Implementation of an Ethernet Adapter for the G-PON TC Layer

The G-PON is an efficient solution to implement the FTTH and have GEM frame to accomodate various protocols like Ethernet frames, IP packets, and TDM signals. Above all, the Ethernet is one of the most widely used 2nd layer protocol in the campus, the subscriber access, and the carrier service. So G-PON system has to provide an Ethernet interface with top priority. In this paper, we implement a gigabit Ethernet adapter based on Ethernet over GEM in the ITU-T G.984.3 to accommodate Ethernet protocol in the G-PON TC chip. The adapter maps each Ethernet frame to a single or multiple GEM frames and has several functions including generation of the GEM header, encapsulation of frames and the SAR. In particular, the adapter have converter (LUT) MAC address to port-ID which is a key to identify logical connections though it is not defined in specification but important. We implement the adapter with a FPGA and verify the functions of segmentation and reassembling, MAC address learning, and throughput with the logic analyzer and the Ethernet analyzer.
Overhead Reduction Methods in Communication between 6LoWPAN and External Node

As an Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) Working Group, 6LoWPAN is standardizing the IPv6 packet transfer technology in accordance with IEEE 802.15.4. It has completed two Request for Comments (RFC) documents, one of which, RFC 4944, addresses fragmentation, reassembly, and header compression technologies. In this paper, a communication mechanism is proposed to provide efficient communication between 6LoWPAN and external nodes. In this mechanism, the gateway between 6LoWPAN and external networks serves as the proxy gateway between nodes. The simulation was conducted using QualNet to compare the performance of the proposed mechanism and the existing RFC 4944 method. The comparative analysis of the proposed mechanism and the existing method showed that the proposed method performed better.
Research on OS fingerprinting Method for Real-time Traffic Analysis System

The Internet has become an essential part in our modern life by providing useful information. So, the volume of Internet traffic has been increasing rapidly, which emphasizes the importance of network traffic analysis for effective network operation and management. Signature based analysis have been commonly used, but it is shown that the increase of signatures due to the increase of applications causes the performance degradation of real-time traffic analysis on high-speed network links. In this paper, we propose OS fingerprinting method for real-time traffic analysis. The previous problems can be solved by utilizing the OS information. The OS fingerprinting method for real-time traffic analysis, proposed in this paper, conducts under passive mode, and improves the limitation of a previous method such as low completeness and accuracy. In this paper, we enlarged an input data to improve completeness, and used the User-Agent field in HTTP packet to extract various OS signatures. Also, we changed an input data from packet to flow to improve accuracy.
Video QoE Measurement Algorithm by Parameter Matching for IPTV Services

QoE is defined as a quality perceived by users on a certain service. However, standard method to measure voice QoE(MOS) has been developed, but no standard method to measure video QoE has been defined. In this paper, we propose an efficient algorithm to measure video QoE s automatically for IPTV services. The proposed method selects candidate scenarios that affect the users' MOS directly, and derives weight factors for the selected scenarios. With the weight factors for the scenarios, video QoE value is calculated. For the validation of the proposed algorithm, we made degraded videos reflecting the parameters. With the degraded videos, by comparing the user perceived MOSs with the video QoEs derived by the proposed algorithm, we show that the two values are highly correlated each other.
A Vehicle Communication Routing Algorithm Considering Road Characteristics and 2-Hop Neighbors in Urban Areas

V2V (Vehicle-to-Vehicle) is a special kind of VANET (Vehicular Ad-hoc Network), which has high mobility and frequent topology changes and causes the link breakage problem. To resolve this problem, geographic routing protocols such as greedy forwarding are proposed. However, the greedy forwarding approach selects the node closest to the destination node as the transfer node within the transmission range so that it may cause many problems owing to many intersections and many changes in vehicular traffic in urban areas. The paper proposes a greedy perimeter urban routing (GPUR) algorithm considering the presence of 2-hop neighbor nodes and the road characteristics. Simulation results using ns-2 reveal that the proposed GPUR algorithm significantly reduces the routing error problem and the probability of local maximum than the existing routing protocols.

A improved system and protocol architecture for Personal Environment Service which has been created recently, is proposed in this paper. PES is the typical mobile convergence service based on smart phone and user profile, and its influence would be very huge in the near future. In order to make it feasible more efficiently, the system architecture should be studied from the early stage. The proposed PES system and protocol architecture could be valuable reference for the further study and development of PES system and technology.
Design and Implementation of Storage-based Data Sharing System in the Separate Network Environment

In this paper, we propose the design and implementation of the storage-based data sharing system in the separate network environment to improve efficiency of data transmission. The previous system generates files per received packet and transmit files to another network through storage. This system causes inefficiency by reading unnecessary blocks, when it transmits a number of files through storage. Our proposed system deals with this inefficiency by adopting concept of snapshot. Consequently, we create one file with snapshot so that the number of files can be reduced and the file size can be optimized according to the block size. The proposed system improves the response time significantly with the minimized reading of unnecessary blocks, compared to the previous system.

Most of IT small businesses in Korea are companies which usually take parts from the technically advanced companies and assemble the parts into a complete whole for big companies. Intellectual property-related issue of IT small businesses in Korea is not the direct action or claim but the matter of contract concerning the 3rd party intellectual property infringement or the matter of each of the applicable law on the implied liability issues. Because bargaining power of the IT small businesses is not as big as the technically advanced companies, they can not receive explicit guarantees. Therefore, government-affiliated organization should concern about this matter of contract.
Implementation and Performance Evaluation of Platform Independent Performance Enhanced Software Streaming Technology

Software streaming technology is a service method which can support several application software via streaming in networks. In this paper, we propose a platform independent PESS(performance Enhanced Software Streaming) technology. We design and implement the technology based on Java language. The main features in the implemented system are both platforms to be used in multiple operating systems in addition to Windows system and enhanced performance. In the implemented streaming method, application software is placed on the server and only necessary packs are transmitted in an instant. By virtual file system and clients' virtual registry, if necessary, the users' request is processed by transmitting a very small pack unit. Therefore, server load can be reduced and the streaming speed can also be improved. We present the implementation results and evaluate several performance characteristics of the proposed system.
Development of Wireless Ambulatory System Measuring 3-D Motion as Podiatric Diagnosis

In this research, a wireless movable systems is introduced that is applicable for real-world clinical examination in order to resolve the inconvenience of wired motion analysis system which uses markers by measuring more accurately the angle of the 3D motion. The system is composed of bluetooth data transmission and 6 DOF inertial measurement system that is composed of 3-axis acceleration and 3-axis gyroscope. The samples were collected from 10 feet of 5 young children who were confirmed as patients having flat feet and achilles tendonitis by podiatric expert in pediatrics, and the validity of the system was evaluated by comparison with the opinion by the expert using the EMG data and the data measured by the developed system. ROM of ankle was measured by the difference between the maximum and the minimum peaks of 3-axis values (pitch, roll and yaw) measured at lateral malleolus bone, and based on this measured value, the eversion rate became relatively higher as flat feet state become worse, which is equivalent to the opinion from the podiatric experts. It was shown that there is a relation between the certain muscle activities and the abnormal motion of foot caused by disease.

In this paper, we present the AMI System mentioned as one of the main application areas in the M2M. To enable the AMI, it is essentially required to install, deploy and manage all the devices. Especially, Device Management technology is considered to be suitable for these AMI due to its advantages like, easy installation, remote FW/SW upgradeability. We investigate the fundamental operation of the DM and the design of the DM in the AMI is presented.
Performance Analysis of Channel Compensation and Channel Coding Techniques based on Measured Maritime Wireless Channel in VHF-band Ship Ad-hoc Network

In this paper, the parameters of the RTT (Radio Transmission Techniques) for SANET (Ship Ad-hoc NETwork), which is considered for the next generation maritime communication systems, are set up. A channel model has been analyzed based on the practical measured maritime wireless channel in VHF (Very-High Frequency) for SANET system. Also, by considering the frame structure including preamble, guard time and pilots for both single and multi-carrier systems, the BER (Bit Error Rate) performances are evaluated and analyzed in the aspects of channel compensation and channel coding techniques. Based on the simulation results, optimal modulation & coding schemes are suggested for SANET. That is, in single-carrier system by using differential modulation schemes, channel compensation is not necessary. However, channel coding is helpful to achieve additional gain. On the other hand, when 16-QAM modulation is employed in multi-carrier system, the implementation of both channel compensation and channel coding techniques show huge performance gain for various of K values, which are related to different maritime environments, and the rolling effects of wave.
Detection Probability Evaluation of LEO Satellites based Automatic Identification System for a Maritime-Terrestrial Integrated Network

In this paper, the feasibility of LEO(low earth orbit) satellite-based automatic identification system (SAT-AIS) for the coastal area of the South Korea is evaluated in the context of ship AIS transmission detection probability. We evaluate and compare AIS signal detection probability of ORBCOMM satellites and LEO-one satellites considering link budget, SOTDMA protocol and satellite's swath width. The simulation determines the total number of vessels served by those satellites according to satellite's swath width and thus, By simulation results, the ORBCOMM SAT-AIS system outperforms LEO-one SAT-AIS system. The suggested ORBCOMM based SAT-AIS system can be a solution to resolve the existing limited transmission distance problem of the conventional ship-to-shore AIS system.
A Cooperative ARQ Scheme for Single-hop and Multi-hop Underwater Acoustic Sensor Networks

We propose an efficient cooperative ARQ (Automatic Repeat reQuest) scheme for single-hop and multi-hop underwater acoustic communications, in which cooperative nodes are used to provide more reliable alternative paths for a specific source-to-destination connection. This alternative path has higher channel quality than that of the direct source-destination path. In addition, during a packet-relay through multiple hops, the typical acknowledgement (ACK) signal is replaced with overhearing data packet returned back from the next hop. The usage of overhearing as an ACK improves the system performance. In this paper, we evaluate the proposed scheme by comparing it with a conventional S&W ARQ in terms of throughput efficiency. Computer simulation results show that the proposed cooperative retransmission scheme can significantly improve the throughput by increasing the probability of successful retransmission.
Wireless Buoy System with Remote Sensing and Access Capability

In this paper, high performance radio buoy system for inshore and deep sea fishery is proposed and implemented. Binary FSK modulation technique is used for real-time communication & control between buoys and buoy finder, and optimum access protocol is adopted for minimizing the power consumption of radio buoy system. Using the GPS and sensor techniques, location and environments of radio buoy can be accurately monitored and traced by the mother ship. Developed buoy system with 10 W transmitting power can cover over 120km coastal range and operate more than 73 days of battery life. Proposed digital coding methods can also assure high security from burglary and loss.
Energy Efficiency Routing Algorithm for Vessel Ubiquitous Sensor Network Environments

In this paper, we assume that sensor nodes organize the multi-hop networks, are fixed, and operate as full function devices(FFD). The wireless sensor network(WSN) only consists of mobile nodes without the assistance from the fixed infrastructure, which increases the flexibility of the network. However, it is difficult to perform routing in the WSN, since sensor nodes freely join in and drop out of the network, and some sensor nodes have very low power. We propose the algorithm combining routing schemes based on the bitmap and cluster methods in this paper. Through computer simulations, we show the validity of the proposed algorithm.
A Novel BOC Signal Synchronization Scheme for Maritime Satellite Communications

The satellite communication is an important method for maritime communications. Binary offset carrier (BOC) signal is a promising candidate of next generation global navigation satellite systems (GNSS). Synchronization of BOC signal is one of the most important processes to demodulate BOC signal in GNSS. However, in maritime environment, the synchronization of BOC signal is suffered from the problem of side-peak of BOC autocorrelation function and multipath fading caused by the sea surface reflection. In this paper, we proposed a novel synchronization scheme which can eliminate side-peak perfectly and is robust in multipath channel. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme has better performance than conventional schemes in multipath channel.
Underwater Channel Analysis and Transmission Method Research via Coded OFDM

The underwater channel is known to offer poor communications channel. The channel medium is highly absorptive and the transmission bandwidth is limited. In addition, the channel is highly frequency selective; the degree of selectiveness depends on a detailed geometry of the channel. Furthermore, the response changes over time as the channel conditions affecting the response such as water temperature, sea surface wind and salinity are time-varying. The transceiver design to deal with the frequency and time selective channel, therefore, becomes very challenging. It has been known that deep fading at certain specific sub-carriers are detrimental to OFDM systems. To mitigate this negative effect, the proposed coded OFDM system employs an LDPC code based modulation. In this paper, we aim 1) to provide a detailed underwater channel model; 2) to design a robust LDPC coded OFDM system; 3) to test the proposed system under a variety of channel conditions enabled by the channel model.
