Proposal of Connection Details for a Double Split Tee Connection Without a Shear tap

A double split tee connection, which is a beam-column moment connection, shows different behavioral characteristics under the influences of the thickness of a T-stub flange, a high-strength bolt gauge distance, and the number and diameter of a high-strength bolt. A double split tee connection is idealized and designed that a flexural moment normally acting on connections can be resisted by a T-stub and a shear force by a shear tap. However, where a double split tee connection is adopted to a low-and medium-rise steel structure, a small-sized beam member can be adopted. Then, a shear tab may not be bolted to the web of a beam. This study was conducted to suggest the details of a connection to secure that a double split tee connection with a geometric shape has a sufficient capacity to resist a shear force. To verify this, this study was conducted to make a three-dimensional nonlinear finite element analysis on a double split tee connection.
Analytical Study of Shear Capacity for Large-Diameter Concrete-Filled Steel Tubes (CFT)

Concrete filled steel tube(CFT), which has superior ductility and strength, is used for building column, bridge piers of ocean structure. Shear design equations of CFT existing in structural design provisions are excessively conservative. It has an effect on constructability and the economics of CFT. However, to suggest the reasonable shear design equation, experimental studies on the shear capacity of CFT have been rarely conducted. This study is analytical research to suggest improved shear design equations of large-diameter concrete-filled steel tubes. This analytical research was conducted to apply finite element analysis model of CFT based on the prior research. It was verified by comparison with prior test results. The verified model was used for parameter studies to estimate the influence of overhang length, concrete compressive strength and diameter-thickness ratio on shear strength.
Evaluation of Compressive Chord Plastification of Circular Hollow Section X-joint Truss Connection

The researches on circular hollow section(CHS) connections have been conducted continuously because of development of material properties and complex local behavior of the connections. The purpose of this study is that the effects of material strength and chord wall slenderness on chord plastification and strength of CHS X-joint truss connection under compression on branch member were evaluated. To this end, finite element analyses were performed for various connections, using ANSYS Mechanical APDL program. Based on the analysis results, the design strength of the connections according to chord plastification limit state in KBC were examined. Finally, special considerations for CHS X-joint connection design were suggested.
A Study on Shear and Flexural Performance Evaluation of Circularly Corrugated Plate

This research suggest method to calculate more accurate shearing and bending force on corrugated steel plate that it is produced domestically. This research analyze limitation of former formula on domestic design standard and existing research. In addition The strength calculation formula on corrugated steel plate was proposed according to result of the experiment and FEM analysis. In this study, the result that compare experiment with analysis using the proposed shear buckling coefficient and limit width to thickness ratio indicate similar behavior. As the result of the research, It is judged that the structural member design and performance evaluation of the corrugated steel plate was conveniently applied.
Behavior of C-Shaped Beam to Square Hollow Section Column Connection in Modular Frame

Modular building is a prefabricated construction system for building where factory-produced pre-engineered modular units are delivered to site and assembled as substantial elements of a building. There are two basic kinds of modular structures. One is a load-bearing wall structure designed to transfer the load through longitudinal walls. The other is a frame structure composed of columns and beams. For frame structure, square hollow section is often used as a column member and channel as a beam member in modular unit. Lower and upper modules are fasten with bolts via a pre-installed access hole in the SHS column. However, the access holes can weaken the panel zone that would affect the behavior of beam to column connection. The 5 specimens of beam to column connections with parameters of access hole, column thickness and diaphragm were made and this paper describes the test results.
Shear Resistance of BESTOBEAM Shear Connector According to the Length

Shear resistance of BESTOBEAM, which has angle as shear connector and was developed with purpose of easy construction, was tested. With the test results shear resistance design equation was proposed. Unlike angle connector of Eurocode 4, BESTO BEMA shear connector behaves like fixed-end beam. Therefor longer span of the shear connector the lower shear resistance it has. As a result, shear resistance of BESTOBEAM shear connector according to its length tends to decrease as its length gets longer. The authors proposed design equation of angle shear connector sased on the test results. The results from the test and the proposed equation match within 10% error range. Therefore the proposed equation can be used for designing shear connector of BESTOBEAM.
