Optimization of Net Residual Dispersion and Launching Power Depend on Total Transmission Length and Span Length in Optical Transmission Links with Dispersion Management and Optical Phase Conjugation

Design rules of optical transmission links with dispersion management (DM) and optical phase conjugation (OPC) for compensating optical signal distortion due to chromatic dispersion and self phase modulation (SPM) of single mode fiber (SMF) are investigated in this paper. Design rules consist of optimal net residual dispersion (NRD) and optimal range of launching power of wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) channels as a function of total transmission length and span length. In all considered total transmission length and span length, optimal NRD are obtained to +10 ps/nm and -10 ps/mn for transmission links, which is controlled by precompensation and postcompensation, respectively. It is confirmed that system performances are more improved and effective NRD for wide launching power have wider range as total transmission length and span length are more decreased.
Localization of WLAN Access Point Smart Phone's GPS Information

In this article, we propose a new method for precise WLAN (Wireless Area Network) AP (Access Point) localization using GPS information measured in the smart phone. The idea is that the possible area of WLAN AP location, called AP_Area, is first determined by measuring GPS information and the received signal strength in the smart phones. As the number of measurements from the smart phones increases, the AP_Area are successively narrowed down to the actual AP location. We have performed the simulation to evaluate the proposed algorithm. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can detect the Wi-Fi AP localization within 5 m (probability over than 90%).

The HPcN (Hybrid & high Performance Convergence Network) in research networks means environment which can provide both computing resource such as supercomputer, cluster and network resource to application researchers in the field of medical, bio, aerospace and e-science. The most representative research network in Korea, KREONET has been developing following technologies through the HERO (Hybrid Networking project for research oriented infrastructure) from 200S. First, we have constructed and deployed a control plane technology which can provide a connection oriented network dynamically. Second, the integrated resource management system technology has been developing for reservation and allocation of both computing and network resources, whenever users want to utilize them. In this paper, a testbed network is presented, which is possible to reserve and allocate network resource using the integrated resource management system. We reserve network resource through GNSI (Grid Network Service Interface) messages between GRS (Global Resource Scheduler) and NRM (Network Resource Manager) and allocate network resource through GUNI (Grid User Network Interface) messages between the NRM (network resource manager) and routers, based on reservation information provided from a user on the web portal. It is confirmed that GUNI interface messages are delivered from the NRM to each router at the starting of reservation time and traffic is transmitted through LSP allocated by the NRM.
Positioning Mechanism Using GPS and Pico-cell ID Access Probability

Cell-ID based positioning solution is cheaper and easier to implement than other wireless positioning solutions. However, its accuracy is relatively low. So we propose a novel approach to improve its accuracy. Our approach uses the probability that an MS will connect to each of BSs among several BSs to which an MS can access in a pico-cell network, and Cell-ID based positioning method is applied. The simulation result shows that performance of the proposed approach is improved compared to the other positioning solutions.
A Study on the Effect of Redundant and Repetitive Transmission for Wireless Internet Local Broadcasting

With the proliferation of wireless LAN and smart phones, IP local broadcasting technology has been developed, and the new solution should be studied for error corrupted frames in the wireless broadcasting channel. In push service system using point-to-multi-point connection among broadcasting server and receivers, the technology proposed in this paper provides an effective data broadcasting system by employing frame length adjustment, redundant transmission, and repetitive transmission method.
A Mobile IPTV Authentication Protocol using Session Key in Wireless LAN

Recently the mobile IPTV service has been spread through the wireless LAN(WLAN). In order to provide the commercial mobile IPTV service through the WLAN, re-authentication for the mobile IPTV terminal is required whenever the mobile terminal roams between APs(Access Points). The most popular one of the authentication protocol standards for the wired and/or wireless LAN is IEEE 802.1X. However IEEE 802.1X takes much time to authenticate the terminal and is not adequate for the seamless mobile IPTV service. We introduce the session key and separate the user authentication and the hardware authentication. And we strengthen the device authentication by the initial registration. By these, the proposed authentication protocol reduces the authentication time and can protect the authentication key securely.

As a way for defending against cyber security threats, there has been a research on cybersecurity information exchange between security management domains in order to raise security performance of the whole network. One of the hottest issues in exchanging cybersecurity information between security management domains is that the requirements of those domains on information sharing are different with each other because each is autonomous domain. This paper proposes a mechanism for effective cybersecurity Information exchange between independent security management domains, which can satisfy their requirements on information sharing through sharing policy and sharing policy control protocol, proposed in this paper. In this paper we have developed an integrated security control system that supports the proposed mechanism. Through the system the performance of the proposed mechanism is measured and evaluated.
Improving Data Availability by Data Partitioning and Partial Overlapping on Multiple Cloud Storages

A cloud service customer has no other way but to wait for his lost data to be recovered by the cloud service provider when the data was lost or not accessible for a while due to the provider's system failure, cracking attempt, malfunction, or outage. We consider a solution to address this problem that can be implemented in the cloud client's domain, rather than in the cloud service provider's domain. We propose a high level architecture and scheme for successfully retrieving data units even when several cloud storages are not accessible at the same time. The scheme is based on a clever way of partitioning and partial overlapping of data for being stored on multiple cloud storages. In addition to providing a high level of data availability, the scheme makes it possible to re-encrypt data units with new keys in a user transparent way, and can produce the complete log of every user's data units accessed, for assessing data disclosure, if needed.
BPAF2.0: Extended Business Process Analytics Format for Mining Process-driven Social Networks

WfMC, which is one of the international standardization organizations leading the business process and workflow technologies, has been officially released the BPAF1.0 that is a standard format to record process instances' event logs according as the business process intelligence mining technologies have recently issued in the business process and workflow literature. The business process mining technologies consist of two groups of algorithms and their analysis techniques; one is to rediscover flow-oriented process-intelligence, such as control-flow, data-flow, role-flow, and actor-flow intelligence, from process instances' event logs, and the other has something to do with rediscovering relation-oriented process-intelligence like process-driven social networks and process-driven affiliation networks from the event logs. The current standardized format of BPAF1.0 aims at only supporting the control-flow oriented process-intelligence mining techniques, and so it is unable to properly support the relation-oriented process-intelligence mining techniques. Therefore, this paper tries to extend the BPAF1.0 so as to reasonably support the relation-oriented process-intelligence mining techniques, and the extended BPAF is termed BPAF2.0. Particularly, we have a plan to standardize the extended BPAF2.0 as not only the national standard specifications through the e-Business project group of TTA, but also the international standard specifications of WfMC.
Extension Strategy for Terrestrial DTV-Internet Hybrid Services Standard

Due to the advance of broadband communication networks including the Internet, the release of diverse media, and the busy life cycle of modern people, it became difficult to watch TV programs strictly according to the program schedule. Instead, demand to download and watch the programs at any time on TV is increasing. In order to meet the demand, terrestrial DTV broadcasters developed a TV service which provides various on-demand contents by integrating terrestrial DTV network and the Internet without enforcing viewers to subscribe broadcasting services such as IPTV or CableTV, and standardized it as OHTV(Open Hybrid TV). In this paper, we explain the current status of OHTV standard and worldwide hybrid TV services and their technical standards. We also provide a strategy for the next version of OHTV standard in order to enhance the value of OHTV.
Study on the Calculation of International ICT Network Indices

With the development of ICT technology, the broadcasting and communication networks of Korea have been bigger, faster and more reliable and Korea has become one of the leading countries in the ICT industry. Through the international ICT indices, we can see different economies' ICT industry competitiveness at a glance and high ranking in such indices can make national brand image improve. However almost all the existing international ICT indices mainly focused on the telecommunication industry, not on the broadcasting industry. This study thus aims to develop a new index focusing on broadcasting and communication networks. This new index is composed of 3 sectors such as access, usage and environment with different weight respectively and using objective indicators. This study also aims to contribute to improve Korea's national brand image by developing new systematic and effective broadcasting and communication index.
A New Low-Power Bus Encoding Scheme Using Bus-Invert Logic Conversion

In ultra-deep submicron technology, minimization of propagation delay and power consumption on buses is one of the most important design objectives in system-on-chip (SOC) design. Crosstalk between adjacent wires on the bus may create a significant portion of propagation delay. Elimination or minimization of such faults is crucial to the performance and reliability of SOC designs. Most of the previous works on bus encoding are targeted either to minimize the bus switching or minimize the crosstalk delay, but not both. This paper proposes a new bus encoding scheme which can adaptively select one of functions "invert" and "logic-convert" according the number of bus switching on an encoded 4-bit cluster. This scheme leads to minimization of both crosstalk and bus switching. In experiment result, our proposed encoding technique consumes about 25% less power over the previous, while completely eliminating the crosstalk delay.
Design and Development of Personal Healthcare System Based on IEEE 11073/HL7 Standards Using Smartphone

The increased life expectancy of human due to the advance of medical techniques has led to many social problems such as rapidly aging populations, increased medical expenses and a lack of medical specialists. Thus, studies on improving the quality of life with the least amount of expense have been going on by incorporating advanced technologies, especially for Personal Health Devices (PHDs), into the medical service market. However, compatibility and extensibility among manufacturers of PHDs have not been taken into account in most of the researches done on the development of PHDs because most of them have been supported by individual medical organizations. The interoperability among medical organizations can not be guaranteed because each medical organization uses different format of the messages. Therefore, in this paper, an expansion module that can enable commercially-available non-standard PHDs to support the IEEE 11073, and a smart-phone-based manager that can support easy and comprehensive management on receiving and transmitting the collected data from each PHD using IEEE 11073 standard were developed. In addition, a u-health system that can transmit the data collected in the manager using the standard data format HL 7 to medical center for real-time medical service from every medical institutions that support this standard was designed and developed.
MIMO-OFDM BPLC over Statistical Power Line Channels with Cross-Talk

In this paper, we present a MIMO-OFDM broadband power line communication (BPLC) for Smart Grid and its associated applications and analyze its performance over the 3-phase 4-wire power line channels. For practical BPLC system simulation, we adopt the statistical power line fading channel model instead of the existing deterministic fading channel models (Zimmermann model, MTL model, and so on). In this paper, we implement
MIMO schemes using 3-phase 4-wire power lines. We investigate the capacity loss and BER performance of the proposed MIMO system by considering the effect of cross-talk between antenna paths. We choose space-frequency coding in order to reduce frequency interference between subcarriers and employ maximum ratio combining (MRC) that achieves both multiple antenna path diversity gain and multiple fading path diversity gain. We evaluate the proposed system performance through computer simulation in terms of the impulse noise index and the capacity loss ratio and compare the different signal combining schemes including MRC, equal gain combing (EGC), and selection combining (SC).
Design of a Real-time Algorithm Using Block-DCT for the Recognition of Speed Limit Signs

This paper proposes a real-time algorithm for speed limit sign recognition for advanced safety vehicle system. The proposed algorithm uses Block-DCT in extracting features from a given ROI(Region Of Interest) instead of using entire pixel values as in previous works. The proposed algorithm chooses parts of the DCT coefficients according to the proposed discriminant factor, uses correlation coefficients and variances among ROIs from training samples to reduce amount of arithmetic operations without performance degradation in classification process. The algorithm recognizes the speed limit signs using the information obtained during training process by calculating LDA and Mahalanobis Distance. To increase the hit rate of recognition, it uses accumulated classification results computed for a sequence of frames. Experimental results show that the hit rate of recognition for sequential frames reaches up to 100 %. When compared with previous works, numbers of multiply and add operations are reduced by 69.3 % and 67.9 %, respectively. Start after striking space key 2 times.
Fast Link Switching Scheme for LED-ID System

LED-ID (light emitting diode - identification) technology is the new paradigm in the identification technology environment. LED-ID system typically needs line of sight (LOS) that supports narrow FOV transceivers links to achieve high data rate. On the other hand, narrow FOV reduces the coverage area. Therefore, the number of tags is increased significantly to cover the whole area. In this case number of link switching is increased when the reader moves within whole coverage area. Link switching delay is the important factor for the moving reader to maintain the communication with high data rate and better QoS. In this paper we propose in literature a new link switching scheme and measure the link switching delay time for LED-ID system. The simulation results show that the proposed link switching scheme is a possible candidate for multi-tag LED-ID system.
Performance Analysis of Indoor/Outdoor Visible Light Communication System Influenced by External Noise Light

We analyzed the noise effect from artificial light and sunlight on the signal performance in visible light communication systems based on Intensity Modulation/Direct Detection(IM/DD). System performance was experimentally demonstrated by transmitting 50ksysmbol/s QPSK signals at 2MHz sub-carrier. And received signals were analyzed using EVM and RF spectrum. Finally, the system performance was improved by utilizing a visor and we confirm that the outdoor visible light communication was possible using IM/DD method.

This paper discusses standardization activities, requirements and enabling technologies for 100G Ethernet and 100G OTN. The need of 100Gbps transport capacity has been gaining greater interest from service providers and carrier vendors. Moreover, optical transport networks based on OTN/DWDM are changing their properties to apply Ethernet traffic which is dramatically increasing. We realize and experimentally demonstrate OTU4 framer with commercial FPGA. The key features of the realized OTU4 framer are parallel signal processing function, multi-lane distribution function, GMP function and FEC function. The realized OTU4 framer has the large signal processing capacity of 120Gbps, which allows to transport about 120Gbps client signals such as
Ethernet. The realized OTU4 framer has the advantages to quickly adjust to changing markets and new technologies by using commercial FPGA instead of ASIC.
A standardization of AGNSS-Packet Timing Hybrid for a Synchronization of Femtocell

The synchronization is one of the important issues for successful operation of femtocell. The synchronization of femtocell is distinctly different from that of larger wireless base stations in a number of important respects such as 1) The femtocell is located in indoor environment which may make it difficult to receive the adequate GNSS signals. 2) The backhaul of femtocell is connected to the public network which may have more PDV than private network. 3) The entire cost of femtocell needs to be very low. In our thesis, we investigate the candidate solutions including AGNSS (Assisted GNSS), NTP (Network Time Protocol), PTP (Precision Timing Protocol) and Cellular Network Listen for indoor timing solution. We propose the AGNSS-PTP Hybrid scheme which can improve time and frequency quality by selecting the better reference between AGNSS and PTP, and cover the standard status which are under discussion from IEEE, ITU-T, and IETF.
Priority-based Intelligent Uplink Random Access Scheme for Fourth-generation Cellular Systems and Its Standardization

Fourth-generation (4G) cellular communication systems must provide different quality-of-service (QoS) to users according to the service type, membership class, and usage case of each user. For the purpose of user's QoS differentiation, we propose an enhanced uplink random access scheme for bandwidth request. More specifically, we divide a bandwidth request channel into two parts: One is a primary region and the other is a secondary region. Then, each region has a unique minimum access class that allows only specific users to perform random access through that region. By doing so, we can reduce collision probability and increase the success probability of bandwidth request. From the perspective of standardization, we presented this scheme in the IEEE 802.16m Session #66 held on March 2010. As a result, the concept of the proposed scheme and required messages were defined in the 802.16m standard.
Implementation and Interoperability Test for the IEEE 802.1Qay PBB-TE System

In this paper, we implement IEEE 802.1Qay PBB-TE system and verify interoperability with the commercial PBB-TE product. In order to verify interoperability, we implement the standard protocol as well as the system integrating functions including system kernel control functions. Through interoperability tests with the commercial system, we verify the implemented protocol to perform PBB-TE TESI and ESP configurations, and protection switching as well as monitoring the results.

This paper suggests the methods to improve the wireless backhaul link of the Relay FDD mode that 3GPP LTE-Advanced supports. New RRC message and Relay startsup procedure are introduced to apply Carrier Aggregation in the Relay wireless backhaul. Also, we design new reference signal that makes Type 1 Relay operated in full-duplexing, expecting to maximize the radio resource utilization. And, we propose the efficient configuration for the periodic uplink control information under the backhaul subframe allocation method in LTE-Advanced Relay. Hereafter, the standard activities in the 3GPP RAN is supposed to focus on the improvement of the LTE-Advanced features. Therefore, the suggestions in this paper are expected to be actively discussed in the LTE-Advanced future releases.
Design and Implementation of Intelligent Management System for Retail Stores using RFID Technology

In this paper, we discuss design and implementation of intelligent retail store management system through the application of RFID technology to effectively manage retail stores. Firstly, we defined functionality required for system development, designed the system structure, and proposed the service control procedures. Secondly, we implemented the designed system, and then conducted related tests to verify functionality and performance of the system. As a result, we confirmed through functional tests including 129 items that everything was normal behavior, and were able to determine the performance through testing of RFID middleware, RFID readers and tags.
A Node Deployment Strategy Considering Environmental Factors and the Number of Nodes in Surveillance and Reconnaissance Sensor Network

In the area of wireless sensor networks, sensor coverage and network connectivity problems are caused by a limited detection range and the communication distance of the nodes. To solve the coverage and connectivity problems, many studies are suggested, but most research is restricted to apply into the real environment because they didn't consider various environmental factors on wireless sensor network deployment. So in this paper, we propose a node deployment strategy considering environmental factors and the number of nodes in surveillance and reconnaissance sensor networks(SRSN). The proposed node deployment method divides the installation of the surveillance and reconnaissance sensor networks system into four steps such as identification of influences factors for node placement through IPB process, sensor node deployment based on sensing range, selection of monitoring site, and relay node deployment based on RF communication range. And it deploys the sensor nodes and relay nodes considered the features of the surveillance and reconnaissance sensor network system and environmental factors. The result of simulation indicates that the proposed node deployment method improves sensor coverage and network connectivity.
A Study on Animal Information Management System (AIMS) Using an Insertion Type UHF RFID Tag

This paper introduces UHF RFID tag antenna which can be inserted between the skin and muscle of animal. Animal Information Management System (AIMS) using the developed tag has been developed. Since the general and commercial tags are not working in the body of any animal, the new tag for flash body has been developed with the consideration of dielectric constant of the muscle and fat of animal. The tag shape is flat and sharp end to make it easy to insert the tag just under the skin. The performance of the installed tag under the skin and in the muscle has been verified. The AIMS can manage the animal, history of illness, information of owner and address. This program can be applied to the management of military and police dogs.

This paper aims to build up a RFID-automated cargo movement system in an air-cargo warehouse. In our research, we do the spectrum measurements compliant with the RFID frequency bands to observe the interferences from legacy systems in the air-cargo warehouse. To overcome the dense-reader mode (DRM) problem, we apply three novel approaches, which are the periodic transmit of a reader, the Visible RFID reader & tag, and the sensor-based RFID system. Moreover, for the tag collision issue, we implement the Adaptive Adjustable Framed Q(AAFQ) algorithm, and the demonstration on RFID tag anti-collision algorithms show that the AAFQ algorithm has highly desirable tag anti-collision performance compared to any other commercially available solutions.
Mobile RFID Technology Standardization Activities and Strategy

Mobile RFID technology as a typical Convergence technology combines RFID communication, mobile communication and network infrastructure, and information processing technology. As it enables users to communicate with the surroundings, Mobile RFID technology is now recognized to serve as the basis technology for the Ubiquitous Information Society where users can get the needed information anytime and anywhere. Through lots of efforts for the early technology development and standardization activities on Mobile RFID technology, Korea has been leading technology standardization as well as technology initiatives. Thus, this research paper describes the domestic and the international standardization activities on Mobile RFID technology as well as the latest standardization status. Further this paper summarizes the major standardization issues, and then proposes the standardization strategy of Mobile RFID technology by analyzing the relevant and influential factors.
The Design and Implementation of a Real-Time FMD Cattle Burial Sites Monitoring System Based-on Wireless Environmental Sensors

Recent outbreak of cattle diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease(FMD) requires constant monitoring of burial sites of mass cull of cattles. However, current monitoring system takes environmental samples from burial sites with period of between one and two weeks, which makes it impossible for non-stop management of hazardous bio-waste. Therefore, in this study, we suggest an improved real-time environmental monitoring system for such bio-hazardous sites based on wireless sensor networks, which makes constant surveillance of the FMD burial sites possible. The system consists mainly several wireless environmental monitoring sensors(i.e dust, Co2, VOC, NH3, H2S, temperature, humidity) nodes and GPS location tracking nodes. Through analysis of the relayed of the environmental monitoring data via gateway, the system makes it possible for constant monitoring and quick response for emergency situation of the burial sites. In order to test the effectiveness of the system, we have installed a set of sensor to gas outlets of the burial sites, then collected and analyzed measured bio-sensing data. We have conducted simulated emergency test runs and was able to detect and monitor the foul smell constantly. With our study, we confirm that the preventive measures and quick response of bio environmental accident are possible with the help of a real-time environmental monitoring system.
Analysis and Design a Optimum Protocol for TICN Tactical Backbone

The Korea Army are developing the TICN(Tactical Information Communication Network) which is the next army tactical communication system. The TICN tactical backbone's ability is very important. So analysis of the standard protocol for the data transmission guarantee are obliged. For the TICN tactical backbone, previous paper analysed routing protocol efficiency index and compared to superiority of the OSPF and IS-IS protocols in the tactical environment and conclusively IS-IS protocol was more suitable for TICN backbone routing protocol. And We got the result that It could improve the performance of IS-IS protocol as a TICN tactical backbone protocol under the tactical environments by adjusting some time parameters of IS-IS protocol. This paper modified and designed the IS-IS protocol in order to support the QoS strategies of TICN and analyzed it's adaptability through simulation.
Satellite Data Link Waveform and Transponder Structure for Anti-Jamming

In this paper, satellite data link waveform is proposed which is based on the waveform of Link-16 but LDPC code is studied instead of CCSK code in order to be optimized to satellite nonlinear channel environment and transmission characteristics. And the DSM (Demux, Selective CH switch, and Mux) transponder structure is suggested which can remove all of the jamming signal out of the transmission signal band and convert uplink hopping frequency to desired ones of downlink. The results of BER and anti-jamming performance analysis shows that the required Eb/No and processing gain in the worst case partial band jammer of the proposed waveform are 2.5dB and 52dB respectively and the anti-jamming capacity improvement of DSM transponder is maximum 2dB.
Optimal Location Selection Algorithm of MSAP for Tactical Communication Networks

In Network Centric Warfare (NCW) environment, having a tactical communication network which provides high data exchange rate is very important. In the process, Korean Army developed Mobile Subscriber Access Point (MSAP) which is based on the commercial Wireless BroadBand (Wibro). MSAP is a vehicle attached base station which provide high data exchange communication environment in a given area. Thus MSAP can provide high data exchange rate and mobility to accomplish missions in the battlefield more effectively. In this paper, we propose an operational strategy of using MSAP to provide tactical communication network in the battlefield. The idea is to find the optimal location point of the MSAP in the operational area where all the troops in the operational area can be supported by the MSAP with a minimum number of MSAP. Since the current Korean Army's basic idea of using MSAP is just distribute this MSAP to each troop, so by applying our strategy we can save MSAP devices for more flexible operation. We will show our strategy's benefits through the mathematical model and the algorithm of the presented problem.
On the Requirements and Risk Management using QFD Methods for ACTD Programs

The concept of the advanced concept technology demonstration (ACTD) has previously been introduced in USA in order to make it possible to rapidly transfer advanced technologies developed in commercial sectors to develop weapon systems in the defense area. Since then in Korea several ACTD programs have been developed and being carried out However, there are few program management methods suitable for the characteristics of the ACTD programs, which requires stringent management of the program requirements and risks due to the radically shortened development time. In this paper such a problem has been addressed and as a solution approach the quality function deployment (QFD) method has been adopted, which is being served as a successful model in various areas such as manufacturing. The QFD method is used in our study to improve communication between various stakeholders involved in the ACTD programs and also to reduce risks related to requirements. Specifically we have developed the ACTD standard templates based on the QFD method and discussed how to use the developed templates. Finally, the application of the study result is demonstrated through the ACTD program of flight information demonstration system and also specific ways are suggested to use the standard templates, to manage requirements, and to reduce risks.
Detection Performance of Noncoherent Radar: MIMO Radar, Phased Array Radar, Directional MIMO Radar

In a traditional phased array radar, closely spaced antenna elements transmit a scaled version of single waveform to maximize the signal energy. On the contrary, a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar consists of widely separated antennas and transmits an arbitrary waveform from each antenna element. These waveforms and spatial diversity enable superior capabilities compared with phased array radar. At high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), the detection performance of the MIMO radar is better than the phased array radar due to the diversity gains. However, the phased array radar outperforms the MIMO radar at low SNR, due to the energy maximization. In this paper, we investigate the compromised scheme between the MIMO radar and the phased array radar. Employing the MIMO radar equipped with phased array elements, the compromised scheme achieves both array gain and diversity gain. Also, we compare the performance degradation when the steering direction is incorrect.
