Construction of Knowledge Classification Scheme for Sharing and Usage of Knowledge : a Case Study in KAERI
Yoo, Jae-Bok ;
Journal of Information Management, volume 35, issue 1, 2004, Pages 1~27
DOI : 10.1633/JIM.2004.35.1.001
To share knowledge efficiently among our members on the basis of knowledge management system, first of all, we need to systematically design the knowledge classification scheme that we can classify these knowledge well. The objective of this study is to construct the most suitable knowledge classification scheme that all of us can share them in Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI). To construct the knowledge classification scheme all over the our organization, we established a few principles to design it and examined related many classification schemes. And I carried out 3 steps to complete the best desirable KAERI's knowledge classification scheme, that is, (1) the step to design a draft of the knowledge classification scheme, (2) the step to revise a draft of the knowledge classification scheme, (3) the step to verify the revised scheme and to decide its scheme. The scheme completed as a results of this study is consisted of total 218 items : sections of 8 items, classes of 43 items and sub-classes of 167 items. I expect that the knowledge classification scheme designed as the results of this study can be played an important role as the frame to efficiently share knowledge among our members when we introduce knowledge management system in our organization. In addition, I expect that steps to design its scheme as well as this scheme itself can be applied when design a knowledge classification scheme at the other R&D institutes and enterprises.
A Study on the Collection Development Policy of Electronic Materials of Special Libraries
Park, Hee-Sook ;
Journal of Information Management, volume 35, issue 1, 2004, Pages 29~49
DOI : 10.1633/JIM.2004.35.1.029
The purpose of this study is to suggest formulation of collection development policies of electronic materials for special libraries related to economy and society. First, according to the basic directions and aims of special libraries, the written collection development policies should be codified. Second, the electronic materials selection committee or collection development committee should be formed at the organization level. Third, the special libraries should make advantageous contracts of purchase based on the cooperations between libraries through the formation of a consortium. Fourth, librarians in charge of collection development need to have substantial work abilities to cope with their role and expertism in the electronic environment. Fifth, to activate electronic materials, the strategy for budget increases should be made.

Park, Yau-Won ;
Journal of Information Management, volume 35, issue 1, 2004, Pages 51~69
DOI : 10.1633/JIM.2004.35.1.051
Libraries have been made effect to satisfy customer by reflecting information need of customer on libraries. They have considered introducing the data mining techniques to analyze complicated and massive data of libraries and the Customer Relationship Management(CRM) to produce suitable services to each customer segmentation. The purpose of this study is to apply the CRM and data mining techniques to a library, ultimately intends to suggest rules for the collection management and the customer management.
A Study on the Operation and Special Quality of the Records Disposition Schedule
Park, Yoo-Jin ;
Journal of Information Management, volume 35, issue 1, 2004, Pages 71~91
DOI : 10.1633/JIM.2004.35.1.071
This study focuses on establishing a base for approaching record disposition schedules, which may be felt unfamiliar, through the overview of record disposition schedules. For this purpose, this study examined the meaning of record disposition schedules, the significance and principle of their elements, and their operation. In addition, it presented tasks to perform for record disposition schedules to play a central role of record management in the future. This study showed that record disposition schedules authorize people to control and process records, and are closely related to the development and the stability of record disposition system in Korea. What is more, it proved that record disposition schedules enable the assessment of the historical values of records, so it is possible to maintain records from the perspective of historical records. Besides, record disposition schedules are important in that they contain information on organizations and their functions, based on which we can preserve and manage extrinsic information about records.
A Study on the Forecasting Model of Technology Life Cycles by Analysis of US Patent Citation
Yoo, Sun-Hi ;
Journal of Information Management, volume 35, issue 1, 2004, Pages 93~112
DOI : 10.1633/JIM.2004.35.1.093
This study is intend to analyze the cited patent life time of US patent data via more objective way. It is based on exploratory approach which is one of various methods for technology forecasting. The life spans of cited patents of specific technological field are deduced from using informetric analysis of USPA database of KISTI, which is composed of US patent data covered from 1972 to present. The statistics of the results may help to estimate the economic life span of the specific technological area for technology valuation.
