Noise-Robust Algorithm for PPG Signal Measurement

In this paper, we propose a methods to eliminate PPG sensor noise resulted from user motion during measurement. Measured PPG signals require approperiate signal processing methods since various types of noises such as a motion noise by user movement and signal noises occurred from the change of measuring environments. This paper suggests a signal processing method that eliminates motion noises by measuring several PPG channels that are based on the stable patterns of the practical users. The PPG signals are measured by the two channels in this experiment. When the individual error rates are 20%, the proposed algorithm reduces the errors to 9.56%.
Design of Rough Set Theory Based Disease Monitoring System for Healthcare

This paper proposes the RDMS(Rough Set Theory based Disease Monitoring System) which efficiently manages diseases in Healthcare System. The RDMS is made up of DCM(Data Collection Module), RDRGM(RST based Disease Rules Generation Module), and HMM(Healthcare Monitoring Module). The DCM collects bio-metric informations from bio sensor of patient and stores it in RDMS DB according to the processing procedure of data. The RDRGM generates disease rules using the core of RST and the support of attributes. The HMM predicts a patient's disease by analyzing not only the risk quotient but also that of complications on the patient's disease by using the collected patient's information by DCM and transfers a visualized patient's information to a patient, a family doctor, etc according to a patient's risk quotient. Also the HMM predicts the patient's disease by comparing and analyzing a patient's medical information, a current patient's health condition, and a patient's family history according to the rules generated by RDRGM and can provide the Patient-Customized Medical Service and the medical information with the prediction result rapidly and reliably.
Development of u-Health Care System for Dementia Patients

For patients who have senile mental disorder such as dementia, quantity of excercise and amount of sunlight are important clue for dose and the treatment. Therefore, monitoring health information of daily life is necessary for patients' safety and healthy life. Portable & wearable sensor device and server configuration monitoring data are needed to provide these services for patients. Watch-type device(smart watch) which patients wear and server system are developed in this paper. Smart watch developed includes GPS, accelerometer and illumination sensor, and can obtain real time health information by measuring the position of patients, quantity of exercise and amount of sunlight. Server system includes the sensor data analysis algorithm and web server that doctor and protector can monitor through sensor data acquired from smart watch. The proposed data analysis algorithm acquires quantity of exercise information and detects step count in patients' motion acquired from acceleration sensor and to verify this, the three cases with fast pace, slow pace, and walking pace show 96% of the experimental result. If developed u-Healthcare System for dementia patients is applied, more high-quality medical service can be provided to patients.
Novel License Plate Detection Method Based on Heuristic Energy

License Plate Detection (LPD) is a key component in automatic license plate recognition system. Despite the success of License Plate Recognition (LPR) methods in the past decades, the problem is quite a challenge due to the diversity of plate formats and multiform outdoor illumination conditions during image acquisition. This paper aims at automatical detection of car license plates via image processing techniques. In this paper, we proposed a real-time and robust method for license plate detection using Heuristic Energy Map(HEM). In the vehicle image, the region of license plate contains many components or edges. We obtain the edge energy values of an image by using the box filter and search for the license plate region with high energy values. Using this energy value information or Heuristic Energy Map(HEM), we can easily detect the license plate region from vehicle image with a very high possibilities. The proposed method consists two main steps: Region of Interest (ROI) Detection and License Plate Detection. This method has better performance in speed and accuracy than the most of existing methods used for license plate detection. The proposed method can detect a license plate within 130 milliseconds and its detection rate is 99.2% on a 3.10-GHz Intel Core i3-2100(with 4.00 GB of RAM) personal computer.
3D Indoor Positioning System Based on Smartphone

For providing personalized intelligent services to users, 3 dimensional indoor positioning technology to recognize the position of person and equipment becomes important. In this paper, the acoustic signal generated from the proliferated smart phone is received from the 5 microphones equipped in the front panel of 3D positioning system, and the two proposed methods estimate the 3D coordinate of the smart phone, and finally it is verified using the implemented experimental system.
Distributed Hashing-based Fast Discovery Scheme for a Publish/Subscribe System with Densely Distributed Participants

Pub/sub system enables data users to access any necessary data without knowledge of the data producer and synchronization with the data producer. It is widely used as the middleware technology for the data-centric services. DDS (Data Distribution Service) is a standard middleware supported by the OMG (Object Management Group), one of global standardization organizations. It is considered quite useful as a standard middleware for US military services. However, it is well-known that it takes considerably long time in searching the Participants and Endpoints in the system, especially when the system is booting up. In this paper, we propose a discovery scheme to reduce the latency when the participants and Endpoints are densely distributed in a small area. We propose to modify the standard DDS discovery process in three folds. First, we integrate the Endpoint discovery process with the Participant discovery process. Second, we reduce the number of connections per participant during the discovery process by adopting the concept of successors in Distributed Hashing scheme. Third, instead of UDP, the participants are connected through TCP to exploit the reliable delivery feature of TCP. We evaluated the performance of our scheme by comparing with the standard DDS discovery process. The evaluation results show that our scheme achieves quite lower discovery latency in case that the Participants and the Endpoints are densely distributed in a local network.

Artificial cochlear implant system is known as the most efficient and widespread device to patients who have cochlear disorder. However, current commercialized artificial cochleas have inconveniences because of large volume size and high power consumption, requiring further research on improvements in terms of the size, power, and performance. In this paper, we will introduce our fully implantable artificial cochlear implant system, where small-size sensors and actuators are wirelessly connected, focusing on communication system design and its performance simulation.
System Level Space Environment Testing of Satellite Digital Transponder

EQM Model Digital transponder applying the Korean's own designing and manufacturing technology has gone through a series of trials and errors during the development. In particular, lack of thermal designs expedience for the vacuum causes variety of errors in designing, assembling transponder and setting up the test at the first thermal vacuum test (TVAC). Since the first TVAC test could not accomplished its aims successfully, so the second TVAC should be performed as make up test with revised Digital transponder. In this paper, the defects that identified in the first TVAC are analyzed and applied solutions and its results at the second TVAC are presented. Using the lessons from the first and second TVAC, we will be able to make more reliable digital transponders in the next phase of project. In addition it also be useful as a reference when we design another satellite payloads.
Reliability Analysis of Dual-Channel CAN bus for Submarine Combat System

Thanks to various benefits, low-cost real-time communication networks so called fieldbus have been widely used in many industrial applications including military systems, such as aircrafts, submarines, and robots. This paper presents a reliability analysis of dual-channel CAN(Controller Area Network) fieldbus which is used for controlling various equipment of submarine combat system. A submarine combat system playing a critical role to the success of missions and survivability consists of various devices including sensors/actuators and computers. Since a communication network for submarine combat system must satisfy an extremely high level of reliability, a dual channel technique is commonly adopted. In this paper, a Petri Net based reliability model for dual-channel CAN is discussed. A reliability model called generalized stochastic Petri Nets (GSPN) is built by utilizing the information on physical faults with CAN. The effectiveness of the proposed model is analyzed in terms of unreliability with respect to failure rate and repair rate.
Performance Analysis of DDS for Distribution Network Management System Suitable for Satellite Communication

Trend of next generation satellite communication network is distribution and enlargement of network structure with increased network terminals, and traffic which use satellite communication is increasing and frequently occurring. Under specific satellite communication environment that various communication device dynamically forms a network domain and frequently exchanges the data, data-centric publish/subscribe data exchange is more suitable than server/client data exchange. So, this paper analyze DDS performance for application of DDS standard to distribution network management system which aims to efficiently manage limited satellite resource, and also this paper covers comparative study on DDS and SNMP(server/client data exchange). Study compares DDS and SNMP using OPNET, and result of study is analyzed from a network layer performance perspective.
Methodology of Interoperating Link-K Track Number in Multi TDLs

In modern warfare, the main factor of triumph is superior situation awareness which leads rapid command decision and precisely guided munition, and TDL(Tactical Data Link) is the main communicational enabler. ROK forces currently operate Link-16 with allied forces and are also developing Korean national data link, Link-K which is also planned to be cooperated with Link-16. Assigning participant and track numbers needs agreement between ROK and allied forces, but ROK forces have exclusive authority in assigning numbers in Link-K. This paper proposes the effective method of exchange participant and track numbers between Link-16 and Link-K, and applicability verification in operational test and evaluation will be also presented.
Real-Time Shooting Area Analysis Algorithm of UAV Considering Three-Dimensional Topography

In this paper, based on the information about navigation system of UAV with PTZ camera and 3D topography, algorithm able to show us in real-time UAV's geographical shooting location and automatically calculate superficial measure of the shooting area is proposed. And the method that can automatically estimate whether UAV is allowed to shoot a specific area is shown. In case of an UAV's shooting attempt at the specific area, obtainability of valid image depends on not only UAV's location but also information of 3D topography. As a result of the study, Ground Control Center will have real-time information about whether UAV can shoot the needed topography. Therefore, accurate remote flight control will be possible in real-time. Furthermore, the algorithm and the method of estimating shooting probability can be applied to pre-flight simulation and set of flight route.
Location Estimation for Multiple Targets Using Expanded DFS Algorithm

This paper proposes the location estimation techniques of distributed targets with the multi-sensor data perceived through IR sensors of the military robots in consideration of obstacles. In order to match up targets with measured azimuths, to add to the depth-first search (DFS) algorithms in free-obstacle environment, we suggest the expanded DFS (EDS) algorithm including bypass path search, partial path search, middle level ending, and the supplementation of decision metric. After matching up targets with azimuths, we estimate the coordinate of each target by obtaining the intersection point of the azimuths with the least square error (LSE) algorithm. The experimental results show the error rate of estimated location, mean number of calculating nodes, and mean distance between real coordinates and estimated coordinates of the proposed algorithms.
Analysis of Anti-Jamming Techniques for Satellite Navigation Systems

GNSS(Global Navigation Satellite System) is now being widely used in both civilian and military applications where accurate positioning and timing information are required and it is considered as a representative convergence technique in IT-Military application techniques. However, GNSS has low sensitivity level of GNSS receivers and is vulnerable to jamming signal, since the signals come from the satellite located at approximately 20,000 Km above the earth. The studies for the anti-jamming techniques in military applications have been passively performed in the domestic, because the information related GNSS are dependent on the countries that have GNSS. In this paper, we show the effect of jammer ERP by analyzing the link budget of GPS J/S power as a function of distance between jammer and receiver. Also, we categorize the anti-jamming techniques based on the functional block diagram of GNSS receiver structure and analyze the recent anti-jamming GNSS products and their technologies developed in domestic and foreign countries.
LVC-Interoperation Development Framework for Acquiring High Reliable Cyber-Physical Weapon Systems

In this paper, we present a development framework for acquiring intelligent but complex cyber-physical weapon systems based on modeling and simulation development tools for cyber-physical systems, EcoSUITE. We introduce EcoPOD that models weapon systems and EcoSIM that provides constructive simulation environment for interoperating the weapon model to be developed with other weapon models. To develop cyber-physical weapon system based on LVC interoperation, an interoperation architecture and an interface technique for a live and a virtual system that is compliant with the interoperation architecture. By expanding EcoSuite, we provide LVC-based development framework for interoperating a real system, a human-interactive interface system, and simulation models and validate it with a case study.
