Design and Verification of PCS Transmitting and Receiving Module for 40/100 Gigabit-Ethernet

In this paper, we design the PCS(Physical Coding Sublayer) transmitting and receiving module for 400/1000 Ethernet and verify the performance of it through logic simulation. In this work, we defined each function module and internal/external control signals and implemented them using HDL programming language. We also designed 64B/66B encoding/decoding, scrambling/descrambling including operation mode, detection of invalid frames, and multi-lane based distribution/arrangement. It was simulated using ModelSim and verified in terms of the operation and timing according to input data. The simulation result shows that all designed modules in 400/100G Ethernet are correctly performed.
Performance Evaluation of DVB-C2 - The Standard for Next Generation Digital Cable Broadcasting

DVB-C2 is the next generation digital broadcasting standard which will replace the analog cable broadcasting. LDPC and BCH significantly increase performance of forward error correction and allows for the application of higher constellation. Additionally, DVB-C2 is based on OFDM instead of single-carrier modulation, which gives additional flexibility and robustness in typical cable channels. This paper will give an introduction to the DVB-C2 system and spectral efficiency of DVB-C2 compare with DVB-C. Finally, The the simulation which is using BICM and OFDM structure show the performance of the DVB-C2.
An Efficient Converter Placement in Wavelength-Routed WDM Networks with Sparse-Partial-Limited Wavelength Conversion

In this paper, we present a new analytical model that can precisely estimate the blocking performance of wavelength-routed WDM networks with sparse-partial-limited wavelength conversion (SPLWC). The proposed model accounts for the two sources of call blocking in a wavelength converter: range blocking originated from the limited conversion range of a wavelength converter; and capacity blocking induced from the limited number of wavelength converters. Based on the proposed model, we also present a new converter placement algorithm that minimizes the amount of wavelength conversion capability, while satisfying the given constraint on the network-wide blocking probability. From the numerical results obtained from the EON, we demonstrate that the blocking probability of the analytical model closely matches with that of the simulation. We also show that, by efficiently combining the existing sparse, partial, and limited wavelength conversion, the SPL WC can achieve the required blocking performance with the least amount of wavelength conversion cost.
MA(Mesh Adaptive)-CBRP Algorithm for Wireless Mesh Network

In this paper we propose MA-CBRP, mesh adaptive algorithm for wireless mesh networks. MA-CBRP is a hybrid algorithm based on ad-hoc CBRP protocol. In MA-CBRP, the mesh router periodically sends the ANN message as like Hello-message in CBRP. ANN message allows to all clients periodically store a route towards the mesh-router and renewal information in their routing cache. While CBRP periodically reply Hello-message, MA-CBRP does not reply to achieve less overhead. After receiving ANN message, mesh client send JOIN message to mesh router when the route towards mesh router changed. at the same time Register the entry to mesh router, it can achieve to reduce overhead of control the route and shorten the time to find route. consequently, MA-CBRP shows 7% reduced overhead and shortened time to find route than CBRP with regardless of clients number.
Design and Implementation of Assisted GPS Navigation Systems Using TPEG Protocol of Terrestrial DMB Data Services

In this paper, we propose a new assisted global positioning system (A-GPS) using terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting (T-DMB) data services. Because of the weak signal strength from GPS satellite and the signal blockage, it is difficult for the telematics terminal to determine the position in urban area. Proposed A-GPS system calculates pseudo range (PR) from timing information of GPS satellites and obtains the satellite information such as ephemeris from T-DMB station to determine the current position. Compared to conventional GPS system, the proposed system has better performance in terms of the fast time to first fix (TTFF), low horizontal dilution of precision (HDOP). Experimental results show that the proposed system is a feasible and robust solution.
A Design and Implementation of Composite Event Action Search, Translation Delivery for U-City Integrated Management Platform in U-City

This paper proposes a method and its implementation for searching, converting, and delivering composite events and actions in the U-City Integrated Management Platform to process them efficiently through allocation and collaboration between the platform and u-services. The purpose of this method is to, when a composite event occurs, execute prompt and correct measures to reduce the damage caused by the event and prevent its spread. The proposed method also helps to simplify the complexity of corresponding business processes by modifying composite events and actions that are frequently added, delete, and revised, and delivering them to u-service systems.
An Energy-Efficient Task Scheduling Algorithm for Multi Processor Embedded System by Laxity Estimation

This paper proposes a scheduling algorithm that can reduce the power consumed for execution of application programs and the communication cost incurred due to dependencies among tasks. The proposed scheduling algorithm can increase energy efficiency of the DVS(Dynamic Voltage Scaling) by estimating laxity usage during scheduling, making up for conventional algorithms that apply the DVS after scheduling. Energy efficiency can be increased by applying the proposed algorithm to complex multimedia applications. Experimental results show that energy consumptions for executing HD MPEG4, MotionJPEG codec, MP3, and Wavelet have been reduced by 11.2% on the average, when compared to conventional algorithms.
Dynamic TDMA Protocol for Transmission of Tactical Information in Wireless Network

To prepare for the network centric warfare, Korea Joint Tactical Data Link System(KJTDLS) has been developed by the South Korean military recently and its development is divided into two phases: basic and complete ones. Due to the limited bandwidth and low transmission efficiency of the developing KJTDLS (basic), lots of problems could be occurred when the TDMA protocol in Link-16 is applied. In this paper, a new dynamic TDMA frame structure for KJTDLS(basic) is proposed and the performance of the proposed is evaluated through the implementation of simulation.
Analysis of Association Relationship Between A16 Acupuncture Point and Heart Function Using Voice Signals

As indicators of life quality have recently shown great improvement, early stage medical examination and health care patterns are usually preformed before diseases occur. Thus, hand acupuncture, as an alternative medicine to reflect these movements of preventative work and health care, is widely used these days. Therefore, in this paper, we measured the change of voice signals elements associated with heart by stimulating the heart A16 acupuncture point, and then we investigated possible improvements of cardiac function through analysis of cross-comparisons between measurements of cardiac changes. With this in mind, we collected voice samples associated with heart before and after stimulating the corresponding A16 acupuncture point, and we performed an experiment by applying the second formant bandwidth and Jitter. As result, stimulating the A16 acupuncture point results to lowering the second formant bandwidth and Jitter. The result has proven that using voice signal processing technology can help improvement of heart function.
A Study on the Development of HWIL Simulation Control System for High Maneuver Guided Missile System

The High maneuver missiles use various interfaces and high speed guidance and control loop. Hardware-in-the-Loop(HWIL) simulation control system, therefore, should have high performance computing power and hardware interface capabilities, and should be developed using IT technology with which real time operating system, embedded system, data communication technology, and real time hardware control are integrated. This paper suggests the control system design techniques, such as a system hardware configuration, a job distribution algorithm for high performance multi-processors, a real time calculation and control mechanism, inter-processor communication mechanism, and a real time data acquisition technique, to perform the HWIL simulation for high maneuver missile system.
Design of the DC-DC Buck Converter for Mobile Application Using PWM/PFM Mode

This paper presents a high efficiency DC-DC buck converter for mobile device. The circuit employes simplified compensation circuit for its portability and for high efficiency at stand-by mode. This device operates at PFM mode when it enters stand-by mode(light load). In order to place the compensation circuit on chip, the capacitor multiplier method is employed, such that it can minimize the compensation block size of the error amplifier down to 30%. The measurement results show that the buck converter provides a peak efficiency of 93% on PWM mode, and 92.3% on PFM mode. The converter has been fabricated with a
CMOS technology. The input voltage of the buck converter ranges from 2.5V to 3.3V and it generates the output of 3.3V.
An Efficient Ad Hoc Routing Method for Tactical Networks using Integrated Metrics and Traffic Characteristics

Tactical network environments are characterized by unreliable connectivity, communication links which has limited bandwidth compared to commercial networks and distributed architecture where users have high mobility. The best route should be selected based on the required traffic characteristics which can be a wireless channel environments and a status of nodes which are moving. Those characteristics are self aware and should be a routing decision factor in order to guarantee a reliable data transfer. In this paper we define the requirements of services and traffic characteristics on tactical network environments and suggest the new routing method "AODV-IMTC" based on selective routing metric to enable efficient data transfer in wireless ad hoc networks.
Reliable Multicast MAC Protocol with Low Probability of Detection for Survivability in Tactical Ad-hoc Networks

In this paper, we propose a new reliable multicast MAC protocol over the IEEE 802.11-based tactical ad hoc networks. The major contribution compared to the previous reliable multicast schemes using consecutive CTSs/ACKs is that the proposed scheme can send multiple CTS/ACK messages concurrently assisted by MC-DS/CDMA mechanisms. When multiple receivers receive the RTS/DATA message from a sender, they respond with the CTS/ACK message spread with pre-assigned code in the same time interval. The proposed scheme can reduce the overhead of multiple CTSs/ACKs. It is also possible to alleviate the received signal strength at the enemy detector and thus it improves low probability of detection performance. Through simulations and analysis, the proposed scheme outperforms that of the multiple CTSs/ACks in terms of the throughput, transmission delay and low probability of detection.
A Study on Advanced Satellite Uplink Rain Attenuation Compensation using Digital Transponder of Next Military Satellite

Increased demand for military satellite communications system and due to the depletion of resources of existing satellite communications frequencies, Ka-band and EHF-band satellite communication systems is growing demand for development. As a result, the study of rain attenuation mitigation for Ka/EHF-band frequencies has been achieved. The method to compensate rain attenuation on Ka-band(20/30) using the signal power measurement function in Digital Transponder of Next Military Satellite has been proposed in this paper. This method is more effective than generally used method by Beacon and UPC(uplink power control) in giving the precise rain attenuation measurement and correction.
On an Improved Weapon System Design Method based on the Design Structure Matrix (DSM) Approach

A small number of countries are leading the world in the development of advanced weapon systems. In general, the access to the information on the design of advanced systems is limited. As such, when similar weapon systems need to be developed, a special methodology must be considered to catch up with both the technological and information barriers. In this paper, we study a design methodology based on the combination of the reverse engineering and the design structure matrix (DSM) approach. The methodology begins by analyzing the advanced system by reverse engineering and produces a set of design results in the form of physical architecture, functional architecture and system requirements. The design results are further enhanced by applying the DSM clustering. As a result, one can get an improved design result. As a target system, a guided missile system was considered.
On the Generation of Design Products for Defence Systems Acquisition Programs based on the Systems Engineering Methodology

The budget for the acquisition and R&D for the national defence systems has come out of tax payers' pockets. On the other hand, the weapon systems become more complex and thus the underlying costs tend to increase continuously. As such, the need for efficiently managing the budget has drastically increased. In accordance with this necessity, the Defence Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) of Korea has issued the instruction No.65 dictating that systems engineering (SE) must be applied when weapon systems are acquired or developed in Korea. Specifically, a list of the products that should be generated from the acquisition programs is provided. The problem is that the unexperienced companies in the defence systems industry cannot easily know how to approach the new regulation. The purpose of this study is to devise a possible remedy to solve the problem. To do so, we first review the list of the products that are required by DAPA. Then, an appropriate systems engineering processes is studied for each product. Then, a necessary link between each product and SE process activity is identified and summarized. The result obtained may be useful as a stepping stone to develop more efficient method for the list of the products.
A Study on Improvement Method of Assessment Model of Interoperability based on LISI in Weapon Systems

This paper analyzes the limitations and provides alternative options for Korean Military LISI model, which is based on interoperability assessment model, LISI(Level of Information System Interoperability), developed for US defense information systems and reformed to suit the Korean Military environment by ADD. Korean Military's LIST model is applied to all systems(information system, weapon systems, non-weapon systems)' interoperability assessment defined in acquisition regulations by Joint Interoperability Test Center, a subordinate unit of Defense Command and Control Forces and the only assessment agency of defense interoperability. LISI was basically developed as an assessment model for information system's interoperability, but due to it's shortfall in assessing complex systems including information systems, weapon and non-weapon systems required from New environment SOSI(System of Systems Interoperability) has recently been researched and developed. On the other hand, it is inevitable that Korean Military's LISI model face fundamental limitations as an interoperability assessment tool for Defense Information System as well as for weapon and non-weapon systems, since it was benchmarked and reformed from the US LISI model. In order to overcome such limitations, MND and associated agencies are providing improvement methods through studies. This paper will provide LISI capability model's assessment criteria on Application(P), Infrastructure(I), Data(D), restraints of on comparison assessment process of unit systems evaluated and politic alternatives to overcome the restraints.
DS-SS/TDMA Preamble Structure and Code Acquisition Method for Enhanced Code Acquisition Performance

In this paper, we proposed preamble structure and code acquisition method to improve code acquisition performance for DS-SS/TDMA packet communication systems. Proposed algorithm changes the short PN code position depending on the sub slot number. Proposed algorithm also saves position differences between short PN codes and position offsets between short PN codes and data starting position of the TDMA packet. By using the position difference table, proposed algorithm can find out exact data starting position even though some sub slots were defected. As a result of simulation, we concluded that proposed algorithm has at least 5dB gain compared to conventional method when same short PN code is used. Moreover, proposed algorithm shows same code acquisition performance only with 1/4 shortened short PN code compared to conventional method.
Video Image Transmissions over DDS Protocol for Unmanned Air System

Currently, one of the main purposes of the military using Unmanned Air System (VAS) is to perform surveillance and reconnaissance of hostile enemy. To carry out their mission, Unmanned aerial vechicle (UAV) transmits video images to ground control station using ISR devices installed on the UAV. After receiving the images, the ground control station distribute them to various type of users. At this case, it is important to keep QoS. This paper presents data delivery and QoS managements using DDS for DDS for UAV video images. The experiment result, based on H.264 and JPEG2000, shows that DDS standard is able to be applied to video image transmission for UAS.
Tactical Fire Direction Automation for Command and Control of Artilliary Battalion Unit

This report shows the analysis and design of tactical decision automation procedure and the result of core algorithm. Expecially scheme of analysis and design includes result of tactical decision supporting procedure analysis for target engagement to fire in refer to AFATDS. Tactical decision automation procedure has three phases like target analysis, target priority, fire unit decision, fire method and attack method. Target analysis creates base information to decide priorities and attack methods through target activity, size and protection status. Target priority and fire unit decision judge target priority and fire unit with unit status and operation mission basis of target priority. Fire unit and Attack method decide fire style according to the kind of fire and ammunition for effective firing achievement. Finally, we show the effective tactical decision automation procedure through making the algorithm of priority and air control.
