DOI : 10.1633/JIM.2003.34.4.001
This research aims to find an optimal space program and analysis of optimal land of the national model of the scientific and technical information center. And the objective of this study is to contribute to strengthen the need of the building of information center and provide operation programs and vision toward information center which will be established later. We suggested a basic plan of scale and space program for proper space uses and optimal facilities and state-ofthe-art equipment of building. Also, we selected alternative land by document study, and suggested optimal land by field works and studies.
A Study on the Digital Reference Service Based on Resource Sharing
Nam, Tae-Woo ; Choi, Hung-Sik ;
Journal of Information Management, volume 34, issue 4, 2003, Pages 19~42
DOI : 10.1633/JIM.2003.34.4.019
Reference services have taken a central place in library and information services. But current digital libraries focus more on access to digital information, and hardly lay emphasis on the service aspects. This paper looks at the current state of research in reference services in digital libraries. It first analyses some representative definitions of digital reference services. It then provides a brief overview of the various online reference and information services currently available on the Web. The paper also reviews the types of the digital reference service in major `Aska` service sites. Finally, the paper proposes new digital reference service model that specifically bases on the sharing of the human and information.
The Construction of Sensibility Thesaurus Based on Color
Nam, Young-Joon ;
Journal of Information Management, volume 34, issue 4, 2003, Pages 43~61
DOI : 10.1633/JIM.2003.34.4.043
The aim of this article is to study the new searching tool for era of multimedia. Thesaurus is a useful tool but is constituted with noun phrase including the adjective for retrieving the human Sensibility. Therefore, I experimentally construct the Sensibility thesaurus using the color scale which contains the Sensibility meanings. Terms are 261, Relation standards are distance and ratio of reiteration between the terms. I would use an exclusive program of the thesaurus construction for Sensibility adjective.
A Research on the Implementation and Estimation of an Integrated System for Information Management in the Field of Nuclear Science and Engineering
Chun, Young-Choon ;
Journal of Information Management, volume 34, issue 4, 2003, Pages 63~84
DOI : 10.1633/JIM.2003.34.4.063
This research is a case study that describes the NUCLIS21(Nuclear Information System 21), an integrated web-based information management system of KAERI(Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute), implemented to carry out the role of a national nuclear information center with government support as an information infra implementation programme. Through its user-centered single interface, the system aims at building an infrastructure for the national nuclear information center, as well as improving the information management system of the TID(Technical Information Department) within the institute. The system consists of two major parts which are an integrated module of the MIS and six different kinds of system. These include the Integral search system with OPAC, My Library, the Acquisition system, the Catalogue system, the Information Supply system, and the Serial Publication system. The DB is composed of Bibliographical DB, Original text DB and Abstract DB. A special feature of this system was designed as a unified network system through connection to MIS(Management Integration System) of the institute, so users can get research information for projects. Therefore, they have access to available information easily and access to the ongoing service of this system. Furthermore, users can share information by using our system. The survey has it that 75.7%(200 persons), 62.1%(164 persons) and 78.4%(207 persons) of the respondents are satisfied with the fidelity, speediness, and convenience of the system respectively, and the overall satisfaction of the respondents is comparably high.
A Study on Improvement of the Collection Development Strategy in the Sci-Tech Journals : Usage analysis from 1997/2002
Joung, Hyun-Tae ; Hwang, Hye-Kyong ;
Journal of Information Management, volume 34, issue 4, 2003, Pages 85~107
DOI : 10.1633/JIM.2003.34.4.085
This paper describes the results of a usage analysis on the scientific and technical journals in order to optimize the collection development at KISTI. By comparing usage data for the journals from 1997/2002, this study identifies the short-term changes in journal use, which were shown on the subject field, language, publication country, SCI journal and electronic journal. The changing of journal use has important implications for collection development strategy in sci-tech libraries.
