Design and Performance Evaluation of Wireless Ad-Hoc Network System based on IEEE 802.16j MMR

In wireless ad hoc networks, packet loss and latency are frequently occurred by movement of node. As the number of transmission hops increases in these networks, the throughput is increasingly deteriorated. In this paper, we design the wireless ad hoc network system based on IEEE 802.16j MMR (Mobile Multi-hop Relay), which improves the network performance. Our wireless ad hoc network system used adaptively the nearest BS and Farthest BS scheduling algorithms for efficient data transmission and chose the optimal path that minimize data loss and latency. In order to evaluate performance of the wireless ad hoc network system based on IEEE 802.16j MMR, we used the LWX (Light Wimax) model of NS-2 simulator. Through the simulation, we analyzed the network performance for various scenarios.
Optimized Multipath Network Coding in Multirate Multi-Hop Wireless Network

In this paper, we propose a method for throughput improvement in multirate multihop wireless networks with intra-session network coding. A multirate transmission supports several rates so that it has a tradeoff between transmission rate and transmission range, therefore multirate can cope with the performance degradation. We present the rate selection method with intra-session network coding in multirate nodes. The effective transmission rate is calculated by using intra-session network coding, and then its maximum effective transmission rate is selected. Concurrent transmission set is determined by selected transmission rate and then the linear programming is formulated for throughput calculation in multihop wireless networks. We evaluate the performance by using MATLAB and lp_solve programs in two topologies. It is shown that the throughput of the proposed method is improved.
Throughput Analysis of ASO-TDMA in Multi-hop Maritime Communication Network

Ad Hoc Self-Organizing TDMA (ASO-TDMA) has been proposed as a specification to support the multi-hop data communication service for ships over VHF band. It allows for organizing a multi-hop ad-hoc network in a distributed manner by sharing the radio resources among the ships navigating along the route. In this paper, Markov chain analysis is given to provide the average throughput performance for ASO-TDMA protocol Furthermore, the analytical results are verified with computer simulation, which shows that there exists the optimal transmission rate to maximize the average throughput as the subframe size and the number of ships are varying in each hop region.
An Efficient Collision Resolution Method in Wireless Sensor Networks Based on IEEE 802.15.4 Slotted CSMA/CA

This paper addresses the collision resolution issue to enhance the performance of wireless sensor networks based on IEEE 802.15.4 slotted CSMA/CA. Some solutions in existing work try to solve this issue by adjusting Backoff Exponent (BE) value or Backoff Period (BP). In contrast to the existing solutions, the proposed scheme in this paper aims at providing high system throughput, but also achieving efficient energy consumption of sensor nodes by using Preamble Address (PA). For this, in the proposed scheme, only one sensor node begins data packet transmission by performing PA contention phase with other nodes before sending each data packet. Our simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms existing algorithms in terms of energy consumption and throughput.
Efficient Flooding Methods for Link-state Routing Protocols

In this paper, we propose an efficient flooding process on link-state routing protocol. It is possible to exchange information using typical link-state routing protocol; for example, OSPF(Open Short Path First) or IS-IS(Intermediate system routing protocol) that floods LSA between nodes when the network topology change occurs. However, while the scale of network is getting bigger, it affects the network extensibility because of the unnecessary LSA that causes the increasing utilization of CPU, memory and bandwidth. An existing algorithm based on the Minimum spanning tree has both network instability and inefficient flooding problem. So, we propose algorithm for efficient flooding while maintaining network stability. The simulation results show that the flooding of proposed algorithm is more efficient than existing algorithm.
An Energy Efficient Topology Control Algorithm using Additional Transmission Range Considering the Node Status in a Mobile Wireless Sensor Network

Topology control increases channel efficiency by controlling transmission power of a node, and as a result, network lifetime and throughput are increased. However, reducing transmission range causes a network connectivity problem, especially in mobile networks. When a network loses connectivity, the network topology should be re-configured. However, topology re-configuration consumes lots of energy because every node need to collect neighbor information. As a result, network lifetime may decrease, even though topology control is being used to prolong the network lifetime. Therefore, network connectivity time needs to be increased to expend network lifetime in mobile networks. In this paper, we propose an Adaptive-Redundant Transmission Range (A-RTR) algorithm to address this need. A-RTR uses a redundant transmission range considering a node status and flexibly changes a node`s transmission range after a topology control is performed.
3D Node Deployment and Network Configuration Methods for Improvement of Node Coverage and Network Connectivity

Sensors that are used on wireless sensor networks can be divided into two types: directional sensors, such as PIR, image, and electromagnetic sensors; and non-directional sensors, such as seismic, acoustic and magnetic sensors. In order to guarantee the line-of-sight of a directional sensor, the installation location of the sensor must be higher than ground level. Among non-directional sensors, seismic sensors should be installed on the ground in order to ensure the maximal performance. As a result, seismic sensors may have network connectivity problems due to communication failure. In this paper, we propose a 3D node deployment method to maximize the coverage and the network connectivity considering the sensor-specific properties. The proposed method is for non-directional sensors to be placed on the ground, while the directional sensor is installed above the ground, using trees or poles, to maximize the coverage. As a result, through the topology that the detection data from non-directional sensors are transmitted to the directional sensor, we can maximize the network connectivity. Simulation results show that our strategy improves sensor coverage and network connectivity.
The Analysis on Positioning Error of Recognition Schemes of Pilot Signal in Indoor TDoA Positioning System using Visible Light Communication

The visible light communication is considered as a next generation communication technology, when utilizes LED and PD for communication. Since it is easy to provide LOS communication environment along with cheap deployment cost, the positioning system based on VLC has been actively studied. However, the existing positioning system using VLC requires a complex computation and an additional deployment cost due to sensors for example. In this paper, we propose a new positioning system based on VLC which does not require additional complexity and the cost. In addition, the procedure for operating LED panels for positioning and the recognition schemes of pilot signal are proposed. The performance of recognition schemes of pilot signal is analyzed through the computer simulations.
A Design of Pipeline Chain Algorithm Based on Circuit Switching for MPI Broadcast Communication System

This paper proposes an algorithm and a hardware architecture for a broadcast communication which has the worst bottleneck among multiprocessor using distributed memory architectures. In conventional system, The pipelined broadcast algorithm is an algorithm which takes advantage of maximum bandwidth of communication bus. But unnecessary synchronization process are repeated, because the pipelined broadcast sends the data divided into many parts. In this paper, the MPI unit for pipeline chain algorithm based on circuit switching removing the redundancy of synchronization process was designed, the proposed architecture was evaluated by modeling it with systemC. Consequently, the performance of the proposed architecture was highly improved for broadcast communication up to 3.3 times that of systems using conventional pipelined broadcast algorithm, it can almost take advantage of the maximum bandwidth of transmission bus. Then, it was implemented with VerilogHDL, synthesized with TSMC 0.18um library and implemented into a chip. The area of synthesis results occupied 4,700 gates(2 input NAND gate) and utilization of total area is 2.4%. The proposed architecture achieves improvement in total performance of MPSoC occupying relatively small area.
Efficient Virtual Machine Migration for Mobile Cloud Using PMIPv6

In a cloud computing environment, various solutions were introduced to provide the service to users such as Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), Software as a Service (SaaS) and Desktop as a Service (DaaS). Nowadays, Mobile as a Service (MaaS) to provide the mobility in a cloud environment. In other words, users must have access to data and applications even when they are moving. Thus, to support the mobility to a mobile Thin-Client is the key factor. Related works to support the mobility for mobile devices were Mobile IPv6 and Proxy Mobile IPv6 which showed performance drawbacks such as packet loss during hand-over which could be very critical when collaborating with cloud computing environment. The proposed model in this paper deploys middleware and replica servers to support the data transmission among cloud and PMIPv6 domain. It supports efficient mobility during high-speed movement as well as high-density of mobile nodes in local mobility anchor. In this paper, through performance evaluation, the proposed scheme shows the cost comparison between previous PMIPv6 and verifies its significant efficiency.
Implementation of 40 Gb/s Network Processor of Wire-Speed Flow Management

We propose a network processor called an OmniFlow processor capable of wire-speed flow management by a hardware-based flow admission control(FAC) in this paper. Because the OmniFlow processor can set up and release a wire-speed connection for flows, the update period of flows can be set to a short time, and only active flows can be effectively managed by terminating a flow that does not have a packet transmitted within this period. Therefore, the FAC can be used to provide a reliable transmission of UDP as well as TCP applications. This processor is fabricated in 65nm CMOS technology, and total gate count is 25 million. It has 40 Gb/s throughput performance in using the 32 RISC cores when maximum operating frequency is 555MHz.
Test for Resource Service by the User Web Portal and the NSI based Network Resource Service Agent

The most representative research network in Korea, KREONET has developed the NSI based NSA (Network Service Agent) technology. The developed NSA supports web service and provides services for reservation, provision, release and termination of network resource, whenever users want to utilize them. In this paper, the system blocks of the developed NSA and flows of NSI interface massage are presented firstly, Also, service test results for NSI connection reservation is given through internet communication of the web portal system to operate as the RA NSA and the NSA, Finally, it is confirmed that reservation, provision, release and termination of network resource can be established through NSI messages based on reservation information from user, between the web portal and the NSA.
Software Platform Design and Implementation for Interworking between Smart TV, PC and Smart Phone

To provide convenient life, we consider the situation of using the smart phone to control smart TV and PC in home and office. In this paper, we design the interworking platform between smart TV, smart phone and PC, and implement their applications. Our smart phone application controls the smart TV and PC, where our smart TV application communicates with the smart phone and PC can be booted by the login and password information given form our smart phone application. We hope that our platform design and application implementation will be contributed to be a foundation of interworking between various smart devices in the near-future real smart life.
An Analysis of the Economic Effects of R&D Investment in the IT Industry

This study has conducted the economic effects of R&D investment in the IT industry using multi-regression analysis with three independent variables; capital stock, labor input and R&D stock. In this study, the IT industry has been categorized into three sub-industries; broadcasting communication appliances, information appliances and electronic components industry. Our analysis has found that auto-correlation shows considerable levels whereas figures of t-value and R-square show significant levels among all the IT sub-industries. Meanwhile, the values of R&D stock in the information appliances industry and that of labor input coefficients in the electronic components industry were minus, thus multi-collinearity was suspected. We have solved the problems regarding auto-correlation and multi-collinearity through Cochrane-Orcutt estimation and principal components analysis. This paper has derived the implications that R&D investment in the broadcasting communication industry is much more influential than any other IT sub-industry.
An improved algorithm for Detection of Elephant Flows

We proposed a scheme to accurately detect elephant flows. Along the ever increasing traffic trend, certain flows occupy the network heavily in terms of time and network bandwidth. These flows are called elephant flows. Elephant flows raises complicated issues to manage for Internet traffics and services. One of the methods to identify elephant flows is the Landmark LRU cache scheme, which improved the previous method of Least Recently Used scheme. We proposed a cache update algorithm, to further improve the existing Landmark LRU. The proposed scheme improves the accuracy to detect elephant flow while maintaining efficiency of Landmark LRU. We verified our algorithm by simulating on Sangmyung University`s wireless real network traces and evaluated the improvement.
