In this paper, I propose an adaptive OFDM CP length algorithm for in PLC systems for smart grid. The proposed scheme calculates the channel delay information at the CP controller of the receiver by taking correlation between a received data frame and the following delayed one. The CP controller, immediately, feeds back the channel delay information to the transmitter. Then, the transmitter adapts CP length for next data frame. As an impulsive noise model, Middleton Class A interference model was employed. The performance is evaluated in terms of packet data rate, cumulative packet data rate, and bit error rate (BER). The simulation results showed data gain (which is the amount of the reduced bits) gets larger as the number of packets increase, but the amount of data gain reduced as the number of branches (
) increase. In respects of BER for the cases
is 3, 4, and 5, performance of the adaptive CP length algorithm and the fixed CP scheme are similar. Therefore, it is confirmed the proposed scheme achieved data rate increment without BER performance reduction compared to the conventional fixed CP length scheme.

As indicators of life quality have recently shown great improvement, alternative medicine is becoming a mainstream health care pattern, in which early stage medical examinations and treatments are usually preformed before diseases occur. In this context, the ear-acupuncture method is increasingly used these day as one of important alternative medicine treatments. In this paper, we performed an experiment of facial region color analysis with kidney ear acupuncture point irritation. For this, we collected facial image samples before and after kidney ear acupuncture point irritation under the same condition. From the samples, the change rates of K, L values of CMYK color system and Lab color system, respectively, on kidney related facial parts were extracted and analyzed to investigate kidney function improvement.

In recent years opportunistic computing has gained popularity in Ad-hoc network research area and it is highly required to research for actual services and related requirements. In this paper we summarized a virtual opportunistic service that is named "Children Care System" and proposed an Ad-hoc communication node (uMobile) that is connected with cellular phone and a sensor node (uClo) which is embedding into clothes. uMobile can support cellular phone communication and Ad-hoc communication and uClo can be embedded into clothes and recognize the user status using multiple sensors. In this paper we implemented the location awareness and user status awareness services using uMobile and uClo. We also tested them in indoor situation and showed the result. We expect that our research can play a significant role to inspire another various opportunistic computing services.

OSPF is the optimized routing protocol in wired network and considered as a tactical routing protocol in wireless tactical communication network. However because it is designed basically based on wired environment, it runs inadequately in wireless tactical environment: noise and jamming signal. So, we proposed new OSPF cost function to develop active routing protocol in wireless tactical communication network. In redefined cost function, there are four parameters that are relative transmission speed, link weight, router utilization, link average BER(Bit Error Rate). These parameters reflect wireless tactical characters. Also, we remodel the option field in Hello packet. It can help user to periodically check the link state. From the simulation result, it is shown that proposed OSPF is better than OSPF in jamming situation and has accumulative delay gain with dispersion of traffic load in entire network.

Stateflow is a useful system modeling tool, which is frequently used in industry. But Stateflow has defects when users are trying to describe consecutive behaviors or a system's temporal behaviors. Timing diagram, on the other hand, is a widely used tool of explaining behaviors of a hardware system in electronics. This tool has a merit when specifying consecutive behaviors and temporal behaviors of a system. Thus, this paper suggests
, the unified modeling methodology in Stateflow domain integrating Stateflow with Timing diagram in order to improve the shortcomings of Stateflow. This paper not only explains a technique of integrating both a Stateflow model and Timing diagram models, and describes advantages of what
formalism has, but also shows its convenience using two example systems.

The perimeter defense system was created and its characteristics were evaluated. It was designed to utilize the fiber sensing device, namely OTDR(Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) which has been used for the maintenance of the optical communication network. An OTDR was constituted by a pulse laser with the nature of 1310nm, +15dBm for the observation of 400 meter optical fence. The high-speed 32-bit processor(S3C2440) has applied to MPU(Main Processor Unit) which helps to improve the performance of OTDR algorithms. Consequently, the maximum error was 0.84 meter on the performance test of the 10km monitoring and the pass criteria of
satisfied in all the sections. The alarm delay time was under 3 sec after detecting the disorder. For the case of secondary trespassing after primary trespassing, the optical switch was installed in OTDR to monitor the secondary trespassing and to measure the multi-point detection. Therefore, this paper shows that the detections of secondary trespassing and multi-point is possible by means of optical switch.

This paper presents a detection and ranging algorithm for a high-speed targets in the high PRF radar. We show, unlike the conventional methods, it firstly estimates Doppler frequency with a quasi-periodic pulse train prior to range processing. The estimated Doppler frequency can compensate the phase error enbeded in the received signal, which makes the signal integrated coherently in the range direction and localizes the target's signiture in low SNR. We present the derivation of the proposed algorithm and discuss how the system parameters such as the range/Doppler sampling condition, processing time and Doppler estimation error affect the performance of the proposed algorithm, which is verified by simulations.

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) has been investigated as promising technology for future broadband communication. In this paper, we propose a power allocation algorithm for a frequency selective fading channel. However, many investigated algorithms that perform high computation overhead are not appropriate for sensor network systems due to hardware limitations. The proposed algorithm significantly reduces computational overhead and satisfies the power budget. Throughput of the algorithm is comparable to the optimum solution. Simulation results support the claim stated.

M2M communication is considered as a key enabling technology to monitor the status of objects, vehicles, humans through auto-configuring wireless networks. In M2M network, there are active research activities to enhance the reliability on data while being collected from wireless sensor network. The reliability issue becomes more important as wireless sensor networks carry multimedia data, which is delay sensitive. The interference caused by the adjacent neighbor sensor nodes is a major factor in network performance degradation, which becomes more severe in multi-hop routing environment. In this paper, we propose inerfernce-free multipath routing protocol for M2M wireless network for enhancement of packet delay performance. The simulation results show that the proposed routing algorithm outperforms the existing routing protocols in terms of packet delay and throughput.

This paper considers the cost minimization problem to satisfy QoS (Quality of Service) requirements for a given network, in particular when communication resources to each link can be additionally assigned. For the purpose of quantifying QoS requirements such as data transfer delay and packet loss, we introduce the cost function considering both the link utilization factor and the additionally assigned resource. To minimize this cost function, we firstly formulate a Basic Capacity Planning (BCP) problem, a special case of Network Utility Maximization (NUM). We show that the solution of this BCP problem cannot be optimal via a counter example. In this paper, we suggest the cross-layer design of both additionally assigned resource and routing path, whose initial values are set to the result of BCP problem. This cross-layer design is based on a heuristic approach which presents an effective way to plan how much communication resources should be added to support the QoS requirements in future. By simulation study, we investigate the convergence of the cost function in a more general network topology as well as in a given simple topology.

The Journal of Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences, volume 35, issue 12B, 2010, Pages 1758~1765
This paper proposes an architecture exploration methodology for the design of embedded cores exploiting design hierarchy. The proposed method performs systematic architecture exploration by taking different approaches for verifying designs and estimating performances depending on the hierarchy level in design process. Performance estimation tools generate profile having performance data related with design modules of an embedded core. Profile analyzer performs data-mining to acquire association rules between the design modules and performance parameters. Inference engine in the profile analyzer updates the association rules which will be used to improve the design performance at next exploration steps. To show the efficiency of the proposed architecture explorations methodology, experiments had been performed for JPEG encoder, Chen-DCT, and FFT application functions. The embedded cores designed by taking the proposed method show performance improvement by 60.8% in terms of clock cycles on the average when compared with the initial embedded core in MIPS R3000.

This paper proposes a real-time algorithm of recognizing speed limit signs for intelligent vehicles. Contrary to previous works which use all the pixel values in the ROI (Region Of Interest) after preprocessing image at ROI and need a lot of operations, the proposed algorithm uses fewer DCT coefficients in the ROI as features of each image to reduce the number of operations. Choosing a portion of DCT coefficients which satisfy discriminant criteria for recognition, the proposed algorithm recognizes the speed limit signs using the information obtained in the selected features through LDA and MD. It selects one having the highest probability among the recognition results calculated by accumulating the classification results of consecutive individual frames. Experimental results show that the recognition rate for consecutive frames reaches to 100% with test images. When compared with the previous algorithm, the numbers of multiply and add operations are reduced by 58.6% and 38.3%, respectively.
