A Study on the Requirements for Building of the Regional Library Portal

The purpose of this study is to analyze the political and functional requirements of the regional library portal and to evaluate such requirements. A literature review was carried out to discuss library portal, and introduce the best practices of the regional library portal. After analyzing the political and functional requirements of the regional library portal, AHP was applied to evaluate requirements. In the political requirements, standards, digital collection development, operation and evaluation were ranked according to importance, and copyright & licence management which belongs to digital collection development was underrated. There were differences in the importance among the functional requirements of the regional library portal, integrated search, integrated interface, information service, separated digital collection management and access management were ranked according to importance.
A Study of the Management of e-Book and its Service Scheme in Libraries

The survey and interview about the management of e-book and its service scheme to the librarians who are actually charged with e-book service in libraries were performed and analyzed in this study. The objective of this study was to help the vitalization of e-book use and the realization of complete digital library based on the data.
A Comparative Analysis of Navigation in Law Library Websites

In this study, we analyzed the web site navigation of law school libraries in terms of global, local, context, support navigation. The recommendations for good web site design were as follows. First, global navigation should provide the consistent navigation and be able to access to the important site and function. Second, quick links of local navigation need to provide the movement of scroll bar. The number of menu and type of link in context navigation should provide the least number. Finally, the site map and index should provide with qualified contents and minimal errors.
A Study on Pinakes Catalog of Callimachus

This current article is about the Pinakes catalog by Callimachus that has been acknowledged as the first library catalog in Western civilization. Although many people has recognized the importance of the Pinakes catalog in the field of the history of ancient catalog, few research has been conducted because of the lack of groundwork in the field. This research comprehend most of the previous research in the field so that it can contribute as one of the groundworks in the field of the ancient catalog.
A Research on Citing Behaviors of Researchers in Mechanical Engineering

The purpose of this study is to identify the citing behaviors of researchers in the field of mechanical engineering. It tries to verify if there is a significant difference on citing behavior of researchers between the past and the present with dissertations produced in P University as samples. For the comparison, years 1996 and 2004 are selected for the citation analysis. It analyzed four aspects, such as types of resources cited, languages used in cited documents, years since their publication of cited documents, and the journals indexed in SCI. The results of the analysis are; First, journals are the most cited than any other types of information resources. The citation of WWW resources which are gradually increasing for research is not shown in 1996, but there were some cited in 2004. Second, doctoral candidates usually cite document in English for their study. Statistics show that the use of resources in Japanese is on the decrease. Third, doctoral candidates in the discipline prefer materials published within 4-7 years, 8-11 years rather than 0-3 years since their publication. Last, journals indexed in SCI among the citation in dissertations are about 33 percent for both 1996 and 2004.
A Study on the Service Management of Libraries for Academic Courses in e-learning Environment

The purpose of this study is to examine the meaning and status of the current service of academic libraries in the aspect of its supporting roles for academic courses. The research methods include an examination of model cases from the U.S.A. and Hong Kong and also an electronic questionnaire survey of 32 academic libraries in Korea(67% response rate). With the result of the research analysis, this study aimed to provide optimal administrative plans in e-learning environment.
Effective Corporate Electronic Record Management with KM Governance

Since 1990s, major corporations and public organizations have actively implemented their own knowledge management, by which they develop new businesses and enhance organizational efficiencies. However, their knowledge management processes are sometimes isolated or mismatched with their record management systems and reveal many problems to operate and maintain them effectively. This paper analyzes the current status and problems of corporate knowledge management. Next, it proposes the necessity and the methods to integrate knowledge management and records management in order to transform corporate records as useful knowledge resources. Aligning corporate record management strategies with knowledge management policies enables to improve the management of corporate electronic records. Especially, the implementation of record retention schedule based on the life cycle management of records is emphasized as a KM governance strategy and method to manage corporate records effectively.
Some Legal Arguments on the Portal Service Providers` Information Retrieval

The representative example of the business model on internet environment, the business of the Naver, Empas and Google which provides information retrieval service is the internet portal. The portal sites provide information retrieval service which provides users information what they want to find, that is a huge social contribution. The portal site which provides a search service leads much problems. Consequently, the regulation against information retrieval is asserted powerfully in spite of the public interest. Namely, the regulation regarding the search business owner is tried. Finally, portal business owner puts the social responsibility as OSP. But, there is a doubt that portal business owner who has much problem which occurred on the portal site indirectly has responsibility directly. That is duty on portal site owner the censorship on the contents transferred. So, this thesis researches on the social critical opinion relating with a information retrieval from the legal side against the problem of the Internet.
