Construction Progress Management System for PPC Implementation

Last Planner System (LPS) developed by Lean Construction Institute consists of four steps: Master Schedule, Phase Schedule, Lookahead Planning and Weekly Work Plan. This paper focuses on the process of measuring Percent of Plan Completed (PPC) at the weekly Work Plan stage. PPC means the percentage of weekly assignments completed. According to the results of the researches that deal with PPC from many other countries, we can assure the benefits or using PPC. However the concept of PPC is unfamiliar in Korea construction industry. This paper analyzes the cases in which PPC is applied in other countries and compares them with the production control system in Korean construction industry. The results of this research will provide the time management system for using PPC in Korea.
Development of a Web-based A/S Management System in Apartment Housing Projects

Recently, After Service(AS) management in apartment housing projects has been appeared as one of the major factors for improving customer satisfaction, and increasing competitiveness and raising image of a company in construction industry. The primary objective of this paper is to propose a web-based AS management system which enables field engineers to effectively collect AS information required from customers and effectively manage the statuses and results of AS performed. It is anticipated that the effective use of the system proposed in this paper would be able to improve communication efficiency among the AS participants, and help field engineers systematically manage and accumulate data that might be utilized as a reference in future construction projects.
A financial feasibility analysis of architectural development projects that use probabilistic simulation analysis method

Construction development work invents profit as those finalize object, and a make or break success of project depends on correct analysis and forecast business feasibility at project early. Business feasibility study would be decision-making under precarious situation because is connoting uncertainty that is future. estimate at present visual point essentially. Under uncertainty, a decision-making method is based on probability theory of statistics, but business feasibility study had applied with not feasibility study by probabilistic decision method but it by determinism derision method so far. Therefore in this study doing decision-making by a probability theory method for successful project at early business feasibility study, it present a probabilistic study method that use simulation that can supply a little more correct and reliable data to decision-maker As result, a probabilistic study method is more suitable than deterministic study method as technique for a financial feasibility study of construction development work. Making good use of this probabilistic study method at important business or careful decision-making, because efficient Judgment that is based accuracy and authoritativeness may become available.
The Priority Analysis of the Risk and Countermeasures for Quality Control in the Steel Structure

Recently construction environment is being professionalized. oversized and diversified. Due to fluctuation of construction environment, the demand for the project of steel structure is ieased gradually and steel construction is needed the efficient quality management. The construction of steel structure which required a variety of sub-contractors, the progress of works and technologies are comprehensive of various risks and uncertain factors. But currently the construction of steel structure is conducted the risk management by perception and experience of constructors. Therefore, the analyzing factors of the risk and establishing the device are able to manage the quality management efficiently. In this study, we have conducted the interview of experts, polls and through the Analysis Hierarchy Process (AHP) for the scientific and systematic risk management. This paper will propose a plan for systematization of the construction of the steel structure.
A Study on the Estimating of the Dump Truck's Travel Speed Based on Analysis of Factors Affecting Earthmoving Operation

In many construction projects, such as dams, highways, airports, buildings, industrial plants, and sewerage and drainage systems earthmoving operation is defined the movements of a certain quantity of earth to alter the surface configuration or conditions so that projects requirement can be met. Accurate calculation of travel time is essential for determining productivity of earthmoving operations, and for ultimately selecting the most cost-effective fleet configuration for executing the work. Also transportation work that utilizes dump truck consists average So in the whole expenses earthmoving operation, and is an important cost factor for cost management. Therefore this study proposes a methodology for optimum transfer speen based on the analysis of factors affecting earthmoving operation in different road types by collecting the sources of dump truck running speeds and considering the main factors affecting the earthmoving operation.
Decision Making Methodology on Ventilation System for Road Tunnels Based on Multi-Attribute Utility Theory

The size and length of road tunnels have been gradually expanded as industry developed. Consequently, the risk has been increased. The decision making process for ventilation system for road tunnels involves a large amount of information on economic feasibility, construction methods, and safety etc. In situation where systematically structured decision making process is unavailable, almost decisions about ventilation systems are made based on engineers' private knowledge and experiences. Procedure and criteria to choose the best optimized ventilation system among many alternatives are proposed, breaking away from the economic dependency-oriented decision making. This paper presents a Multi-Attribute Utility Theory and AHP based function with which planners can calculate overall utility of each alternative. It is anticipated that the effective use of the proposed methodology for decision making on ventilation systems ould be able to reduce the likelihood of the occurrence of potential safety risks as well as increase the overall ventilation performance.
A Model for Improving Performance Structure of Build-Transfer-Lease in Small Public Educational Facilities

It is Increasing that requirements of social infrastructure which includes educational, welfare, cultural facilities for public. Government introduced BTI(Build-Transfer-Lease) as a PFI(Private Financial Initiative) system. This research is about BTL projects in small public educational facilities. Some problems when BTL system is applied to small public educational facilities are identified, and the reason of those problems are examined. This research proposes alternatives in a institutional way and it proposes improvements in contractual structure of consortium when BTL system is applied. Based on reasonable system, it promotes creativeness and effectiveness of a project, and it makes local minor construction companies participate in BTL project without difficulties as mentioned.
An Administration Model for Causation of the Schedule Delays in Construction Projects

If project time extension were required in the construction projects, either liquidated damages or extension costs should be applied according to causation of the schedule delays. However, in actual cases it is not applied so far according to the contract conditions. The reason why this situation happened Is that function of the present planning and scheduling is not working feasibly. The CPM schedule could not provide a proper solution for apportioning responsibility for the schedule delays. This situation could be considered as breach of contract and will cause potential disputes for schedule delay. Therefore, in this research process based contract administration model for construction delay claim is proposed to prevent schedule delay and solve the claims. The model is based on pro-active management for causation of delay to provide apportionment of responsibility and written evidences.
A Study on Workload Evaluation of Hand-intensive tasks of carpenters and structural steel workers

It is crucial that the WRMSD is realized as a critical job-related diseases for the construction workers. It is caused by the characteristics of repetitive work, uncomfortable work methods and continuous unsuitable physical posture. The objective of this research is to evaluate the workload for the carpenters and structural steel workers. Investigation on the posture and behavior for the workers as well as personal sensitivity to the workload is conducted. The laboratory tests with graduate students are conducted to estimate inconvenience in terms of personal sensitivity to the workload. The results of this research will be used to perform the further researches on ergonomic and technological approaches to improvements of the hand-intensive tasks in the construction industry.
Application of a REID-Based Monitoring System for the Concrete Pour Process

A ubiquitous environment in construction should be developed integrating hardware and software systems. The objective of this paper is to study the feasibility of applying the RFID technology to the concrete pour process, and improve the effectiveness of data exchange A pilot system of u-CPS (Ubiquitous Concrete Pour System) has been developed to test the feasibility. The pilot can automatically generate the data for concrete pour work such as departure time, arrival time, concrete pour time. Construction managers can keep track of the progress of concrete pour work using the information. A case study was done for a building construction using the pilot system, the result of which demonstrated that the RFID-base system can help improve the effectiveness of data communication during the concrete pour process.

VE/LCC Analysis Models of Breakwaters by Fuzzy Reliability Approach

In this study, the concepts of integrated VE analysis assessment is introduced in order to achieve "Design for Deterioration performance" in design VE phase. For this purpose, a framework for fuzzy reliability based LCC and value analysis model using fuzzy logic based approach for breakwaters Projects is suggested. It is anticipated that the methodology Proposed in this paper can also be utilized in the design and maintenance phase of other facilities where decision making is made for the fuzzy reliability based life cycle cost and value analysis.
The Economic Efficiency Assessment of Infrastructure considering Environmental Cost - A Case Study of Emergency Spillway for Korean Multipurpose Dam -

This study aims to provide useful information when making a decision for the environmental and economic efficiency assessment of infrastructure, based on Life Cycle Assessment(LCA). It estimates environmental cost on environmental pollutants that are possible to happen by locations and by types of emergency spillway for korean multipurpose dam, which is selected as a study case. For this purpose, this study examines the theories of LCA and Contingent Valuation Method(CVM) and suggests an analysis model of environmental cost. To apply the suggested analysis model of environmental cost for infrastructure to the case study of emergency spillway at the multipurpose dam, this study calculates environmental load on environmental pollutants that generate during life cycle, converts it to a cost to predict environmental cost, evaluates environmental economy of emergency spillway by the estimated result, and draws the optimum alternative that is environmental-friendly and economic.
