of original constellation points is mapped into the preassigned distinct locations. According to the tone injection scheme, it increases symbol power highly induced inherently by expanding constellation to get optimal PAPR reduction. In the other hand, to get optimal power increase, the PAPR would be reduced insufficiently with limited tone injection signal. To withstand these problems, this paper consider the reduction of the PAPR and power increase problem simultaneously, Toward this, the tone injection scheme accomplished by employing the weighted sum genetic algorithm which has been utilized to solve multi-objective optimization problem (MOOP). The simulation results verifies that the proposed scheme can control the effective PAPR performance and alleviation of power increase flexibly by the weight value at the expense of relatively low complexity.
A Novel OFDM frequency Offset Estimation Algorithm Using a Periodogram

A novel frequency offset estimation scheme using a periodogram is proposed for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OfDM) systems. A conventional scheme proposed by Ren has a problem that the fractional and residual frequency offset estimation steps do not compensate for the difference between the real frequency offset and estimated integer frequency offset in the noise channel. So, the frequency offset estimation performance of Ren's scheme is degraded. In this paper, a frequency offset estimation scheme is proposed, which has a larger estimation range than that of the factional and residual frequency offset estimation steps in Ren's scheme. The proposed scheme can compensate for the difference between the real frequency offset and estimated integer frequency offset, unlike Ren's scheme. From the simulation results, we can observe that the performance of the proposed scheme is better than that of Ren's scheme.
Decision-directed channel estimation in TETRA system

TETRA Enhanced Data Service (TEDS), which is an upgrade version of narrow-band ETSI TETRA Release 1 system, can support high speed packet data services in frequency selected fading channel. The performance of M-QAM transceivers employed in the TEDS is significantly affected by the accuracy of channel estimation. In this paper, we consider the design of a decision-directed channel estimation scheme robust to fast fading by estimating the channel by means of a per-survivor processing (PSP) method. The performance of the proposed channel estimation scheme is verified by computer simulation.
