A Hardware ORB for Supporting the SCA-based Component Development in FPGA

SCA is proposed in order to operate various wireless systems in the single terminal platforms and uses the CORBA middleware to guarantee the platform-independence for software components. As the reconstruction demand is expanded in the software component to the logic level to many reasons, CORBA has to guarantee the independence of hardware on board. Accordingly. the characteristics depending on hardware board is ed. And the IDL-based interworking interface about the component has to be provided. In this paper, we described about local transport for guaranteeing the independency on the hardware board and the HAO Core for providing a coupling by the CORBA IDL identically with the other component. HAO produced at 2,900 logic cell size in average and provided the performance of the tens times than the software component. Through the use of HAO in the SCA-based development environment, it was naturally expanded to not only the software area but also the FPGA logic.
A Linear Precoding Technique for OFDM Systems with Cyclic Delay Diversity

Cyclic delay diversity (CDD) is considered a simple approach to exploit the frequency diversity, to improve the system performance in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. Also, the linear preceding technique can significantly improve the performance of communication systems by exploiting the channel state in formation (CSI). In order to achieve enhanced performance, we propose applying linear preceding to the conventional CDD-OFDM transmit diversity schemes over Rayleigh fading channels. The proposed scheme works effectively with the accurate CSI in time-division-duplex (TDD) OFDM systems with CDD, where the reciprocity is ass umed instead of channel state feedback. For a BER of
and the mobility of 3 km/h, simulation results show that a gain of 6 dB is achieved by the proposed scheme over both flat fading and Pedestrian A (Ped A) channels, compared to the conventional CDD-OFDM system. On the other hand, for a mobility of 120 km/h, a gain of 2.7 dB and 3.8 dB is achieved in flat fading and Vehicular A (Veh A) channels, respectively.
A Robust Coherent IR-UWB Channel Estimation Method Against Imperfect Synchronization

A novel channel estimation scheme is proposed for coherent Impulse Radio Ultra Wideband (IR-UWB) system based on IEEE 802.15.4a specification. By extracting and utilizing the information on the frequency synchronization, the proposed channel estimation algorithm improves the receiver performance even under the restricted number of preamble symbols in IEEE 802.15.4a signal format. Simulation results over the IEEE 802.15.4a channel models show the performance gain with the proposed algorithm compared to ordinary channel estimation method.
A Cooperative Hybrid ARQ Scheme with Adaptive Retransmission

Cooperative diversity is a promising technique for range extension and diversity increase without the use of multiple transmit antennas at the user equipment. In this paper, we propose a cooperative hybrid automatic repeat request relay method with adaptive retransmission to increase the throughput when the SNR of a source user is low. In the proposed method, the source user transmits the first segment of a codeword to relay users and a base station. If the base station fails to recover the information from the received packet, it requests the source or some relay users to retransmit the packet previously sent. In addition, the retransmission type of a selected user is chosen from repetition or incremental redundancy according to the quality of systematic bits in a turbo codeword. Simulation results show that the proposed method improves the throughput compared to conventional methods, and the improvement is significant when the source user has a low SNR.
Adaptive Resource Allocation for Efficient Power Control Game in Wireless Networks

We consider distributed resource allocation among the links in a wireless network to minimize the total transmit power of the network while meeting the target rate required by each link. The problem to be solved is how to change the amount of wireless resource allocated and the number of links sharing the resource according to the interference environment so that the following distributed power control game converges to a stable point. To provide a distributed method with less complexity and lower information exchange than the centralized optimal method, we define the resource sharing level among the links from which the size of resource allocated and the links sharing the resource are determined distributively. It is shown that the performance of the proposed method is better than that of the conventional methods, orthogonal resource allocation only and resource sharing only, as well as it approaches to that of the optimal method.
A Decision Scheme of Amount of Required Resources for Adaptive Resource Reuse in Wireless Multi-hop Systems

In this paper, we propose a decision scheme of amount of required resources in wireless multi-hop systems which can reuse radio resources adaptively among relay stations (RSs). Base stations (BSs) can allocate resources dynamically based on amount of required resources of each RS. Moreover using resource reuse with this allocation method can increase amount of available resources in multi-hop systems. Generally, BSs allocate same amount of resources for RSs which share and reuses same resources for each other. Since amount of required resources are different among these RSs, a decision scheme of a specific value which can represent various required resources of RSs is needed. We propose this scheme which can decide the representative value of required resources of RSs adaptively based on the amount of required resources and the buffer state of each RS. Our simulation results show that the proposed scheme can increase performance of a multi-hop system. System capacity with the proposed adaptive scheme is increased by twice as large as one with a fixed representation value.
Efficient Cognitive and Cooperative Communication Scheme for Multiuser OFDMA Systems using Relays

In this paper, we investigate the cognitive and cooperative communication scheme to improve the spectral efficiency in multiuser OFDMA systems using wireless relays. First, we propose the frame structure in which the efficient frequency reuse scheme with the cognitive technique is performed to increase the system throughput. And in the case where the THP (Tomlinson-Harashima preceding) is used for the elimination of interference from the relay, we derive the effective signal to noise ratio of the link largely affected by the channel quantization error. From the system level simulation results, it is shown that the proposed cognitive and cooperative communication scheme increases the overall system performance including the feedback overhead.
Opportunistic Packet Scheduling Method Considering QoS Requirement in MMR

We analysed the opportunistic scheduling method in MMR proposed by Samsung Electronic Cooperation and confirmed the efficiency by simulation. We also investigated the relationship between the throughput and fairness under the proposed method. The main objective of this study is to propose an opportunistic packet scheduling method in MMR, which considers the QoS requirement of user. Using the simulation the performance of the proposed method is compared with those of i) pure opportunistic packet scheduling method which doesn't consider QoS requirement and ii) packet scheduling method which only consider the QoS requirement, but does not utilize opportunistic packet scheduling.
An Efficient Cooperative Diversity Scheme for Mobile Satellite Broadcasting Services

In this paper, we propose an efficient cooperative diversity scheme for mobile satellite multimedia broadcasting services. The proposed scheme is a transmit diversity technique to adapt time varying channel conditions, and we do not need any channel quality information from the return link. In the proposed scheme, we utilize space-time block coding (STBC) and rate compatible turbo codes in order to realize the transmit diversity for the mobile satellite system with several repeaters. The satellite and several repeaters operate in unison to send the encoded signals, so that the receiver may realize diversity gain. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme can provide highly improved performance.
Design of an Efficient Initial Frequency Estimator based on Data-Aided algorithm for DVB-S2 system

This paper proposes an efficient initial frequency estimator for Digital Video Broadcasting-Second Generation (DVB-S2). The initial frequency offset of the DVB-S2 is around
, which corresponds to 20% of the symbol rate at 25Msps. To estimate a large initial frequency offset, the algorithm which call provide a large estimation range is required. Through the analysis of the data-aided (DA) algorithms, we find that the Mengali and Moreli (M&M) algorithm can estimate a large initial frequency offset at low SNR. Since the existing frequency estimator based on M&M algorithm has a high hardware complexity, we propose the methods to reduce the hardware complexity of the initial frequency estimator. This can be achieved by reducing the number of autocorrelators and arctangents. The proposed architecture can reduce the hardware complexity about 64.5% compared to the existing frequency estimator and has been thoroughly verified on the Xilinx Virtex II FPGA board.
An Effective Selection of white Gaussian Noise Sub-band using Singular Value Decomposition

Measurement of the background radio noise is very important process being used in survey of radio noise environment, calculating the threshold level for the frequency occupancy measurement and so forth. First step of background radio noise measurement is to select the sample sub-band which is mostly dominated by the background white Gaussian noise (WGN) within the target band. The second step is to carry out the main measurement of radio noise on this selected sample sub-band for the representative value of the noise power. In this paper, a method for selection of sample sub-band for the effective background radio noise measurement using SVD is proposed under the assumption that background radio noise is WGN. The performance of the proposed method is compared with that of the APD method which is widely used for the same purpose. Simulation results are shown to demonstrate the high performance of the proposed method in comparison with the existing APD method.
Transmit Power and Subcarrier Allocation Schemes for Downlink OFDM Systems with Multiple Relays

Wireless relay attracts great attention as a core technology of next generation wireless communication systems since it enables reliable communications and extends cell coverage by supporting shadowed users. In this paper, we Propose transmit power and subcarrier allocation scheme for downlink OFDM systems with multiple decode and forward (DF) relays to increase data rate with fixed bit error rate (BER) and sum power constraint. In simulation results, average data rate based on the proposed schemes are evaluated and compared to that of the other schemes. It is also shown that the performance loss of the proposed scheme is negligible compared to the optimal scheme, while its computational complexity is reduced considerably.
