Soft-Decision Algorithm with Low Complexity for MIMO Systems Using High-Order Modulations

In a log likelihood ratio(LLR) calculation of the detected symbol, multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO) system applying an optimal or suboptimal algorithm such as a maximum likelihood(ML) detection, sphere decoding(SD), and QR decomposition with M-algorithm Maximum Likelihood Detection(QRM-MLD) suffers from exponential complexity growth with number of spatial streams and modulation order. In this paper, we propose a LLR calculation method with very low complexity in the QRM-MLD based symbol detector for a high order modulation based
MIMO system. It is able to approach bit error rate(BER) performance of full maximum likelihood detector to within 1 dB. We also analyze the BER performance through computer simulation to verify the validity of the proposed method.
Performance Improvement of STDR Scheme Employing Sign Correlator

This paper proposes an enhanced scheme adding a sign detector at the front of the correlator in STDR (sequence time domain reflectometry) system. We have executed simulations to show the improvement of detection performance in two fault types and various fault locations. Consequently, it can be shown that the proposed scheme improves the detection performance of the location of far-fault without increasing the computational complexity.
Vertical Sectorization Techniques in MISO Downlink Active Antenna Systems

In this paper, we study vertical sectorization techniques in multiple-input single-output (MISO) downlink active antenna systems (AAS). In the AAS, antenna beam patterns can be adjusted in each sector and multiple vertical beams can form the vertical sectorization. Since an exhaustive search based vertical sectorization algorithm requires high computational complexity to find the optimal tilt angles, we propose two vertical sectorization algorithms to reduce the complexity. First, we provide an asymptotic sum rate based algorithm which utilizes a large system approximation of the average sum rate based on the random matrix theory. Next, by using the result in the single sector transmission, the single sector based algorithm is proposed. In the simulation results, we confirm that the proposed algorithms are close to the performance of the exhaustive search algorithm with much reduced complexity.
Uplink Pilot Signal Design for Mobile Wireless Backhaul

In this paper, an uplink pilot signal structure is proposed for millimeter wave(mmWave)-based mobile wireless backhaul. For the transmit diversity of two antenna ports, uplink pilot signals generated from the Zadoff-Chu sequence can be mapped in an interleaved mode or continuous mode on the frequency axis, and channel estimation algorithms are different depending on the pilot signal mapping schemes. Through a simulation under Rayleigh fading channel assuming a subway scenario, the interleaved mapping scheme showed no performance degradation compared to the continuous mapping scheme and the implementation complexity of the uplink channel estimator was reduced due to the interleaved mapping scheme.
Antenna Polarization Isolation and Resource Control for Frequency Interference Reduction Between Opposite Sectors

This paper presents the method of antenna polarization isolation and resource control for frequency interference reduction due to the frequency reuse between opposite sectors. We have examined the frequency interference between opposite sectors which is occurred by operating base station for reducing frequency interference. The base station has a frequency reusing structure in opposite sector. So, the base station can make a in-band frequency interference. In order to minimize frequency interference, we proposed two methods. The first is the antenna polarization isolation method. The CINR was improved to 27dB from 17dB when using the antenna polarization isolation. The second is resource control which is the method for lining up the RF power and limiting RF power control range of each link. In this paper, by using the proposed two methods, presents a scheme that reduces frequency interference in the frequency reusing structure.
A Signal Detection and Estimation Method Based on Compressive Sensing

Compressive sensing is a new data acquisition method enabling the reconstruction of sparse or compressible signals from a smaller number of measurements than Nyquist rate, as long as the signal is sparse and the measurement is incoherent. In this paper, we consider a simple hypothesis testing in target detection and estimation problems using compressive sensing, where the performance depends on the sparsity level of the signals being detected. We provide theoretical analysis results along with some experiment results.
Optimal Flow Distribution Algorithm for Efficient Service Function Chaining

Service function chaining(SFC) defines the creation of network services that consist of an ordered set of service function. A multiple service function instances should be deployed across networks for scalable and fault-tolerant SFC services. Therefore, an incoming flows should be distributed to multiple service function instances appropriately. In this paper, we formulate the flow distribution problem in SFC aiming at minimizing the end-to-end flow latency under resource constraints. Then, we evaluate its optimal solution in a realistic network topology generated by the GT-ITM topology generator. Simulation results reveal that the optimal solution can reduce the total flow latency significantly.
Study on the 3GPP International Standard for M2M Communication Networks

This study is investigated for M2M Communication Network Standard based on 3GPP. The environment of M2M communication, we can predict the new mobile service that gathering, handling, controlling, transferring of the data for Intelligence, so that we can consider new direction for a lot of subject of study development issue. This study is shown three types of M2M network structure and four types of use cases on 3GPP International Standard. In Addition, we can introduce the future M2M communication network model, it can be propagate the industry and academic cooperation with 3GPP standards. The suggestion develops multiple applications and multiple devices for industry and academic. With the deployment of network provider, this environment support our current communication market that the standard devices of M2M network and service requirement. We are suggest this study for grasp the initial market with the intellectual property right (IPR) based on International Standards. In the future, we wish the success that grap the initial market or initial academic study with helpful issue.
Fast MAS Reallocation Method for Efficient Video Streaming Service of WiMedia MAC DRP

In this paper, we propose a fast MAS reallocation method that can avoid reservation conflicts in the DRP process of WiMedia system in real time. WiMedia MAC DRP has been developed aimed QoS support for audio and video transmission that generate traffic periodically. The size variation of the video streaming data causes DRP reservation conflicts frequently, so that DRP could not support QoS of the video streaming service which is delay-sensitive. Fast MAS reallocation method could avoid reservation conflicts in real-time analyzing reservation requests information of the other device. Our proposed method is evaluated with test sequences using the software simulation and implemented in hardware/software with the integrated WiMedia MAC/PHY system.
Energy-Efficient Face Routing Protocol Considering Radio Range in Wireless Sensor Networks

In wireless sensor networks, geographic routing is known as an efficient method to transmit the data packet using the location information. Geographic routing relies on two techniques: greedy forwarding and face routing. Face routing helps to recover from greedy routing fail and is based on the planar graph in which does not cross each edge. However, the planarization causes frequently short transmission of data packet because it removes other edges except the shortest one. In other words, since the planarization removes the long edges, face routing could not exploit the efficient removed edges of communication graph. This problem brings about the excessive energy consumption of nodes. In this paper, we propose an energy efficient face routing protocol in wireless sensor networks. This proposed protocol searches the removed edges and transmits them via the edges. Simulation shows that the proposed protocol is more efficient in terms of energy consumption than the previous face routing.
SDN-Based Intrusion Prevention System for Science DMZ

In this paper, we introduce an SDN-based intrusion prevention system for more secure Science DMZ with no performance limits. The proposed system is structured with intrusion-prevention, intrusion-detection, and prevention-decision subsystems which are physically distributed but informationally connected by an SDN interface. The functional distribution and the application of SDN technology increase the flexibility and extensibility of the proposed system and prevent performance degradation possibly caused by network security equipments on Science DMZ. We verified the feasibility and performance of the proposed system over a testbed set up at KREONET.

This work proposes a theoretic framework for the performance assessment of an access point in the IP network that accommodates MD (Machine Data) and HD (Human Data). First, we investigate typical resource allocation methods in LTE for MD and HD. After that we carry out a Max-Min analysis about the surplus and deficiency of network resource seen from MD and HD. Finally, we evaluate the performance via numerical experiment.

Cache mechanism, which has been a research subject for a significant period of time in computer science, has become realized in the form of web caching in network practice. Web caching has various advantages, such as saving of network resources and response time reduction, depends its performance on cache replacement policy, therefore, analysis and consideration of the environment in which a web cache operates is essential for designing better replacement policies. Thus, in the current web environment where is rapidly changing relative to the past, a new cache replacement policy is necessary to reflect those changes. In this paper we stipulate some characteristics of the web at present, propose a new cache replacement policy, and evaluate it.
Secure Camera Network System for Intelligent Surveillance Systems Based on Real-Time Video

To provide social security and for cooperative smart camera context awareness processing, each camera stores and exchange context data. For a specific event, measured values with other context data is stored RDB. RDB is transformed to ontology RDF file and is used for context reasoning. Interoperability between smart cameras conforms to ONVIF and constitutes intelligent surveillance system. To guarantee the confidentiality and integrity, securiy techniques are adopted. Security overhead between agents is analyzed in the prototype system implemented.

The number of phishing/pharming attacks occurring has increased and consequently, the number of studies on anti-phishing/pharming has also increased. The target sites of phishing/pharming are financial sites, and these have a low connection rate compared to those of portal sites. In this paper, we propose an anti-phishing/pharming method that uses a portal site as a stopover. The proposed method is based on the reliability of portal sites. This method is intended for general users rather than for professional users or developers. We also analyze the safety of the proposed method by separating the method into sub components of module safety assumption.
Load Distribution Method over Multiple Controllers in SDN

In this paper, we propose a load distribution scheme in SDN utilizing load redirection, enabling incoming messages to be migrated to another controller. Specifically, when the capacity of a controller reaches a threshold, the controller makes incoming packets be migrated to a less-loaded controller to prevent them from being blocked. Analytical result shows that our scheme has lower blocking probability than the conventional scheme.
Mathematical Model of Variable-Length Payloads for EDCA and Multi-User MIMO Based Wireless LAN

In this letter, we propose a mathematical model of variable-length payloads transmitted in EDCA and transmitted using MU-MIMO. Assuming fixed-length or the use of mean value of payload length leads to discordant results while calculating the total payload length of variable-length frames transmitted within a fixed duration. Using the proposed model results in accurate results (less than 3% relative errors) for total payload length under variable-length traffic.
User-Adaptive Movement Noise Detection Algorithm Using Wavelet Transform

In this paper, we propose an algorithm to detect movement noise in PPG(Photoplethysmography) measurements. Movement noise significantly deteriorate PPG signals in measurement, so that a movement noise detection algorithm is critical before using measured PPG signals for applications such as diagnosis. To detect movement noise, we apply wavelet transform to PPG signals instead of short-time Fourier transform and decide if the measured signlas include movement noise. To that end, we adaptively choose a wavelet, which is the most similar to the subject's PPG pattern. In the case when movement noise is intentionally added in the 20% and 30% of the total experiment time, our algorithm detects time-slots including movement and outperforms previous works.
Ship Positioning Estimation Using Phased Array Antenna in FMCW Radar System for Small-Sized Ships

Conventionally, a pulse radar is used for middle-sized or large-sized ships to detect other ships or obstacles located at a long distance. However, it is hardly equipped for most of the small-sized ships due to mounting and maintenance costs. Therefore, FMCW(frequency modulated continuous wave) radar is suggested as an alternative for the small-sized ships. Since it operates with low power and has good range resolution for relatively close objects, it is eligible for the small-sized ships. In previously proposed FMCW radar system, it only estimates distance and velocity of a target ship placed in the direction of main beam and is hard to detect several ships simultaneously. Thus, we suggest the method for detecting several ships at the same time by applying MUSIC(multiple signal classification) algorithm to FMCW radar signal received by a phased array antenna. In addition, by combining digital beam forming with the MUSIC algorithm, better angle resolution is achievable.
A Multi-Start Local Search Algorithm Finding Minimum Connected Dominating Set in Wireless Sensor Networks

As a method to increase the scalability and efficiency of wireless sensor networks, a scheme to construct networks hierarchically has received considerable attention among researchers. Researches on the methods to construct wireless networks hierarchically have been conducted focusing on how to select nodes such that they constitute a backbone network of wireless network. Nodes comprising the backbone network should be connected themselves and can cover other remaining nodes. A problem to find the minimum number of nodes which satisfy these conditions is known as the minimum connected dominating set (MCDS) problem. The MCDS problem is NP-hard, therefore there is no efficient algorithm which guarantee the optimal solutions for this problem at present. In this paper, we propose a novel multi-start local search algorithm to solve the MCDS problem efficiently. For the performance evaluation of the proposed method, we conduct extensive experiments and report the results.
Throughput Performance Evaluation According to The State Change of A Primary Ship in Maritime Cognitive Radio Networks

The maritime cognitive radio networks (MCRNs) provide the high throughput with a low communication cost because the secondary ships opportunistically access to unused licensed bands of primary ships. In the ground cognitive radio networks, the busy and idle state of a primary user during a frame is not nearly changed because the state of the primary user are slowly changed. However, the state of the primary ship in the MCRNs may be frequently changed in the frame. Therefore, this paper evaluates the throughput of a primary ship and secondary ships in the MCRNs taking the state change of a primary ship into consideration when the fusion center uses the cooperative spectrum sensing. The simulation results show that trade-off between the throughput of a primary ship and that of secondary ships according to the system parameter such as the cooperative spectrum sensing scheme, the number of secondary ships, and the target detection probability.
The Smart Learning System for English Language Using Hangeul

In this paper, we developed a Web App that operates in a mobile device. Also, we designed and developed an electronic dictionary of English words and sentences are expressed by English pronunciation with hangeul. The database using English words, Hangeul code with pictures, vocabulary definitions, speech sound files, and many sentences are created in this system. We developed the English learning system using HTML5 and m-Bizmaker software tools.
Rapid Management Mechanism Against Harmful Materials of Agri-Food Based on Big Data Analysis

There were the attempts to prevent the spread of harmful materials of the agri-food through the record tracking of the products with the bar code, the partial information tracking of the agri-food storage and the delivery vehicle, or the control of the temperature by intuition. However, there were many problems in the attempts because of the insufficient information, the information distortion and the independent information network of each distribution company. As a result, it is difficult to prevent the spread over the life-cycle of the agri-food using the attempts. To solve the problems, we propose the mechanism mainly to do context awareness, predict, and track the harmful materials of agri-food using big data processing.
Up-Sampling Method of Depth Map Using Weighted Joint Bilateral Filter

A depth map is an image which contains 3D distance information. Generally, it is difficult to acquire a high resolution (HD), noise-removed, good quality depth map directly from the camera. Therefore, many researches have been focused on acquisition of the high resolution and the good quality depth map by up-sampling and pre/post image processing of the low resolution depth map. However, many researches are lack of effective up-sampling for the edge region which has huge impact on image perceptual-quality. In this paper, we propose an up-sampling method, based on joint bilateral filter, which improves up-sampling of the edge region and visual quality of synthetic images by adopting different weights for the edge parts that is sensitive to human perception characteristics. The proposed method has gains in terms of PSNR and subjective video quality compared to previous researches.
A WPAN Protocol for N-Screen Services in Indoor and Ship Area Networks

A wireless bridge is essential to transmit control and managing information to sensors or instruments from a central integrated ship area network station. In this paper, a WPAN protocol is adopted for development of a seamless N-screen wireless service in Indoor and Ship Area Networks. Furthermore, to provide the OSMU (One Source Multi Use) N-screen service through P2P streaming in the seamless WPAN protocol, a Grid-based WPAN networking technology is proposed and analyzed. The proposed Grid-based WPAN networking technology supports multi-path and fast path-setup functions for N-screen communications. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed Grid-based WPAN networking technology outperforms the IEEE 802.15.4 based network in terms of N-screen transmission delay.
A Study on the Multi-Carrier System for Throughput Enhancement in Underwater Channel Environments

Studies applying multiple carrier method such as OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) or FMT(Filtered Multi-Tone) to Underwater acoustic communication(UAC) system are actively under way as UAC is utilized in the various fields and the demand of high speed data transmission increases. In the existing OFDM method, the use of virtual carrier, which is inserted not to affect the adjacent channel in the frequency domain, and the cyclic prefix, which is used to reduce the impact of Inter Symbol Interference and Inter Channel Interference, decrease the throughput. In particular, the length of cyclic prefix to be used becomes longer under water since underwater has a rapidly changing channel characteristic, and the data throughput diminishes because it has to allocate more subcarrier on virtual carrier. This study therefore suggests FMT-OFDM system, a combination of OFDM and FMT, for the purpose of enhanced throughput in the underwater channel environment. Besides, in this study, channel is modeled based on data measured in real sea and the performance is analyzed after setting system parameters.
Development of a Gateway System Between Underwater and Land Network and Real-Sea performance Test

A gateway buoy system connects a underwater network to a terrestrial network, which enables to efficiently monitor the underwater network on a land station. In this paper, we introduce an implemented gateway buoy system which relays gathered data from multiple underwater nodes to a land station in a real time. The gateway buoy hardware system is composed of a underwater acoustic modem system, a radio frequency modem system, and a gateway operating system. in additional, we have implemented a land operating program and a land monitoring program for gateway system and states of underwater network, respectively. We also perform real-sea experiments to verify the performance of the gateway buoy system which real-time monitors underwater network states and gateway system states.
Buffer Management for Improving Performance in WiMedia WLP-Based Mobile IP Networks of Ship Area

In this paper, we use WiMedia WLP-based networks to meet the demand for IT services of a ship. If a mobile node moves to a congested base station of a new subnetwork, we will propose a scheme for improving performance of radio link of existing communicating mobile nodes. An old base station denotes packets stored during a handover. And, a proposed buffer management determines to discard the buffered packets in accordance with congestion degree at the congested new base station. Simulation results show that the proposed buffer management scheme improves link utilization in congested wireless links.
