A Study on the Performance of Car Active Suspension System by the output Feedback and Sky-hook Control Method
Journal of Manufacturing Technology Engineers, volume 5, issue 4, 1996, Pages 7~16
The dynamic model of the suspension system is developed by using both sky-hook control and output feedback control techniques. based on the performance sensitivity index, Many vehicles use sky-hook control theory operated with only one sensor, due to relatively low cost and easy implementation. On the other hand, output feedback control implemented with state variables has difficulties in measuring such as tire deflection, etc.

Journal of Manufacturing Technology Engineers, volume 5, issue 4, 1996, Pages 18~25
In this study, we have developed the stereolithography system that supports the development of a products. This paper presents the development of the stereolithography system. The system is composed of hardware, software and control part. The software converts a STL file to NC data and displays the monitoring figure in control part. The hardware part deals with structure of machine. The most important theme in this paper is LG-SLCAM software. This software can generate NC data and scanning condition data from a STL file semiautimatically. On the basis of three diensional shapes, it makes data for support structure from STL file. The effectiveness of using out stereolithography system is confirmed by processes of good development.

Journal of Manufacturing Technology Engineers, volume 5, issue 4, 1996, Pages 26~37
This paper presents a new approach to the design of adaptive control system using DSPs(TMS320C30) for robotic manipulators to achieve trajectory tracking by the joint angles Digital signal processors are used in implementing real time adaptive control algorithms to provide an enhanced motion control for robotic manipulators. In the proposed control scheme adaptation laws are derived from the improved Lyapunov second stability analysis method based on the adaptive model reference control theory. The adaptive controller consists of an adaptive feedforward controller. feedback controller. and PID type time-varying auxiliary control elements. The proposed adaptive control scheme is simple in structure, fast in computation, and suitable for implementation of real-time control. Moreover, this scheme does not require a an accurate dynamic modeling, nor values of manipulator parameters and payload. Performance of the adaptive controller is illustrated by simulation and experimental results for a SCARA robot.
Study on Highly Accuracy Quality Evaluation of Spot Weld by use of Image Processing Technique
Journal of Manufacturing Technology Engineers, volume 5, issue 4, 1996, Pages 38~46
This paper discusses the feasibility of Ultrasonic Nondestructive Evaluation (UNDE) technique for sport weld quality. Ultrasonic c-scan image assisted by image processing technique was used for Nondestructive Evaluation(NDE) of spot weld quality. Ultrasonic testing results obtained were confirmed and compared by Optical Microscope and SAM(Scanning Acoustic Mircroscope) observation of the spot-weld cross section, The results show that the nugget dinameter can be successfully measured with the accuracy of 0.5mm. It was ascertained that ultrasonic c-scan technique is very effective method for the sake of the approach to the quantitative measurement of nugget diameter and the discrimination of the corona bond from nugget. Additional support for the above conclusions is provided by the results for galvanized steel. The ultrasonic results for galvanized welds generally correspond to the results for uncoated steel. Finally, it was found that the above-mentioned technique can be sufficiently applied to NDE method for securing the Quality Assurance(QA) of spot welded products in production line.
A Study of Parametric Curve Interpolator in CAD/CAM Ststem
Journal of Manufacturing Technology Engineers, volume 5, issue 4, 1996, Pages 47~52
The interpolator is very important in CNC machines. This study proposed a parametric curve interpolator(PCI) which can be used for machining any sculptured surface represented in a parametric form and generates commands for tool motion between CAD data points according to given accuracy demands. The proposed interpolator is superior to the existing linear interpolator in accuracy, feed rate and acceleration continuity. Moreover in comparison to the recently developed cubic spline interpolator, the PCI has the capability of handling higher order parametric curves and also ensures precise tracking in the velocity domain. Results from real time simulations and experiments on open architecture CNC machines equipped with the proposed interpolator are presented to show its practical capagility. It is believed that the combination of the proposed interpolator and the open architecture machine controller further advances the area of command generation which is an important aspect of CAD/CAM.

Journal of Manufacturing Technology Engineers, volume 5, issue 4, 1996, Pages 53~62
Recently, ceramic / metal bonded joints have led to inccreasing use of structural materials such as automobile, heat engine in various industries. In this paper, a method to analyze an interface crack under both residual stresses and applied loading was proposed. and some results of boundary element method(BEM) analysis Were presented, Fracture thoughness tests of ceramic/metals bonded joints with an interface crack Were carried out, and the stress intensity factors of these joints Ware analyzed by BEM. Also crack propagtion direction was simulated numerically by using BEM. Crack propagation angle was able to easily determine based on the maximum stress concept. The prediction of fracture strength by the fracture thoughness of the ceramics/metals bonded joints was proposed.
A Study on Knowledge Media System using the Concept of Special Document
Journal of Manufacturing Technology Engineers, volume 5, issue 4, 1996, Pages 63~73
The knowledge of the specialized fields has been changed rapidly in the both side of quantity and quality. A hyper media as a knowledge based system is so fixed in the linked media in mutual that we couldn't tell it information provision with the view of users. In this paper, we propose the way of offering intellectual and flexible information which is the same with demand in the side of user, selecting, searching and composing the hypertext at the point of user's view through the design of knowledge media system. Three concepts are used in order to challenge the knowledge media system : special document, agent system and ontology. The special document is a ensure that its activities are coordinated with those of the others within the community, providing a uniform control mechanism. Finally, ontology is a language for exchanging knowledgement, which is a message exchanged among agents to ensure the proper interaction among them. The combination of these three concepts is used to design the prototype of knowledge media system.

An analysis of the thermal behaviour on the spindle system for machine tools
Journal of Manufacturing Technology Engineers, volume 5, issue 4, 1996, Pages 90~97
The thermal deformation of a machine tool spindle influences the performance of the manufacturing systems for precision products. In this research, thermal analysis of a high speed machine tool spindle with the rolling bearing and the built-in motor is carried out by using Finite Difference Method. The thermal boundary conditions describing the heat generation in the bearing and built-in motor are considered in the simulation. And various convective boundary conditions are assumed with the empirical formula in the references. From the simulation results, the characteristics of each element affecting the dynamic thermal behaviour of the machine tool spindle system have been clarified. Therefore, this model can be well applied to the future development of the high speed spindle systems.

Journal of Manufacturing Technology Engineers, volume 5, issue 4, 1996, Pages 108~120
A new technique and theory are proposed which correct orientation of a cylinder to perform a reliable measurement of the surface profile. We analyze characteristics of machined surfaces, e.g., ground, lapped and turned surfaces. Based upon the results. the optimum correction technique is derived by the statistical method. To verify the techinques, measurements are carried out by using the contact stylus profilometer on a controllable table. The measurement shows that surface information of cylinders can be acquired with high accuracy.
A Study on the Main Spindle Deformatin characteristics by the Tool Weight Condition
Journal of Manufacturing Technology Engineers, volume 5, issue 4, 1996, Pages 121~128
In order to examine spindle deformation characteristics that affects the performance of dynmic cutting acuracy due to tool weight variation in a experimental spindle. thermal deformation value of operrative spindle by the axial displacement and the radial run out was measured according to the rise of spindle temperature through the laps of operation time and the change of rotational speed under the tool weight variation. A qualitative summary is as follows ; 1) The results show that the tool weight affcets the spindle temperature variation in a experimental spindle. 2) Radial run out and axial displacement was measured according to the rise of the spindle temperature and the performance of dynamic cutting accuracy was affected by the tool weight variation. 3) Axial displacement is 1.3 times larger than the radial run out in a experimental spindle conditions. 4) Axial displacement is continuously elongated when the tool weight is repeatly exchanged since the spindle themal deformaion, however, when the same tool weight is used. the displacement is still constant.
