A Frequency Domain based Positioning Method using Auto Regressive Modeling in LR-WPAN

Ultra-wideband communication systems based on impulse radio have merits that are possible for the high data rate transmission, high resolution ranging are positioning system. Conventionally, in order to accomplish these features, the high-speed ADC (Analog to Digital Convertor) is necessary to apply radio determination system operating in time domain. However, considering low rate - wireless personal area network (LR-WPAN) aims to low-cost hardware implementation, the expensive ADC converting GHz sampling per second is not appropriate. So, this paper introduces a low complex AR (Auto Regressive) model based non-coherent ranging scheme operating in frequency domain with using low-speed ADC utilizing analog Voltage Control Oscillator (VCO) mode for the frequency domain transformation. To verify the superiority of the proposed ranging and location algorithm working in frequency domain, the suggested IEEE 802.15.4a TG channel model is used to exploit affirmative features of the proposed algorithm with conducting the simulation results.
Reduced Complexity-and-Latency Variable-to-Check Residual Belief Propagation for LDPC Codes

This paper proposes some new improved versions of node-wise VCRBP algorithm for low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes, called forced-convergence node-wise VCRBP algorithm and sign based node-wise VCRBP, both of which significantly reduce the decoding complexity and latency, with only negligible deterioration in error correcting performance.
Attack and Solution on 3K-RFID Authentication Protocol

In 2005, Ko-Kim-Kwon pointed out Henrici-Muller's hash based RFID authentication protocol is insecure to location tracking attack, spoofing attack and Denial of Service attack. Then, they proposed a new RFID authentication protocol(3K-RFID) that can withstand these security problems. However, this paper shows that 3K-RFID authentication protocol is still not only vulnerable to spoofing attack and Denial of Service attack but also does not provide forward secrecy, and then proposes an improved secure I3K-RFID authentication protocol in order to resolve such problems.
Improved Global-Soft Decision Incorporating Second-Order Conditional MAP for Speech Enhancement

In this paper, we propose a novel method to improve the performance of the global soft decision which is based on the second-order conditional maximum a posteriori (CMAP). Conventional global soft decision scheme has an disadvantage in that the speech absence probability adjusted by a fixed-parameter was sensitive to the various noise environments. In proposed approach using the second-order CMAP, speech absence probability value is more flexible which exploit not only the current observation but also the speech activity decisions in the previous two frames. Experimental results show that the proposed improved global soft decision method based on second-order conditional MAP yields better results compared to the conventional global soft decision technique with the performance criteria of the ITU-T P. 862 perceptual evaluation of speech quality (PESQ).
Human Tracking and Body Silhouette Extraction System for Humanoid Robot

In this paper, we propose a new integrated computer vision system designed to track multiple human beings and extract their silhouette with an active stereo camera. The proposed system consists of three modules: detection, tracking and silhouette extraction. Detection was performed by camera ego-motion compensation and disparity segmentation. For tracking, we present an efficient mean shift based tracking method in which the tracking objects are characterized as disparity weighted color histograms. The silhouette was obtained by two-step segmentation. A trimap is estimated in advance and then this was effectively incorporated into the graph cut framework for fine segmentation. The proposed system was evaluated with respect to ground truth data and it was shown to detect and track multiple people very well and also produce high quality silhouettes. The proposed system can assist in gesture and gait recognition in field of Human-Robot Interaction (HRI).
HoloMarking: Digital Watermarking Method using Fresnel Hologram

This paper propose a digital watermarking method for digital contents which satisfies both the invisibility and the robustness to attacks to prohibit counterfeiting, modification, illegal usage and illegal re-production of video contents. This watermarking algorithm insert a watermark(digital hologram) by generated using Fresnel transform which improve the robustness. The inserting positions of the watermark choose by considering the frequency property of an image and a watermark. Also the amount of watermarking for watermark bit decide by considering the level of 2DDWT. This algorithm was implemented by C++ and experimented for invisibility and robustness with optical system. The experiment results showed that the method satisfied enough the invisibility of the inserted watermark and robustness against attacks. For the general attacks, the error rate of the extracted watermark was less than 15%, which is enough in robustness against the attacks.

Parallel Processing Architecture for Parity Checksum Generator Complying with ITU-T J.83 ANNEX B

This paper proposes a parallel architecture of a Parity Checksum Generator adopted for packet synchronization and error detection in the ITU-T Recommendation J.83 Annex B. The proposed parallel processing architecture removes a performance bottleneck occurred in a conventional serial processing architecture, leading to significant decrease in processing time for generating a Parity Checksum. The implementation results show that the proposed parallel processing architecture reduces the processing time by 83.1% at the expense of 16% area increase.
Development of Long-Range RFID Reader System supporting Sensor Tag

ISO/IEC/WD 24753 defines new modem specifications for a long-range RFID communications and application protocol for a sensor tag system. According to the standard, the frequency offset of the tag is 4%. In general wireless communications systems, it is known that a coherent receiver is superior to a non-coherent receiver. However, if the frequency offset is large, it is difficult to restore the original data accurately with a coherent receiver, and the performance of a coherent receiver is easily degraded. In this paper, a non-coherent receiver structure is adopted to solve the frequency offset problem of long-range RFID communications. We designed a frequency estimation block to find an optimal frequency from the received signal with 4% frequency offset and proposed a start frame delimiter (SFD) detection algorithm to determine the start position of the payload. The frequency estimation block finds the optimal frequency from the received signal using 9-correlators. And the SFD detection block searches the received signal to find the start position of the payload with dual correlator. We implemented a long-range RFID reader with the proposed methods and evaluated its performance in a wired/wireless test network. The implemented long-range RFID reader showed more superior performance than the commercial RFID reader in terms of recognition range.
A Signal Detection Method based on the Double Detection for Spatially Multiplexed MIMO Systems

The goal of OSIC-series detection methods is to approach the ML performance with feasible complexity. However, since they sometimes suffer from the empty vector problem, they can not achieve the soft-output ML performance or many candidate vectors are required to achieve the soft-output ML performance. In this paper, we propose the novel detection method, which can generate the reliable soft-outputs without suffering from empty vector problem. The proposed detector can approach the near soft-output ML performance as well as hard-output. Further, the complexity study shows that the proposed detection method has the lowest complexity compared to the other detectors having the near ML performance.
Lattice Reduction Aided MIMO Detection using Seysen's Algorithm

In this paper, we use SA (Seysen's Algorithm) instead of LLL (Lenstra-Lenstra-Lovasz) to perform LRA (Lattice Reduction-Aided) detection. By using SA, the complexity of lattice reduction is reduced and the detection performance is improved Although the performance is improved using SA, there still exists a gap in the performance between SA-LRA and ML detection. To reduce the performance difference, we apply list of candidates scheme to SA-LRA. The list of candidates scheme finds a list of candidates. Then, the candidate with the smallest squared Euclidean distance is considered as the estimate of the transmitted signal. Simulation results show that the SA-LRA detection learn to quasi-ML performance. Moreover, the efficiency of the SA is shown to highly improve the channel matrix conditionality.
O-CDMA Code Acquisition Algorithm Based on Magnitude and Sign of Correlation Values

Mean acquisition time (MAT) is the most important performance measure for code acquisition systems, where a shorter MAT implies a better code acquisition performance. Keshavarzian and Salehi proposed the multiple-shift (MS) algorithm for code acquisition in optical code division multiple access (O-CDMA) systems. Performing two steps acquisition, the MS algorithm has a shorter MAT than that of the conventional serial-search (SS) algorithm. In this paper, we propose a rapid code acquisition algorithm for O-CDMA systems. By using an efficient combination of local signals, correlation value, and the sign of correlation value, the proposed algorithm can provide a shorter MAT compared with that of the MS algorithm. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm presents a shorter MAT than that of the MS algorithm.
Novel Integer Frequency Offset Detection Method for OFDM Systems

Recently, frequency offset estimation method for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing has been proposed by Ren et al. (REA). The method can estimate an frequency offset independently from training symbol structure. In REA method, however, the detection probability of integer frequency offset is varying according to fractional frequency offset. In this paper, we first analysis REA frequency offset estimation method, and define new detection criteria suitable for the method. Then, we propose efficient integer frequency offset estimation method based on the new detection criteria and maximum likelihood method. The proposed method still has the advantages of REA method, while overcome the drawback. The numerical results demonstrate that the proposed methods outperform the REA method, in terms of integer frequency offset detection probability.
