A Survey of the Science and Technology Information System of Korea, China, and Japan for Resource Sharing

Korea, China and Japan are in great demand for each other’s science and technology information since they geographically lie adjacent and have common interest in a variety of science and technology fields. Yet, they have difficulties in obtaining the other two countries’ information due to the lack of an appropriate system to access the information and also to restrictions such as a language barrier. The purpose of this study is to suggest the ways of sharing science and technology information among Korea, Japan and China. It surveys the national science and technology information systems and policies of each country and proposes four stages of resource sharing.
The Effective Management of Grey Literature of Science and Technology in Korea

Grey literature can be used as a substantial resource in Research & Development but it has trouble to manage. This study aimed at getting a better way to manage the grey literature by grasping the present problems in collecting, organizing and using the grey literature. This research studied the definition, type, and characteristics, usabilities of grey literature from the related materials and it performs the case study on how to manage the grey literature in major institutions. Finally, it suggested management method of various materials through the in-depth interview with the staffs in charge of managing grey literature in government institutes.
A Study on the Data Modeling and Metadata Elements of System Based on FRBR for Music Resources

This study develops and presents data modeling and metadata elements in order to build system based on FRBR for music resources. This process intends to build bibliographic system to systematically manage and efficiently retrieve music resources.
A Study on the Effects of Transformational and Transactional Leadership of Middle Managers on the Empowerment of University Librarians in Korea

This study is to analyze impacts that the transformational and transactional leadership of middle managers at university libraries affects the empowerment of university librarians and to suggest future directions of leadership development aimed at improving the empowerment of university librarians. The results of this study are summarized as follows: The transformational and transactional leadership showed a positive effect on empowerment in university librarians. The most influential factors of transformational leadership on the empowerment factors showed `individualized consideration’ on the three empowerment factors except `impact’ and `individualized consideration’ and `intellectual stimulation’ on the `impact’ of empowerment. And the most influential factors of transactional leadership on the empowerment factors showed `contingent reward’. The transformational leadership showed a greater relative impact on empowerment when compared with the transactional leadership.
Customer Satisfaction and Loyalty of Academic Library Users Based on Their Perceptions of Library Service Quality

This study investigates the influences of the perceptions on the dimensions of the library service quality (library staff, supports for the service, library materials and information resources, and facilities and equipments) of academic library users on the customer satisfaction, importance of the services, and the loyalty (reuse intentions). Based on the questionnaires surveyed from 403 undergraduate students of the K University, it analyzed the data using SPSS 12.0. All four dimensions of the service quality influenced statistically on the customer satisfaction. The dimension of the support for the service, importance of the service, and customer satisfaction influenced statistically on the loyalty.
Analysis and Suggestion of Public Library Websites for Children Service in Daegu and Gyeongbuk Area

Children seem to be more familiar with getting information from computer and internet than adults, and also it is true that information behavior in the internet has strong influences in the living of the children. When considering this fact, the public library which is the gateway to knowledge should provide a website for children services, allowing to do their life-long learning, read books and access information, without any restrains from time and space. The purpose of this study is to show the importance of public library website, especially for the children, and also to analyze trend of the country and present the solution to the problems. To achieve these goal, the analysis on the websites of the public libraries in Dagu and Gyengbuk area has been conducted. In detail, these were conducted about following criterions: existence of the website, structural system, search service, and contents.

Information on and knowledge of science and technology in the knowledge-based society can be a valuable natural resource and a source of competitive advantage for a country. In addition, in conducting research and developing technologies, information on and knowledge of science and technology is becoming increasingly important and customer`s needs are becoming more diverse. This study thus aims to propose appropriate strategies for effectively coping with needs of those customers who use such knowledge and information by actively reflecting a broad diversity of customer` needs and comments. Using such strategies, we developed a standardized and integrated helpdesk system to enhance the quality of customer support and other services, customer monitoring service, and customer satisfaction.
