A Study of Internet Use by U.S. General Contractors

Internet use in the world is rapidly growing. The Internet Is affecting all aspects of life, as we know it. The world of business will probably be changed forever. The construction industry is a major part of the business world It is also seeing changes because of the Internet. This study is to provide the construction industry with an understanding of the current use of the Internet by U.S. general contractors. This study consisted of surveying construction general contractors with regards to their current and future Internet use. The study shows that Internet use by U.S. general contractors is the highest at what was identified as the support level . Use at the corporate level was second, while use at the project level was lower. This study demonstrates that companies of every size are using the Internet somehow in order to remain competitive and to enable improvement of performance.
A Study on the Decision Making Model for Construction Projects using Fuzzy-AHP and Fuzzy-Delph

This research suggests the FD-AHP decision making model for Construction Projects which is composed of two main method to prevent a ranking invert situation ; First, to make the consensus of the experts consistent, we utilize Fuzzy-Delphi method to adjust the fuzzy rating of every expert to achive the consensus condition with the fuzzy linguistic presentation. Second, to handle vague linguistic presentation caused by expert's experiences and subjective judgement, we propose Fuzzy-AHP which is able to enhance precision of construction projects decision mating situation. Moreover, with the correlation analysis, we show that the validity of the FD-AHP model under a decision making task specially on where highly demanded expert's experiences and intuition.
Building construction process improvement using prefabricated materia

The purpose of this study is to present an improvement building construction process by using prefabricated materials. The current slab form work has waste factor by unnecessary process and not complete integration with the finishing process. Therefore the study used value stream analysis methodology for effective improvement of slab form work process. The main contents of the study are as follows; 1) Non-value adding activities were found at existing slab form work process by current state mapping(CSM) 2) Future state mapping(FSM) suggest process Integration to slab form work. 3) Slab form work is analyzed reduction time-cost by prefabricated material. The study recommends that, as a future research, development of tool and technique for the non-value adding activities are eliminated in building construction and application of prefabricated material should be increased.
A Study on the Establishment of the Construction Failure Information Classification

Although Construction Failure Information has been reported in literatures, reports of research, and etc., it Is difficult to utilize the information because the information classification does not exist. Therefore, this study investigated and analyzed literatures of domestic and abroad research Institutions and suggested the Construction Failure Information Classification(CFIC). The CFIC is composed of four classified items; facility general information, failure situation information, failure cause Information, and failure counterplan information. Each item is divided sub-items. Through CFIC, Construction Failure Information can be standardized and utilized for useful data to prevent recurrences of construction failure.
A Study on Material Requirement Planning by Integrating Schedule and Cost

In this study, The matrix method was used with common category concept according to the construction project control system. For the purpose of systematic resource management planning, it should be established on accomplished EVM data for clearing the ordering point according to the attribute procurement analysis. Resource management was presented by connecting the material requirement calculation method and the attribute of procurement method based on the EVM, suggested through analyzing process-data modeling using integrated schedule, cost and material.
Algorithm for the Reinforced Concrete Framework Materials Take-off

The precise quantity of materials is not yet taken off by the CAD system although it has Influenced in design productivity and automatic estimate. And various estimate systems developed so far deal with the quantity take-off of building members separately, which caused to over-estimate the part of each member. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to develop algorithms of more precise estimate than that of current estimate by solving boundary conditions of the connection parts of building members, such as column, girder, beam, wall and slab. The algorithms are proposed to take off the quantity of concrete and form work and they will be used for the estimate of building structure more precisely and automatically than ever.
An application of contractor′s risk to the premium rate of CAR

Nowadays, as construction projects become bigger, the probability of construction accidents is higher than any other day. When construction accidents break out, we may suffer from the loss of life and property. For preventing these damages, there is lawed that some public constructions have to insure Contractor's all risks insurance policy (CAR), However, CAR is used to preventing the insured from the loss of construction accidents, it is debated that the premium rate of CAR is not fair to the insured (contractors) The objects of this thesis are as follows Firstly, the fairness of the premium rate of CAR is reviewed, and then the amount of risk of the insured evaluates and applies to the premium rate. Secondly, the development direction of components for evaluating the amount of risk of the insured is presented in the research. Lastly, how to use the team which assesses the risk of the insured and construction works is proposed for deciding reasonably the premium rate of CAR
