Recently, many ships such as VLCCs, dangerous cargo ships, high speed ferry boats are visiting Yeosu, Gwangyang harbor. The traffic volume of the year 2003 has increased as many as 2.5 times of 1988. However there is no suitable ships` routeing system which takes account of today`s traffic situations in this area This study aims at the settling of hazardous factors to mitigate the danger to vessels in Yeosu
Gwangyang bay and to secure the safety of maritime environment.
A Study on the Traffic Stream and Navigational Characteristics at the Adjacent Sea Area of Busan Central Wharf

At the adjacent sea area of Busan Central Wharf, a variety of vessels, such as middle-large passenger ships, small hugh speed crafts, container ships, cargo ships and working boats as well as small miscellaneous vessels are freely sailing comparatively without special rules and marine traffic control. In this research, we analyzed traffic stream and navigational characteristics cf main traffic route based on statistics and distribution of tracks by ship`s type and tonnage cf the passing vessels after conducting marine traffic survey twice using exclusive software. We examined the traffic safety of the passing vessels by classifying the sea area by each function based on the analysis about this traffic situation, and analyzing the effect by designating `Inner passage`. We also studied the plan for the effective rearrangement cf Central Wharf considering basically the traffic safety of arrival and departure in a point of view of navigators.

Recently, the demand for LNG(Liquefied Natural Gas) increases in our country and all over the world as well as building order for LNGC Because LNG is very dangerous cargo, the special know-how and attention for cargo handling to prevent an accident is required and big demand for deck officers in future is expected Thus, more specific and systematic education and training program by means of investigating the status of national LNGC officer`s education and training. To accomplish this, IMO regulation and LNGC education program for Korea Institute of Maritime and Fisheries Technology, national shipping companies and Japanese T company were analyzed.
A Study on Training Education Effect of Training Terms for Trainees in Training Ship- I

The training ships of maritime university in Korea are operated in the suitable schedule. However, there is no paper to grasp the education effect of the coastal navigation and ocean-going navigation terms. As the first step of these training education effects, this paper investigates the effect of training terms and provides the basic materials of the efficient training education. This paper used the 6 times test scores based on test book for 3rd officer as the assess method The results are as follows. (1)The higher credits scored in university times, the higher test scores gained in training ship. (2)After ocean-going navigation, the test score was the best.(3) The longer the training period is, the more the difference of individual capacity is.
A study on the characteristics of diving accident based on the reports of diving casualties

This study aims to provide divers with improved sqfe diving practices by analyzing reports on scuba diving casualties that recently (from 1997-2003) occurred in Korea, Japan and USA The result of this study may contribute to reduce the diving accident. The data were collected through the diving accident reports of various sources, which include reports of the KUA (Korea Underwater Association) technical committee, the accident statistical data of Korea Coast Guard, articles of domestic and foreign scuba diving magazines, accident reports of various newspapers, annual reports on decompression illness and diving fatalities by DAN (Diver Alert Network), diving accident data reported to local and national seminars, and medical treatment data of diving accident. The analysis focused on the diving casualties and the result showed that the casualty rate in Korea was 2.8 and 2.2 times higher than those in Japan and USA, respectively.
A Study on Patterning and Grading by the Impact of Traffic Culture Index

This study suggests strategies to prevent traffic accidents by utilizing impact factors per each cluster and the typical patterns of 81 cities based on the statistical analysis of the data concerning the TCI which was developed from the partnership of the Traffic Safety Authority and the Green Traffic Movement Corporation in 2002 and 2003. The Principal Component Analysis and Cluster Analysis on impact factors and TCI result in 4 components and 4 clusters. Also as the results of Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis examining the relationship between impact factors and TCI, R2 values of these models show high to all clusters. According to the results, we suggest strategies to prevent traffic accidents per cluster concretely and it is necessary to analyze how effective the invested facilities are in reducing traffic accidents in the future.

Total Cost Analysis by Calling Port Reduction of Mega Containership - The Case of Domestic Shipping Company -

Recently, 8,000TEU class containerships has started operating the shipping service and the mega-containership of over 10,000TEU is on planning. A unit cost in relation to shipping service is decreased by the bigger ship based on the economy of scale. Most of the previous studies have been performed and focused on the total operation cost from mega port to mega port. However, the purpose of this paper is to estimate economic efficiency of selected hub ports from point of view of total cost such as service cost(or operation cost), port charge and feeder cost, etc. First, the service-network of mega containerships is based on data of a domestic shipping company operated main line and economic analysis of individual scenarios on the cost and traffic when 10,000TEU mega containerships offer the services. The three scenarios presented in this paper set up the hub ports which are the port of Busan, Shanghai and Yokohama The results show that port of Busan is economically the most efficient one among others.
A Cognitive Modeling Approach for Successful Adoption of e-business in the Port-Logistics Industry

In order to promote e-business in port-logistics area, many studies have been conducted since then However, despite those studies related to e-business in this area, prominent achievements have not been presented, and moreover, research in academic side has been very rare, comparing to that cf practical side. In this paper, we focus on factors affecting adoption of e-business in the field of port-logistics industry. The purpose of this study is to find the factors which affect adoption of e-business in port logistics industry, and establish its structure, based on a cognitive modeling. To achieve the aim of this research, we framed a cognitive map with empirical data collected from port-logistics firms. And from the results of analysis, some critical points for successful adoption cf e-business in port-logistics industry were suggested.
An Exploratory Study on Risk Factor in Supply Chain

This study gathered the factors of supply chain risk through literature review, and measured the importance of risk factors recognized by domestic companies. The purpose and necessity of this study are as follows. First, supply risk factors were classified and explored through empirical studies about supply chain risk. Most of the previous studies concentrated on the meaning of supply chain risk, but only in terms of concept approach Second, to evaluate the importance of supply-chain risk recognized by the companies, AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process} method was proposed in this paper. Finally, this study suggests implications for companies` efficient supply activity by measuring the importance of supply-chain through AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process).

The purpose of this study is to analyze the dynamic market mechanism adopting relationship marketing techniques between the shipping companies and shippers. As shipping companies mainly rely on sales operation, the relational structure of shipping companies and shippers is considered to be one of the determinants in business performance and customer satisfaction In this respect, the characteristic relationship between sales person and shipping company takes an important roles in relationship marketing in shipping business industry. An empirical study was carried out to find out the determinants cf relationship quality and antecedent factors of characteristics in shipping companies and sales person.
Design and Implementation of PDA based RFID Recognition System for the Logistics Application

RFID(Radio Frequency IDentification) is appearing by point technology by Ubiquitous environment of new paradigm and Logistics` application But, RFID chip of this is high price and short bandwidth, low power and interference etc. can become technological problem This is getting into obstacle in common use. Reader and tag, Embedded software etc.. that are accomplishing standardization are imported paying most expensive royalty. This paper deals with a RFID cognition system that use PDA under ubiquitous environment to apply to Logistics system A RFID cognition system processes input/output of fundamental information attaching a tag onto products. And a RFID cognition system supports quick, correct and sqfe synthetic Logistics managerial system through construction of database. This can minimize logistics costs and improve the quality of customer service. A RFID cognition system has advantage that can widen range of application to area that cognition system of existent fixing style can not do. Also, it can expect economical effect through inexpensive system construction.
Customer Preference Analysis On Masan Container Terminal Using SP Method

Recently, the development construction of New Masan Container Terminal (1-1 Phase) with private investment would be set for opening in the 2011 year in Masan Port, Korea However, as new container terminals of the Pusan New Port and `the New Ulsan Container Terminal neighboring Masan Port will be also planned to open around the time, the strategy establishment for Masan Port is required for a keen competition among these ports. To provide it with strategic points, we applied SP model used for customers` behavior method to analyze customer`s preference changes with the shifts of the ports` conditions for customers.
Analysis of Harbor Responses due to the Dredging Work at Waterway and Mooring Basin in Busan New Port

Recently the first stage qf construction for Busan new port emerged over the sea surface at the north container terminal site. With this, there are lot of discussions and debates on increasing the water depth at the approaching channel and mooring basin from the existing 15m to 18m by dredging work in order to be able to serve 12,000TEU containership, and at the same time, correction to the reclamation plan of hinterland at the part of Undong Bay qf the new port site. Since the attack of typhoon `Maemi` in 2003, it is expected that the design wave parameters for coastal and harbor structures in this area would be somewhat changed and so the extreme wave condition at each terminal and tranquility of berthing area does, and therefore, it is necessary to analyze the tranquility at each berth Hence in this study, we constructed a wave model for these conditions and performed simulation together with the circulation model simulation, compared with the field data collected The result showed the increase of the harbor response throughout the basin but not severe condition However, a certain location needs to be prepared for the rough sea condition when a severe typhoon hit the site.
Structural Optimization for LMTT-Mover Using Sequential Kriging Approximation Model

A LMTT (Linear Motor-based Transfer Technology) is a horizontal transfer system for the yard automation This system is based on PMLSM (Permanent Magnetic Linear Synchronous Motor) that consists of stator modules on the rail and shuttle car. In this research, the kriging interpolation method using sequential sampling is utilized to find the optimum design of a mover in LMTT. The design variables are considered as the transverse, longitudinal and wheel beam`s thicknesses. The objective function is set up as weight, while the constant functions are set up as the stresses generated by four loading conditions. The optimum results obtained by the suggested method are compared with those determined by the GENESIS.
