For the purpose of systematic furniture work planning, it should be established to analyse furniture-work process from design phase through contract, and procurement to construction phase. The analysis of process and data for furniture-work provides the roles of conducting subjects and presents management items at each phase. This proposal will provide the systematic furniture-work managements and reduce construction time and cost, and also raise the quality of furniture works.
Comparison of Database Models for Developing a Pavement Performance Analysis System
Choi Jae-ho ;
Korean Journal of Construction Engineering and Management, volume 5, issue 4, 2004, Pages 79~86
One of the most difficult tasks in pavement management information systems is establishing the links between performance measures of a structure and the design and construction inputs. In-situ pavement performance can be considered a response variable to many project input variables, such as design, construction, and traffic loading effects. If we are to fully understand the component of pavement performance and specify the inputs through design and construction specifications to achieve that performance we must develop quantitative relationship between input and response variables through a scientific, fully integrated Pavement Performance Analysis System (PPAS). Hence, the objective of this study is to design a database model required for developing an effective database template that will allow analysis of pavement performance measures based on design and construction information linked by location. In order to select the most appropriate database model, a conceptual database model (Entity Relationship Model) and dimensional model, which is believed to be the most effective modeling technique for data warehouse project, are designed and compared. It is believed that other state highway agencies could adopt the proposed design strategy for implementing a PPAS at the discretion of the state highway agencies.

Korean Journal of Construction Engineering and Management, volume 5, issue 4, 2004, Pages 87~96
The construction duration in apartment construction is an important factor which affects project cost. Henceforth, the time shortening is essential to retrench project cost and project risk when there adopt Five-Day Workweek and introduce apartment sales after completion of construction. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine closely the affecting factors on the duration of framework which forms about
percent of total time in apartment construction by analyzing the schedule mechanism of typical floor and to show the reasonable time shortening methods by case study. The shown schedule mechanism and basic schedule table can utilize as a guideline in case of scheduling of framework in the existing construction method. Also, the shown time shortening methods by three case studies will guide the direction and process of time shortening while there need time shortening in many-sided projects.
The DCiF Model and Credit Evaluation on Korean Construction Companies
Park Tong-Kyu ;
Korean Journal of Construction Engineering and Management, volume 5, issue 4, 2004, Pages 97~106
Credit evaluation by domestic financial institutions on Korean construction companies has had many problems with its tools and criteria ignoring the industrial characteristics. This study develops the DCiF(discounted cash inflow) model as a solution and discusses its usage in construction financing. It also examines the significance of the DCiF indices through regressions and statistical comparison with the other credit evaluation estimates. The results show its clear significance and consistent fitness. Based on the empirical results, implications and methodology are provided for the effective use of the indices in credit evaluation on the construction companies.
Application of the 3D CAD Model Data for 4D Simulation and Quantity Estimation
Lee Jae-Cheol ;
Korean Journal of Construction Engineering and Management, volume 5, issue 4, 2004, Pages 107~114
This paper represents the application of the 3D CAD Model data for 4D simulation and quantity estimation. These support the effective and practical use of 4D CAD model. By using and manipulating the 3D CAD model information, scheduling and quantity estimation could be developed more quickly and effectively. So the 3D CAD model information is made use of not only drawing a blueprint but also playing an important part of data integration platform. The scheduling module sets up the schedule generation logic that consists of period, priority of element arrangement, and time lag of floor placement. It sorts the working items as a priority of working process. And the quantity estimation module queries the material quantity of the structural elements according to the scheduling conditions. These two modules are developed using the 3D CAD model information and assist the function of 4D CAD model.

Cho Tae-Wan ;
Korean Journal of Construction Engineering and Management, volume 5, issue 4, 2004, Pages 130~138
The demolition works of high building in korea are expecting to increase rapidly in the near future, and its general demolition methods can be divided into mechanical demolition method and explosive demolition method. The selection of the right demolition method relies on many variable elements according to environmental and geographical elements. But, generally, the most important element of those is a economical profit. Accordingly, This study estimates each demolition cost dividing into mechanical demolition method and explosive demolition method of high building in city. And the estimating of the demolition cost makes it possible to do comparative analysis for the economical efficiency of each method more objectively than any other selective elements. Also, the analysis for the economical efficiency helps to forecast the activated time of the explosive demolition method in domestic.

Cha Hee Sung ;
Korean Journal of Construction Engineering and Management, volume 5, issue 4, 2004, Pages 147~154
Project value can be increased by implementing the most suitable one or more Value Management Processes (VMP). For the past decades, a variety of innovative management processes have been increasingly introduced into the construction industry. Each VMP is considered to be significantly beneficial for capital facility projects to proactively achieve one or more project value objectives. This paper covers the compilation of the 44 VMPs and provides their leveraging project characteristics that require the implementation of one or more VMPs. The results of data collection establish relative importance between the VMPs and the project characteristic factors in collaboration with 51 experts from both industry and academia. In the lack of industry awareness of both VMPs and their causal factors, the results of this study can facilitate the implementation of the VMPs and ultimately enhance the value of a particular capital project.
