Development of Control Algorithm for Ship Berthing and Unberthing Systems Using a Joystick

This study develops a control algorithm on berthing/unberthing system using a joystick for ships with thrusters and a rudder. A nonlinear mathematical model for low speed maneuvering of typical container ships is used to develop a MIMO(multi-input multi-output) nonlinear control algorithm for velocity feedback joystick control. Also a virtual HILS(hardware in the loop simulation) software program for berthing/unberthing is developed to test the performance of the nonlinear and a PID control algorithm. The program is developed using LabWindow/CVI, and a user can see current position and desired trajectory of ship in a monitor, then he can control forward and yaw velocities of a ship using a joystick. The simulation results show that the nonlinear mfd the PID controller have superior performance over a simple open loop joystick control algorithm.
A Study on the development of Ship Collision Avoidance Support Program considered Speed

In this paper, we have studied the ship collision avoidance support on the basis of `Ship Collision Avoidance Model considered a Speed` for the purpose of the decrease of the human error, caused ship collisions, at sea and the effective support of avoiding ship collisions. The program has been reflected the speed of a target ship, had not been considered in a preceding study. Besides, the program will effectively support a maneuver for a collision avoidance, through the display of a feasible area and the method of a collision avoidance using the own ship`s turning characteristic about the action of target ship`s course and velocity.

Shipwaves can cause beach erosion, seawall destruction and difficulty of cargo working due to rolling of ship. In addition, high speed operation of motor boat and passenger ship jeopardize sea bathers and anglers` safety. This study aims to investigate the characteristics of shipwaves which occurred and propagated in shallow water experimentally and theoretically. Shipwaves which occurred and propagated in shallow water depth represent large wave height increase.
A Study on the Traffic Improvement at an Approach Area of Busan Harbor

In approaching sea area of Busan harbour, there are many traffic vessels and external forces such as strong seasonal wind and lateral flow are existed. Since the area caused the risk of navigation and ship operators feel hard to enter/depart on Busan port, we carried our the evaluation of traffic risk and propriety at Busan no.1 fairway. In order to assess the safety in the fairway, we analyzed ship`s traffic stream based on the marine traffic survey and evaluated the traffic safety of present Traffic Separation Schemes(TSS) and suggest TSS in the research using full mission ship-handling simulators. As a result, the suggested TSS has an effect on improving the traffic safety. In addition, this paper was to suggest the dredging area of depth of water, the passage of towing vessels and control of warships for preventing of maritime accidents in the Busan no.1 fairway.
The Estimation of the Future Container Ship Traffic for Three Major Ports in Korea

Effective plan and operation managements can be established in advance if the traffic volume of container ship will be forecasted in the trend for container port`s cargo volume to increase. At the viewpoint for marine traffic the number of incoming and outgoing container ship can be presumed in the long run and organised rational plan to deal the demand of marine traffic on the basis. Therefore, the paper estimated the future traffic volume of incoming and outgoing container ship for Busan, Gwangyang, and Incheon port on a forecasting data basis of container volume suggested in the national ports base plan. The trends of volume per ship on container were estimated with ARIMA models and seasonal index was computed. Thus the traffic volume of container ship in the future was estimated computing with volume per ship in 2011,2015, and 2020 respectively.
Estimating the storage space requirement of a container terminal considering the variance of a containership`s load size

The storage space requirement is a very important decision variable which determines the storage capacity of a container terminal. Generally, the storage space requirement is dependent upon such factors as ship headway, allowable dwell time of containers, loading/winding time per ship, and so on. Until now, the storage space requirement is estimated under the assumption that the factors are deterministic in several studies. However, this study proposes how to estimate a storage space requirement satisfying the required service level under the assumption that a containership`s load size is probabilistic. Numerical experiments, which use a simulation show that the proposed method can estimate more adequately the storage space requirement than other methods under a probabilistic environment.
A Study on the Strategic Development Plan of the Freight Forwarding Industry in Korea

The purpose of this study is to suggest the strategic development plan of the freight forwarding industry in Korea. In order to do this, 20 derailed factors were identified both from previous studies and from brainstorming professionals of the freight forwarding industry and these made info a 3 level hierarchy structure. SWOT/AHP technique identifies the relative weight of each level and composite relative weight of detailed factors. As a result, the strategic development plan of the freight forwarding industry priority in Korea has been proposed.
A Classification of Port Similarity in Container Carriers` Perspectives

The number of calling ports has been decreased and the degree of inter- and intra-port competition has been increased, which is caused by the market trends that shipping liners have and operate their own terminals, strategic M & A frequency occurs among shipping liners, and container vessel size is increasing. The trends also cause shipping liners to change the evaluation factors for decision to call a particular port such as port preference, potential for growth, port competitiveness, etc. Since the decision of liners greatly influences the policies for port and terminal development, it is worth having interest in the evaluation factors. Therefore, this work intended to evaluate 8 major ports (Port of Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Busan, Rotterdam, Kaoshing, and Tokyo) with regard to liners` evaluation factors (calling port preference, potential for growth and port competitiveness) and to classify ports by similarity of evaluation factors with the methodologies of ANOVA analysis and Duncan test. The result shows implication for liners` viewpoint to evaluate major ports in the world.
An Empirical Study on Impact of Service Orientation upon Business Performance in International Logistics Firm : Primarily on International Freight Forwarders

This study aims to verify the structural relationship among service orientation, employees` satisfaction and business performance primarily on the International Freight Forwarders. For carrying out the study, literature survey relating to service orientation, satisfaction and performance along with empirical analysis was carried out. Results of analyses were found to be as follows: first, International Freight Forwarder`s service orientation has had influence on employees` satisfaction second, employees` satisfaction in the freight forwarding companies has had influence on financial performance.
Competitiveness Analysis of TSR(Trans Siberian Railway)

Recently, the government of Russia has been cooperating with developed countries such as Germany, which have an advanced railroad system. They have been establishing a strategy to activate the Siberia Trans Railway. Thus, it is possible that a part of cargo will be transported by TSR (Trans Siberia Railway) instead of shipping. If there is a railroad system, connecting the North and the South Korea via the Busan port, a new freight route linking to Europe will be reached. This paper aim to investigate the intention of shipping companies, shipper, forwarders, who are prospective customers and/or competitors of TSR. An analysis of the competitiveness between TSR system and the waterway transportation will be also mentioned.
A Study on the New DEA Ranking Measurement for the Efficient Seaports based on Changing the Reference Set

The purpose of this paper is to show a way for measuring the rankings of efficient seaports in Korea by using DEA(data envelopment analysis) and model suggested by Jahanshahloo et al(2006). Two inputs(birthing capacity, and cargo handling capacity) and three outputs(export cargo handling amount, import cargo handling amount, and number of ship calls), and one cross sectional data(2004) for 26 Korean seaports are considered for measuring the efficiencies. An empirical main result indicates that ranking order of efficient seaports are Okpo, Samcheok Ulsan, Daesan, Busan, Gohyun Ports. Samcheok Port is classified as the most strong efficient port among 16 general ports except 10 container ports. The Korean seaport authority can adopt the new measurement way introduced in this paper for measuring the exact ranking order of efficient seaports when it decides the development and investment to each efficient seaport.
Evaluation of Weighted Correlator for Multipath Mitigation in GPS Receiver

The effect of multipath is especially serious in urban area and sea surface where buildings and water reflect GPS signal. Multipath brings about the performance degradation on many GPS application because the presence of multipath causes the diminution of pseudorange measurement accuracy in turn position accuracy. In this paper, a multipath mitigation named weighted correlation method is implemented on software GPS receiver, in which the asymmetric correlation function is compensated by modifying the late correlation value. Asymmetry compensation is obtained as weighted sum of two correlators which have different early-late chip spaces. This structure is adopted to lessen the computation load lower keeping up performance similar to that. The performance of implemented multipath mitigation technique is evaluated using GPS signal and multipath signal generated by GPS signal generator and software GPS receiver. The test results show that the weighted correlation method gives hefter performance than the standard correlator and the narrow correlator.
Design and Fabrication of Miniaturized Dual-bandpass filter Using Rectangular ring resonator and Interdigital capacitive feeding-structure

In this paper, we have designed and fabricated a new type of bandpass-filter that used rectangular ring and interdigital capacitive feeding-structure. The filter is applied the modified rectangular ring and interdigital capacitive feeding-structure in patch, which reduce rho size of filter and IEEE 802. 11 correspond to wireless LAN domain(2.45GHz and 5.2GHz) for operating. As a result, the design and fabrication process of the filter become simple and the size of it is reduced more than 60% compared with RF filter are available conventional PEMBF(Parallel Edge-coupled Microstrip Bandpass Filter) of accounted circuit by minimum stage, measurement result of fabricated filter, center frequence is down 2.408GHz and 5.075GHz. input return loss is -39.169dB at 2.408GHz, -40.922dB at 5.075GHz. insertion loss is -0.437dB at 2.408GHz, -1.669dB at 5.075GHz.
Floating Sector Caisson for Maintenance of the Large Underwater Structures

Recently, the defect maintenance period of the new construction structure was extended from 5 years to 10 years. And according to change of realization on the quality of construction and maintenance, a development of semi-permanent method of construction is required for maintenance of blind parts of underwater structure, such as bridge, dam, harbor, etc. In this study, we proposed a floating type sector dry caisson, which is effective to the maintenance of submerged large structures. These large structures were being maintained incompletely, partly due to unskilled divers and difficult working condition. Considering the easiness of access to the maintenance area and the cost for set up the working structure, especially for the case of structure slabs close to the sea surface and harrow pile span structures, we developed and introduced a sector dry caisson instead of the full caisson structure. By doing this, it is easy to move out the caisson rapidly in emergence case. Therefore, we expect that the floating sector caisson will contribute to reduce working time and improve the quality of underwater work in future days.
A Study on Indoor Air Quality in new Ship

Indoor air pollution has been a critical issue as a new environmental problem and a significant amount of research has been performed on the indoor air pollution in buildings as well us those in mean of transport such as automobiles, subways, and buses. The actual condition of indoor air pollution in ships, however, was not investigated. Because airtightness of a ship is very higher than a general building and the crew spend almost all the time in indoor space of the ship during underway, indoor air quality(IAQ) of the ship is very important for their comfortableness and health. In this paper, indoor air quality of a new ship is measured and analyzed for the improvement of IAQ in ships.
Development of Designed Formulae for Predicting Ultimate Strength of the Perforated Stiffened Plate subjected to Axial Compressive Loading

Ship structures are thin-walled structures and lots of cutouts, for example, of inner bottom structure, girder, upper deck hatch, floor and dia-frame etc. In the case where a plate has cutout it experiences reduced buckling and ultimate strength and at the same time the in-plane stress under compressive load produced by hull girder bending will be redistributed. In the present paper, we investigated several kinds of perforated stiffened model from actual ship structure and series of elasto-plastic large deflection analyses were performed to investigate into the influence of perforation on the buckling and ultimate strength of the perforated stiffened plate varying the cutout ratio, web height, thickness and type of cross-section by commercial FEA program(ANSYS). Closed-form formulas for predicting the ultimate strength of the perforated stiffened plate are empirically derived by curve fitting based on the Finite Element Analysis results. These formulas are used to evaluate the ultimate strength, which showed good correlation with FEM results. These results will be useful for evaluating the ultimate strength of the perforated stiffened plate in the preliminary design.
