Development of the Seakeeping Performance Evaluation System Built-On-Ship (1)-Establishment of the Relative Dangerousness D/B for Factors on Seakeeping Performance-

The final goal of this research is to establish the relative dangerousness D/B for factors on seakeeping performance. This D/B is, essential to develope the seakeeping performance evaluation system built-on-ship. The system is composed of the apparatus for measuring a vertical acceleration to be generated by the ship`s motions, computer for calculating the synthetic seakeeping performance index and monitor for displaying the evaluating diagram of navigational safety of ship. In this paper, a methodology on the establishment of the relative dangerousness D/B for factors on seakeeping performance is presented by a numerical simulations, playing an important role on the algorithm of the program for calculating the synthetic seakeeping performance index. Finally, It is investigated whether the relative dangerousness D/B can be realized an accurate values according to the loading conditions, weather conditions, wave directions and present ship`s speed of a model ship.
Automatic Control for Ship Collision Avoidance Support-II

The purpose of this study is to examine the algorithm of ship collision avoidance system and to improve its performance. The study on the algorithm of ship collision avoidance system have been carried out by many researchers. We can divide the study according to the adopted theory into two category such as `collision risk calculation method` and `risk area method`. It is not so difficult to find heir merit and demerit in the respective method. This study suggested newly modified model, which can overcome a limit in the two method. The suggested model is based on collision risk calculation method and suggests how to solve the threshold value problem, that is, one of the unsolved issues in collision risk calculation method. To solve that problem this study proposed new system under which the users can select appropriate threshold value according to environments such as traffic situations and weathers conditions. Simulation results of new model is schematized using `risk area method`to examine the relationships between the two method. In addition, in case of `collision risk method`, when TCPA and DCPA are used to determine collision risk, a problem happens, that is, two ships become too close in their stem area, therefore, partial function of `risk area method`is adopted to solve the problem in suggested model.
Development of Marine Casualty Forecasting System (III): Implementation of Three-Dimensional Visualization System

The paper describes implementation of three-dimensional visualization system that is to provide comprehensive meaning of the statistical prediction results on the marine casualties. Graphical User Interface (GUI) and Web based Virtual Reality (VR) technology are mainly introduced in the system development. To provide daily forecasting, time based casualty prediction model and risk level index are developed in this work. As operating test results of the system, complicated statistical meaning can be shown in the three-dimensional virtual space using simple color. In addition, daily risk levels can be shown on the bar-graph.
A Study on EUROFIX Reed Solomon Code Design Using Finite Galois Field Fourier Transformation

This paper deals with Reed-Solomon Coding for EUROFIX system EUROFIX is an integrated navigation and communication system, which combines Differential GNSS and Loran-C EUROFIX transmits DGNSS(Differential Global Navigation Satellite Systems) (data by pulse position modulation of Loran-C pulses. Loran-C system is regarded as a satellite backup system in recent. And now, it is important to detect and correct much errors in communication systems. Error corrections or correction algorithm is actively studied nowadays because of this. In this paper, we study and design encoder and decoder of Reed Solomon Code using Finite Galois Field Fourier Transformation for error corrections in EUROFIX data transmission. Through extensive simulation, the designed Reed Solomon code is shown to be effective for error correction in EUROFIX data transmission.
A study on the Optimum Design of an Inverted-F Antenna for the Bluetooth system

In this paper, the characteristics of an inverted-F antenna for the 2.4GHz(ISM) Bluetooth system have been analysed in terms of the variation of design parameters. The antenna can be integrated on printed circuit board, and the characteristics in terms of the variation of the gap between feed line and shorting stub, gap between antenna`s leg and ground plane, antenna leg`s width, substrate`s height and dielectric constant are analysed By using these characterization plot of design parameter, the tuning techniques are proposed to design optimum antenna. The designed antenna has 6.3%(150MHz) frequency bandwidth for VSWR under 1.5, and 3dBi gain.
A Study on Design of Reflector Type Frequency Doubler in K-Band

In this paper, a reflector type frequency doubler for local oscillator at 24GHz is designed and fabricated with ne71300-N MESFET. Optimum source and load impedances are decided through a multiharmonic load pull simulation technique. A conversion gain can be improved using the reflector and fundamental and third harmonics are well suppressed with open stub of
/4 length Measured results show output power at 0dBm of input power is -3.776dBm, conversion gain 0.736dB, harmonic suppression 41.064dBc, respectively.
On-line Surface Defect Detection using Spatial Filtering Method

Defects inspection of commodities are very important with those design and manufacturing process and essential to strengthen the competitiveness of those. If on-line automatic defects detection is performed without damaging to products, the production cost shall be curtailed through the reducing man-power, economical management of Q.C(Quality Control). In this paper, it is suggested three spatial filtering methods which can extract the necessary information in case of defects being on the surface of object like iron plate. In addition, the dependence of filtering characteristics on parameters such as the pitch and width of slits is analyzed and the surface defect detection system is constructed. Several experiments were carried out for determining the adequate spatial filtering method through comparing and analyzing effects of parameters like defect`s size and shape, intensity of light, noise of coherent source and slit number.

Due to the changes in market place, new business types(e.g. e-business} have been rapidly emerged and increased. However, those new business types have not much been emerged in port and logistics related industries, and adoption rate of e-business in this area is very low, compared to other industries. Thus, to promote e-business in this area, many policies have been studied. However, most of previous studies have not been based on industrial structure, and results of these studies have mostly been case by case. Further, there have been no research based on the related theories. As a result, despite many of research and project for shipping and port related e-business, prominent achievements in this area have never to be presented. For these reasons, it am be stated that, first of all, basic studies related to new business types in shipping and port are needed, and then, various policies based on results of those basic studies should be discussed. The aim of this study is to classify business types existed (or expected) in a port related industry, ship bunkering. This taxonomy was based on theories related to business layer(BL) and value chain(VC), and these BL and VC combination enabled to acquire all possible business types.
A Study to activate and evaluate competitive advantage on Free Trade Zone of Busan Port

As the environment for international logistics varies according to the globalization in world economy, world-class seaports are struggling for the position as strongholds in their own block. As a new government begins its own era in Korea, they are positively implementing their strategies at the level of government for making the Korean Peninsula the logistics centre in North-eastern Asia, marking the most of its geographic advantage. As one of those strategies, it plans to foster a specific area as an international logistics base camp in Northeast Asia by activating its logistics industry through inducing multinational logistics enterprises. In reality, however, in order for Busan seaport, the late-comer, to induce investment from the world-class multinational companies, a considerably large volume of investment should be given from both central and local governments. Accordingly, the objective of this study is to assess its competitiveness and to suggest an activation plan for BSDFA(Busan Seaport Duty-Free Area), based upon the results of on-the-spot interviews in China and Japan. The survey for the respondent`s preference by way of Conjoint Analysis indicated that Investment procedures and limitations get the highest 36.2％ preference, so the most critical strategy to be considered for attracting enterprises into DFA(Duty-Free Area) is to solve the problems related to the investment procedures and limitations. The simulation analysis results for market share showed that UAE has the highest preference and BSDFA the lowest preference among the five countries. However, when the levels of investment procedures and limitations and production costare upgraded, the competitiveness of BSDFA was elevated next to that of UAE among the 5 countries. Thus, in order for BSDFA to obtain competitiveness, it is implied that production cost level as well as investment procedures and limitations level, should be lowered so that it could meet companies` demand.
Evaluation of Effect on CFS Location

Container Freight Station(CFS), which would be located inside terminal or outside, plays the role of consolidating less than container load(LCL) cargo gathered from multi shippers and deconsolidating full container load cargo into individual consignment. When CFS is allocated inside terminal it muses several problem such as traffic gam around terminal, high social and logistics cost and deterioration of terminal condition. This study, therefore, tries to evaluate the location of CFS, inside and outside of terminal, with respect to the social and logistics costs.
A Study on Port Development in Korea through Private Investment-Analyzing port Charge in M Port-

The port developments in Korea have been achieved by government because port needs large scale of funds for development and is recognized as SOC to be supplied by government. But this kind of policy has met budgetary problem to cope with rapidly increasing demands of port facilities. Thus in recent years, Korean government has tried to induce commercial capital to the construction of port facilities and allow port company to operate the facilities commercially for given period enough to compensate the investment. At present, several private ports are under construction and some will be opened in the near future. But on this stage, it is expected some problems for the reasonable port operation. This paper tried to scan and to analyze the current situation and also to find proper solutions.
A Study on Berth Allocation for Navy Surface Vessels Considering Precedence Relationships among Services

Navy surface vessels require pier services such as emergency repair, oil supply, arm loading / unloading, craning, standby readiness, normal repair, gun arrangement, ammunition loading, and food loading during the period in port. The purpose of this study is to establish efficient berth allocation plan for navy surface vessels in home port under the limited resources of piers and equipments. This study suggests Mixed Integer Programming model for berth allocation problem, considering precedence relationships among services. For an effective analysis, the model is implemented by ILOG OPL(Optimization Programming Language) Studio 3.1 and ILOG CPLEX 7.0. The results of the model show reduction of berth shifts and increasement of service benefits.
A study of feature catalogue standard of marine GIS

Although features, core element of marine GIS in many application, are same things users have difficulty in using them on account of varying according to method of classification. Accordingly feature cataloguing in accordance with the standard is the trend of the modem world. In this article we have became familiar with ISO 19110 - Methodology for Feature Cataloguing, we was able to discuss element and definition of features for the purpose of Marine GIS`s activation. Through the result of study, we presented the methodology of Marine GIS feature cataloguing.
Application and Analysis of the Steady State Spectral Wave Model Take into Account the Effect of Current

Introduction of wave model, take into account the effect of tide, wind and wave induced currents at the coastal waters of complex bathymetry, is a very important factor for most coastal engineering design and disaster protection problems. As the steady state spectral wave model could simulate depth induced wave shoaling and refraction, current induced refraction effect, steepness induced wave breaking, diffraction, wind wave growth, wave-wave interaction, and wave-current interaction that redistribute energy, this would support and compensate the gap in the real field of design where other wave models could not deal and cause wrong estimation. In this study, for better understanding and analysis of wave transformation process, we applied the spectral wave model to the large coastal waters near Gaduck Island where the Busan new port construction project is going on. We also compared the simulation results with the calculatea from the existing model. From such a trial of this study, we hope that broader and safer use of the spectral model in the area of port design and disaster prevention system come through in near future.
A Study on Organic Characteristics of Waterfront Design Elements

This study is aiming at examining the possibilities to develop eco-friendly waterfront, and discusses characteristics of the organic worldview which has been emerged as new development or eco-friendly paradigm in recent science against the mechanical worldview of modem times. The orientation of waterfront development is characterized as unity, diversity, dynamics and mutuality. In addition, I examined the factors for waterfront design according to the locational, decorativeand visual properties of urban
architecture to find out concrete factors of its design. This study suggests the factors for waterfront design making use of organic properties, by examining the orientation for organic development of eco-friendly waterside environment and showing correlation between the factors of specific design, and their examples.
